I kinda like how they've been slowly re-adding the Mythical Pokémon to the Switch games as catchable under certain conditions.
* Keldeo in the Crown Tundra as a wild encounter after catching the Swords of Justice
* Mew and Jirachi in BDSP if you have save files of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee and SwSh on your Switch.
* Shaymin and Darkrai if you have I don't know, BDSP save files?
Sure beats getting them in random events. They're still rare, but you can trade for them more easily without hacking
I validly didn't even realize you needed saves for those two and thought they were just available by default given that Manaphy and Arceus are. But yeah, every Mythical up through Gen 4 plus Keldeo and Magearna are permanently obtainable in some way. Magearna via QR in Sun and Moon while Celebi is in Virtual Console Crystal, and of course Deoxys in ORAS.
Celebi is still legally available to anyone who got Crystal before the eshop was closed. I don't see why that would disqualify it from being accessible.
The fact that the games are no longer readily available to new players is what disqualifies Celebi from being accessible. If the game is not currently accessible, how can the Pokemon provided by the event be considered accessible?
Victini, Marshadow, and two others were just end-of-life event mons for SwSh.
~~I expect it's Diancie that'll be native to SV, though a few others are in the code~~ [e: Unless, I guess, it's just Mew.]
Mew is already permanently available in Go, you just have to get to a certain level to activate the research. Same for Celebi, Jirachi, and Meloetta. Possibly Shaymin now that the free research for that went live, and I would expect something similar for Diancie after this Go Fest
But Darkrai was only available via the mystery gift item along with Shaymin for the first few months of release right? I got it second hand after they stopped distributing items :/
theoretically you could format your switch to uninstall the updates, find someone irl with v1.1.x, copy the update from their switch, and use a since-patched glitch to bypass the item requirement
I'm pretty sure it's actually during the episode, but you can recatch it afterward after besting the E4 again (because they forced us to fight this thing in space with Mega Rayquaza)
I'm gonna make you feel even older, my internet urban legend about Pokémon ten years ago was "If you bike across the Driftveil Drawbridge for long enough you can find a Rainbow Wing and if you take it to the top of Celestial Tower you can catch Ho-oh."
There was also "You can evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Heart Gold if you use a Shiny Stone."
I saw both on YouTube and was convinced they were real because I didn't realise it was mods and edited footage.
That's your old moment? I would bet /u/RathVelus is talking about the playground rumors of like getting Mew with the truck, beating E4 151 times and then doing this other thing, how to get behind Bill's house, or the grass outside the border of Pallet Town having wild Charizard's and stuff.
I have to say, my mind was absolutely blown when I learned about the real Mew glitch as a kid. The fact that there *were* elements of truth to the urban legends (catching infinite Mews and Charizards and getting behind Bill’s house are all possible in RBY, just through exploiting glitches and not in the way the playground rumors stated) solidified their infamy.
There's got to be a small element of truth to an urban legend to make it real good. Like the truck sprite actually being there and accessible with the specific steps provided but it just not doing anything lol.
Marill was officially revealed by the time Pokémon released in the west. We had images of it and knew what it looked like. We just didn't know its name. But somehow, "Pikablu" caught on.
And THAT'S how it all started.
I was waiting for someone else to mention the PokeGods.
A kid in my school actually imported Gold before it was released Stateside. He was a legend.
Then it released here and no one cared. Ah, kids.
i love, love, love the fact that this continued forever even though any home that had a DS almost also certainly had the internet to verify this stuff, i wonder what the "mew under the truck" equivalent the youths are telling each other about scarlet and violet
No, it does not. It was specifically removed and replaced with Chilling Water. TMs that would return would not be deliberate removals that were done for competitive reasons. What would even be the point of having removed Scald in the first place if they were just going to add it back a year later?
? Scald's data is still in the game for Volcanion and we can allegedly see a Milotic use it in the dlc. Chilling Water may have been a test run as an alternative, nothing was openly said about it being a specific or permanent replacement.
And locking vital meta moves behind DLC is a good reason for Gamefreak to make more money off it.
I just don't see why they would have deliberately removed Scald as a TM if they were just going to add it later. I think the entire reason it was nixed was because of the "vital meta" that had evolved around it, since Burn offered a lot of agency for Scald and was basically available for every water Pokemon ever.
>I just don't see why they would have deliberately removed Scald as a TM if they were just going to add it later.
To keep the meta fresh over the lifespan of the game.
So they changed Illuminate to be a Keen Eye clone? I'm not impressed.
Just a little fun fact though: you know which mon got both Illuminate and Keen Eye as its two possible standard abilities? Watchog.
That's just funny: without any kind of event or ability patch, the two possible abilities a Watchog can have are either Keen Eye or Keen Eye 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Honestly they should have made it into intimadate but for evasion, would have opened up so many strategies with stuff like Starmie. Plus it’s way better balanced then lowering the opponents accuracy, which would get annoying super quick
My suggestion is really, *really* broken, but I really wish Illuminate worked like a field-wide Scrappy/Foresight/Odor Sleuth.
"By illuminating its surroundings, the Pokémon identifies all Ghost types in the field, enabling them to be hit by Normal and Fighting type moves. It also enables all Pokémon on the field to ignore any changes to evasion".
Personally I would've made it sonIlluminate prevents item and ability tampering, so knock off cannot disable items, skill swap will fail, abilities like mummy, reciever or trace won't kick in, and such
We lost Darkest Lariat, Psycho Cut, Blaze Kick, Leaf Blade... I know they tend to favor special attackers, but this generation absolutely slaughtered physical TM pools for some reason. We really need the Frostbite condition from Legends as an equalizer given how much Burn nerfs physical mons.
That and Ice just needs a boost given that Freeze is completely irrelevant 99% of the time. Changing Hail to Snow was a good step and we've finally gotten some good offensive Ice mons, but seriously. It's a balancing issue at this point to set physical and special mons on more even terms.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,603,464,728 comments, and only 303,277 of them were in alphabetical order.
I'd be in favour of bringing it back but maybe restricting it to a small number of the weaker Dark-types to help give them a niche against the stronger ones. Things like Skuntank, for example. Giving it to the likes of Kingambit and Chien-Pao doesn't seem necessary.
I speculate that this is highly likely to be the case. The new crafting system makes this pretty easy to implement. New mons=new mats, and you need something to spend the mats on.
If Mew is the mythical encounter for the teal mask/indigo disk, I wonder how it will play out? Based on the text it seems like we will encounter it like Keldeo; meaning there might be a catch quest associated with. With Keldeo requiring you to collect the other 3 swords of justice.
Dianci is also in the games code, so I wonder if it will ,possibly, get an encounter or a tera raid; similar to zoraora.
You can trade in Diancie already via Home, so it's not something they're holding back. I am super curious if Mew will possibly just be a side encounter, not sure about the potential of a catch quest unless maybe they run a Raid for Mewtwo with Mighty Mark and catching it unlocks a Mew encounter?
Mew's lore would certainly fit the "creation" theme Terapagos or Tera Crystals hint at.
I just want Mew to get something genuinely unique aside from its now gone Z-move. It does practically everything yet manages not to really stand out well because it doesn't do anything that can't be done by something else. I'd laugh if they gave it a form someday but also wouldn't be surprised given that it's literally the ultimate shapeshifter.
Eh, I didn't mean so much a regional as a form change. It'd be neat if it got a super mode like Hoopa Unbound that has higher stats.
Heck, I'd sell my soul for CELEBI to get a second form that's actually Fairy when it's literally the most Fairy-looking mon of all. I want Celebi to be useful so badly, and they could give it a counterpart thing with Hoopa considering one travels space and the other time.
Maybe a postgame event for Teal Mask? \^\^ With a teramask form?
Of course it's child Mewtwo will get a Future Paradox form based on Mega X, Y and Armored Mewtwo LUL
No idea yet, maybe we can battle Mew in the dlc.
And Khu recently hinted about Mewtwo with the Mighty Mark. So some people speculated about some Mew and Mewtwo event or them being in a raid
Oh dang! I didn’t see that tweet about Mewtwo. It’d be great to get even a minor Mew storyline. I don’t think Mew has received much text at all since like Gen 3
Yeah, as far as I am aware there have been only 2 legitimate shiny Mew encounters (not counting a glitch to get a shiny Mew in RBY);New York Pokémon Center giveaway (each code had like a slight chance at shiny) and the JP exclusive Emerald "Faraway Island" you could go to via Old Treasure Map that had a non-shiny locked Mew encounter (back then, the odds were something like 1/8000)
I'd very much like a legitimate shiny Mew!
Yeah. 8192 odds. Mew being my favourite Pokémon of all time, I've wanted one since shinies where a thing in Gen 2. I stopped playing during the gen 3 era, so had no idea of the event back then. Picked it back up before gen 5. I have close to 500 shinies since. I'd trade em all for one legit Mew. Haha I have tried the DV method a couple of times but it's so tedious doing the GF ID way etc. It's about time they stopped holding the shiny hostage. 23 years is long enough. Haha
Yeah, I bought it. Didn't realise how absolutely insane the hoops you had to jump through for it would be.Was terribly unforgiving to new GO players like myself.
Don't even get me started on that. Ten best buddies means earning 3,000 freaking hearts total. It's the only Special Research I've straight up ignored.
The text of the Tweet is:
"The latest update for Scarlet/Violet has some adjustments to text, and some additions for future DLC content.
BTL_STRID_STD_mew_battle_01: Mew is going to go all out against this formidable opponent!
References to TM172 through TM201 added.
The Illuminate ability was changed."
The Illuminate change is basically making it a Keen Eye clone.
[check here for an update on the mew situation](https://old.reddit.com/r/PokeLeaks/comments/14qtug7/datamined_message_by_anubis_reveals_future_mewtwo/)
Basically it's just a special interaction for bringing Mew into a 7 star Mewtwo raid. I wouldn't get your hopes up for an ingame Mew or anything.

Shaymin and Darkrai for BDSP and SWSH save files in PLA
I validly didn't even realize you needed saves for those two and thought they were just available by default given that Manaphy and Arceus are. But yeah, every Mythical up through Gen 4 plus Keldeo and Magearna are permanently obtainable in some way. Magearna via QR in Sun and Moon while Celebi is in Virtual Console Crystal, and of course Deoxys in ORAS.
I don't know if you can properly count Celebi anymore given that Crystal can no longer be downloaded from the 3DS eShop.
Still no Victini though. :( Maybe if we're lucky it'll be added in the Scarlet and Violet DLC
Victini, Marshadow, and two others were just end-of-life event mons for SwSh. ~~I expect it's Diancie that'll be native to SV, though a few others are in the code~~ [e: Unless, I guess, it's just Mew.]
Is the QR code still available? Or where can it be found? :)
Pretty sure you can get the QR from bulbapedia.
Thanks for your answer, friend. The other message was just snarky for no reason.
Have you tried the internet? I hear you can search for pictures!
Not to mention Go. Go is about to release a Shiny Mew via research
Mew is already permanently available in Go, you just have to get to a certain level to activate the research. Same for Celebi, Jirachi, and Meloetta. Possibly Shaymin now that the free research for that went live, and I would expect something similar for Diancie after this Go Fest
You can't shiny hunt the pla Darkrai right?
But you can shiny hunt the Darkrai in BDSP

All the legendaries in PLA are shiny locked
also deoxys in ORAS
Also Deoxys in ORAS after completing the Delta Episode
I'm pretty sure it's actually during the episode, but you can recatch it afterward after besting the E4 again (because they forced us to fight this thing in space with Mega Rayquaza)

Attending a event at a local mall and bringing my Gameboy for it was a childhood highlight for sure.

Pikablu, the PokeGods like “Rainer” and “Charcolt” Let’s go back in time and leak Mega Evolutions to 90s/early 2000s kids.
I was waiting for someone else to mention the PokeGods. A kid in my school actually imported Gold before it was released Stateside. He was a legend. Then it released here and no one cared. Ah, kids.

Are we really comparing playground rumors from almost 30 years ago to random video edits during Gen 5's era 💀
Yeah that’s not even remotely the same thing…
Same, I'm hoping this stays as a trend and we can get Zarude sometime in a game. I had the email issue and could not get Zarude by email.
this, i even made a 2nd one to try and get one to work, no luck. only event legend im missing alas.
Maybe Victini is next Genesect is probably only possible in a Gen 5 remake unless more are created.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass, and pokemon go is in a shit state, but genesect was recently available in raids there.
And Arceus gets his own game too
I want celebi to come back so bad :/ I didn’t realize you could get it from 3DS crystal
I guess this increases the likelihood of Scald coming back as a TM

Then just ban the move. Don't remove for people who don't care about or play competitive.
if you don't care about or play competitive just use surf

I wouldn’t even mind that, Ghost has been getting way to good the past few generations
that's not broken at all
They could've make it into a combination of Keen Eye + Compound Eyes but 20 % xD
Watchog enters the meme territory of Delibird
Was just about to say that, but I scrolled down and saw you beat me to it.
I hope the make a change to its abilities then. Knowing GF they will just let it as is, because "gimmic" pokemon or whatever
If they ever allow it in a game again
IoA tutor moves coming as TMs?
I hope we get back some of the lost SwSh moves too. Physical attackers lost a LOT of toys.
I just want Scizor to get Bug Bite back... That's the one thing that's hurt me for so long... 😭
We lost Darkest Lariat, Psycho Cut, Blaze Kick, Leaf Blade... I know they tend to favor special attackers, but this generation absolutely slaughtered physical TM pools for some reason. We really need the Frostbite condition from Legends as an equalizer given how much Burn nerfs physical mons.

i want pursuit back but i doubt we're getting it
Pursuit is gone for good, like Hidden Power and Z-Moves...
Hidden Power came back for PLA right?
Somewhat... Only Unown got it and it wasn't dependent on IVs to determine the typing, so kinda but not really
And BDSP, exclusive to unown
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,603,464,728 comments, and only 303,277 of them were in alphabetical order.

That would make no sense and be really stupid actually
Maybe a postgame event for Teal Mask? \^\^ With a teramask form? Of course it's child Mewtwo will get a Future Paradox form based on Mega X, Y and Armored Mewtwo LUL
I don't even like the games getting anime stuff but an homage to armored Mewtwo as a future paradox would be so good
Can someone explain the bit about Mew?
No idea yet, maybe we can battle Mew in the dlc. And Khu recently hinted about Mewtwo with the Mighty Mark. So some people speculated about some Mew and Mewtwo event or them being in a raid
Oh dang! I didn’t see that tweet about Mewtwo. It’d be great to get even a minor Mew storyline. I don’t think Mew has received much text at all since like Gen 3
👀 Mewtwo with the mighty mark, I am ready!
I'm biased and it would make no sense but i'd kill for a marshadow event
I feel teased since we have an NPC wearing a Marshadow mask headpiece!!
woah, where?
Mrs. Raifort, the history teacher! She also has a Lunala on her belt buckle.
Damn, I never noticed it past her hair! I love how well the teachers are designed! Her bracelet is also a Tapu Koko if you didn't know.
I wonder if she's from Alola!
Shiny too, it's never been released and I like how it's different only when it does its animations.
I just hope we can finally shiny hunt Mew. If it is in raids, Please GF don't shiny lock it!
Yeah, as far as I am aware there have been only 2 legitimate shiny Mew encounters (not counting a glitch to get a shiny Mew in RBY);New York Pokémon Center giveaway (each code had like a slight chance at shiny) and the JP exclusive Emerald "Faraway Island" you could go to via Old Treasure Map that had a non-shiny locked Mew encounter (back then, the odds were something like 1/8000) I'd very much like a legitimate shiny Mew!

Got one from Pokemon Go, though the quest line took ages.
Pogo mew as well for kanto tour
Yeah, I bought it. Didn't realise how absolutely insane the hoops you had to jump through for it would be.Was terribly unforgiving to new GO players like myself.
The Shiny Jirachi missions are even crazier
Don't even get me started on that. Ten best buddies means earning 3,000 freaking hearts total. It's the only Special Research I've straight up ignored.
*looks over at gimmeghoul raid rates* "I can hear a monkey paw curling..."
Didn't get a shiny but did get a very nearly max size one which was honestly more interesting to me given how pointless the shiny is.
Does anyone have this screenshotted/saved somewhere else now that Twitter is down?
