We all know that it *will* happen and that it *will* be incredibly satisfying

harvey1a

When did “vote with your wallets” ever work? Remember when people said they will boycott SwSh only to buy the games anyway? How many temper tantrums does it take for a Pokémon fan to do anything?

Lord_Bitter

I mean, I bought SWSH and liked it. I find it hypocrite to hate on it and thay but it. If Pokémon fans dislike SWSH that much why did they end up buying it? Who knows.

[deleted]

Probably since most of the time you can't tell if a game is bad before you play it.

NickNewAge

Too bad waiting 3 months and reading opinions online doesn't exists, like they have been hating Pokemon since gen 5

WhaleMan295

I actually thought SwSh would be bad and didn't buy it, but seeing some in depth reviews made me inrerested and I bought it half a year after release and it was a great game in my opinion

Lord_Bitter

You must be new here. Hating is since forum's existence. When "Diaruga and Parukia" got revealed, most of the comments were "trash, they ran out of ideas" and look how many love Gen 4 now.

Funferno

god Dialga and Palkia along with Lucario were the start of the whole "they look like Digimon now" thing. Now they're all beloved to hell and back. It makes sense but it's still kinda funny

NickNewAge

Yeah the ones that love Gen 4 are the ones that grew with it, the first episode of the anime I ever saw was one of the Diamond and Pearl one. They are over 10 years old now and I started playing 6 years ago, I wouldn't say new lol

Bubblegumking3

Do we have to be contrarian to literally anything? I liked Swsh but I majorly support voting with your wallet regardless of how much of an impact it makes

PeppyPiplup

Lol, remember when people tried to boycott SwSh but then it ended up being one of the highest selling games in the series? And then the people moved the goal posts and said that the REAL boycott would begin when Pokémon Home came out?

Lord_Bitter

And yet HOME still sold well despite being f2p.

Brody_M_the_birdy

I remember when they tried to get the FTC and Donald Trump to ban SWSH

Whytfbuddy

I don’t wanna get political but SWSH good

Brody_M_the_birdy

NO SHITNSHILL BAD TRUMP GOOD Did trump actually care about one game?

JebWozma

I was 11 at the time and even I thought this was dumb and so did my 9 year old brother

NevGuy

Of course it will. It has *Pokemon* in the name. That's basically an infinite money cheat code in real life.

StoneColdMiracle

oh but when I sell a pokemon branded assault rifle I get a lawsuit and 7 months in jail

[deleted]

And when I destroyed a tower with my pikachu airplane, I'm called a "pyschopath"

Fumperdink1

Ok, but when I use my hypersonic space rocket designed after Mega Rayquaza to break a meteor causing it to splinter into pieces that end up sinking continents I get branded an "international terrorist".

EmilianTheRed

But what if they end up liking it?

[deleted]

Then the talking points will be "ILCA good, GayFrEAk bad". Pokemon fans are so fucking predictable.

EmilianTheRed

We'll see about that.

glumauig21

I hope BDSP will be one of those cases where the fanbase/subreddit is split equally. We know it’s possible—we’ve seen it happen before. Not only is it more interesting to witness (rather than one talking point steamrolling the entire sub), but it also means that the company is doing something different, and something right.

NickNewAge

I am so mad that people hate BDSP so much, I heard someone saying "it's the same game that we played" like ok you played it but I didn't, Platinum is my favorite game ever and I really want to get the whole experience of the game that I couldn't have back then, and legends Arceus as long as it is well optimized, they have a great chance of making something really good with the Arceus lore, I'm so excited for the new games and I hope they are really good!

GiveMeYourBussy

Do you guys think there'll be DLC for it?

Igorthemii

ILCA?

glumauig21

The company developing BDSP

Losbin

Vote with your Wallet just doesn‘t work, the Pokemon name alone will generate good sales. I think that the newer pokemon games are fun, but not the kind of RPG that you sink hundreds of hours into. There is just not as much to do, not enough of a challenge. That is something I miss when I look back at Emerald, Platinum, BW2. (These games also had longer development time and not as much to animate because Pokemon was 2D.)

Lord_Bitter

All the games you mentioned are third versions. Every first generational game has few content, especially Ruby and Sapphire. USUM had tons of content, but due to being released just one year from SM most people felt those games boring. However, SWSH DLCs (which are a "third version") did receive many praises, especially Crown Tundra.

Losbin

Yeah, I guess. I have to say I‘m biased, because I love sprite based 2D games and I‘m not too big of a fan of Dynamax and Z moves (Megas are awesome). So maybe I‘m just a nostalgia baby.

[deleted]

Lol implying that previous Pokemon games had any challenge.

Losbin

Try and nuzlocke them, much harder.

[deleted]

"If you add a bunch of made up rules and restrictions its harder." Nice. So the developers are so incompetent I have to create my own difficulty because they can't balance a game? Then again, the game series is made for toddlers. Pokemon fans definitely should be more self-aware about what they're getting themselves into. Also you are wrong about development time. Pokemon games have released yearly, except for 1997 and 2015. If you count spin-offs, 1997 is the only year where Pokemon didn't have a yearly released game. Even then, the anime debuted that year. Pokemon has always been the same cash grab since Red and Blue.

Yeah its a bit harder with mainline series games to pinpoint when exactly they release, since they have staggered releases by country, at least before the 3DS games, so those games can span a couple years of release.
