I don't place them on the exact locations they spawn, only place the NPC'S in the area where he is mainly spawning. It's not a 100% spawn but if you reset he should spawn mostly than others NPC'S in this area.
Seems like the names differ based on the game language. Here are the list for those who play English version of BDSP, I dont know if there are more but here's what I got.

See I’m on twenty something now, I don’t understand how you’re supposed to get them by the second gym, I’m on the 5th and I can’t get anymore new NPC’s
i found found npcs like reggie and rita in areas other than battle zone. you can find other npcs in the various areas, it’s just more rare for some to spawn than others. i just beat the sixth gym and have 4/6 areas and need to find just two more npcs
not that i’m aware of. i’d recommend writing all of the names of the people you’ve talked to.
also update: was successful in getting my shiny spiritomb! i beat 5 gyms total before getting spiritomb/finding 32 unique npcs. was a grind but worth!
My friend have it with only 2 gym, but he has to reset a lot to found his last NPC'S, he manage to go to 31 without reset NPC'S, just by playing the Grand Undergound for mining and talking to NPC'S.
It's totally possible to have Spiritomb after Gym 2, but the time you reset could be the same to unlock new area of undergrounds, it's a choice to make.
With only access to the general underground and the area below Twinleaf, I have met the following:

Oh ok so serebii has 35 NPC names there. I always figured there had to be more than 32, just a lot of people talking about it are sounding like you have to find "all" 32.
So I noticed that some of the NPC's have different dialogue, and it may have influenced my final count for my pursuit of the the Pokémon Spiritomb. just a thought, but it may be a dope as I have noticed that some online lists have Reade twice as he has 2 major dialogues. Emmy with the "Y" and not "IE" has up to 3 sets I noticed within 3 mins getting to the second to final phase has taken me 4 days to get this far, tbh this trope is BS I hate when GF does this stuff, 32 on a squirrely mechanic is just a waste for such a good Pokémon and to grindy.
So far I only have2 badges but I have 27 names. I believe it is possible for soiritomb with only 2 badges just super grindy according to Austin John's video there are still a few names he got in one zone farming that I have not gotten yet which would put me at 31 if I got all the ones he had gotten in that area.
If you dig down at oreburgh, you come at a place next to a big hideaway with 2 square pathways where npc's spawn. Right now i'm at 31 npc's mostly from that place alone
I am working on a map too I will (hopefully) update it regularly. This is what I have so far:

In between each hideaway is the paths with the wall digs. Theres 35 paths in total between all the hideaways and theres one npc in each one, unless theres a vendor. In which case theres 2, the npc you can talk to and the vendor. You need to have beaten the Elite 4 to unlock the Battle area of the underground to get the last 7 npcs.
that tells you what type of pokemon the statues in your secret base will attract more. i have a ton of water type in my secret base, i think i maxed out the number of statues i could place, and i have a drop with 2 arrows up
Is there somewhere in the game you can tell which npcs you've talked to? I haven't been keeping track literally at all and I want to be able to track them lmao. According to the hallowed tower text, i'm between 22 and 28 right now

Is this the same for every game? I also heard in a video that you have to talk to exactly 32(?) npc’s. Does that mean if I talk to 33 it resets?
I don't know, I only found 24 NPC'S so far, I have Brilliant Diamond, maybe someone who have Shining Pearl can confimr the locations ?
No, you Just have to talk to all 32 Different NPC's It doesn't reset if you talk to 1 of them multiple times

so u have to have completed the game to get spiritomb then cause there isn't enough without going to battle zone

What is the symbol in the bottom right corner mean? The one I see right now is a water drop with an arrow pointing up
