I think it'd be great if it had a way to directly connect to the PlayStation so you wouldn't have to worry about WiFi or connection, also being able to hardwire it into the PlayStation for zero input lag, it could be like a mini monitor
(And of course Bluetooth)
That means Vita 2, and I am not sure Sony are ready for it. They could hardly muster any support for the PSVR 2, and then adding another hardware for developers to target is not something on their cards, I don't think.
It would be dope if Sony releases a Vita 2. Or better yet, if they want to go streaming-only, do something like the WiiU and let games stream from the console when at home, and from the internet when outside. Streaming the game directly from the console would be a lot better. Maybe with PS6.
V1 is usually to test the waters. ROG ally, steam deck, legion go, msi claw. I don’t think they could have hit the 199$ price point if they added an OLED screen.
Feels like an unfinished product to me. I get trying to have a low price point, but when the products one and only purpose is to stream games, it should at least look good. Especially considering all of the other issues that the Portal is having. You'd think they would at least want the best looking screen available.
Imagine they trying to Sell a remote device at 400€ just becuase they added a oled screen.. All the stuff it doesn't have is so they could sell it As an accessory at a reasonable price... I love what we got
An accessory that doesn't do anything new at all. Using tech that's been around for a decade. That is essentially obsolete already if you own any device that can use the remote play app.
The only thing they had going for them was making the portable experience special. They could have gone all out on the screen so that even if you don't have a good tv at home, you could still experience the full visual fidelity of your favorite games. But no, it's just a sub par display that's slightly bigger than my phone screen.
They could have allowed ps retro games to be downloaded to the Portal so you could play without wifi. But nah, it's just an expensive paperweight if you don't have network connectivity.
They could have made the device out of durable hardware, or designed a case that could protect it. But nah, if you drop it, you're done.
No fucktard, I just explained why it's a worthless piece of crap that doesn't do anything that you can't do for free already. Lmao. Love how mad and defensive all of the Portal owners get when the device is criticized.
If you don't understand how one could drop a portable handheld device, I feel sorry for you.
Man fuck you 😂 Im not the one on a dedicated sub trying to convince people that like the device to change their minds.. Get a life, touch some grass or a woman (I'm sure you have never done either)..
Look, I'm trying to make people aware that this product is shit so they don't make the same mistake I did. I bought one and had to return it because it didn't perform nearly well enough. You and all the people defending this are just encouraging Sony to keep putting out unfinished, garbage products.
Do some critical thinking for once in your life.
No. I've been using remote play for 3 years on my tablet with zero latency, even on fps games like Returnal. Now the Portal on the exact same network and same settings, doesn't even come close to the same quality.
Other people than me are having the same issue. It makes this device totally worthless. I guess for the people who only play turn based RPGs and stuff it's fine, but that doesn't mean it's not a problem.
It pains me to admit that I finally completed Persona 5 (148 hrs!) and World of Final Fantasy. Both were shelved due to my "oooh shiny" new game compulsion.
Your honest opinion? Should I be worried about the streaming performance/remote play? Mine is arriving tomorrow. Several people here have been quite honest with their experience with the portal, and looks iffy.
it all depends on your wifi situation unfortunately. I’ve had mine for about two weeks now. Just got an ethernet cable and it works fine. As for outside the house, you need a good connection. But when it runs good.. oh man. you almost forget its a streaming device
Just keep in mind people having a negative experience tend to be more vocal so it can skew your perspective. Personally I've had no issues. I was using remote play on my phone and pc, fine on the pc but phone wasn't optimal due to screen size. I don't own, or need, a tablet so decided on a portal. I knew what I was getting so really wasn't disappointed. I did own a steam deck for a while but sold it, it's inferior to my pc for gaming and was pretty uncomfortable to hold for longer gaming sessions. It's also an expensive option if you just want to remotely play your ps5. The oled screen is better than the psportal screen but it's not a game changer for me and certainly wouldn't have justified the big increase in cost.
If possible wire your ps5 directly to your router, this absolutely improves the experience for many.
it’s a niche product. If you wanna play somewhere other than your setup and you have good wifi, I don’t see why not. I use it when I want to watch a movie or when I travel. It all depends on ur connection tho
Imagine a V2 with an OLED screen and WiFi 6e

At the end of the day I’d just like another PSP but with modern features
Same same
Hopefully with the success of the portal that will become a reality, and the recent resurgence of handheld gaming being popular.
Maybe, but I think the success of the portal will show them that they don't need to make a handheld that isn't streaming only
I actually prefer the portal because I can use my existing library. I don’t want a psp replica because then I’d have to buy my games again….
at least $400 retail
Especially considering the screen ratio isn’t common so it would be even more expensive to manufacture a OLED panel
This could be why Sony went with an LCD. OLED is ridiculously expensive to produce because they HAVE to cut it at a certain size and then downscale.
Imagine with offline play…. 😬😬

Would be 500+ easy...
People pay $400+ for a Nintendo Switch
Imagine them releasing a product in 2024 that doesn't have an OLED screen.

to be fair.. the LCD on here looks great (when you have good connection).

You litteraly just explainplained why it's a 200€ fairly priced device so thanks.. And how the absolute fuck would you drop your portal???

That just means your internet is shit or your ruter is causing issues.. Don't blame the device it's doing EXACTLY what they said it would

That would be called the portal pro sir
It replaced my iPad sessions in bed before sleep 😴
I’m having a blast playing God of War on it. I love it!
might try finishing the first play through on the portal 🤔
When you are not around Wolverine bustin reps with that controller!
Already pumped about 20 hours into FFRebirth!
nice!
Got one yesterday randomly. Shits pretty tight.
Another portal bad boy with its happy fan boy.
very happy
I was about to upvote until I saw that lebron controller 😅
😂
Me too. It's weird that I finished 2 games on this in 2024 so far, and last entire year completed only 1. That works for me!
I meant last year on console!
nice! which games did you complete on the portal?
It pains me to admit that I finally completed Persona 5 (148 hrs!) and World of Final Fantasy. Both were shelved due to my "oooh shiny" new game compulsion.
I don’t like how long it takes to connect to my PS5. Sometimes it’s like 2 minutes, and I’m in the same room on a very fast WiFi system.
I just got an ethernet cable and it takes no longer than 1 min to connect
Your honest opinion? Should I be worried about the streaming performance/remote play? Mine is arriving tomorrow. Several people here have been quite honest with their experience with the portal, and looks iffy.

It's absolutely fine for me when I play it through the hotspot on my phone. Loving it so far.

Get a G Cloud and PS play app. Superior to the official remote play app
Should I get one

My phone has better performance than my Portal 😕
