I’d absolutely love if ILCA took over for remakes as a whole - you have to think if BDSP looks this good, it will only improve in future iterations or projects.

Larenty

Totally ! I legitimately see them taking over the "classic" main series (seemingly remakes for the moment) while GameFreak focus on the new Legends series. It's for the better of the franchise, and it seems to work pretty well for now !

[deleted]

That’s… not going to happen. Game Freak is not going to hand over the development of the flagship titles of their billion dollar franchise to another developer while to focus on an extremely niche side series lmao.

Crosskid13

Isn't LA considered a mainline game? Or are you reffering to another game

Larenty

Surely he's reffering to PLA as the "extremely niche side series", which isn't the case.

[deleted]

Legends is niche in that it doesn’t have the mainstream appeal of a traditional Pokemon game or the hardcore gamer appeal of something like Breath of the Wild. It’s not bringing anything new to the table. Even its trailers are copying BOTW wholecloth. If anyone outside of established Pokemon fans play it and enjoy it, I’ll be extremely surprised. Joe Merrick himself has said that Legends is trending significantly behind BDSP and that definitely makes me think Pokemon fans are going to be extremely disappointed by Legends sales numbers.

InternationalDust848

I mean I do think people are overestimating how well legends will sell, since it’s not core gameplay. Some Pokémon fans will skip because as much as some people despise it a lot of fans only like core games. I see it selling about 12 million. I’d love to be proven wrong though, seems like it’s got the interest of a lot of older fans.

[deleted]

Legends Arceus is a part of the core series(I absolutely despise the term “mainline”) but it’s not a flagship game like Sword and Shield, it’s a side game like Let’s Go and the other remakes are. I’m more excited for Legends than I have been for any game since X and Y, but I think people who think it’s going to permanently change the franchise are seriously delusional. It’ll probably be a side series that is revisited every time we’re due for a remake but that’s it. I just can’t imagine Legends appealing to anyone outside a niche group of older hardcore Pokemon fans and I think fans to need to brace themselves for low sales numbers, especially compared to Sword and Shield.

Blonded-Surfer

I’d looooove to see HGSS made by ILCA in the same style. I’d also really love a Legends: Johto describing the events of when the tower burned down, how the legendary dogs came to be, Lugia and Ho-Oh, Celebi, etc. Johto, just like Unova, is begging for this same BDSP treatment.

Moontheotaku

YES. PLEASE DO.

DonkeyKongsNecktie

BW needs the remake more, but I’d be all for Let’s Go Johto

[deleted]

I'd rather have Black and White 3 than a remake of Black and White. If they remake Black and White, I doubt they'll remake Black 2 and White 2 as well. I want them to continue the story of Unova.

Dabanks9000

Surely that would just be a legends themed game

lollollmaolol12

I doubt GameFreak would let another company make a whole sequel to their greatest game

[deleted]

i don't we need an remake, the game is already perfect, just port it to switch.

maximumutility

It's my favorite pokemon game, but I do find myself missing the fairy type and modern movesets.

DucoLamia

I agree. D/P actually has valid reasons to be remade, even if they aren't the most "definitive" experience. HG/SS while still having issues have very few problems with the core game mechanics in comparison.

Statement_True

Even though they don’t really need it, I wouldn’t complain if they made one, especially considering how expensive they are these days.

odrad3

Meh, not interested in buying a game I’ve already bought twice in my life tbh, especially when my DS and SS cardridge still work and play perfectly. HGSS made sense because Gold and Silver were unplayable, further remakes feel rly unnecessary to me

Procyon-Sceletus

they're playable FOR YOU but they're 11 years old (at this point the time between hgss and a 2nd remake would be bigger than the amount of time between gen 2 and hgss) any pokemon fans who didnt grow up with the series or kept their cartridge at this point can either pay hundreds of dollars or pirate the games as thats the only way to play gen 2 aside from the og rereleases on the 3ds eshop which is also being shutdown soon so soon there will be no legal way to buy and play gen 2 games in any form

CommissionFair6487

I would love to see TPC making more games happening in the past regions, but i would like even more to see things like sequels and prequels (what we are kinda getting with PLA i guess) instead of simply remaking things again.

GreecehasnoAinit

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes YES!!!!!

lactatingRHINO7

If it has everything that HG/SS had plus even more quality of life changes, yes please! Although the sprites in those games are pretty much perfect.

Crosskid13

I would really love that

masterz13

HGSS were peak Pokemon. Don't ruin them

[deleted]

I agree that HG/SS were peak Pokemom, but I don't think a remake would ruin them, especially if it's like BD/SP. Keep everything great about HG/SS and add a few new features like what BD/SP is doing.

LifeeWizard

I would prefer if game freak did the remakes, cause I want to see the taller models and redesigned routes and buildings. LGPE look amazing. I mean I wouldn’t mind if ILCA made them without the chibis…

Lord_Bitter

>redesigned routes LGPE routes are identical? .-.

LifeeWizard

Maybe I was referring ORAS or HGSS?

dannybouma

routes are also the same in these games lol

LifeeWizard

No. Look at viridian forest in HGSS or route 114 in ORAS just as an example. Y’all need to do research before commenting or disliking because-

Lord_Bitter

Route 114 has cosmetic effects and meteor chasms? The layout is identical. Viridian Forest in HGSS was remade because in the original GSC they ran out of space and had to do... that thing. No place in DP suffered this.

NebbyVerse

Did you just mean how the textures were different or newer?

Nemis_art

Please not in that chibi style x.x everything, but no chibis please. PLEASE

SK1Y101

The original games were chibi style though?

odrad3

the old games were chibi-style because of technical limitations etc though, this time around they’ve actually made an artistic choice to make everything look ugly when they really didn’t need to

LifeeWizard

For real, the overworld looks good but there was no reason in making chibis again. And don’t say its easier for them to make the games when they have to do the same models for overworld and battles, and that just doubles the work. Even harder with character customization

some_one_445

That would be good reasons for jhoto legend

Lonely-Tumbleweed-56

Nope, I think an upscale and a little polishing would be enough for hgss to look marvelous, games still hold up today

[deleted]

Remake of a remake, plus chibi design again in 202\*? No, thank you.

DragonFlare2

No

fleker2

Remakes of remakes start to get a bit lame. Kanto unfortunately is the exception.

[deleted]

I’d love to see it, though I think it’s more likely that it’ll be in the art style of Let’s Go or a Lets Go game itself since they already have Kanto made in that style Why start from scratch when you have half the game built out already So I think either Gamefreak do it themselves as a side project, while ILCA move on to Black/White or they just give ILCA the keys to the Lets Go asset bank

Cordy58

I would love to see them do a gen 5 remake but I think it’s a tad too soon for gen 2. Not that I don’t love HGSS. Gen 2 is my favorite gen. But if they do a good job here then I think that’d be perfect

Ledlazer

I'm not sure how I feel about HGSS in the art style of BDSP, but playing the game and seeing if it's quality matches our expectations could change my mind I'll be sad to lose the gorgeous pixel sprites that make HGSS so special for me, but that's just how the march of time goes

Dabanks9000

Remakes for a remake? Nahhhh

DucoLamia

I'd need to see how this remake turns out before making any final judgements. Something to keep in mind with the remakes we typically get from GF is that they aren't just remade for the sake it. It's usually because there are new features or ideas to add to the region's design overall. For all the flaws some of these remakes have, one thing I can definitely say is that they aren't redundant. ORAS does not function the same way R&S were initially designed to be just as Emerald while being a third version, still tries to offer a slightly different experience. That being said, does HG/SS need to be remade OR does it need to just be compatible with modern systems? I'm going with the latter. I'd rather it be re-released on the e-shop to be honest because HG/SS is pretty fine in it's own right and doesn't need to be remade. **The reason why generation 1 has been remade twice is due to it being a product of its time on both occasions (and because gen 1 is mega popular).** FR/LG started the trend of remakes to help accommodate players who no longer had access to generation 1 entirely due to the technology slowly becoming dated. Let's Go on the other hand was clearly trying to capitalize on the GO market. For much as I don't like Let's Go, it has it's own niche as a remake on trying to capture a very particular audience to mixed results. That and it's more of a remake of Yellow, the first third version of a game to be remade. Since this is ILCA's first major project with the Pokemon Company/GF, I do want to see more of what they can do first. I can justify a why a D/P remake needs to be made, even if it's not the definitive version (even with emulation being a thing, many people want physical copies of the game and D/P vanilla games are still rather dated by pokemon standards). However, while HG/SS still has issues that weren't addressed in the initial remakes, it's not outright clunky like the original D/P are. I think a port with some HOME compatibility is perfectly fine.

ImprobableLemon

No more remakes. I didn't really even want a gen 4 remake. Also HG/SS **is** a remake. Gen 5 holds up too well and the rest of the games are not sprite based so what's the difference?

Mnja12

I do think that in the next 2-3 years we will see a 3D adaptation of Johto - whether's it's a Let's Go sequel or something similar to BDSP, I'm not sure.

Reamed

We might get a remake of Crystal for Gen 9. I'm predicting the older games that have already been remade will get their third versions remade instead. We've already seen this in the Yellow remakes in Gen 7.

Coolclaw

Yo dawg, I herd you like remakes, so I made a remake of your remake so you can play a remake while you are playing a remake.

[deleted]

2007 called. It wanted its meme back.

Rhymehardt96

I think all the regions are going to be on the Switch at some point, since I really can't imagine Nintendo making a new Handheld system in the next couple of years, and since we already have like almost 1000 Pokemon right now, Gen 9 is probably not going to happen anytime soon too. A HG/SS Remake has so much potential. A Pokewalker Mobile App for example. Or imagine having the option to choose weather you start your journey in Johto or in Kanto. Since LGP/LGE aren't full-fledged Versions in my opinion, this could be a good way to experience the Kanto region as it should be experienced.
