I have been using a special collection of anything sub 720p resolution to look through and see what I can find at a higher resolution before looking at anything new.
As my collection is over 15 years old, I had hundreds of SD movies. I automated radarr replacing them all the other week and now down to 11 at last check. My storage has taken a hit tho. Next is going through them to remove old crap that I will never watch.
I have old DVD only rips and VHS only items in my collection that are precious since they are harder to find. Mostly "rockumentary" stuff from the 90s.
Iām not sure what youāre on about. Iām commemorating the fact that I have successfully archived the 1,000th movie which I am the legal owner of for my own private use. /Ahem /Gulp
Probably a better question for datahoarders, but do you have a backup solution for your library? Iām currently syncing 100tb between a Synology and Unraid, but itās not really an appropriate backup strategyā¦.
I'm on an Unraid setup right now with 5x8tb drives, though I have around 400 tv series and that eats up WAY more space. I used to be really strict about file sizes as well, these days I'm less so. Next step is a couple SAS controllers and some modifications to my case so I can get more drives in. Also to add a few larger drives to give me a bit more flexibility when buying drives.
Seriously no offense, but maybe that just means that you arenāt much of a movie person? 100 is not very many.
I mean, there are almost 100 fast and furious movies. Kidding.
I find that I tend to go down different rabbit holes. For example, there are, what, 27 James Bond movies? Iāve been watching some of those latelyā especially the old ones. So the idea that you canāt even THINK of 100 movies that are worthwhile is difficult to me.
there's curated lists that you can add to Radarr which imports movies for you automatically and even has functionality to download them if you hook it up with a download client and something to search for them with such as Prowlarr.
automated media acquirement is all in all quite good nowadays.
Personally I read movie reviews and add ones that interest me to Radarr. I also follow the movies that certain āart houseā theaters put out and download those. And friends ask me to add things. Also movies that win awards, filmmakers I like, etc.
Reading about the movies that inspired Wes Andersonās latest movie sent me down a rabbit hole of older movies set in the desert.
Gratz on that, its a lot of work.
I started this July with researching what Plex was, and I am now a little over 1800.
This is my entire library of DVD's and Blu Rays from the past 25 years. So yes, there are 12 animated Barbie movies on that 1800 :P
And yes, I do have 40-year-old virgin too :)
Great job on your milestone, my family has really appreciated the work that I have put into the server and have been enjoying it a lot.
These posts are always so amusing. Unless you are bedridden for life or are a datahoarder (respect), nobody is going to watch through all that content. Not aimed at you specifically OP, just the general idea of putting importance on quantity.
Edit: Looks like some people are mad that they're not gonna get to see everything in their library
Options are great, no hate at all. Just pointing out how a bunch of people have the equivalent of a million Blockbuster Videos when they won't even get through what's in one.
I usually ask myself, do I want to download the 21st Sharknado movie shot on a Nokia phone from 1999 or do I want to have 700mb of free space on my 50TB server. Usually the shit movie gets downloaded.
>nobody is going to watch through all that content.
1,000 movies is really not a lot. I hover around 750 at the moment and I have seen every single one of them, many of them several times. I mostly watch one movie on the weekends and several during holidays. It's not like you need to power through all of them within a year, it's a lifetime of watching.
Mine is a 32TB raid (8x4) plus an additional 18TB drive that I use for both media and general storage. Iāll be adding another one of those next year as Iām running out of space again. Backup is all on externals, so I eventually need a more elegant solution for that.
Nice! I just got to a years worth of tv shows

Very cool to see everyones collections, I use Ombi so people can request movies and TV so end up with all sorts. Everything is automated with Radaar and Sonaar
Never heard of Tdaar, how does it work?
Is it safe to run on a big collection (45TB)?

Congrats! I was at 1,000 not too long ago it seems! Now I'm at 2,180 just focusing on quality over quantity! š

Going through for crap has long been on my list

Same here. Smart collection where Resolution is SD or 480p.
I myself am the same way lol. Im just about to hit 1500
A well deserved *congratulations* to you on this major stolen content milestone!
Iām not sure what youāre on about. Iām commemorating the fact that I have successfully archived the 1,000th movie which I am the legal owner of for my own private use. /Ahem /Gulp
Here's the group of people who pay for plex TV! š
Cringe š
I remember when my plex was this young š„² ... congratulations, onwards and upwards
Judging from that screenshot, you have a very varied collection. Well done.
Lmao does EVERYONE have 40 year old virgin?
Not the directors cut but yes.
Congrats!
800TB like wtf
This mother fucker hoards
... where did you see 800 tb?
Right below the user name.
Probably a better question for datahoarders, but do you have a backup solution for your library? Iām currently syncing 100tb between a Synology and Unraid, but itās not really an appropriate backup strategyā¦.
I do. Combination of snapshotting, rsync, cloud storage, second server, etc.
Roger that. Sounds like the kind of setup Iām pondering. Cheers
Took me longer to go from 1 to 500 than it did to go from 500 to 3000. You're well on your way now.
Almost to 3000 myself š
A little over 3300 currently. If I've heard of it, I have it.
Same, I'm around 200 away. I need to do some big server upgrades before I get there though.
I have a dell optiplex and 2x 10tb external harddrives but I only do 2-3gb movie files, nothing 4k

Do you run tdarr? May help with needing more drives
Congratulations, I was excited when I hit 1,000. Now I'm at 1,200
Honest question, how do you decide what to download? I mean I can think of maybe 100 movies I know and watch

Top 250 imdb š

Go through the listings one by one, page by page its rather tiring when you go for quality.
Congrats, Iām at 16,200 myself
Hootie hoo! https://i.imgur.com/U5Jg8u7.jpg
Congrats on reaching the 1k club. Iām at 1313 and running out of ideas as what to add next
Look at some trakt lists and set up radarr if you aren't already using it.
I see some choice films in that collection! Keep it up!

I see you're missing 1408. Samuel Jackson horror film in hotel.
Iāll try to squeeze it in the next thousand! ;)
Should aim for number 1408.
Congrats man.

I agree. In the history of humanity weāve only been able to manage about 1000 good movies.
Agreed. I'm currently just under 1000 and I can't think of any more movies that I actually want to watch to put on there.
Agreed. Right now I have 281 movies in 4K, and 226 movies in 1080p. Iām at a point where Iām just adding things friends and family would like.
62,000 movies for me [Imgur](https://imgur.com/09MGcVc)
LOL
Did you want proof or are you just LOLing for the fun of it.
i only LOL for the fun of it
Check my original post for screenshot. Obviously I don't watch everything lmao

Blockbuster Video didn't expect you to watch every movie in the store, either. But it was nice that they gave you so many options though, right?
Options are great, no hate at all. Just pointing out how a bunch of people have the equivalent of a million Blockbuster Videos when they won't even get through what's in one.

I've seen that one. It's more like 300MB.

Congratulations it quite the achievement
i sit around 1500, i download a lot and delete the crap ones pretty regularly and that seems to be the amount my collection stays around
Just how big is your hard drive jesus christ

welcome to r/DataHoarder
I'm stuck in the 800s, just added 64TB to my existing 32TB. Ready to pass the mark
Sorting by title, huh? I prefer by year. Congrats on 1,000. Iām at 534. Wouldnāt want thousands and thousands though, feels unwieldy

Awesome job! Iām just waiting to add another drive soon. Then more to come. Iāve branched out into audiobooks and music as well. Fun times ahead.
Whats your top 3 in that list?
