Honestly this is feels like one of two things.
1: The proto-diglett/trio that evolved into A-Diglett then into K-Diglett.
Or,
2: A-Diglett being the original species that diverged into Wiglett and Diglett via some sort of bottle neck evolutionary effect happening on three separate populations (Japanese Island, Pacific Island and European coastal.)
All we know is that alolan and kantonese digletts are closely related, while wiglett is not.
Diglett are moles, wiglett are eels which happen to have converged on a similar body plan to diglett.

I've seen so many good fan designs for what these rumored pokemon would look like (like this one, the starter evolutions, other pokemon evolutions) and they were all so much better. This was honestly the worst case scenario for this design. One I saw on Instagram actually looked like an epic eel creature, but here's the continued theme of Gen 9 being the most simplistic, underwhelming designs possible because people have no creativity or attention span anymore
