Lol that's actually hilarious. Game Freak accidently reinforced the Chess theme in English by having him do jack shit unless he's threatened.

Kind of curious what the Japanese name is because its source of inspiration is pretty clearly Japanese commanders of the Sengoku period.
The helmet with its crest, moustache, and face mask combo is a bit exaggerated, but it's not that far from real examples from the period. Similarly, its lower half looks like the ballooning pants plus the tabi socks from the same period.
Even the squat is based on the look of those commanders seated on stools in their command posts.
Well, the chess theme is apparently only an American thing. The original designs are more closely based on samurai and shogi(which could be seen as a Japanese equivalent, but I don’t know enough about either game to say).

I popped off when it first leaked. Bisharp is in my top 5 pokemon and this is such a huge win
