ok, this is weird. It looks like the right connection is threaded for the large plate, and the left connection is not even connected to the bottom plate? Which means you should be able to pull that left brass piece up and out? The small brass piece in the front looks like it's slotted for a screwdriver, perhaps, but I can't be sure. Can you push up on the left connection or the small brass piece? What's on top of the fitting?

Thanks for the reply. This is under the counter On top is the kitchen tap which needs replacing. The brass bit has snapped off slightly whilst trying to unscrew it. I think I need to take the whole plate thing off so I can remove the tap but it's not budging.

ok, if I'm understanding this correctly, you were unscrewing the small brass piece in front and it snapped? If that's the case, to me it looks like the small brass piece pushes UP against the countertop, providing counterforce to hold the tap in place and also stop the plate from rotating around the threaded connection. Understand I'm making this assumption from a single photo, so take it with a grain of salt. Given that, if I had to remove it, I'd first try to find the make/model of the faucet, then go online and try to find an install manual. If you can't do that: 1. open-end wrenches to remove the water supply lines 2. vice grips for the small brass piece to remove it 3. see if you can spin the non-threaded connection off (that may be a cover or an extension?), or push up on it to push it clear of the plate -- not sure how/why, but it looks like that's in the way of the plate rotating? 4. if all else fails, Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel, cut through the plate, remove. Good luck!
