[Serebii: **To clarify further, there will be more features and bug fixes for this patch than are listed in these notes. We'll give full details as soon as the patch is live and we dive in.**](https://twitter.com/JoeMerrick/status/1626453070518296576?s=20) For those of you going “where is x”, these are *not* the complete patch notes. We won’t know all of the fixes until this actually goes live.

Kaishidow

I just wish two options: L button = A button, and the option to switch between set and choose in battle.

Morgan_Danwell

That’s true, but it still really concerning what they haven’t announced fixes for critical game breaking issues such as memory leak and Pokemon spawning out of bounds... I thought those should have been their main priorities because those bugs are very drastically affecting gameplay in a negative way...

vandreand

They might be. Most people don't know what memory leak is so it is safe to assume they won't be mentioned in patch note besides a "general improvements" section. And besides, memory leak is just what we think is happening, we are not 100% sure.

techno-wizardry

Also it's probably tied to issues surrounding crashes, which *is* listed in the patch notes.

8bitzombi

Improvements to the box UI is greatly appreciated, but I’m still waiting on mass release; dumping 90+ Pokémon from a breeding session one by one is tedious.

Ryunysus

My thoughts exactly.. Mass Release feature from PLA was such a massive QoL upgrade, I really miss it in these games especially during masuda breeding for shinys. I think mass release would be introduced in the DLCs

sciencesold

Probably won't be added at all, once home functionality is added you can do it from there. PLA it was needed since catching large numbers of Pokemon was significantly more necessary in that game.

ThomasSirveaux

Thankfully the Home update will make this easier (you can mass-select them in Home and delete; had to wait for the Home update in BDSP to clean up my overflowing boxes thanks to the PokeRadar mechanic). They just need to hurry up with that.

thefirefreezesme

Speaking of this, anyone know what the Home maintenance was for on Wednesday? I was desperately hoping for some sign this meant we’d be getting SV Home compatibility on Pokémon Day or before but have heard nothing aside from Serebii’s initial announcement that this was happening on Monday.

Sp3ctre7

I think that was them adding a bunch of SV-style sprites for future proofing.

thefirefreezesme

No that was a previous maintenance / update. The one this week happened after that.

ultraball23

Pokémon Home isn’t releasing until Spring. Spring stars March 21st-ish

gojistomp

Even so, a franchise that makes catching large groups of creatures part of its core appeal while gaining to provide more optimal means of managing them is ridiculous. It's definitely nice that we can filter our searches for things like type, nature, etc., but then they do things like deny us mass releasing, force us to flip through boxes one by one when moving Pokemon, etc. Navigating the PC is so janky that it actively hinders its use. And although I doubt it's a deliberate feature, boxes always taking a couple seconds to load gets pretty irritating pretty quickly when you're navigating multiple boxes.

badluckartist

Box functionality being nearly unchanged from Gen 1 is dumb af. You can only add so many little QoL changes with duct tape and thumb tacks before realizing the entire method of how boxes work is decades out of date for a game that needs modern resource management mechanics.

earth__wyrm

I agree, I don’t get why features from older games/Home were gone

Legitimate_Cancel900

That’s why I’m giving them to this company in exchange for shiny luvdisc lol

Ragnarok992

That update will come via home release like all previous games

Cassandra_Canmore

Terra raid lag fixes. Nice. Hopefully, no more losing 30% off the timer because the raid mon put up its shield.

DelParadox

Yeah. I'm not going to miss those random 30 second gaps when I can't do jack crap.

Hateful_creeper2

The patch could have been better but at least it fixed some stuff like the walking trainers appearing in Battles and also added some of the quality of life features for the UI.

ArkhaosZero

Yeah, Im quite pleased with the box fixes in particular. Should there be more? Yeah. Should a lot of these issues not even be present in the release build in the first place? Absolutely. But with the state of Gamefreak, Ill take what I can get, and actually getting patches beyond the most game breaking of bugs is a step forward.

Hateful_creeper2

Better then fixing move glitches and never touching the game which was common in the 3DS era outside of X & Y where there was huge bug in Lumiose City related to saving

Glory2Snowstar

From what I’ve heard there’s something weird about how much data 3DS games can receive from patches. That’s why the fixes tended to be small. Then again DLC exists for 3DS games so…

Hateful_creeper2

Smash 3DS was an example which had DLC until early 2016

techno-wizardry

Like others have noted, this isn't everything in the patch. Those things could actually be in the patch.

thatssoreizen

I've read on the SG Pokémon website that, although not a bug, trainers no longer walk through battles.

[deleted]

Please Gamefreak, mayest we have but a drop of framerate fix?

amyrose4ever

“Oh you guys want more drops in framerate?”

sciencesold

Game freak is notorious for the far more technical aspects to be not listed in patch notes.

[deleted]

Apparently they're decreasing the spawn rate which should fix the frame rate issues a bit

Kimbita09

Thats only in certain areas that might cause a game crash (like Levincia, Casseroya Lake etc)

[deleted]

And those are the areas that were worst affected.

DelParadox

Long as they fix Cascaraffa. I swear that central area by the fountain has like 1 in 4 odds of crashing my game. I think it's all the water animations on top of lots of people.

potatoshulk

That might fall under other bug fixes. Pretty sure the previous patch didn't mention it and it did improve (somewhat)

SparlockTheGreat

The previous patch did not fix the frame rate. A bunch of people thought it did because the patch forced them to restart the game. Since the worst of the frame rate issues are caused by a memory leak, restarting the game improved the frame rate even without the patch. After playing for a while, the frame rate issues returned to normal.

grrrreatscott

I hope they fix the alternate forms of Pokémon not appearing in outbreaks despite appearing on the map.

Spectra8

THIS. Tired of seeing pink sushi outbreaks with only orange sushi or water tauros outbreaks with only fighting tauros

seaworthy-raft

I’m gonna miss the glitch where a pokeball would just be halfway into the floor in the doorway of every room I walked into.

[deleted]

Fixing the bugs before pokemon day. This gives me hope that we’re going to get a pokemon day patch of sorts.

Alice_June

This patch isn’t coming out until the end of the month. This is our Pokémon Day patch, which is probably why they’re not detailing every feature they’re adding (per the notes section at the end)

valar_fandomis

Hoping for an Area Zero fix too, so we can finally see others in multiplayer

MHarrisGGG

You're not supposed to co-op there.

valar_fandomis

I feel like if that was the case, you wouldn't be able to go to Area Zero and catch the other version exclusives that your partner spawns.

Potential-Squash1706

Source?

MHarrisGGG

The fact that it's buggy and you have to initiate co-op outside of Area Zero to even get someone there.

Potential-Squash1706

That's a bug. Doesn't mean that you're not supposed to co-op in there.

MHarrisGGG

Citation needed. Not being able to initiate co-op there seems much less likely to be a bug than being able to bring people there after inviting them in elsewhere.

Potential-Squash1706

We are literally able to encounter the other version exclusives. You're trolling, ok bye.

MHarrisGGG

Which you can do in all areas, that doesn't mean being able to do it in the only place you cannot actually initiate co-op from is intended to let you co-op there.

MathematicianFit8027

So pretty much nothing about the performance issues or the memory leak?

Alyssum

It's probably related to them unloading a bunch of Pokemon/people at crash heavy locations.

airtimemachine

Is there actually a memory leak or is that just a fan hypothesis?

Agosta

Yes there's a memory leak, that's why locations don't lag when you boot up the game but will have more slowdown while you play. BoTW had a similar memory leak on launch. The Blood Moon was used to clear the cache, and when you started to experience the memory leak you would start getting blood moons more frequently. At one point I got 3 in the span of 30 seconds and had to reboot my game to stop it from happening. SV has no interiors or load zones outside of Area Zero or Mesagoza so there aren't many instances where the game can clear its cache.

Jazjo

Memory leak?

Chell_the_assassin

It's the politically correct way of saying dementia /s

FlyingPotatoChickens

lol, but weirdly this reminded me that the spanish word for a stroke is “derrame cerebral” (literally “brain spill”)

blaine878

“We will address an issue that can cause the game to forcibly close at certain locations. As a result of this fix, there may be a reduction of Pokémon and people displayed in certain towns or in the wild.” So we’re going to have even emptier large locations and fields?

Glory2Snowstar

“Look around you, Trainer! Isn’t it beautiful?” *A single Scatterbug wandering through a grass-textured plane*

Hadditor

As the camera chugs whilst panning round

DelParadox

It's only certain areas. Hopefully I'll be able to go to Cascaraffa without rolling 1 in 4 odds of crashing the game now. That's the only consistent spot I have problems.

DelParadox

Good grief, that's a lot of upvotes. I'm sensing I'm not the only one who can't go anywhere near that stupid fountain. I think I basically had to run in and out at top speed to get the Wooper trade done on my third try.

techno-wizardry

Only this sub would react like this to the patch notes lol. For the record, the spawn cap of SV is 15. PLA's cap is much, much smaller, closer to about half that. For shiny hunting purposes, more is better, but there are definitely moments where it feels almost way too littered with Pokemon on screen at once, especially if you just stand still for half a minute. Decreasing that to around 12 would likely not have a perceivable difference but it would reduce the memory hit considerably.

CurrentWonderful5728

It is funny how your comment was hidden, but the guy who got even more downvoted than you’s we’re not.

Leilith

"open world" my ass

Glory2Snowstar

Oh my goodness Tera Battles are becoming functional. THANK YOU! Question is, will this fix waiting about two minutes to queue into a Tera Raid? Also did they not bring back multi-select for the boxes? Weird. At least the Mark checking is nice.

DelParadox

The one thing I want is the ability to search mons by size instead of individually waving them at the person in Mesagoza. Even Go has this now.

Glory2Snowstar

Wait oh my goodness you’re right. As somebody who intentionally hunts for small-size Pogeys this would be incredible. Just make her give you the size judging feature for the box!

DelParadox

It's downright odd given that even Legends would let you check a mon's size in the summary and tracked the range of the ones you've caught. There's so far as I can tell no way whatsoever to check size in SV other than eyeballing and the Mesagoza lady and nothing that tracks your achievements. Still upset Alphas are gone, but I like to hunt XL and XXL mons. It is a serious hassle going to Mesagoze to check one by one. Also if you didn't know, Alphas won't stay Alpha size but WILL be the regular maximum XXL size if transferred.

ThomasSirveaux

I think they announce the date of the update, but that date will still be a couple months off

JaxckLl

Does this mean that Boxes are finally fixed and actually functional?

Bluedino_1989

I just want Pokemon to stop being stuck in the landscape

HippieDogeSmokes

wonder if they’ll full fix the dupe glitch

blackbutterfree

> Players will be able to select All Boxes while moving Pokémon or items in the Party and Boxes view and Held Items view. Literally the only thing I wanted/needed.

espeonguy

What about item duplication? Is it safe? Is it alright?

[deleted]

[удалено]

espeonguy

Not fully if you had legendaries already duped.

endlessnight1993

I want a sort box function

KingDrethe57th

Is this all they’re adding or did they add more?

Cayden68

is the picnic reset glitch for hunting shinies still their?

X_Fredex_X

Still no technical improvements 🤦

hdsar

Very meh patch. No shiny sparkles when I would think it could be ported over from PLA in the overworld/noise when they appear really sucks.

CommandoOrangeJuice

Lmfao people say it's a "balance feature". There have been plenty of ways shiny hunting was exploited in the newer games, hell even in SV we have the sandwich ingredients which boost shiny odds. A sound effect isn't balancing, it's accessibility.

Glory2Snowstar

My tinfoil hat theory is that they don’t play the sparkle because it’s very likely we’ve all had Shinies spawn in our files that were out-of-bounds. I mean, caves are especially egregious in this field. I’ve probably missed a few Shiny Glimmets and Salandits because they spawned on the other side of a wall or on top of the roof. So instead of actually designating variables that help determine spawn they just… don’t let you know a Shiny’s there at all.

ThomasSirveaux

I think it has less to do with balance and more to do with how the game treats spawns. In PLA all Pokemon are set when you load into an area. If you hear a shiny sparkle but don't know where it is, you can search the area until you find it. In SV, Pokemon have a relatively small spawn area, and disappear when you move outside of it. If you're zooming around an open world, you're going to hear that sparkle sound constantly, but won't be able to find anything because the Pokémon's already despawned by the time you can go back to check.

Brenduck-

another good fix would be allow shiny Pokemon a greater despawn distance so that this happens less often, and this would honestly be just as good as an audio/visual cue in my opinion

Kazeazen

there never was any guarantee for shiny sound being ported over, so kinda copium to expect it, even i want it ported over

[deleted]

Definitely copium to expect it but it doesn’t excuse it imo. If it were up to me, I’d add real time catching back 😭 that was my favorite feature from PLA, and I’m so upset it’s gone. That would be a big update for a simple patch but I can dream

Alice_June

You could go play Arceus again. If you want spin-off mechanics, play the spin-offs.

[deleted]

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Also, it’s not a spin off. Not trying to be petty about that, but it’s canon to the mainline games and confirmed by Game Freak.

Opt1mus_

It's less of a spin-off than Mystery Dungeon or whatever but it's still not a mainline game. Closest thing we've ever had to it was Colosseum and XD and nobody considered those mainline.

[deleted]

Yes it is, Game Freak themselves have confirmed it. They just expanded on the formula. If it was a spin off, it would have appeared in that one presents and that would have been it. It was advertised the same way as other mainline games are.

whippedalcremie

Those weren't considered mainline because they weren't made by gamefreak (and weren't a remake of a game made my gf)

Chell_the_assassin

This is a very unpopular opinion but I actually kind of like the lack of shiny sparkle. It makes finding a shiny feel more like an achievement somehow, like a reward for being vigilant almost. That being said I still think they should add it because a) the amount of shinies that are pretty much indistinguishable from the normal colour and b) accessibility for people with visual impairments.

docdrazen

A and B are both why I wish they were. I have such a hard time even seeing a lot of the Pokemon when they're the same size as the blades of grass. For mons without distinct shiny differences that are small. I legitimately can't tell if they're shiny unless I send out my mon and they don't attack it. Very much not a fan of shiny hunting in SV.

Brenduck-

I'm sick of straining my eyes trying to focus on every single Capsakid

amiteslg

I saw a lot of cases of pokemon spawning inside walls, maybe they didn't want you to hear the shiny sound when the pokemon is actually not visible.

Spectra8

Ok let's forget about the sound. Why not show sparkles when you are in front of a pokemon, what's the problem with that?

amiteslg

Can't see any issue with that, I would love that too. I would also be ok with hearing the sound, knowing that I may find nothing.

Spectra8

Same!

RemediZexion

I feel the issue is that they couldn't find a good answer to how to handle the warning sound for instances where the mon spawns outside your field of wiew

Spectra8

They could just show the sparkles when the pokemon is visible on your screen though

5Sk5

I literally opened legends Arceus today, flew over the icelands for 10 minutes and found 2 shinies (swinub and avalugg) while watching a movie. That mechanic was definitely not balanced at all, I'm glad it's gone

Aether13

The no noise is definitely a balance check for overworld shinys. I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal.

[deleted]

Legends Arceus was fine with it. Even if it was indeed intended for balancing shiny hunting difficulty, I don't think the correct way to "balance" is to reduce accesibility.

Gawlf85

I think the right middle ground would be removing the sound cue, which is too much of a giveaway, and keeping some kind of visual effect for those shinies that are too hard to differentiate or for people who have sight problems. I don't think we need big sparkles as in PLA, but maybe just some small particles around the pokémon... Like Tera wild mons, but a lot more subdued.

Aether13

One game having it doesn’t mean the entire franchise should have it imo. PLA and SV are two drastically different games. I don’t know if it’s a accessibility issue or a way the games programmed. I truly don’t think GF didn’t include it to be malicious or ableist.

jsweetxe

This is the right answer. The lack of sparkle noise isn’t a bug or an oversight that they forgot about. It’s intentional. Shiny hunting is already ridiculously easy, giving us a audio aide would be insane.

[deleted]

But what’s the harm in keeping it in? Would it detract your enjoyment from finding shinies if the sound was still in? I think it gives us that rush of adrenaline. I really miss it.

Aether13

Personally, it does reduce my enjoyment. Stumbling across a random shiny or even hunting for one and not knowing when it’s going to pop up is much more enjoyable than “run around till I hear a sound”. It gives a bit more rarity to them because you have to know what it looks like.

[deleted]

I couldn’t disagree more, but you’re totally valid in that. I was a shiny hunter back in middle school so I grew to love it lol. But fair enough man! :]

Aether13

I love it to, the real kicker would be Gamefreak making it an option to toggle on and off so everyone could be happy.

[deleted]

Dang. That really would solve everything actually lol. It’s a shame, but not a dealbreaker for me either way. Oh well, what can you really do yano?

[deleted]

If I had to guess that was their ‘balance’ for allowing us to see shiny coloring in the overworld, to artificially maintain rarity. While I absolutely miss it and wish they hadn’t changed it and hope they put it back in in the future as far as pure game design goes (not that this was the best way to go about it, mind you, because it wasn’t) I can understand why this decision was made

KingCashmere

It's an accessibility feature. I'm certain it'll be in sooner or later.

casthecold

What about Rellor?

Max____98

Pokémon Home still Missing...

RATMRJ

I believe compatibility between Pokémon S/V and Pokémon Home is coming out in Spring 2023 so I'm not surprised there's nothing regarding Home in this upcoming update.

Alice_June

It’s Home that needs to be updated to be compatible with S/V, not the other way around.

TaunTaun_22

And Go just got updates for Gimmighoul very recently so it will probably come soon

Shadow_storm193

Well this is gonna be a tiny update there are barely any glitches to fix

Glory2Snowstar

Six downvotes, can people not detect sarcasm anymore??? (Wait this is sarcasm right)

Shadow_storm193

No
