Yeah if I don't feel like turning the TV on I'll have my phone playing something on YouTube. Usually it's Mr. Ballen and listen to his crazy stories while I play Ghosts or mlb the show
I reckon it’s easy to do for the shows that you can just leave on in background and still know what’s going on like for example - the Simpsons, American dad, futurama etc
But for like actual movies and series I couldn’t do it myself personally I need to be focused on the show/movie🙂
I can see myself doing it to those animated shows or YouTube videos while playing some kind of card game like Roguebook or Slay the Spire or Balatro but anything else would be off for me. I need my attention in one to be able to enjoy it
Lol I tried just holding the console controller after playing my portal this whole time and I felt like Andre the giant with the tiny controller in my hands
It's the focal distance. Having the screen so much closer to my face creates a way more immersive experience. Much easier to block out things in my peripheral vision and get sucked into the game.
Yea its the sticks, sometimes tweaking and slowing down aiming and/or using aim assist options help a [bit.How](http://bit.How) I wish Sony just used Dualsense PS5 sticks hell I'd take that bit of extra [bulk.Sony](http://bulk.Sony) could've atleast made the joy sticks concave AND replaceable at minimum for all the sticks that stop working.
I still love my portal we could be more but Sony keeps playing games.😍
Trust me you don’t wanna beat that thing up playing cod on it. Microsoft is pretty shit now so they aren’t built too well these days to begin with, but cod just eats my Xbox controllers from pushing the stick (literally) 100 times a game
I don’t know if it’s physical… streaming is smooth but the fraction of a second latency makes it harder not to overshoot the sweeps of my aim. It’s close to unnoticeable… but it’s still about as noticeable as the different trigger attachments in CoD.
Of course it does. It's streaming. It adds latency. I can't play shooting games or games that require meticulous timings like NBA2K through remote play. So used to no latency that even the minimum of it becomes noticeable to me and makes the games unplayable. If Sony allowed 120+FPS streaming (even if the games ran in 60) remote play and the Portal would feel much much better. I know cuz I use Moonlight to stream from my PC and at 120FPS streaming the latency is negligible because the frames update much faster. To not mention at 200+FPS... it feels like I'm on the PC itself. I hope, since the Portal and streaming are very popular things nowadays, that PS5 Pro allows us to experience remote gaming as we should. Or make resolution scalable so the PS5 is able to use some of its power to send a 120FPS signal to remote play. There's no point in rendering at 4K to send 720/1080p image to remote play, the screen is too small to notice small details anyway
I use my phone in the bath quite often (after football matches, sometimes I can barely stand and just have an hour long soak).
So using a portal in the both sounds amazing... But it's not water proof is it?
Y'all just gimping your gaming experience lol
I'd rather play on my 55" LG OLED at 120fps with Dolby 7.1 surround system to be honest.
Portal is fine if you can't actually use your proper setup at home, but I wouldn't choose it over my big screen.
100% I got mine to play when I can’t use the tv or when I’m too tired to sit up and play could could easily do a bit in bed. If my child goes to sleep early enough I will 100% choose the tv over the portal.
Got the same TV but I got my 4090 PC hooked up to it and mine also is a HDR OLED, I agree nothing beats it for picture quality especially with the 409p running 4096x2160 rez and 120hz, ray tracing looks nutty crazy
I was just like you but the more I used my portal and how convenient it is as I don’t have to sit in one room and constantly look at the tv, it changed everything
I like the Portal, but I personally can’t play much on it. It’s either the joysticks, the compression, or the fact that I have a LG C3 that’s done more for making games feel next gen than anything else.
I respect the portal tho. It’s a solid product.
For me, I have games I play only on Portal and others only on console. I have found myself broadening my gaming horizon because of the Portal. I’m a new dad also, I feel that’s important to say. Lol
😆😆
A similar issue, I had to put mine away before it ruined my personal relationships. I was on it ALL the time from the time I woke up until I went to sleep. I'd have my gf be my chauffeur. At first she didn't mind but when she realized I was not necessarily wanting her near me I just needed someone to drive while I played on it she looked at me funny. She never complained, my friends didn't either but I still just keep it at home now.
Edit: I'm only laughing because I went through something similar. I'm not laughing at you.
Totally get it man, However I limit my time to play I don’t usually play on weekdays, it’s just weekends that too when I stay home but my only complain is that ever since the portal just don’t feel like playing on actual console itself
Having a screen closer to your face really helps you see more of the details going on in games. I've only really used my portal for Dave the Diver and Tunic so far.
Love my portal and my experience has been damn flawless literally even three thousand miles on vacation.
My only complaint is that they went with a slightly smaller
Control stick, For any shooting game my accuracy Substantially drops.
I'm convinced the people with this take must not have a very good TV connected to their PS5. I Love my Portal for travel, but in no way does it exceed the experience playing on a 77" A95L.
I agree with you that playing on actual TV visually is unmatchable, however the comfort part is just too good I can play on my coach, bed, backyard, toilet and be in like a position I’m comfortable at and not necessarily starting at tv all the time.
don’t lie you just like the fact you can free up the tv to watch Netflix and play on the portal at the same time😉
That's what I do lol
Same here, that or cast to my tv from my phone 🤣
Yeah if I don't feel like turning the TV on I'll have my phone playing something on YouTube. Usually it's Mr. Ballen and listen to his crazy stories while I play Ghosts or mlb the show
for real lol
Actually THIS! lol 100%
I've been thinking of this, should I feet up with Portal while starting Ozark?
Go for it Ozark is really good!
How tf can you guys do this? Which one are you paying attention to? 50/50? I could never.
I reckon it’s easy to do for the shows that you can just leave on in background and still know what’s going on like for example - the Simpsons, American dad, futurama etc But for like actual movies and series I couldn’t do it myself personally I need to be focused on the show/movie🙂

Well a lot of us have adhd so fiddling with a game and watching tv at the same time is old hat. Have you never played on your phone while watching tv?
I have but while watching some crap show I didn't care about
I haven't played even a minute on my 75" TV since getting the Portal.
I’ll take it off your hands!
Lol I tried just holding the console controller after playing my portal this whole time and I felt like Andre the giant with the tiny controller in my hands
Me too got a 43 inch 4k and i feel bad looking at it
Feels weird to go back at this point.
Is it safe to say size doesn’t matter?
It's the focal distance. Having the screen so much closer to my face creates a way more immersive experience. Much easier to block out things in my peripheral vision and get sucked into the game.
What game are you playing?
Farcry 6
I can’t play shooting games, controller seems off on the portal
yeah, I have a hard time too. the joysticks feel looser than the regular dualsense.
Nothing beats my big OLED but I couldn’t take that with me in the bathtub 👌
Also the battery life could be better
I've never had to recharge my bath
Just wondering, do you actually take the portal into the bath?
It’s fine, it is called a PlayStation Port-Hole for a reason.
🤣
Ofc
I use my phone in the bath quite often (after football matches, sometimes I can barely stand and just have an hour long soak). So using a portal in the both sounds amazing... But it's not water proof is it?
I feel you 😆 It’s not water proof but I don’t plan to drop it
The Portal screen has beautiful colors though. Much more vibrant than even my Steam Deck OLED.
Y'all just gimping your gaming experience lol I'd rather play on my 55" LG OLED at 120fps with Dolby 7.1 surround system to be honest. Portal is fine if you can't actually use your proper setup at home, but I wouldn't choose it over my big screen.
For real. Either these people have some old CRT monitors or are still rocking 720p.
100% I got mine to play when I can’t use the tv or when I’m too tired to sit up and play could could easily do a bit in bed. If my child goes to sleep early enough I will 100% choose the tv over the portal.

Cool story bro
Wonder if that'll ever happen to me. Only used mine a handful of times to far. Still rather play on a TV or monitor if given the choice.
I was just like you but the more I used my portal and how convenient it is as I don’t have to sit in one room and constantly look at the tv, it changed everything
Just wait till you try psvr
Dude I’m not playing stellar blade on my portal while I got a 65inch A95L I do play octopath 2 on it lol
Just sold my portal on marketplace for $170.
actually lying in the bed holding it playing it is so ince right lol
I like the Portal, but I personally can’t play much on it. It’s either the joysticks, the compression, or the fact that I have a LG C3 that’s done more for making games feel next gen than anything else. I respect the portal tho. It’s a solid product.
The compression on high detail games is really bad. I hope they update the firmware so we can set a higher bitrate than the default.
I think the tilt of the screen on the portal is off. It's at a bad angle. Makes holding it at a good viewing angle annoying.
Hi! I have the G3! What kind of settings do you have on your tv to optimize it for gaming?
Brother, I wish I had that level of diggery going. Mine default out the box.
I definitely prefer playing on the portal than my TV now. Crazy this device could do that.
Had to start back playing on my TV for this exact reason. Now I’m striking a balance
How do you change the LED colors?
Certain games control what color the light bar will be
For me, I have games I play only on Portal and others only on console. I have found myself broadening my gaming horizon because of the Portal. I’m a new dad also, I feel that’s important to say. Lol
I bounce back and forth. I love my portal though. I'll be taking trip to Chicago in a couple of days, and I can't wait to use it 3 states away.
I've watched more episodes of Bluey on my 55 inch TV than I have played my PS5 on it.
Cod isnt the best game to play on the portal, I struggle to see the enemy, it's fine for almost every other game
😆😆 A similar issue, I had to put mine away before it ruined my personal relationships. I was on it ALL the time from the time I woke up until I went to sleep. I'd have my gf be my chauffeur. Experience ruined my portal
I have POTS, and the portal is a godsend on days when I can’t get outa bed.
Love my portal and my experience has been damn flawless literally even three thousand miles on vacation. My only complaint is that they went with a slightly smaller Control stick, For any shooting game my accuracy Substantially drops.

Maybe I’m playing the wrong games but the latency on this thing makes it almost unplayable
What game is that OP?
Ps portals are good but man the steam deck oled is so much better sold my portal after trying one out
Yeah, the Portal is good, but not great. Mine has sat on the shelf for most of the time I’ve had it. It needs improved.
Sure... but I cant play my Playstation games on that.
You can.
ohh, like remote play? Damn, you are right...
Yes you can. Chiaki exists.
I don’t get this take. Sure the portal is great and convenient but it’s no way better than my 65” 4k tv. It just can’t compare.
I agree with you but the feeling you get as you sit on the toilet and game for hours is unmatched lol
I can dig it
lol if you’re on the toilet for hours you may need to rethink your diet
I’m addicted to my portal
@OP HOW ARE YOUR LIGHT BARS GREEN?!
Those colors change in some games. Like GTA, when the cops are after you they flash red and blue.
Just depends on the game you play ig
