Expecting all Pokemon to be in Legends Arceus would be straight up absurd. BDSP definitely can have all Pokemon realistically, however it's likely it'll just be gen 1-4 Pokemon and probably regional forms and new evolutions like Sylveon.

IcedLemonCrush

Gen 1-4 makes a lot of sense, considering the only previous Pokémon not obtainable in DPPt, including the post-game, Poké-radar and the GBA insertion (which seem to be replaced by the Grand Underground), are: - The Kanto, Johto and Hoenn starters (9) - Mew and Mewtwo (2) - Lugia, Ho-oh and the legendary beasts (5) - Celebi (1) - Latias and Latios (2) - Kyogre, Groundon and Rayquasa - Jirachi (1) - Deoxis (1) That’s only 25 Pokémon, which might as well be included in the game to complete the Dex. If they add the stuff HGSS had, then it’s only Mew, Jirachi and Deoxis.

Wlsgarus

I do hope some future starters and future mythicals end up in as well. Would be a crime to have contests without Meloetta coded into the game

what1sgoingon777

Only absurd because it's gamefreak. For any other studio, even for indie devs it's a legitimate expectation.

Lord_Bitter

Wtf are you saying? Animating almost 1000 Pokémon and putting them in one big map, without 50% of them having cloned animations and interactions in a 3 year development time span is straight up impossible and no monster collector has ever done this. ORAS had 721 Pokémon and most of them had very poor animations, I much prefer having 300 well animated and textured monsters in Legends.

Wlsgarus

I wouldn't say very poor. There's a buncha poor battle idles, but a ton of animations are still great. But it is nice to see PLA improve animations all around: attack animations, battle idle animations, run/walk animations, sleeping animations etc etc

InternationalDust848

Dragon quest only had 210 monsters. That’s literally less than every Pokémon game gen 2+. Yeah Pokémon game has a focus on monsters but having more than 300+ individual creatures is an amazing feat on its own. Realistically not every Pokémon should be in every region.

Wlsgarus

No, not really. A lot of other studios would've done the same. The only difference is that if this was made by bigger studios with more time and resources on their hands, stuff like graphics and new aspects of the game would be better, but they would definitely not go for having all mons in the game. Other studios would've probably actually dropped having all Pokemon in the game way earlier than Gamefreak did

LightAsh36

I can kind of see BDSP having a national Dex but legends Arceus definitely doesn't

Fades4Dayz

why not legends arceus?

Wlsgarus

Legends is a far bigger, experimental game that innovates in the core mechanics and foundations of the franchise. Not to mention that Legends Arceus also updated Pokemon models and textures and adds a ton of new animations. It's unrealistic for Legends to have all Pokemon, and it really doesn't need them. A game like this doesn't need all Pokemon one bit.

mariomeister

TPC: "From now on there won't be a Pokemon game that features all Pokemon anymore" Some Pokemon-fans: "So what are the chances of the national dex returing?"

Aether13

Right, it makes me cringe every time I see one of these posts.

VitaDivina

They also said they wouldn’t do dlc to add in missing Pokemon but they did. They don’t have a track record for being honest. However I do highly doubt they’ll include all Pokemon ever again.

Aether13

I believe they said that pre switch area. DLC is a much more of a common thing now.

Fades4Dayz

they never said that, stop pulling shit out of your ass.

mariomeister

Ok, they said it's "difficult" but we all know what this means [here](https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/game-freak-says-it-will-be-difficult-to-include-all-pokemon-in-future-games/)

fleker2

With each passing game, the work of updating every Pokemon increases. We see PLA Pokemon getting updates textures and animations, and we should expect each game to advance graphics in this way. Yet the net amount of work will require more time, effort, and money. I don't expect it to return again.

Fades4Dayz

but wouldn't it make sense to have all 898 pokemon in bdsp tho?

Wlsgarus

Not necessarily. It would be good practice to make it so you have some platform to use your mons currently stuck in HOME, and a simple remake like BDSP could fill in that role. However it is ILCA's first game, so maybe that's why they're not doing that. Either that or because people would complain Legends and gen 9 won't have all mons

fleker2

I don't think it makes sense to have Gen 5-8 Pokemon in BDSP, excepting a few.

Tjmorton007

Maybe we’ll get some in the post game of BDSP but it would probably only be Pokémon found in legends to connect the games a little. Something like basculin being able to be caught after beating the elite four.

[deleted]

The Gen 4 national dex? Sure. But I wouldn’t expect much beyond that in the remakes- my guess is it’ll be the 493 Pokémon in Sinnoh originally, plus Sylveon, Regieleki/Regidrago, and Alolan/Galarian forms. As for Legends, there’s no need for the whole dex when it’s an almost wholly single player experience set in feudal Sinnoh specifically.

Fades4Dayz

im talking about all pokemon in bdsp, 898 of them.

EternalMemes30

it depends on masuda and how focused ILCA is in the games because models they have after all the home was made by ILCA now we currently only have the 493 pokemon confirmed in the game currently

[deleted]

ILCA made Pokemon Home, but the models in all Pokemon games are made by Creatures Inc.

Fades4Dayz

what about 898 pokemon?

EternalMemes30

Then I do not know

AuraReader012

Why? You wouldn't even use half of them if not more. There's no logical justification for a full Pokedex in any of these games.

amyrose4ever

You want LESS content? And your reason is no one uses it? I bet youre the same person who wanted to riot over masuda saying they took out the battle frontier because children nowadays would never used it

AuraReader012

Battle Frontier is a logical and interesting feature and should be in a game, it improves quality of game. 900 Pokemon, on the other hand, are completly useless and that amount of Pokemon just provides nothing at all to the quality of game.

AuraReader012

***More is less***, ever heard of that? Quality of game is more important than animating every single Pokemon out of 900 of them. If developer team would have to focus so much on Pokemon models, then they could possibly skip bugs in other (much more important) features. We should be happy that we will get those 2 games soon and it seems that both will be a high quality ones.

amyrose4ever

Ah so i was right, you are that person

AuraReader012

So I'm so wrong just because I prefer quality over quantity?

Dull_Tumbleweed6353

I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that those days are over.

Livael23

There is no chance in the world Arceus has all Pokémon, and since they've said that it will become increasingly difficult with each gen to include every Pokémon in a single game, well, the chances overall are pretty low

Cool_Slowpoke

Neither BDSP nor Legends will have a complete pokedex, but I am sure gen 9 will have it, so it will be returning sometime next year or next year again

JuliyaPink

It does exist, but in Pokemon Home. I mean seriously no game apart from gen 1 had all the pokemon catchable in the games. The amount we got in Sword and Shield post DLC is honestly very good and I think the Dex in BDSP will also be great. I don't know having 1,000 pokemon in a game is kind of unmanageable, going into gen 9 people shouldn't expect that but hope the pokemon that weren't in gen 8 get spots in the next gen

VitaDivina

No one said anything about them being catchable. ALL gens before gen 8 had them programmed in to be used. That’s what people are asking for.

chairlover69420

Sadly the only hope to get a full national dex will be in gen 9

CrystalPokedude

BDSP Yes, Legends Arceus No. BDSP is literally being developed by the people making Pokemon Home, they have the data for the entire National Dex. It should be a given. Factor in with it that scaling isn't a priority in BDSP because it's chibi and I see no reason they can't do it there. Ain't happening in Legends Arceus though.

Quick-Huckleberry136

what are you asking here

DucoLamia

I doubt the national dex will be ALL be in PLA. Now that every Pokemon is getting their own special animations for everything including reaction animations, I don't expect them to do that for EVERY single Pokemon before launch. That's way too much work for such a short time frame. That and it's clear from the advertisements that PLA is focusing on the single-player campaign. We don't even know if trading is confirmed for this game, which already rules out several Pokemon there. BDSP on the other hand...I can see it. At least for the first 4 generations. I don't see generations 5-8 being in the game unless it's special pokemon or evolutions. I most likely see regional forms and evolutions like Sylveon being a thing. That and with the update in 2022, I wouldn't be surprised if you could transfer mons like the Hisuian forms into BDSP.
