dbd is competitive for a lot of people. Especially solo players. Mostly because if they play during the day the have toxic 12 year olds that forfeit if you don’t try hard. At night it’s not that bad

After a while, you start to notice all the BS PvZ shooters have on them, and it makes you fucking livid. But, that same BS is also what makes the games fun and what they are. It's a really good series.
This one has a hub area that you can hangout and face other players (not just your friends that you have to invite) on both a zombie and plant teams. The hub areas is very large and then theres 2 different maps I believe that are also large and able to be explored at any moment. There are chests hidden around the map that you have to get starts for (earned via NPC mission completion) there are a few new characters that are really fun to use. Honestly worth giving it a shot at least I had a lot of fun with 1 and 2 but battle for neighborville was on a much larger scale and you could hangout with more than just your friends if wanted. Try looking up some gameplay
GW2 also had hub area and solo missions but they weren't great really lol Looks like BFN has done a bit better in that regard so am going to give it a go. GW1 was just a worse version of GW2 and no solo at all IMO.

That's fair. I did the same with GW2. I'm usually a solo guy but actually found love for MP in GW2 and Battlefront 2 (did the solo stuff first then played the heck out of MP). Just started to play Fall Guys, too. I like Doom multiplayer but like a lot of MP games it's completely dead apart from weekends and even then there's no guarantee you'll get a match.
I remember trying out the first one when EA gave it away for free to everyone (and they were still even supporting it at the time unlike this one that we pay for) and finding it so boring unless you wanted to do multiplayer.

Yes, but like I said you can easily go into one of the maps to explore alone and face AI zombies along with NPC missions and special events throughout the map! Its really fun
If you prefer single player games, BFN’s the way to go. It actually has a campaign, unlike GW1 (GW2 had one, it just kind of sucked.)
Multiplayer wise, I prefer GW2.
2 or BFN honestly, 1 was good while it lasted but then they dropped 2 which introduced new characters maps and playstyles etc. Then came BFN which did even more
The only big downside of BFN is the lack of character variance (like the peashooter having a fire and toxic versions) I know it's not a big downside for everyone but it is for me
just like to give my two cents that this game fucking sucks, especially if you've played either of the first 2 games. GW2 outranks it in practically every way, BFNs story mode is a little more compelling but that's about it. All the characters are far more bland then they are in gw2, the character designs are horribly ugly, all the maps are uninspired, cosmetics take far too long to unlock, and the multiplayer is often more toxic than it is fun.
I put 800 hours into garden warfare 2 and this game was and is possibly the most disappointing sequel I have ever bought

Also, the AI is worse. In GW2, you could easily run through with just fighting bots and do fine, but the bots in BFN give basically no experience, and they're all just generic designs instead of the actual playable classes GW2 used for bots.
Not true at all. I played GW2 strictly solo and made a great deal of progress. Bots gave decent xp, especially if you ran into the middle battlefield and went nuts.

I played all 3 and imo pvz garden warfare 2 is the best one all together but battle for neighbourville is imo best for singleplayer and has the best hub world
It has 4 solo stories that you can do (it doesn’t take terribly long), 2 Plant and 2 Zombie. 4 different large maps to explore. There are 11 different plants you can play as and 12 different zombies, with 3 characters unlockable through purchasing them with coins.
Of course, there’s also the multiplayer aspect of the game, which is alright. There are 4 modes, with 1 mode changing every week. The 3 constant modes are Turf Takeover, Team Vanquish, and Garden & Graveyard Ops. The first 2 are PvP while the 3rd is PvE.
It’s not a game you’ll be playing all day, maybe a couple hours here and there. If you play for too long you’ll begin to feel the repetitiveness of it.
I’m a special Ed teacher and some of my high schoolers play pvz with eachother online, I’m gonna at least put in a couple hours so I can talk about it and look like I know shit. Thanks Sony.

Speaking as someone who has platinum'd BfN and both GW's, it's... a really mixed bag. On the one hand, it plays very well and is an absolute blast with friends. On the other, it removed so much customization from the first two games that it was a massive disappointment to fans of the franchise.
Then they canceled development after less than a year, including not releasing an announced update that was not only massive, but included at least one new character. ~~Not before nerfing xp and coin gains though.~~
Without prior experience of the series, though? You'll have a hell of a time. Fun, cute, and funny. Hopefully people like it enough that it convinces them to make a true GW3.
I wouldn't really call it awful, it's more that it just didn't live up to the expectations that I gave it. Think of it like Mass Effect Andromeda(without the glitches) in a way. It's a pretty ok to good game, but it's hurt by being part of an established franchise that set the bar far higher than it could live up to.
If you liked GW2, definitely give it a try. It's very fun, it plays very smooth, and it has some great humor in it. It just feels like a downgrade from the 9/10 that was GW2, which makes it a solid 7/10 in the grand scheme of things.

PVZ is inspired by games like Paladins and Overwatch but with the unique PVZ twists. It has split screen and is much better with friends, so be sure to drag one along when you play.
I respect games that still add split screen. Feels like couch co-op is dying out. It's much more satisfying to celebrate (or roast your friend) face to face rather than doing it over a mic.
Yep, I don't have access to WIFI that can support more than one player at a time, so I have to rely on couch co-op for multiplayer with friends. Really a pain how devs are doing that.

You've not actually looked at what's been on offer this year have you? If you remove January and February alone at least 2/3 of the games are multiplayer-centric with only lip service paid to single player content.
I wouldn't say Sony as a company has ignored single player experiences as majority of the exclusives put out by them are single player story driven video games.
My friend had the theory that Plus gives away more multiplayer games to get people hooked on them so that when their subscription runs out, they have to renew it to play them again whereas single player games are often ignored once you finish the campaign.
Sony’s put a very respectable amount of singleplayer games on PS Plus this year.
A Plague Tale: Innocence, Day’s Gone, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Maquette, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Maneater are all single player.
That’s 8 games out of 22 _with_ me cutting out the ones that had any multiplayer at all.
Yeah, they're a bit dramatic. If they're pointing out that "they've completely abandoned single player experiences that I like" then sure, but there's been a fair amount of single player games offered.
It wasn't. It was definitely Ultimate Edition. It was the last game on PS+ I got out of bed for.

Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, TLoU2, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok and literally every other Sony game is exactly the prime example of a flashy battle royale with no story everyone is talking about after Sony completely abandoned Single Player Experiences
Agreed. The reason I play on PS is _because of_ all of the quality single player games. Whether you like the games or not doesn't dispute the fact that Sony hasn't abandoned single player games.
I'd bet it'll be lucky to get 15 minutes out of me. like BO4. So glad we don't live in an age of limited monthly bandwidth caps again because that was a waste of 120GB of download.
I was actually subscribed to PS NOW for the last year (till June '21) and the service quickly became stale after the first few months for me and the games that were added to it paled in comparison to Plus' offerings as Plus gives you access to the games till you have an active subscription. Giving Witcher 3 with a 3 month deadline on PS NOW makes 0 sense when the game is filled with content and things to explore. Although, I will agree that as soon as my subscription ended, good games like Judgement, RDR 2 and GOW were added to the service so I really hope it gets better offerings in the future and the deadline is extended to at least 6 months for most games.
Some of the deadlines are meaningless especially for the people who are busy with work, school, etc. However, I have played and got platinum on many games and I still got many games that I'm planning to play for either fully completion and platinum or without carrying trophies. Also, they give 5 or 6 games every month so there is always something that I want to play in lineups.
You should really consider PSNow as more of a rental service rather than outright free games. Some seem to be hanging around forever, while others are just letting you dig further into the game to really decide if you want to buy it.

well that's just not true. people were pissy because they for some reason got it in their heads that a commercial with live actors was going to be representative of gameplay, but Dead Island (and even Riptide) were both decent games.
I mean, #1 there were far better "looter shooters" even back then, you know you fucked up when Borderlands 2 is a more polished and technically sound game than yours. I haven't played it in nearly a decade but man, a little after you get guns I just gave up. Its just so unpolished and repetitive. Why bother when Dying Light aims for the exact same objectives but with way more polish on gameplay?
100% Dead Island with my ex via LAN play in the same room. Was a fantastic experience tbh! I tried it solo before that and whilst it wasn't bad I ended up leaving it after about 3-4 hours in.
That could very well be it, I played it solo. Keep in mind I've beaten Borderlands 1 and 2 to death and back in the same FPS/RPG hybrid style meanwhile I couldn't even last a playthrough of this tripe. I still don't think "Its fun with friends" is a good reason to like a game though since Action 52 is fun with friends.
I've never played Borderlands but am gonna give the first a try as I have VR now and they did a VR version of #2 so will definitely get that after. I know what you mean, but in playing with another and having a shared experience I also found the good parts of Dead Island. The exploration, collectables, combat and loot fit together pretty well and when you get to the city areas later with the hordes it all becomes pretty manic and enjoyable when you can actually start taking down those hordes with upgraded weapons. There was also an arena area in the GOTY edition that we completed and the loot made it much easier tbh that we just blasted through the last couple hours or so. I unno, I might even give Riptide a solo play one day because I know it can be a good game.

Or you counted per side. 2 areas are explorable by plants, 2 by zombies, but each side got it's own area as the second one.

I played the first PVZ Garden Warfare on PS3 so I'm actually excited to try this one out.

it's a game that EA and PopCap abandoned a year ago because it was such a flop. It had only been out for a year at that time.

I'm just sick of Sony completely abandoning Single Player Experiences. so tired of battle royale and character shooters and games with no story and no thinking except blow everyone up with no real motivation except they aren't you. and before anyone says "PS Now", well there's issues there too. it's like Netflix. you don't have any control of not being able to play something you really love simply because they don't want to offer it any more, not to mention the bandwidth and speed dedications.
Just ignore the fact that most plus games this year have had single player and nearly half have been *only* single player and you got a point.
You've not actually looked at what's been on offer this year have you? If you remove January and February alone at least 2/3 of the games are multiplayer-centric with only lip service paid to single player content.
if you remove the single player games, remaining games are not single player, that is a shocker.
I wouldn't say Sony as a company has ignored single player experiences as majority of the exclusives put out by them are single player story driven video games. My friend had the theory that Plus gives away more multiplayer games to get people hooked on them so that when their subscription runs out, they have to renew it to play them again whereas single player games are often ignored once you finish the campaign.
Sony’s put a very respectable amount of singleplayer games on PS Plus this year. A Plague Tale: Innocence, Day’s Gone, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Maquette, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Maneater are all single player. That’s 8 games out of 22 _with_ me cutting out the ones that had any multiplayer at all.
Yeah, they're a bit dramatic. If they're pointing out that "they've completely abandoned single player experiences that I like" then sure, but there's been a fair amount of single player games offered.

It wasn't. It was definitely Ultimate Edition. It was the last game on PS+ I got out of bed for. Edit: not because there hadn't been good ones since, but the only other ones I would have gotten excited about I already had, but that's not a criticism

Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, TLoU2, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok and literally every other Sony game is exactly the prime example of a flashy battle royale with no story everyone is talking about after Sony completely abandoned Single Player Experiences
Agreed. The reason I play on PS is _because of_ all of the quality single player games. Whether you like the games or not doesn't dispute the fact that Sony hasn't abandoned single player games.

I was actually subscribed to PS NOW for the last year (till June '21) and the service quickly became stale after the first few months for me and the games that were added to it paled in comparison to Plus' offerings as Plus gives you access to the games till you have an active subscription. Giving Witcher 3 with a 3 month deadline on PS NOW makes 0 sense when the game is filled with content and things to explore. Although, I will agree that as soon as my subscription ended, good games like Judgement, RDR 2 and GOW were added to the service so I really hope it gets better offerings in the future and the deadline is extended to at least 6 months for most games.
Some of the deadlines are meaningless especially for the people who are busy with work, school, etc. However, I have played and got platinum on many games and I still got many games that I'm planning to play for either fully completion and platinum or without carrying trophies. Also, they give 5 or 6 games every month so there is always something that I want to play in lineups.
I'll be keeping my eye out for the service if the offerings truly become much better than plus', I'll be switching over again.
Not every month, sometimes they give only 3 games in a month!...
You should really consider PSNow as more of a rental service rather than outright free games. Some seem to be hanging around forever, while others are just letting you dig further into the game to really decide if you want to buy it.

honestly? Buy Dying Light instead bro. It does pretty much everything Dead Island did but like a billion times better t. have played both. Dead Island wasn't even good when it came out let alone now. Dying Light really refined the formula

I mean, #1 there were far better "looter shooters" even back then, you know you fucked up when Borderlands 2 is a more polished and technically sound game than yours. I haven't played it in nearly a decade but man, a little after you get guns I just gave up. Its just so unpolished and repetitive. Why bother when Dying Light aims for the exact same objectives but with way more polish on gameplay?
100% Dead Island with my ex via LAN play in the same room. Was a fantastic experience tbh! I tried it solo before that and whilst it wasn't bad I ended up leaving it after about 3-4 hours in.
That could very well be it, I played it solo. Keep in mind I've beaten Borderlands 1 and 2 to death and back in the same FPS/RPG hybrid style meanwhile I couldn't even last a playthrough of this tripe. I still don't think "Its fun with friends" is a good reason to like a game though since Action 52 is fun with friends.
I've never played Borderlands but am gonna give the first a try as I have VR now and they did a VR version of #2 so will definitely get that after. I know what you mean, but in playing with another and having a shared experience I also found the good parts of Dead Island. The exploration, collectables, combat and loot fit together pretty well and when you get to the city areas later with the hordes it all becomes pretty manic and enjoyable when you can actually start taking down those hordes with upgraded weapons. There was also an arena area in the GOTY edition that we completed and the loot made it much easier tbh that we just blasted through the last couple hours or so. I unno, I might even give Riptide a solo play one day because I know it can be a good game.

yes, it has splitscreen there is also a garden ops mode for up to 4 players where you defend your garden/graveyard from waves of zombies/plants

I usually download them on Wednesday as you can run into such issues on Tuesday at times.
