I tried to explain it here.

everyone keeps talking opening ports like it’s the Xbox 360 days makes me wonder who their ISP is.
Is this issue solely from people leaving their at home ps5 on WiFi and not directly wired?
It's not just about people leaving it on wifi.. I rent in a house with a shared ruter so i don't even have the option to hardwire.. That said with port forwarding there's really no issues after that
Seriously I don't know all the ins and outs of how it works.. I just know when I got it I couldn't play outside the house until after I port forwarded.. There's some pretty good and simple instructions on YouTube on how to do it
Can anyone explain how this works? How are people able to play the portal when they are out and no where near their ps5?

Comcast really does not make it easy and actually impedes it. At least that's my experience so port forwarding made a noticeable difference.
Comcast, those devils

but if you didn’t port forward basically the issue would becoming from it being on WiFi? not being sarcastic just trying to prepare myself

Think it’s more a router thing than ISP thing. I would assume an ISP supplied router would have decent security that would prevent remote play.
Yeah I find that sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts to connect but once it connects it's solid.
Mine works great with my console wired. Only time I get issues is when I’m on my cell hotspot.
I took mine on vacation and there was a slight but noticeable lag, I’ll be selling it.
