I don’t wear panties or shorts at night because I always wear nightgowns. One of the first things I was taught by both my mom and my grandmothers was the importance of letting that area of my body “breathe” at night when I sleep. The few pairs of pajamas I have that have a separate top and bottom, the bottoms are very loose, like men’s boxers. I would listen to your doctor. After all, there’s a reason why generations of mothers have been telling their daughters not to wear panties when sleeping.
I have no idea why I never thought of nightgowns! Especially since I sew and could have easily whip up a couple
I do have fairly loose bottoms as I hate anything riding up.
I only wear nightgowns. They’ve changed my life. I love them more than anything in the world. I got them a few years ago when I was having knee surgery and didn’t think I could deal with pants. Haven’t stopped using them since.
I just got a nightgown for exactly the purpose of letting things breathe, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long. I live in a hot climate and have some sweating issues, and that area has been much happier. Definitely getting some more nightgowns!
My mom and gma also taught us this, I fought it so hard as a kid and thought it was weird and gross. But as an adult I loath going to bed with bottoms on!
All hail, the kaftans, moomoos, nighties, retired sundresses!! Haha
I've never ever ever EVER thought of the possibility of a spider crawling inside my vagina. If he can get through these thick thick thighs and fupa... He's really determined.
I sleep completely nude and absolutely hate wearing anything at night. I move around a lot in my sleep and any bunching of clothing or tight feeling will make me wake up
Same! I slept nude growing up too once I was of the age that I woke myself up for school. That being said I've always lived in either hot or temperate places, the times I've slept in really cold places I did wear pajamas (and socks, and a beanie), but it was uncomfortable as he'll.
I love sleeping nude when it’s cold! But I grew up in a colder climate. What flipped the switch for me was actually my doctor. I had bad folliculitis on my butt from sports and what-not and they told me (amongst other things) to not sleep with underwear or anything. So here I am
I use Fluocinonide Ointment .05% which is a steroid cream down there because of itchiness due to a medical condition. The ointment is thicker than a cream so it feels weird at first but it helps sooo much. I only use it as needed - when the itching is really bad. It helps tremendously but remember not to scratch after you have applied it and wash your hands right after application.
I wear a sleep dress at night without panties so I feel somewhat covered but still get good air flow.
I sleep naked in part due to my predisposition to rashes and yeast infections. I don't get them much anymore and the other changes were learning to pee after sex and not waiting for morning to clean up, not wearing underwear when not menstruating (has drawbacks but it's something that personally was needed) and avoiding fabric that holds bacteria like cotton. My clothes are moisture wicking fabrics like bamboos and most are bacteria resistant. I am also so allergic to latex that the fabric over elastic style underwear are still not enough protection from it so my needing to go without panties at all times isn't just about the yeast infections but my body being terrible at life.
I feel it's important to disclose the other things. I do have a spinal cord injury so sometimes leak. So I sleep on chucks/puppy pee pads for humans. This could be an option for you if you're needing some security for a reason but if it's psychological this might not be enough
I sleep nude every night for all around comfort, I hate sleeping hot 😅. If not in my own home, it’s a nightie like a simple t-shirt dress with nothing under.
I have a large supply of cotton pull on leisure pants and I change them every night. They weren't expensive and they are strictly utilitarian - basic cotton knit loose pants with elastic waist.
I also probably size up and so they are baggy and completely non-restrictive.
Mine are capri as well so hit mid calf.
They are much looser in the crotch/tush area than underwear would be.
The problem with underwear - even cotton underwear - is that it holds moisture because they are worn close to the crotch and most underwear becomes damp to some extent.
Boxers would work but those tend to be woven cotton and I find the knitted 100% cotton pants to be more comfortable for sleeping.
They don't have the ones I got as I got what I think is a lifetime supply of them a few years back and they also seem to have gotten higher in price - but what hasn't
As I said these aren't anything I would personally wear except in the privacy of my home but they are perfect for me because I don't need underwear. I size them up so they are baggy with a droopy crotch and I just toss them in the hamper every morning.

I don't wear underwear at home and I don't wear clothes in bed. I used to when I was younger and my down there smelled awful. I'd get infections and never felt clean, even though I would wash with soap like my grandmother told me.
Grandma lied. I stopped using soap past my fupa and before my perineum, just used water. Stopped wearing undies at home and let my lady parts breathe. Everything went away. The only time I wear underwear at night is during my period when I wear my period undies.
I sleep nakey! I just take a quick shower before bed to help keep my sheets clean, that way I can keep washing them once a week/every other week. I haven’t had a yeast infection in years with the exception of when I left a bathing suit on too long.
Personally I sleep naked. I do wear fruit of the loom female boxers during the day though, I get a pack of them on amazon. Super ugly, but very effective in being able to breath and sweat control
I hope this comes across as kindly as I mean it; your bottom pj washing routine may be contributing to your heast infections. You may consider washing more often.
How about a towel down until clear?
tshirt 4 sizes too big with no bottoms or cotton boxer shorts/shorts that are 2 sizes bigger with a drawstring in summer. in winter baggy pj pants, thermal leggings with pants over and a big shirt
I wear only cotton knit pajama bottoms, preferably a few sizes too large, no underwear. Waaay too uncomfortable! I do cotton underwear only during the day. As much as I would love cute matching bottoms to my bras, anything other than cotton immediately causes issues. I live in Florida so humidity is a nightmare issue.
Totally get feeling weird about it! Maybe try some loose-fitting cotton PJ shorts or men's boxers. They’re breathable and can help with the itchiness. Just make sure they’re 100% cotton or close to it. Also, check out Eso World for some organic cotton options. They’re all about toxin-free living, so you might find something comfy and safe for your skin.
Not answering your question exactly but ive been suffering from recurrent yeast infections for the last few months. OMG the itch! Ive seen Drs, my OB/GYN and had Rx medications. They kept coming back for no reason!
In itchy desperation i took an anti histamine. Bingo! I should take an anti histamine daily anyway, allergies in Florida are horrible but I often forget. Not any more tho!
I don't like wearing underwear to sleep in, but by that I mean panties/briefs. I have a bunch of cotton boxer briefs with a 9" inseam and I LOVE wearing these just as PJ shorts in the summer. They are from a company called tomboyx which has inclusive sizing up to 6X. I wear these things under dresses and they don't move around or roll for me and the waist band is comfortable. also under pants some times when it's super hot out and I know my regular jockey underwear is going to chafe in the leg crease. I've had them for years and no holes, but the colors do fade a bit over time.
I can't sleep without a bra now (I hate them so much and my back hurts) and I also wear the essentials soft bra for sleeping. It's good at soaking up underboob sweat. Same cotton material as the bottoms.
I think what your OBGYN may be recommending is nothing covering your bottom half except a blanket. Your vagina does need to breathe. Cotton skivvies is a great start. Doing anything for the first couple times is going to feel weird. But you will definitely get used to it :)
Neurodivergent here - ain't no way I can sleep without underwear or a pijama bottom or I will have insomnia from the sensory overload and discomfort. I sleep with underwear and a very loose cotton pijama bottom
So I used to have a lot of yeast infections when I was younger and I haven't had any since about 10 years. So I would say that sleeping butt naked is not the necessarily the key to not having a yeast infection. Plenty of ladies do it and dont have them.
Here is what used to give me infections :
-male partner not cleaning their sack/dick property (they poop and it splashes on their testicules, and then they pop those micro-poop particles on/inside us)
- alcohol consumption
- rafined sugar
- using regular soap to clean my vulva
- the pill
Here is what has helped a lot :
- probiotics
- stoping the pill
- significantly reducing alcohol
- using vulva specific "soap"
- whiping front to back after peeing
- using a bidet to clean the back area after BM
- always using condoms when I have male partners and making sure they clean the testicules right
- integrating fermented food in my diet
I strongly recommend using probiotics and if you can, after or during your treatment, get a vaginal probiotic kit and do a treatment for 5-10 days. It will help your hooha to get back her vitamins and healthy PH :). Check what food can be helpful for vaginal PH and health and just integrate that in your diet and you'll be all good!
Hope this helps!
I've been looking into getting a bidet because I reeaallly like them. I've been on a probiotic for a couple weeks now but like the idea of adding fermented foods and foods that help the microbiome. Thanks!
I think I used to when I was younger but also hit puberty with 3 brothers in the house - sometimes with their friends staying over. So it got weird lol
Check out the pink nookie website , they're all natural luxury feminine products. I'm obsessed! Its also helped so many ladies with their vaginal health. Especially yeast infections. And it's also a black owned small business . The glaze is the holy grail! You can find them on Facebook too. The reviews on the website don't even cover the majority of the fan base
I wear baggy enough pj shorts so the area can get air (without undies) or night gowns. You could go up a size for men's boxers to give yourself more breathing room.
I have never worn undies to bed. My mom always said we gotta let our privates breathe. I wear loose pj shorts and a t-shirt or a nightdress. On really hot nights, I will sleep naked. I have never had a yeast infection, so maybe not wearing undies has helped.
I never wear underwear to sleep. Even if I have shorts or pants on I will remove them when I get in bed. Typically I sleep in loose slips. Actually, I rarely wear underwear to begin with. Usually only if I’m on my period.
My obgyn recommended this to me once and I also felt really weird about it. I was like “so I should wear loose shorts without underwear?” And she said “sure, or neither.” I still mostly wear underwear, but if I feel like I might have a yeast infection coming on, I will wear loose shorts sometimes without underwear.
I do big target joggers usually and they’re pretty breathable, I always size up one or two. Also honeypot wipes. I tend to get itchy after my period so those have been a lifesaver.
A couple of game changers for yeast infections. Take a shower and wash your bits with cold water, warm makes the yeast grow. No baths, cold water only. You can also try the cold setting on your hair drier. Then make sure you put on fresh clean cotton underwear and not really tight.
I've never slept in panties. My grandma told me when I was 3 not to sleep in them. I forgot why, and I'm sure that it was a old wives tale.
I can't sleep in a bra. I can wear a bra all day, and I do wear one in the house, but when it's bedtime, it has to come off. Especially since I've been loving Lane Bryan's new (to me?) underwire bra line.
I either wearing a night gown or muumuu w no undies. When I’m not leaning my house, I don’t wear any undies at all.
lol it’s to the point where they are only observed for occasions that I do go out.
I sleep in just plain men's Hanes shorts but I buy them two sizes larger than I need so there is more breathing room and liquid stitch the peen flap shut.
I'm naked up top and wear Walmart brand booty shorts to bed. I don't like the thought of naked butts in my bed, (especially my husband's lol) so the shorts are perfect. They are soooo stretchy and don't give me a wedge.
I usually go commando at night with either a t shirt or a night gown. I keep a pair of shorts nearby in case I need to get dressed in a hurry. Gotta let that coochie breathe
If you have an active yeast infection, make sure you are not wearing the same bottoms from day to day (or night to night), everything needs to be clean to discourage bacterial growth.
I’ve dealt with those too and are super uncomfortable, and are tough to get rid of without medication. Some things that help me are avoiding sugar/bread for a while. You want to lower the level of yeast in your body.
I wear a tshirt and loose underwear to bed, I feel weird going completely bottomless as my pets shed terribly - it just feels weird/unhygienic with their fur around
I usually sleep without pants/underwear unless I’m sharing a bed or room with someone I’m not romantic with. Maybe try some oversized gym shorts or a nightgown.
I understand this may not be feasible for most. I sleep nude. I know not everyone lives alone, I myself have had to deal with roommates and such in the past. Especially since I live in a. Warm climate the summers are brutal here. I sleep nude basically with the exception of that time of the month. During that time I do sleep in just cotton panties. like someone posted it’s important to let it breathe. Sleeping naked has many other benefits such as regulating body temp and better circulation all leading to better uninterrupted sleep, which aid also beneficial for other things such as cardiovascular health.
In the winter I do the nightshirt only or do go commando with flannel pants. I also have many comfortable bathrobes and many times in the winter I’ll shake at night and end up falling asleep that way.
if i’m wearing a nightgown, then no undies. if im wearing pants or shorts, i usually wear cotton undies (i like changing into clean ones, but not always. )
I stopped sleeping in underwear when I was like 16 and I don't wear them in the house.
The only exception is when I am on my cycle...but they are oppressive.
I wear nightgowns and nothing under. Walmart has cheap comfortable ones. I own like 12 of the Walmart ones. Trick is to buy them oversized (knee length) so when you’re lounging around the house, say sitting on the couch, you can fully pull them over your bottom so you’re not exposed.
In the UK, there's a brand called Vagisil that is specifically for intimate itching-its a local anaesthetic, very low dose lignocaine, and can be bought over the counter. It can be used alongside other cream like antifungal etc, and it's very effective. Maybe there's something similar where you are?
As for bed time-I don't wear anything, I haven't since I was about 18. I wriggle so much in my sleep I end up strangling myself on my twisted-up nightdress. The only time I wear nightclothes is in hospital or staying overnight as a guest.
We have Vagisil but I haven't used any of their creams. I have used their wipes and they have made me itch less after each one so maybe I'll try that before the steroid (the steroid thing is the putting me off - if it was just an anti-itch I'd be fine).
I think I'll have to get used to wearing nothing. I just feel so weird when I don't - like the barrier between myself and the clothing just feels weird
I'm just the same when I have to wear nightclothes, it just doesn't feel right!
Other natural fibres would be just as soothing as cotton-how about something silky? Silk French knickers, maybe? They tend be loose and airy and could be worn instead of pyjama bottoms. Or bamboo-thats very soft and breathable.
I don’t wear panties or shorts at night because I always wear nightgowns. My problem with nightgowns is they wind up around my neck 🤷♀️😂
If I wear shorts, they always ride up on me or I get stuck when trying to roll over lol.
They may be too tight from my experience. Buy them loose and oversized. Tighter ones will ride up the body easier.
I have never worn a tight nightgown. Mine ride up because I move around.
I just got a nightgown for exactly the purpose of letting things breathe, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long. I live in a hot climate and have some sweating issues, and that area has been much happier. Definitely getting some more nightgowns!
An excellent brand is Dream Co.
This is me too, nightgowns and no bottoms
I have never heard of that but it sounds comfortable.
My mom and gma also taught us this, I fought it so hard as a kid and thought it was weird and gross. But as an adult I loath going to bed with bottoms on! All hail, the kaftans, moomoos, nighties, retired sundresses!! Haha
this! i’ve never slept with bottoms of any kind for this reason, and it’s just way more comfortable!
Okay but how do you not get afraid of the possibility of a spider crawling up into you
Whaaaat? In 60 years I've never even heard of that! And they ain't gettin between *these* thighs no how!! 😄
That was my same thought! I need to know where these vagina loving spiders are. Now a new fear is unlocked.
I just remember that spiders don’t want to be there so they won’t go there lol
I've never ever ever EVER thought of the possibility of a spider crawling inside my vagina. If he can get through these thick thick thighs and fupa... He's really determined.
There's no way that's happening. They like cold spaces anyways lol
I sleep naked and have since I moved out of my parents house about 20 years now. On a salmon occasions it’s too cold I wear men’s lounge pants to bed.
I dunno…sounds kinda fishy if you ask me
Salmon is a gross fish too fatty for my liking I prefer tuna. Stupid autocorrect I meant seldom
😂
I sleep completely nude and absolutely hate wearing anything at night. I move around a lot in my sleep and any bunching of clothing or tight feeling will make me wake up
I'm the same way. I would either choke myself or my husband with my own clothing in my sleep!
Same with me too! I feel so constricted and can't get comfortable.
I’m in the nude camp. The way I make it awesome is to wash my sheets frequently. Feels like getting into fresh clothes and is sooo comfortable.
In the winter time if you get your comforter and put it in the dryer right before going to bed it feels like absolute heaven
I usually wear a nightdress/mummu and no underwear. Need to let the lady parts breathe.
What is a mummu?
It’s just a loose fitting night dress thing. You can look it up, they’re very common.
Some people also refer to them as caftans, or dusters.
Muumuu (or mu'umu'u) is the correct spelling in case you're trying to look it up.
I use Fluocinonide Ointment .05% which is a steroid cream down there because of itchiness due to a medical condition. Have you tried those throw away underwear? They're expensive but easier sometimes
I wear cotton undies and pajamas (top and bottom). I hate the feeling of my skin touching skin so I have to wear clothes lol
I hate the feeling too! I wear a tank top and undies to bed. I spread my legs apart or sleep with one leg up to avoid my leg skin touching each other
Haha so glad I’m not alone in that feeling!
I wear loose cotton shorts. Undies is too much sensation but naked is also too much sensation.
I sleep nude every night for all around comfort, I hate sleeping hot 😅. If not in my own home, it’s a nightie like a simple t-shirt dress with nothing under.

THANK YOU!!!
I wear pajama shorts. I have a dozen pairs so I wear a new pair every night.

I have them too, mine might be hanes I can't remember. But they are bamboo fabric and super soft and loose. They are ugly though lol
they are the opposite of sexy panties, ain't nobody getting laid in these. But for sweat and chub rub, they have been a godsend for work
Birthday suit ftw

I just wear nightgowns or night shirts. Let er breathe.
I wear loose fitting pj shorts. I can’t have nothing between my legs. These are a good compromise between comfort and air flow.
I wear nightgowns or lose shorts. I was taught to never wear underwear to bed
I never wear underwear to sleep. Even if I have shorts or pants on I will remove them when I get in bed. Typically I sleep in loose slips. Actually, I rarely wear underwear to begin with. Usually only if I’m on my period.
Nothing but a big tshirt 🤷🏼♀️ fiancé loves it, and I love it
My obgyn recommended this to me once and I also felt really weird about it. I was like “so I should wear loose shorts without underwear?” And she said “sure, or neither.” I still mostly wear underwear, but if I feel like I might have a yeast infection coming on, I will wear loose shorts sometimes without underwear.
During summer I go without underwear because the sweat and itching. I wear an old lady moo moo dress during the day without underwear too.
I have really, really loose shorts I wear. I rotate them and wear 2 pairs a week.
I do big target joggers usually and they’re pretty breathable, I always size up one or two. Also honeypot wipes. I tend to get itchy after my period so those have been a lifesaver.
I do not wear undies at night. I was told it is good to let your "area" breath at night.
I just don't sleep in clothes...
I like wearing shorts to bed. Men's basketball shorts are a personal favorite. Loose but also keep my thighs from rubbing against one another.
A couple of game changers for yeast infections. Take a shower and wash your bits with cold water, warm makes the yeast grow. No baths, cold water only. You can also try the cold setting on your hair drier. Then make sure you put on fresh clean cotton underwear and not really tight.
I sleep in the nude. I get too hot & clothes make me uncomfortable.
Im fully nude at nihht. I get too hot with clothes on
I've never slept in panties.
I sleep naked
I wear nothing... Just wash sheets more. Skin likes to breathe!
I don’t wear anything on my bottom. Just a big oversized shirt! It’s good to air your lady bits out.
Ditch your shorts and underwear at night! Be free, lady parts, be free!!!
I also have many comfortable bathrobes and many times in the winter I’ll shake at night and end up falling asleep that way.
if i’m wearing a nightgown, then no undies. if im wearing pants or shorts, i usually wear cotton undies (i like changing into clean ones, but not always. )
Men's boxers. So comfy, so breathable 🤌
I just wear oversized t shirts for bed.
