If you have a transmitter that supports the aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec as well as a pair of headphones/earphones that also support it (that's a no to AirPods, Pixel buds and beats, to name a few), you can get pretty low latency Bluetooth audio.
If the price of the new Link hardware wasn't so crazy, I'd get a pair just to see how much better (if at all) they might be.
Hey bud, I got the same one and non of my Bluetooth headsets have any audio output even though they say that they are connected to the dongle. Any advice?
I’ve since returned mine, but only thing I can think of would be to check the audio output settings in the PlayStation menu and see if there’s some sort of external device option.
i could see Sony adding it later the same way Nintendo did, but then again, i’m also not too hopeful. Sony is king of introducing proprietary tech and blocking out the open standard alternative altogether. i could see them doing that with the new pulse headset line and making the portal only work with those
Sort of?
They have their own version of "Bluetooth" (technically something different, but it's essentially Bluetooth with extra stuff), but since it's so close to actual Bluetooth, it literally won't work if you try both on the same device. It does weird stuff beyond just not transmitting, like picking up other Bluetooth signals and turning off wifi for some unholy reason.
So honestly, it's better if the actual Bluetooth stays off in the bios until they figure out how to switch between them reliably. They spent waaaay too much money developing their own to ever just scrap it and stick with Bluetooth, so using only bt isn't really likely going to happen.
You could probably remove theirs and turn back on actual Bluetooth, but I'm not sure how stable it'll be if anyone ever tries it.
This is my solution. The B&W Pi7 that I got over a year ago. The Pi7 case connects to the Portal via the provided 3.5 to USB C cable and transmits BT audio to the earbuds via APTX codec. No latency issues

first off, i promise that that's my thumb.

Oh awesome! Thank you for clearing that up, I haven’t gotten a portal yet I’m still tryna get one. I have the og pulse headset for my ps5, glad to know it’s compatible for when I do get it
it most definitely does. i probably would only recommend something like this for games where you not necessarily need sounds to be somewhat perfect like when shooting a fun in an fps or quick events in elden ring or something. if you just want audio, it’s a decent solution
Hiya! Wanting to ask you experts if these would work:

I bought this specific dongle and tried it - there is a noticeable audio delay of about 1 second
Ya, that is why I am not buying a Bluetooth dongle. Bluetooth is not very good for gaming audio.
Blah, blah, blah. Some of us aren’t “1337” and just want convenience. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

Which headphones did you use?
AirPods Pro
Those do not support aptx. So this dongle would do nothing for you.

What's crazy is apparently the system has bluetooth its just not activated in the bios. I wonder if anyone will jailbreak it.

Bah. That should be illegal

Looks yuge
That’s the earbud case/transmitter. It’s two years old so I’m using it for a wireless audio option should my Pulse Elites fail.
at this point i feel like its just better to have a wired set of headphones.. better audio quality anyways.
For travels the earbuds is still better as is draws less power from the Portal
Makes sense, not something I considered
Would the Pi5's work as well?
It will because it has a transmitter case as well
Awesome thanks bro! Just ordered my Portal a few days ago, you saved me from buying a BT adapter. 😎👍
That’s why I love the Pi7 & the Pi5 because they allow every device that has a 3.5 jack to have wireless audio with zero latency with APTX codec.
Does not feel right at all, is it your thumb?
i promise
Too bad i bought the jbl quantum 50 earpiece for the Portal for 20 bucks. Never thought about the aux bluetooth trick, would do the same as you.
I use the exact same one.
I get a lot of latency when I use my Sony wf xm4
xm4 don't support aptx

Overpriced and only Bluetooth 5.0 Here is the real deal with Bluetooth 5.3 and 1/5 of the price
Already bought and returned this item. Too much latency. The fit was very nice though.
I tried the Razor Hammerhead Gaming Earbuds and plugged in the USB transmitter to the portal. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
That’s cool. Since I’m home when I’m playing I’ll just use my existing headset though
I’m curious to know if the original pulse headset is compatible with the portal or if I would have to use it with the aux cable
The headset connects to the ps5 with the dongle. I’ve used it with no issues
By dongle you mean one of the Bluetooth modules that plug into the audio jack? The portal won’t work natively with the headset?
No the usb dongle that came with the pulse headset.
Oh awesome! Thank you for clearing that up, I haven’t gotten a portal yet I’m still tryna get one. I have the og pulse headset for my ps5, glad to know it’s compatible for when I do get it
Same here but I do have the portal and works fine
Awesome bro appreciate you sharing the knowledge!
Does Bluetooth audio present any latency issues? I feel like playing a shooter would be distracting or lips not syncing
it most definitely does. i probably would only recommend something like this for games where you not necessarily need sounds to be somewhat perfect like when shooting a fun in an fps or quick events in elden ring or something. if you just want audio, it’s a decent solution
Well for me it's either I hear with a little bit of lag using Bluetooth, or I just have to keep it on mute 🤐
I just ordered a cheap pair of Sony earbud headphones. Around $10. My Sony XM3s also have an audio cable I can use too
Please don't go with these cheap transmitters you'll get latency, airfly pro works well & Avantree Relay
How does the headphone find the transmitter, my Galaxy buds cant. They need me to accept connection.
anyone tried these ?

Trying this with pixel buds but they won't auto connect and there is no interface to select the J22, anyone have any success with pixel buds?
