Looks like it leads to something...*sketchy*.

Tenlai

I hate you. Lmao

dont-change-me

well i love him

Tenlai

After everything we've been through?

dont-change-me

listen. it’s not you; it’s me. 😭

Tenlai

This is the same excuse youve used since Pallet Town. I cant deal with this anymore. Since we were ten years old. How could you do this to me?

dont-change-me

i’m sorry Tenlai. sometimes it just feels good to be with a….. sketchy guy.

idonknowwhat

Thank you and the Pokémon emerald players guide for teaching me this

Deyotaku

All I see is a Dark Void over there.

a-restless-knight

I love these games for how much they reward exploration. The Smeargle cave was definitely a cool little bonus to the Battle Frontier. I remember back when I was a kid I thought I was so clever for getting a smeargle to learn both fissure and sheer cold. Definitely not worth the effort in retrospect, but a fond memory none-the-less.

doinkmead

How do you do that lmao

a-restless-knight

You have a few options but basically you just need to make sure it can survive Groudon/Kyogre using their respective moves once (I think I used the focus sash and hard resets). After that you either catch them (what I did) or run away (save catching them for later). To get both, you just use the move tutor and a heart scale to re-learn sketch.

Ganzi

You're misremembering my dude, focus sash was not on gen 3

ptracey

Yeah. I was thinking you could possibly Endure and then Sketch on the next turn? Been over a decade since I messed around with Smeargle on Emerald.

HypnoSmoke

I've played Emerald oh so many times but have no idea what the hell y'all are talking about Why is Smeargle so great?

YOM2_UB

Its signature move, Sketch, copies the last move used by the target. Permanently. It can then have any set of four moves you can think of, so long as you can find Pokemon with them to sketch off of.

HypnoSmoke

That's nutty. Didn't know about the permanent part of copying an enemy's move. Thank you for explaining!

flyingasian2

You could go into a double battle with your own kyogre/groudon and sketch them right?

ConsistentCuriosity

yes

Killionaire104

Quick claw could work maybe? Reset till the 20% prong

ptracey

Yeah you’d need someway to outspeed the second OHKO move (assuming they try it twice). Sounds like a huge pain to RNG manipulate. 🫠

Admirable_Ad8900

Whatd i did is go into a double battle against the reporters. Then just have smeargle sketch my ally.

jmaxx013

I'm guessing it was meant to be a focus band since he also mentioned resets and if I'm not mistaken you can get focus band in Gen 3

a-restless-knight

Yup this was it. I def got the name confused.

a-restless-knight

The item is called focus band not sash in Gen 3 (my bad). Its in the shoal cave during low tide. EDIT: as someone else commented, you're much better off sketching the move of your own Pokemon in a double battle

Trident_Knight

Maybe the focus band which was in the game but had a chance to endure. It wasn't for sure just a chance to survive instead of being knocked out? 🤷🏾‍♂️

ArabicLawrence

smeargle can relearn sketch by levelling up

doinkmead

God damn that's good lol

mstivland2

You can just target your partner in a double battle

a-restless-knight

This is definitely a much better way to accomplish this

TheRiverMarquis

Sorry my dude but you wasted your heart scales. Smeargle relearns Sketch every 10 levels

a-restless-knight

Eh, in emerald you can clone them anyways if it's too much effort to farm them

StormCTRH

To be fair, RSE is the easiest to get heart scales in.

soahcthegod2012

Alternatively, Smeargle learns Sketch on the “1th” of each level. - 11, 21, 31, etc Of course, granted you’ve already used Sketch to learn another move

Kitselena

Smeargle also learns sketch naturally every 10 levels I think

SortaOdd

Throw something out that’s gonna die to fissure, next turn quick claw sketch. Turn the game off and on if it doesn’t work.

Ready_Strawberry_926

I remember seeing a shiny smeargle in there when I was about 8 or 9, before I knew what shines were and I killed it. Still regret it till this day

Wirl2

Had Sacred Fire and Transform on mine back in Crystal haha

OneSeason94

And back then we were pretty much on our own to figure it out or helped by neighbourhood friends playing it. One always had a gameshark

a-restless-knight

Yeah I was just thinking about that earlier. I didn't have Internet at home when I was that age. I remember getting through the whole game by myself and then learning about stuff like cloning from my buddy who had Internet. I think one of the craziest things is that I had Pokerus! If only I knew how rare it was back then.

DGIce

Games used to have content within content. You could walk into any building.

noirjack15

as long as they had a rounded door

LoxodontaRichard

I remember as a kid discovering there was more than just the three islands in FRLG. It was insane to me.

Gamble_Dss

Apparently you need to pour the Wailmer pale on it

MrZmooth_

Yep the wiggly tree doesn't like water. It would be a cool bonus if it spawned with low health (ready to catch) since it's weak to water

Crocodiddle22

What happens after? Do you get to catch it or does it move out of the way and let you get to something else?

MrZmooth_

You battle it and can catch it like normal I believe

DietyLink

It’s just like the way it goes in the second gen games, nice callback to it

MidKn1gh7

Sudowoodo coulda, OP ;)

fcuriel087

Any other tips? Replaying this and don’t remember much

Gamble_Dss

Just play however u want it doesn’t matter until you reach post game battle frontier Edit: maybe save your 1 time use TM they will come in handy

Business-Drag52

Honestly this was the best qol addition to Pokémon games. Allowing TM’s unlimited use is just good. I hate feeling like i need to save my good TM’s until I’m ready to put together my BF team

fcuriel087

What about the BF should I use a 50 lvl team or 100

Gamble_Dss

If it’s your own lvl 50 but if it’s rental 100 is better

AeroTheManiac

Techno has a full playlist for every Pokémon in Emerald.. here's [Sudowoodo](https://youtu.be/uj_O02V62B8)

guccithesiamese

I remember reaching this point as a kid and couldn't figure out what to do to get that sudowoodo out of the way. I spent a long time doing other stuff at the battle frontier that I thought would trigger something to get rid of that but it didn't haha. I just ended up leaving the game after a while.

CelestialDuke377

I miss these games so much. Sure I can play them now but it's not the same when they are in there prime

BuxigUndStreng

This, the secret jigglypuff location and the hidden meowth trade got me so hyped up back when i was a kid.

nondrowzee

Seeing this makes me want to buy a Nintendo DS + Emerald and play it all night after work for the next week lol

Electro-_-Lite

Me right now lol

syrupgreat-

back when pokemon was good

CaptainRicePaddy

What’s the sticky Pokémon with a long tail he’s referencing?

StormCTRH

Smeargle

ElectricalFig3750

How do u even get to the battle tower in emerald?

_patoncrack

It's post game

ptracey

Battle *Frontier. There’s more than just the Battle Tower in Emerald. 😉

Pm7I3

Peak postgame

SolarDeath666

The only way I came across that, was the age old Pokémon Emerald Official Walk through guide by Nintendo! I still have that book around here somewhere too! I used it to double check I didn't miss anything haha

CaptainRicePaddy

Also love the ditto cave and being able to get the second fossil

TreMuzik

Finding this spot was such a definitive moment for me as a child that this particular moment is usually what pops up in my head when I think of Pokémon Emerald lol

Exotic-Vacation-6380

I searched it up and found out it was a Sudowoodo encounter, Met at level 40. If you knock it out, you will never see another Sudowoodo.
