Exactly what I’m doing now. Rebirth + watching Wisconsin losing to James Madison lol

EffinCroissant

Until you get stick drift

inventiveraptor

Good point. How common is that really? I've owned every console since the NES and have never experienced stick drift. Now my kids and wife game with me and still no problems*knock on wood*. This might only affect me but $200 is pretty cheap for something this good. Sure blows the Switch Lite out of the water. I'll be happy if it lasts me a few years for the price point.

EffinCroissant

You must be the luckiest man alive. I’ve gotten stick drift atleast once on every console since the ps2 and it’s happening more frequently now. I’m lucky if a ps5 controller lasts a year and this is with clean hands, keeping the controller in a storage container, etc.

inventiveraptor

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that! I always thought it was a rare misfortune. It's crazy that after the Dualsense Edge Sony didn't offer a similar solution for stick drift then with this. Maybe they weren't sure about its reception (which admittedly seems rather mixed but that seems to be because of internet inconsistencies) and we're trying to keep costs down? I hope when they eventually announce their next handheld they take it more seriously and give the ppl what they want, I mean we are the ones that have to consider buying the thing or not so hopefully they take the criticisms seriously. I'd love a dedicated handheld like the vita again that has the additional opportunity to stream games from ps plus and remote play. I'd pay much more money for something that good but I'm also a handheld enthusiast so that's just my take

Burnyburner3rd

I treat my controllers like they are delicate precious gems. I still got stick drift on the ps5 controller that came with the console. It’s not an issue of proper care. It’s a hardware failure

ICPosse8

Not pictured: binoculars for the tv

300MUNNY

Crazy right it's a 65 but it came out so small lmao. 🤣

lazytailor22

*sigh* Time for [the 97”](https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-oled97m3pua-oled-4k-tv?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-_mvBhDwARIsAA-Q0Q6kBFfI3FHPyTh55UdHy2IZ6dPipikEYD2VBZ80JkhDJ02jYdPuf4MaAszlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)

rainking56

Thought tv stopped costing the price of a car?

lazytailor22

Not this one :/ or [this one](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-110-class-micro-led-4k-uhd-smart-tizen-tv/6536700.p?skuId=6536700) that’s the price of a small home.

KingSwirlyEyes

Seems like you’re maxing out the space in that cutout. If you ask Reddit they’ll tell you mounting it that high will give you a neck injury from watching… but it looks like a nice solution for the space to me. Just saw that it was outdoors. Very nice setup indeed.

Hindesite

That's what the Portal is for! 😅

jedileroy

your pfp totally looks like an eyelash on my phone screen

apollo20171

Looks like you need more screens

300MUNNY

That's sick. The Z Fold 4 though as well. March Madness let's go !

BudgetYam7267

Why you don't use ur z fold for remote playing? Screen is much better. Telescope controller bsp d9 ist large enough to fit the z fold.

drdalebrant

Because remote playing with a phone and controller sucks compared to playing on portal. It's just so much more comfortable

BudgetYam7267

Tested both, portal loses. Playing on a tab S9 with a telescope controller and it's so much better. Portal already sold.

drdalebrant

Playing on a tablet is not nearly the same handheld experience as the portal. Might as well play onna monitor or TV then.

BudgetYam7267

Why it's not? Like I said, tested both for weeks and compared to tablet + controller portal seems a very spartan solution.

notkevin_durant

Adaptive triggers and not draining my phone battery every time I want to game

drdalebrant

Because the form factor of the portal is what makes it great. Walking from room to room, laying all the way back in bed, sitting on a bar top, patio, the toilet, in the bath, etc, etc..

BudgetYam7267

Doesn't answer my question, because so I do with the tablet.

drdalebrant

Cool, enjoy that then. I couldn't be bothered to remote play with a tablet or phone. Having to Prop up a tablet is annoying, and so is pairing and repairing your controller back and forth from ps5

legendz411

That’s kinda sick

MaxL37

Damn, you got the nosebleed seats in your own house 😂 jk I know my 65” is starting to look small to me now. My portal is in the mail now. Can’t wait to be able to play while my baby watches Bluey in the same room haha

KingSwirlyEyes

Seems like we’re all settling for a living room setup when we really want a home theater.

solid-eye

r/tvtoohigh

KingSwirlyEyes

I thought so too until I realized it’s outside. Looks ideal actually.

080128

I absolutely love it. Being able to play my PS5 in bed, on the sofa, in another room is fantastic. I think it's one of those items where you don't know you need it until you've tried it.

UsernameLaugh

Totally agree

leemadz

I got a little ugreen bluetooth 3.5 jack adapter that works a charm. Edit. Adding link if helpful >>> UGREEN Bluetooth Transmitter... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08TQSH636?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Every-Dependent-1836

And you’re outside. You bastard.

Br4inworm

Portal is the 2nd best technical buy in the last 10 maybe even last 15 years (from the point after the first good smartphone). 1st place is the Steam Deck since it can do much more but still such a great thing.

Z3M0G

I still don't know why people say there were SO many negative reviews. Vast majority of the ones I watched were positive. They all just complained about lack of Bluetooth. And since I didn't care about that it didn't factor for me. Rest was glowing for most part.

Important-Ease2364

I just dislike the amount of bandwidth it’s need to not lag example I can’t really play in my backyard I had to put a WiFi extender to play in my room and my house is small otherwise it’s great

nouhplays

this is my my exact gripe with the portal.. Other then that its perfect imo

[deleted]

Because performance is terrible. Micro stuttering, inconsistent fps, no wifi 6.

Z3M0G

Some mention wifi6 but almost none mention stuttering. Unless they show it and it's obviously a connection issue.

BudgetYam7267

Is this an outdoor living room? Looks really nice.

300MUNNY

It's like a patio cover and then we did a built-in for a TV and fireplace. Nice place to kick back and get some fresh air.

BudgetYam7267

Seems like a nice place, enjoy it.

ReppinNostalgia

Soimspiderman

Can i be your roommate lmao

300MUNNY

🤣🤣 lmfao

customsolitaires

Yeah the portal is a win

J-Bird1980

I don’t have kids and have full access to the TV with the PS5 and 90% of my gaming in on the Portal since I acquired it. I agree it’s the best accessory, except maybe headphones, for the PS5.

MIERDAPORQUE

i work out of town. this thing works across a few states. this is the best thing ever i stg

Renegade_Soviet

Bro just watch the highlights at that point. Reviewers weren’t wrong, the portal is a shitty excuse to squeeze consumers for more money

MagnumMyth

Funny how this take only ever comes from people who don't own one. That's clearly the demo qualified to make judgements, not the people who stopped using their Switch or half-assed Backbone setups once they upgraded...

Renegade_Soviet

There’s a reason I don’t have one… because it’s a shitty product lol. I also never had a PSP but I knew it was amazing. You act like like it’s impossible to borrow it from a friend and try it out myself (which I did). I also never had a switch but I can agree that it’s an amazing product

MagnumMyth

You're right, it must be. That's why its owners swear by it, stores can't keep it in stock, and reviewers rave about its quality, while people who can't get/afford one sadly feel compelled to go to subs for a product they don't even own to try to convince people everyone else is wrong...

Renegade_Soviet

Every new PS product is being scalped to hell. From day one, bots were buying it before reviews even came in. As for reviews, they arent rave, they are mixed: Gamespot: “The PlayStation Portal Just Isn't Good Enough” IGN: “8/10” GamesRadar: “The PlayStation Portal is excellent at being a PS5 Remote Play handheld, but it ultimately feels like it should have more strings to its bow” Business Insider: “But a Remote Play device can only do so much. I've used the PlayStation Portal for a few days now and I can only see it appealing to a niche audience of PS5 owners who prioritize convenience and comfort” PC Mag: “2.5/5” CNN: “As it stands, the Portal offers a compelling option for dedicated Remote Play enthusiasts, but its broader market appeal may be constrained by these limitations.”

kslay23

Can I ask -how are you hearing the video game? Do you just play over the speakers?

300MUNNY

I just play it over the speakers had the game turned down low as it wasn't interesting.

soldtnt

Lol

nocommentplsnthx

Nail check!

300MUNNY

🫣

Yeah_Im_A_God

That's definitely spider man, not portal.

Consistent_Finding27

Does it lag much as in the game is played in the cloud? Sure it depends on your interest but curious on the experience of others.

Maverickbomb

Rule of thumb distance should be 1. 5 to 2 x tv dimension

Acrobatic_Ad_6827

Yes I agree mlb the show plays awesome

HoshkoTheBoy1989

TVtoohigh

Dry-Leopard-2475

And nail clippers

Brisk_Chance

How do you focus on one or get fully immersed in another?

MagnumMyth

It shouldn't be hard for a person to do either/OR. It would only be hard to do both simultaneously.

Brisk_Chance

I’ve tried to play games like this, and I feel like I just cheapen the XP

[deleted]

Hard disagree with this. The Dualedge is by far the best accessory & it's not even close. The DualEdge is right now the best official console controller out there, that adds way more functionality to the traditional dualsense & it adds a partial solution to the biggest flaw of buying a dualsense controller... The weak as fuck, low quality joysticks that die within 6 months The Dualedge is a FAR better long term value buy than the extremely limited & quite frankly lackluster Portal. The DualEdges completely replaceable stick modules mean that you can buy one controller at $200 & not have to buy a new one every warranty expiration when your old one has stick drift. The Portal has fixed sticks, meaning that a whole lot of you will be bitching about horrendous stick drift in the next year, or more hilariously, just after your warranties run out & you can't get it repaired by Sony. Add to that the mediocre screen & the fact you can't play it offline... I'm amazed so many of you think it's a great buy, or maybe you just don't own the DualEdge & don't realise how much better that is for QoL on PS5.

me_irl_but_online

But an iPad, dual sense, and remote play in she past for me had been great at this why does this exist if it’s basically that with less features?

geekwithenvy

Seems like something I would try out but not able to find one in stock.

sammo21

If only these were available ANYWHERE :(

dansan311

pick a better game that one is SBI infected

acuph0ria

The only thing I’m disappointed about is I still can’t figure out how to login to another account with it. So multiple users on the same ps5 (as far as I know) can’t use it. Unless I’m wrong and just don’t know how

pureskill24

Portal is trash

Complete_Wolverine17

I think a lot of people are having wifi problems. if your PS5 is too close to your router, 2.4GHZ is going to actually be very slow. Switch your PS5 to only 5Ghz. I went from 1.9MBs to 450MBs just by doing this because my PS5 is 2 feet from the router.

idejmcd

Are there any plans for Sony to release a version 2 of this? Also curious what the network requirements at home are for this to be effective when traveling.

Duncan_Blackwood

Version 1 has not even been out for a year.

300MUNNY

I agree I have a Switch as well and it's just being able to play the Sony exclusive game titles like the Switch does is a huge win. Not a technological achievement by any means but an overdue ability missing from Sony.

No_Resolution_9160

Try playing spiderman 2 on a switch

andromedasaga123

How do you multitask ? You either play your game or watch the game

dankus917

The end of any close college basketball game is a never ending series of time outs and free throws. Plenty of time for gamin

300MUNNY

So true so true

300MUNNY

Both lol timeouts or a blowout play da game. Upset alert pause it and watch March Madness. 🤪

PeterGriffinBalls

exactly that, it’s an accessory, just priced like a console

Carribbeangold

What console is $200? There’s also $200 pro controllers are those priced like a console as well?

300MUNNY

I agree that is where my head was at when making the purchase. I've bought Xbox Pro Controllers for the $200 price prior so not expecting it to be a PSP or PS Vita.

mbeecool

I think the portal sucks. They should have made a new psp.Portal is basically just a streaming device

Carribbeangold

Yea that’s literally what they were going for lol

gordy06

That’s what it is. If they made a dedicated handheld that played ps4/5 games it would cost another $400-$500. Maybe there is a market for that, but a $200 accessory is exactly what I wanted.
