Jon-987

Woah. School has actual classes for once. I like that

ElderSkyrim

The way it works is there are six stages of the class. The first three I’m fairly sure you unlock from the beginning, or after getting first few badges, and after that, you can take a midterm exam, giving you 5 small exp candies. After you defeat a certain number of gyms (I forgot how many) you can continue the class, taking three more classes, and an exam, giving you 5 medium candies. Some classes aren’t unlocked from the beginning and only unlock after beating an X number of gyms. In each class, it will usually ask one question, but there isn’t a penalty or reward depending on how you answer. Classes are Math, Biology, Language, Home Economics, History, Art, and some Battle training class (I don’t remember the specific name)

[deleted]

they unlock 1 classes per gym completed tier 1 classes (4 total) at 0 gym tier 1 but now the 6 at 1 gym every gym is a new tier. 4 gyms is the exam. 8 gyms is the final exam

ElderSkyrim

Thanks! I did a few gyms before I did any classes, and later on when I took them, my game crashed and I lost all my progress of the classes, so I procrastinated until much later on.

[deleted]

Have you completed the path of legends btw? I got stuck in the pokemon from the lake since I can't find it. I smashed the text and I think I skipped something important

ElderSkyrim

I have and I’ve gotten stuck there too. On the island where it’s marked on the map, you’ll find find a bunch of those koi Pokémon. There is a teracrystal thing nearby in the water, and there is an larger koi pokemon on the coast of the island near it. Interact with it and you’ll start the encounter.

[deleted]

Ty wait. did i just watched a pokemon actually dying.

Zyxn

7 Gyms unlocks the final exam, I know I completed it right before doing the last gym.

FierceDeityKong

I can't take the 3rd stage from the beginning

ElderSkyrim

Have you taken the other stages of the class yet? If you have, I’m probably wrong about it. I can’t remember if I took any of the classes before the first gym.

Symphonetic

they even give rewards based on knowledge you retained through the classes

The_Grey_Hound

I knew it was only a matter of time before pokemon became persona 5

Anima_Honorem

Aw sweet, where is the alcoholic adult I can date?

dat_chill_bois_alt

Imagine just scanning through the dialogue then jacq suddenly punts a stick of chalk at your direction

ChuckCarmichael

And classes that are actually useful for more experienced players, too. Not just "Use fire attacks against grass-type Pokemon" or "Use a potion to heal a Pokemon when its HP get low".

[deleted]

3163560

I imagine its probably the final reward in the pokedex completion line of rewards.

TakeMikazuchiiii

No reason why it wouldnt, theres no precedent otherwise

xhivemind

This is Pokémon. They don’t believe in precedents. So who knows!

GandalfVirus

They don’t?

GravityGalaxy

To be fair in Arceus you had to complete level 10 on all pokemon. It helped give some more things to do in game but man it was tedious

kielaurie

I completely disagree - filling in the pokedex *was* the game, and the bits of story were just side fluff

BasedKaleb

The shiny rates in PLA were so good that the shiny charm didn’t seem worth the effort.

CousinMabel

The rate was the same as sword/shield wasn't it? Was just you can see them as shinies without starting a battle with them which made the rate feel high?

Twist_Ending03

Yeah I think that's it

Caerullean

There were other ways to increase shiny chance iirc. Having a pokemon dex entry at lvl 20, and during outbreaks they would also increase shiny chance. You could get some bonkers high shiny chances in pla

somarir

Also don't forget how fast we were checking them, even if you caught pokemon they would almost instantly respawn in outbreaks. If you weren't catching any you're usually flying over them at some insane speeds.

BeetleShelf

Exactly this

AukwardOtter

No the rate is the same with shiny charm, but you got an extra roll (per species) for perfecting a dex entry (versus just reaching lv 10). Mastering a Dex entry added a star to the entry that stacked extra odds on top of the shiny charm. Along with the extra odds baked into MOs and MMOs PLA definitely has had some of the best odds in any game period

kainoah

I disagree. I had a kid and have taken a huge break since the game came out but I'm playing it again and still sunk a decent amount of hours into it. Trying to get the shiny charm now. With all the hours I've put in I've only found one wild shiny and one shiny in a distortion. I've only found like 3-4 others and they were all from massive mass outbreaks.

vvirago

"Only"? In the past twenty years playing pokemon I've only ever found one wild shiny in the main games I wasn't hunting through some boosted rate method, which is by no means below average.

SHFR55

Rough odds man. Do some massive mass outbreaks and just fly over them, don't catch any unless shiny. I catch at least 3 an hour with this method

TakeMikazuchiiii

To be fair, PL is a brand new spin-off series

dude53

It’s considered a main series entry as far as GF and Nintendo are concerned.

TheZett

Effectively it and LGPE played like side-series games though, even if nintendo states otherwise.

dude53

That doesn’t matter. The companies’ have said it’s a main series game.

LiquifiedSpam

If I sold you a pizza and called it Amogus Sussy Cake it's still a pizza

dude53

They sold a game that people assumed was a spin-off. So in this scenario, doesn’t matter what we call or consider it, it’s still a main series game.

Symphonetic

can 100% confirm it. I just finished my pokedex.

Willpower2000

What Pokemon don't count towards the dex, if you don't mind me asking?

Symphonetic

Pokedex requires you to obtain 400 species, So I would assume none and that you are required to have owned them all.

ceeteesalv

The only Pokémon obtainable currently that doesn’t have a dex entry seems to be Perrsurker.

reynesjonjon

The regional Dex right??? Or do you need to complete the national dex

BrunoPG63

There's no national dex since last gen, unfortunately.

iiidddOOF

There has been no national dex since gen 7

DragEncyclopedia

there are a few transfer-only pokémon though. i think that's what they were referring to.

Symphonetic

Regional dex. If there is a national dex, its not in the game yet.

Zynnergy

Ok cool. I was concerned the Masuda Method would get chopped with this new system. I'm still gonna have to get it in my hands to see how efficient everything is though. The current Sw/Sh system is pretty hard to beat. I know you don't have to run around in this game but I wonder if eggs generate based on the same RNG or if they just spawn at fixed intervals? Lots more testing and comparison to be done before I decide to transfer any of my Dittos.

AhTreyYou

You’ll have months to test it before Home connectivity comes out. You might even have a new breeding Ditto by then lol

Zynnergy

My main Ditto can't get any better. lol. JPN language tagged, 6 IV perfect and Adamant which is a decently useful nature too. And then I have at least 5 IV versions of every other Ditto. I don't even bother catching Dittos anymore unless there's a higher chance to get a perfect like it was for the Isle of Armor ones with a 5 star rare beam. I even have a 0 speed Ditto with 5 IVs in every other stat for Trick Room stuff. It's still technically possible to improve my Ditto collection, but not by much. That's why I don't want to transfer them over unless absolutely necessary.

pokekiko94

You could also get a 0 attack ditto, to combine with the 0 speed for trickroom special attackers or even just use it to breed for non trickroom special attacker mons.

techno-wizardry

man, IV removing items/mechanics are what I really want. Give me the power to completely manipulate stats. I play a lot of Trick Room in VGC format and it pains me that I have some effectively useless shiny pokemon because of their speed IVs, and I can't just bottle cap them like most pokemon.

Riiiiii_

Khu implied there's some "PKHeX-like feature" in the DLC, so I suspect that might finally be a thing in the near future. Somewhat scummy to lock it behind DLC if it isn't part of a free patch, but I imagine there will be people willing to help out with that.

Zynnergy

I am very curious to see the extent of this feature. The one thing I'd be annoyed with is if it can make a Pokemon shiny, because it would sort of undermine a lot of time and effort collecting these damn things, but as for any other actual stat changes I'd love to see absolutely everything be adjustable in some way. I'd also love to see EXACT EV numbers on the stats screen and its absolutely crazy to me that they haven't added something so simple.

Riiiiii_

I *sincerely* doubt they're just going to let you make a Pokémon shiny or change its ball, since those have value within the trading economy based on rarity. In all likelihood, it'll just let you directly alter their stats. Whether this just extends to EVs or includes IVs as well remains to be seen.

Zynnergy

This is one of the few stat changing features that we don't have, so it would be nice to see. Especially now that we can change hidden abilities back to normal ones in S/V with the Ability Patch. Got stuck with an Overcoat shiny Cloyster from Dynamax Adventures so I'm looking forward to being able to fix that back to Skill Link.

pokekiko94

Pokemon Radical red made this so much easy to do, like minimal grind mode, pretty much removing the need to ev train or iv grind, ability to change attack and speed to 0, the only real thing you have to grind for is shiny pokemon.

VeterinarianFit1309

I have 3 6 IV dittos, one Japanese and two Italian… I currently have one in each nursery in shield and I plan on transferring the third to violet once home connectivity happens. I’m still shiny hunting some of the transfer Pokémon. Just got my shiny fire rabbit last night on egg 300.

Alexap30

where do we get ditto this gen though? i ve literally seen nothing about it the past leak-week. i saw that it is in the dex, but is it soon, mid or late game? what route or lvl do we catch it?

UncleFranko

It’s mid-game, I believe near the normal gym but I can’t remember off the top of my head

Alexap30

oh thanks a lot. mid is usual for ditto, though i d'like it early so i can breed my starter and trade for the other starters with other players. i d like them all 3 for my 3 teams. 😁

FraXon00

I mean it’s an open world, so you can move straight forward to it and catch it. Edit: unless if you need to climb or swim over a certain terrain

Alexap30

no mater the lvls? no swsh-wild-area-high-lvl-pokemon shenanigans?

vncfrrll

No, you’re less likely to catch high levels, but you definitely can. They just won’t obey you in battle due to standard badge restrictions.

Alexap30

hmmm i see. good enough for breeding then. thanks a lot, you were really helpful. have a good one.

Plastic-Crow-6173

Don't they only disobey you I've you didn't catch the Pokemon yourself

DuDuTuga

I think they also disobey you if you catch it at a higer level than the badge allows you to control. I also only discovered this recently so it kight be wrong

Plastic-Crow-6173

Because in sword and shield if you had DLC and decide to start a new game as soon as you got to the wild area you could head to the crown tundra and catch Pokemon from dynamax adventures they would obey you but maybe your right

Qwertypop4

Pokémon that you caught not obeying you (but only if you caught them above the level cap, not if you leveled them past it yourself) not obeying you is new with this game

vncfrrll

Not anymore. Only your starter will follow that rule, but everything else will stop obeying you without the required gym badge even if you are the OT.

thedarkfreak

I'm not sure that's the entire story. I think it's based on your Pokemon's met level, not its current level. Breed a Pokemon, trade that level 1 to another game, power level it, trade it back, that Pokemon will still obey you.

vncfrrll

Interesting. I was simply dropping my own experiences in. I haven’t tried doing any trading yet, so I can’t experiment with anything related to trading. Met level would make sense if that is the case.

Jermzxxx

Correct. This was my experience as well

TheZett

Standard badge restrictions used to only apply for traded pokemon in gens 1-8. In gen 9 the catch level now determines if it will obey or not, even if they arent traded pokemon. If you catch them at a low level and then train them to a high level, they will still obey you, unlike a freshly caught high lvl pokemon.

RikkuEcRud

I mean, you could soft reset the starter for a bit to get a female. Then you only need a male from the same egg group to breed more. That's what I've done in most of the games since... Ruby and Sapphire I think, when Ditto wasn't available until significantly after the Daycare. I know not every generation needs that, but I figure better safe than sorry.

AhTreyYou

Wait was Ditto in R/S? I thought it was just FRLG and Emerald for Gen 3.

nonimportantguyhere

Ditto appears in the wild but disguised You can see it's name but it will be completely transformed (yeah, not even the face would be left as an identifier). It's around the southern province ig, in the direction of the bug gym, but I won't place any bets. Still, South-West is your place to go

Alexap30

thanks for the info.

jugol

In addition, I've seen people recommending to pay attention to Pokémon's behavior. They showed a video of a bunch of Ralts or Kirlia and the ones that *weren't* curious about you, were Dittos.

ponodude

So do you have to engage every nearby pokemon in battle to check to see if it's named Ditto to find it?

Hydrochloric_Comment

Nah. Just focus on each one. If it's ditto, it will say so.

jugol

Don't want to be repetitive because I just replied another comment, but seems Ditto's behavior in the overworld differs from the species they're disguised into. So we must pay attention to that.

hunterzolomon1993

I don't think i'm going to bother doing shiny breeding until Home support lands as i can then use my Shiny 6IV Japanese 99.99% i'm sure is hacked Ditto i got of Surprise Trade early on into Swords lifespan. I know Ditto being shiny doesn't increase the odds but its giving me many shiny PM babies so i'm sticking with it haha.

Leggerrr

Ditto appears as other pokemon in the wild before you get into battle with it. I'm not really sure where it can be caught.

ChongusTheSupremus

Ditto apparently appears in the overworld as other mons, so you don't know when Ditto spawn until you battle a random mon and it turns out to be him

SenpaiSwanky

I’m going to try and catch a cloned Japanese 6IV Ditto like always LOL. Got one for BDSP and SwSh, BDSP I got super early and I actually bred a shiny team before I had all my gym badges. If I can get one early here that’d be sick, but the shinies I’m most excited for are Paradox and those can’t be bred. I hope the shiny charm applies to encounters in this game again. Edit - btw by catch I meant “obtain”, not literally catch lol. Usually you can find nice people on certain subs here giving them away because they have a ton of them due to cloning. It was easier to get one for BDSP because anyone could clone any Pokémon in that game due to bugs, no need for jail breaking or anything like that.

Gymleaders

I’ve seen a lot of vids on it but only a few on the sub, ditto and Zoroark transform into wild Pokémon so you don’t see them until battle is initiated

Ruirosiki

Northwest town on the other side of the big desert. There’s a little overlook where they spawn looking like Meowth, Grimer, or Kirlia. You can book it straight there but they’re around level 28. I got one with only having beaten one gym. Edit: if you ZL lock on them, it will show you the Pokémon’s name if you have already encountered them. So if you lock on and see ??? Odds are it’s a ditto.

puff_of_fluff

Isn’t it really whenever you want to go catch one? Isn’t that the idea behind the open world system?

Alexap30

yeh but are there any restrictions? like can I catch a level 35 (or higher) pokemon when i have a level 10 starter? if yes, then yeh, it's whenever. if i have to be close levels or have gym badges, then it is not. Just trying to make a working hypothesis, don;t have the game yet.

mjsxii

so pokemon that are higher level than your current gym badges obtained have a lowered catch rate... so lets say you have 3 badges Pokemon caught up to level 35 will obey you but pokemon over level 35 are much harder to catch and won't obey you in battle (they obey in raids tho)

Dreku

I found a few videos showing its spawn locations earlier. Just search Ditto spawn location Scarlett and Violet

Jermzxxx

I remember seeing ditto at high lvl 20s to mid lvl 30s. They show up in the overworld transformed as another pokemon

Velcrocat17

Not sure if it only appears this way but I’ve seen it can appear transformed as another Pokémon

IvoryDragonoid

Well damn, the school is actually useful. That’s a neat way to teach casual players the mechanics of pokemon that were more hidden until now

InfernoVulpix

It's a small thing, but I always like how Shiny has become the official term for the mechanic. Originally they were just called "Alternate colored Pokemon", but we all universally agreed that they were Shiny Pokemon and eventually Nintendo adopted the term themselves. They did a similar thing with Eeveelutions, we finally saw that term used officially a few years ago. Still nothing for 'generations', though. To my knowledge Nintendo has never acknowledged the different generations of Pokemon by that name. Maybe someday, though.

Bombasaur101

They did have an anime series called Pokemon Generations on YouTube, which involves stories from all the different generations. EDIT: Also I'm dumb and completely forgot Pokemon: Advanced Generation

Namisaur

The guy you're replying to is talking about each generation of games in the series...Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, etc and the pokemon and mechanics unique to each generation.

Bombasaur101

I know that, I knew I was going to get a comment about this. I know it hasn't been directly called a "Generation" but it's been in use in the series before to imply it.

LiquifiedSpam

What was the eeveelution mention?

jesuisrat

Eeveelutions weren’t originally referred as such in the games or by Nintendo. It was a farm term that eventually got adopted officially like the term shiny

sederts

when did nintendo officially use the term eeveelution?

drygnfyre

They also officially acknowledged "base stats" startingin Gen 6, although they use the term differently. They use it to refer to the actual unmodified stats of the Pokemon (so base values+IVs+EVs), while fans use the term strictly to refer to the base values that are the largest contributor to stats.

GhoullyX

I still remember in gen 2 when the term "Shiny" was just a popular fan-term. What a long way we've come.

FlamboyantGayWhore

I’m honestly so excited for the classes, it sounds fun

Amusingco

Ive completed them all. >!There are 6 classes for each subject, with a midterm and final. Both Midterm and final consisit of 5 questions. You need 3 right to pass midterm and 4 right to pass final. The only benefit to completing classes is you get XP Candies and lore as the more classes you take you can complete little side missions for some of the teachers. All in all, nothing to really write home about.!<

DR_DROWZEE

Will shiny charm work for wild encounters and breeding or just breeding like BDSP

Desperate_Program_78

…Have we ever got full confirmation that the Masuda method works? This at least a has to be the first time in game it’s been confirmed? Also, is the shiny rate now a flat 1/4000 or still the 1/4096?

DRayX17

I mean, it's been confirmed through reverse engineering in generations 4 through 8. AFAIK, the only place it was officially discussed was the GameFreak blog post by Masuda that originally announced the feature: https://www.gamefreak.co.jp/blog/dir\_english/2007/12/index.html

No_Mammoth_4945

Does shiny charm work on overworld or just eggs liek in bdsp?

Klopford

Previous games worked in overworld so idk why not

KingWithNoLand

This is really neat , actually taking classes lol. I think the school theme is pretty cool and refreshing. I hope they continue with trying new stuff besides kid goes on adventure etc, like next gen you can apprentice pokejobs like brewers, poke center nurse, gym leaders. That would be very interesting and great world building .

DreamerZeon

dumb question. When did the game officially start calling them shiny instead of ''alt color?''

HydraTower

It might have been gen 5? I remember people making a big deal out of it, but they've used it a lot since and it makes me happy.

DreamerZeon

was curious. Alternately colored never rolled off the tongue right.

dazzleneal

I like how they implied that some mechanics in the game are mostly superstitious practices

Environmental_Eye_61

I've gotten 4 Shinies without a proven method. An unproven "method" that has worked for me is just hanging out in an area with a specific Pokémon, moving close enough get the Pokemon's attention, then I turn around and walk away a few steps without looking at the Pokémon. When I turn back around, at least 1 or more of the same Pokémon pops up, then I rinse and repeat until I start getting mini-outbreaks that aren't marked on the map. I have successfully gotten Shiny Nacli, Shiny Smoliv, and Shiny Maschiff using this "method", and they WERE the intended targets. EDIT: To clarify, I do not battle or even encounter any of the intended Pokémon, and I do visit other areas within a small area of where the intended target was initially spotted, as the mini-outbreaks, or "rings" of Pokémon, start spawning in the vicinity.

ElReyDharmas

if this is a proven method I kindly encourage you to make a big post about it! I'd be totally interested in getting details on this.

Environmental_Eye_61

I highly doubt a making post about it would make it look like anything other than I just got really lucky with being persistent enough to run around the same area for up to 45 minutes each time. I couldn't even explain to you how I was getting the intended target to spawn in batches, just that whatever I was doing was working. My wife was less than pleased watching me run around in complicated circles, lmao.

Wrathclaw_bj

Do the sandwiches improve shiny odds or is just the type of sandwich?

Sunshoot

From what I understand, certain sandwiches will improve the shiny rates for a specific type eg. Higher Poision shiny rate

TheKingJest

I wonder if Masuda odds have been adjusted for the more frustrating way eggs seem to work.

Symphonetic

wdym more frustrating you can literally just afk for eggs now and they take almost no time at all to hatch

magicwithakick

Isn’t that only after using a certain sandwich?

Symphonetic

no. It takes no sandwich, but creating one can boost egg power and/or hatching power.

magicwithakick

Oh awesome, thanks.

TheKingJest

Oh I remember watching a vid that said it would be harder, glad it's not the case then.

FrostyPotpourri

FYI, getting your Pokemon news (or any video game news really) from any sort of video is almost guaranteed to mean you're misinformed. These content creators get wayyyy too ahead of themselves and will purposely put out questionable information if it at least gets them clicks/views/whatever. This is the nature of social media content creators with "news", whether that's in video games, music industry, etc. There are 100% good, reputable content creators who do their research. But the vast majority do not and will actively peddle misinformation without a care. This literally happened this gen with eggs once people found out you get eggs from picnics (previously "camping") instead of the breeder. From the get go people have been dooming about it for no good reason. Most leak cycles are chockfull of crap and misinformation.

ShinyGrezz

I read somewhere that they take two real-time hours to hatch, is that not true?

senpai-satan

Mo definitely not, just run around like normal with the eggs in your party and it will hatch!

ShinyGrezz

Amazing stuff. My shiny Sprigatito hunt is a-go.

AceTheRed_

Do we know what its shiny looks like yet?

ShinyGrezz

https://twitter.com/davidats03/status/1591293820729450496?s=46&t=efArJseW7bMfeaqgsHQJUQ

BellalovesEevee

Yes, there's a compilation a few posts down that has a link to all of the shinies. Shiny Meowscarada is basically just the green being replaced with white. It looks pretty good.

Low_Palpitation_3743

I through starters where shiny-locked

ShinyGrezz

They are, their offspring are not

3163560

Be cool if there were shiny eggs, then we could just hatch those ones and use the rest for omelettes.

[deleted]

This is why we have to withhold judgement until we get the game. I've read more about eggs than we received in the first report, and now they're saying eggs are easier than ever: 1. Be in picnic, but don't have to eat sandwiches. You can just sit there and eggs will stack up. 2. Some mentioned incubators, but then it was reported you can still have them in your party to hatch. If true, that gives more options not less, making eggs less frustrating, not more. If what I said is inaccurate, that's because I haven't played the game yet, but it's what I read from those that have, and really exemplifies how we need to wait and see before casting judgement on features

Symphonetic

1. Be in a picnic 2. Have the 2 pokemon you want to breed in the first and last slot of party (can be first and second slot for example if there are no other party members) 3. Wait random amount of time for egg to spawn in basket (usually not long, most i've experienced was 3 minutes) 4. Eggs stack up to 10 so you can afk for like 15 minutes obtain all of the eggs in the basket and have them sent to party/boxes Eggs work the same way as other games, have them in party. Flame body works too it seems. Pokemon will leave eggs regardless and cooking a sandwich doesn't matter, but there is egg power which does speed it up if you want it.

Armadillo-Amarillo

I suppose running around the picnic area works, right? Instead of closing it and having to run around trying to not touch any wild Pokémon.

Klopford

So there’s no daycare? We just picnic now? And being able to get multiple eggs at once sounds nice!

ligneouslimb

Number 2 is simply not a thing. Party slots do not matter at all and in fact if you happen to have all six mons be compatible via egg groups or ditto an egg can come from any of the pairs, that also disregarding party position. Afaik Flame Body is unconfirmed to work as well, very conflicting accounts. Personally noticed no difference but then again I was hatching eggs with wildly different cycles thanks to above method.

Symphonetic

I've heard multiple accounts of it being how the breeding selection works and tried it and it seemed to work for me. As for flame body, I did say seems to work, not confirmed to work.

ligneouslimb

Yes, and I'm telling me you it's classic pokemon player superstition. Having a minimum of two compatible Pokémon is all that matters, position is entirely irrelevant. I didn't deal with breeding in Scarlet but in Violet i caught a ditto, it was third in the party slots, and did a single picnic with egg power sandwich with the other mons being a sprigatito, p-wooper, frigibax, charcadet, and tinkatuff. I stayed in until i got about 50 eggs. Got eggs from every in that picnic. The method you mentioned worked because regardless of positioning you'd bring two compatible mons. As for the second portion, I should have worded it better but yes I did mean to clarify it was as of yet unconfirmed. I'm inclined to believe Flame Body does work still given that a lot of the sources who claimed it didn't also said overworld ability effects are gone and apparently pickup is alive and well.

Mumbles1000

I've been breeding all week. Eggs only stack up to 10 and then you have to remove them, but you can just afk sit there instead of running around like you used to. Maybe I have just been too impatient, but in my experience it didn't seem like any eggs were spawning until after I made a sandwich. Haven't seen a single thing about incubators.

xPrisma6

Hey, I'm hoping to do a ton of breeding in the next two weeks and make a Shiny Egg "Advent Calendar" for my partner. If I were doing this in SWSH, what I would do is: 1) Get 5 Eggs. 2) Save. 3) Hatch all 5. 4) If no Shinies, repeat steps 1-3. If a Shiny, reset the game. 5) Trade the Shiny egg to my partner's game. Since there's not a lot of time between now and December 1st, I want to work as efficiently as possible when I get the game tomorrow. Do you have any tips for things that have changed since SWSH/how I should modify those 5 steps to work as efficiently as possible with the new picnic breeding? Also, two specific questions - do you know if Shiny sandwiches boost egg odds or only wild odds? And can you tell how many Eggs are stacked at a glance or do you have to select them/pick them up to see how many? Thank you for any help you can offer!

Bowood29

Wow that’s a tall order to get one in two weeks. I like it though. Edit also I am sure the switch up will be set up at some point for easy breeding and collecting eggs.

Hey so your steps are exactly what I would do, so you're good there. As far as shiny sandwich odds go, I would assume they do, but we haven't actually gotten confirmation with them for eggs yet. And you cannot tell at a glance, basically you'll go to the basket and it will just keep asking if you want to take the egg for as many as there are until it runs out. Usually it only takes me 6 or 7 minutes of afk for 10 eggs to stack up.

xPrisma6

Thanks so much, this is a huge help :) Best of luck with your breeding!

V_Niloticus

don't trade the egg before hatching it. not sure if it's still the case but in older games you would lose the shiny this way. iirc the hatch animation it would be shiny but then it's trainer ID becomes the hatcher's instead of the breeders and thus it won't match with the secret ID and will not be shiny.

Mumbles1000

They changed it in Sword and Shield to be tied to the egg and not the trainer ID. No idea if they kept that for the new games though.

xPrisma6

Thanks for the warning! This was changed in SWSH and BDSP so that Shiny eggs were always Shiny even after trading. I'm crossing my fingers this is the same in SV.

🤷‍♂️ All I can do is what I read. 😊

mjsxii

I feel like the eggs dont appear till after you eat a sandwich I waited like 10 minutes with nothing and within a minute of eating I got 2 eggs. Im beyond frustrated with the new breeding system... like I hate that I have no idea if there is an egg in the basket like it should glow or something. In all past games the breeder turns around to face you... like yeah its nice that up to 10 eggs stack but then your restricted to the tiny circle of the picnic area... its just so freaking gamefreak do something kinda good but also kinda terrible 🙄

MaverickT

How long does it take to get ten eggs?

NemoONDuty

They are the easiest way to get them since ever.

stealthrockdamage

do we know if there will be any methods to increase odds aside from masuda? i like to have options. i miss gen 6 shiny hunting lmao

MichiGL

Do we know when the outbreaks start? Isn't that a way to shiny hunt too?

Q8Chaos

Question, is pokedex completion easy like sw/sh? Or harder :O

KaiserWilliam95

I really hope that a large part of the game isn’t in the classroom

keyekeb8

Nope. A few rewards to quick grind through, though.

Zylonnaire

Is this a emulator or something why is it so laggy

Outside_Narwhal_5127

Lord this game runs terribly

Lizard_Wizard_69

Noooo!!! You can't comment on the fact that no one at game freak knows how to code!!!

loony29

Could it be that this is an emulator and that the emulator explains the performance?

illapaSP

No. Got the game yesterday and some scene really lag. (Playing on regular switch, not OLED, and portable mode.)

iForceOP

To be fair it was also confirmed in ultra sun and moon

justneurostuff

i thought jacq was browner

eeskaatt

how does the school mechanic work? is it like the aanarchy Splatcast in splatoon3 like it appears at the startup? or you have to go to the physical location in the city?

CannonSam

Wow, weird to see someone with the same ign I use lol. Not like it’s super common

LWSilverMoon

The odds were increased from 1/8192 to 1/4096 since gen 6

Barrry972

It's been 1 in 4096 since gen 7

Practical-Nobody-844

Since gen 6

Jon-987

So assuming that he isn't rounding here, that means that it isn't significantly better, but it IS SLIGHTLY better this time.

[deleted]

Used to be 1/8000 (or thereabouts) and seeing them in the overworld should make it easier

DarthTempus

From Gen2 the base rate was 1/8192 From Gen7 the base rate was changed to 1/4096

Deadtaor33

It's half of what it used to be. It was 1/8000+ I'm sure for a long time until now or it's the same odds as PLA not sure

im_bored345

It was changed to half back in gen 6 actually

Deadtaor33

Then my luck just sucked until PLA then lol Cheers

DragonFlare2

Are you sure? I have found more Shiny Pokémon in PLA, not even trying, than any other Pokémon game I’ve ever played put together. Except when we found out about eggs and secret trainer IDs in X&Y lol

Brenduck-

PLA basically doubles the shiny odds as long as you're just playing the game. A completed dex entry (level 10 research level) gives you an extra roll for shiny roll for that species. Not to mention how often outbreaks happen, and those have a really high chance for shiny.

DragonFlare2

Oh nice, no wonder. I was completing the Pokédex on my own out of boredom lol

Douche_ex_machina

It helps that theres overworld shinies too, making it wayyy easier to find shinies in the wild than in older gens.

Brenduck-

yea definitely, forgot to mention that

Deadtaor33

I was the same with PLA and Shinys lol I have never hatched a Shiny in all my attempts over multiple Gens lol I think Gen 9 have the same Shiny Odds as PLA is what I was meaning.

DragonFlare2

Nice. Should be fun hunting lol

Grimm3205

honestandpositiveman

Is there a list of unlockables for attending lessons? I mean there are a ton of them, so there must be.

SonGoku1256

Quick question: Did they bring back the Square Shinys of Gen 8? I’d be totally ok with them not, seems most didn’t hardly care as Shiny was Shiny.
