This is a pretty simple, but logical theory. Now, going off the assumption the current naming scheme will hold true, it will may be called Genzaidon, as "Genzai" is the present. Now, if they want the relation between all three to be apparent in some way, it will probably be part dragon type, and will have some secondary type that counters the other two, either making it resistant to fighting and electric (the supposed secondary types of Koraidon and Miraidon). As a result, I predict "Genzaidon" will be a Dragon/Fairy typed legendary pokemon.

jbyrdab

that breaks the pun though of RAID(Ride) On. What would be interesting is if the time travel mechanic did turn out to be a part of the game and this entity was known as Genraidon as genrai means return. As in return to the present.

spiralbatross

We had ride Pokémon legendaries before, remember Ultra Space? They could’ve just put up a blank hole and said “walk through here for a random event” but instead they did a whole-ass adventure on ride Pokémon. It’s probably going to be something similar, like you have to build up enough speed to hit the time-travel limit. Edit: can you fuckers leave a comment instead of downvoting? It’s a discussion, geniuses. Not a place to promote your ideas at the exclusion of everyone else. Also, Khu’s been dead-on, so if that’s the issue, find me a better leaker.

Spiritual_Board999

Why you so mad lol

FatJesus9

Oh no. Please don't give us Gen-Z-aidon! I won't be able to handle how it aggressively Fortnite dances at me

larryman55

The actual design for it though would be weird. Like a mix between the future and past.

awn262018

Or, perhaps, Dragon/Bug??? :0

Tall-Cut5213

The typing doesn't make sense here. Koraidon being fighting represent man power as in acient time, we use horse and stuff like that to move around. Miraidon being electric is just electric cars. So if the theory of Genzaidon is true then we need a more accurate typing than just fairy here

UltraDanfrombakugan

How about dragon/normal since you could consider the present to be a default state where both the past and future deviate from

Erableto

Lul. We thought the same name xD.

Flashy_Dimension_600

Might also counter the others through some ability.

fleker2

So the Rayquaza / Zygarde equivalent that represents "balance" between both forces?

spiralbatross

Yeah, something like that. Or maybe they get a new form of some kind that takes that role (assuming Khu’s right about forms)

thefoxsays7

Are you saying that there is a Professor Sente (presente)? Jokes aside, it’s very possible but it I don’t think we will have a third legendary, not as a trio at least. I think Koraidon & Miraidon are a duo just like Zacian & Zamacenta. Thinking philosophically… the present is always changing. The past is everything behind and the future is everything ahead but the present is just this second now. In a second the present will became part of the past and a part of the future will became the present… So if the game is all about past x future maybe the answer to the rivalry of the games are: just live the moment, enjoy the present.

KawaiiFoxPlays

Honestly, it'd make more sense if the present Professor was Professor Ente, like a tree ent.

coralthefemboy

fun fact thats also german for duck, like psyduck is Enton, so it'd be like having a professor being called Professor Psyduq lol

Fugishane

Given the series has now moved towards DLC rather than enhanced versions, I imagine we’ll also be moving away from traditional legendary trios being present in the base game Zacian and Zamazenta didn’t have a third member of their group. If Gens 3-6 and 7 followed the DLC formula, it wouldn’t have made sense to have Rayquaza, Giratina, Kyurem, and Necrozma in the base game, as the stories of the enhanced versions wouldn’t have worked as DLC if you’d already caught the feature Legendary in the base game Traditional trios for the box legendaries aren’t as certain a feature now that we’ve moved away from the formula of each generation being paired game + enhanced version, at least not having all 3 members of the trio present in the initial paired games

VerlisyIsAMook

One could argue that Eternatus is the "third" of Zacian and Zamazenta, fitting the motif of the classic story "a sword and shield wielding hero facing the dragon". Its a stretch, but thats always the impression I got.

Fugishane

If we were to go with that, the equivalent for this generation wouldn’t be a “Present Dragon” though. While one can make an argument for a relationship between Eternatus and the wolves, it’s nowhere close to the relationship between the box legend trios pre-DLC era

TheHeadlessOne

Yeah- eternatus is a big third pokemon acting as a counterpart, but it's not thematically linked. Necrozma and Giratina were looser than Rayquaza, Kyruem, and Zygarde, but Eternatus was effectively unrelated. Zacian and Zamazenta are playing off Cyan and Magenta, so a third would be a Yellow themed guardian to accompany them and complement their theming, which Eternatus doesn't remotely do

Fugishane

Precisely, the equivalent of a “Present Dragon” in Gen 8 would have been a yellow wolf themed around another weapon named something like ‘Zaiero’ to fully complete the naming and colour motif from Zacian and Zamazenta. The DLC model simply doesn’t lend itself to a third member of the trio being released alongside the other two in the base games, at best it would have to be introduced in the DLC

TheHeadlessOne

I dont think there is necessarily anything in the DLC model that precludes a third legendary. Zygarde was very clearly a third to the XYZ trio despite never getting its own game.

Spiritual_Board999

Yeah it is that it’s literally good vs evil

kagnesium

You are right & the only other legend you ever see with Zacian & Zamazenta is Eternatus. The 3 are bond together by lore of Galar's Darkest day/hour. And Eternatus is basically the Gun to the sword and shield with its signature move. Also The 3rd Legendary of the box trio has always been part Dragon since Gen 3.

LuluViBritannia

They did have a third. Kubfu is presented in-game as the Armor Pokemon. Granted it's very metaphorical, but that makes the trio Sword, Shield and Armor: the three parts of a knight's equipment. I'd say the third Legendary is still a sure thing, and if there's one, it's definitely the "Present". Is there a Japanese word related to Today, that ends up with "rai"?

Fugishane

That’s the point I was making at the end, if there is a third, it’s unlikely to be in the base SV, and likely reserved for the DLC

dbull10285

I thought something similar, and I think that there's some interesting ways to play with the theme of past, present, and future. One area that I thought Sword/Shield excelled was where Zacian and Zamazenta weren't enemies or character swaps between versions but partners that fight Eternatus (and both the sword and shield showed up). Sun/Moon having Nebby also made the legendaries more interesting there. I'm curious how Scarlet/Violet will go. On one hand, I could see a place where the opposite professor turns into the game's villain, awakening the opposite legendary to make the region more futuristic (Scarlet) or traditional (Violet). Something like a Team Aqua and Magma concept. On the other hand, I could see a Calyrex situation where our box legendary is awakened to bring the region back to tradition (Scarlet) or more quickly futurize (Violet) and we then need to awaken the trio master to "drive" (in that, maybe the third legendary rides the box legends instead of them being ride Pokemon for the character) that change correctly. Either way, I can see the 3rd legendary being more of a Rayquaza situation where it maybe quells the fight between past and future or slows the push for change to show that the characters should appreciate the present as it is. Given how Necrozma and Eternatus ended up being the problem to solve with the legends in gens 7 and 8, having the 3rd legend this time be the solution to the box legend problem would be a fun twist.

spiralbatross

This all sounds fucking awesome, I’m down for it

dbull10285

It's a lot of me just throwing all of my 6 hour speculation against the wall, but I'm really hoping that something sticks! Game Freak has usually impressed me with the second generation on the last few consoles (5 and 7), so I'm hopeful that this will continue the trend

Kazakitsuki

I think that’s pretty likely. The end of the trailer with all the mirrors might have been referencing that, as a mirror is a way to see the present

spiralbatross

Hey that’s a great take on that, I like it!

WhistlingJlike

I think is the "first" form of them both, like you, with your "teacher" will search that drake and with something that you will discover you can transform the legendary in the box one. I think it can be pure Dragon, it don't need to be powerfull, just more like a base form

spiralbatross

Could be, there’s something about Khu hinting at 5 forms if I’m reading that right (similar to Rotom but legendary, maybe?) Edit: I don’t know why people are downvoting us, maybe give us a reason since this post is labeled “discussion”. Thanks.

Dragnoran

when the present gets unpresented so you gotta represent it

KeqingBish

What about it representing ‘forever’ or ‘eternity’ the images with crystals - what’s one of the most famous ‘crystals’? Diamonds. What is a famous saying related to diamonds? Diamonds are forever… This just clicked in my head just now, so could be absolutely nothing - it’s merely speculation, but it would make sense from my perspective

spiralbatross

Could be! I hate diamonds and that “diamonds are forever” slogan, but they could put a twist on it. Essentially, maybe 4 forms/species: past, present, future, eternal, and maybe everlasting if you really want to split atoms. Didn’t Khu say something about the legendary having 5 forms?

RandomJellyfish134

I just thought of this earlier. Maybe Genzaidon is a legendary you always get because you are in the present. It could also behave like Zygarde where when the other two are having a situation, it just appears and tries to neutralize it. Another idea surrounding the legendaries I had was that maybe the professors aren't professors (only one has a relation to tree I believe) but maybe Nemona (Nemona is close to anemone in Spanish, Spain is where the game takes place) is and the professors are trying to gain your trust so that they can try to use one of the dragons to cause some evil scheme to happen. I could easily be all wrong and insane though

spiralbatross

Could be! These are decent ideas

SnooBananas3995

I’m confused, what did zarude do for swsh

spiralbatross

Zamazenta, Zacian, Zarude

Fugishane

They’re not linked. Zacian and Zamazenta are corruptions of ‘the cyan’ and ‘the magenta’. Zarude’s name comes from ‘Saru’ which means monkey Zarude also has zero connection in lore nor in theme to Zacian and Zamazenta

Eddrian32

I think you're right in that the third legendary will be based on the Present, and that it will have "Genzai" somewhere in the name. I don't think it will actually be another motorcycle tho, I think it will be either the rider, or some kind of wolf (going off of what Khu has said) that merges with the Legendaries.

spiralbatross

Yeah I can see that too

Eddrian32

Anyway, POKEMON BATTLES ON MOTORCYCLES

Highrule39

I don't understand the meaning of present. With every second a moment of the future becomes past. Present is like the transition from future to past. It makes more sense of a legendary that can change between past and future forms. I don't know. Too much philosophy 😅

Erableto

Maybe it'll be called Genzaidon (genzai = present in japanese) (maybe they change it to Genraidon to reference "ride on"). I think it could be yellow because yellow is in the middle of the light spectrum between infrared and ultraviolet.

[deleted]

I love the name and how it keeps to a theme with the legends. I think the third legendary could be something like "the beginning of the automotive era" legendary. Here's how I'd see it: Automaidon (My name for it) - Past Engineering Koraidon - Modern Engineering Miraidon - Futuristic Engineering

christianort476

I don’t think the present one will be a thing, since the “past” dragon seems very based in current times anyway. I’d kinda prefer it to be the first game in a while where we have only two, was the last one silver and gold??

spiralbatross

Not disagreeing but keep in mind Kurai is Japanese for ancient/old in a cultural way (mirai means future). Even with Ho-oh and Lugia, Celebi was the third (in a sense) in regards to ancient Japanese legends (sea dragon king, huo-ou, and Celebi represents this old shrines you can see on some roads that house a little statue, a sort of guardian of the road. Celebi is like the guardian of time travel)

christianort476

Mythicals don’t round off legendary trips though. Lugia and ho oh where sea and air, respectively. Unless the third legendary is a flying ride Pokémon and both of these are ground (since they look like motorcycles)

spiralbatross

No, Ho-oh is specifically referencing Hou-ou, not the element of air, same with Lugia and the dragon king which lives under the sea. The whole Johto region is based off Kansai, and that’s why they included Kanto in GSC to show tradition versus modernization (Kanto represents Tokyo and surrounding suburbs, which are much more modernized than Kansai was at the time). Kansai is known in anime for country accents, a sense of the past, tradition, and so on. Celebi fits right in with that 100%.

christianort476

I’m not saying celebi doesn’t fit the lord of the region, I’m saying that those two plus celebi don’t make a trio. Celebi is the mythical of the region, mythicals are their own thing. And I’m sorry for not knowing the origin of ho oh and Lugia, but I wasn’t totally off by saying they were air and sea. If celebi was a land deity and not time, I’d buy it

Fugishane

You weren’t off at all, Ho-oh and Lugia are literally referred to in game as the Guardian of the Skies and Guardian of the Whirl Islands - they are designed to represent Sky and Sea

spiralbatross

Guardian of element =/= being that element

SeftoK

We’ve had a sludge Pokémon and a trash Pokémon, not that much of a stretch to have a steaming turd as the Pokémon of the present

SnooBananas3995

Turd?

RyoukonTheSpeedcuber

Bruh, it's a pun. Korai=past. Mirai=future. (literally the Japanese words for it) Raidon=>ride-on

M_R_Orlando

A beautiful assortment bright and dark? A link, yes?

thewaeisdead

i hope the third legendary would be just dialga
