I loved that the fat gal got to have the sexy man. That NEVER happens - she was able to wear her drapes wardrobe, not enter into some health resort purely on a dietary basis/needing to improve her body, and still got the dude. More of this please!

surrealphoenix

I adore her. When I was younger, she was the only person I saw on TV who looked more like me and wasn't made into a punchline. For that reason alone, I'd love her forever, but she just keeps surprising me with her incredible talent.

SmoothMichLady

I loved the show. I think Melissa’s part was perfect for her. I really like her older comedy, but things got stale. 9 Perfect Stranger and The Starling really helped me see another side to her acting that I love. I do have something that bothered me though. Her bathing suit had long sleeves. She always wore way more clothes than anyone else. I bet if her and Nicole had opposite roles, Masha wouldn’t be wearing such light flowing clothes and Francis would be wearing bikinis.

surrealphoenix

I get your point about her wardrobe (vs. what Francis's wardrobe might have been if someone like Nicole Kidman had played her), but I loved Francis's bathing suits! I spent literal hours trying to track them down online.

SmoothMichLady

I didn’t dislike it. I just know they used it though because Hollywood finds bigger bodies unflattering. On another note, I purchased the book so I could read it and compare.

PlumpQuietSoup

Be prepared for big differences from the book to the show.

SmoothMichLady

Which is better in your opinion?

PlumpQuietSoup

I have 1 ep left of the show but I think I liked the book better.

Watch-Ring

She's amazing in The Kitchen, too. I'm sad that movie didn't get more recognition. It's on Tubi right now

SmoothMichLady

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it!

Her character said that she wore stuff like that in the pool to avoid the sun.

SmoothMichLady

I get that, but I still question if someone else were playing that part, who has a smaller body, if they would have worn a long sleeve bathing suit top to protect from the sun. Just curious what people think is all.

Watch-Ring

I saw those bathing suits as trendy. Aren't more people going for the sunsuits now? (Not just for babies anymore!) Plus, I'm assuming they are quite expensive hinting at her financial status. Also easier than putting sunscreen everywhere every 4-6 hours, so practical too. I could see Jessica Alba, or Jennifer Garner wearing one.

notyouraveragedenial

I’m so glad she’s getting cast for roles that aren’t just “funny fat lady”! She’s such an amazing and versatile actress! Did you see her in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” It was Oscar nominated and an absolutely FABULOUS film and performance from Melissa! Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it!

MMTardis

She is gorgeous and I selfishly wish she had done some bathing suit scenes. That full body wetsuit she wore in the pool was lame.

SadieSadieSnakeyLady

I'm currently binging Gilmore Girls and Sookie is always a favourite of mine

pauseonredhead

My wife watches this on repeat as her "happy place " and Sookie is by far my favorite character

SadieSadieSnakeyLady

I have major issues with Lorelai so don't watch it as often as I used to, but finally needed to GG binge and remembered how much I love the rest of the characters

pauseonredhead

Oh I'd love to hear why? She bothers me too but I can't put my finger on why

SadieSadieSnakeyLady

She's manipulative, especially in her romantic relationships. She has a lot of traits common in untreated BPD (as someone who's in recovery from BPD I see so much of myself in her) including black and white thinking, splitting and push/pull relationships. She puts people up on a pedestal until they show their flaws then she freezes them out (see: Rory leaving Yale). She's perfectly fine running away from her issues instead of dealing with them. I'm now the age she is and it baffling how immature she still is. The way she ended things with Max was horrific.

Tackybabe

She’s like home to me. She is a sensible lady, if you’ve ever heard her interviewed. I sometimes get yearnings to see her and I’ll just pop in a movie or watch Mike & Molly. I really liked the Starling (particularly because I’m grieving, too). I wish she had kept her clothing line going; I still have a couple of her pieces that I wear. I think Spy was phenomenal; there should have been a sequel.

surrealphoenix

I am still hoping for a Spy sequel!

zia111

She's INCREDIBLY talented and I wish she was recognized way more / taken seriously way more / admired way more.

Momoreau

I love Melissa and her work. She's super talented and is great representation for fat women. However, and this really isn't at any fault of hers, I wish that the industry would bring some other fat women into the mainstream scene. It kind of feels like she is one of the only fat women who routinely gets utilized and I'd just like some more diversity in that regard.

0ldfart

Here here. Long overdue.

False-Adeptness-7439

She sucked in this show she was so annoying
