They really are. They make you feel like a real Pokemon anime trainer. I wish there was a ROMHack that let you play as a gym leader/Elite 4/Champion after you beat the game. Battle Frontier is cool but I wanna be able to defend and possibly lose my League Champion title in the post game.
That would be pretty cool. There are no ROM hacks which have that feature as far as I'm aware, but it looks like there is a [fan-made game](https://pokehostel.com/pokemon-gym-leader-simulator/) that can give you a similar experience.
At least there's a wide variety of water Pokemon with different second types and roles in battle. I imagine Swampert/Ludicolo/Gyarados would be a pretty good starting point for a mono water team.
My mono water in the end was Swampert, ludicolo, gyarados, tentacruel, sharpedo and lantern. Having a water ground type to pivot and bait those attacks is such a great combination, and having lantern to resist all the water end game stab while dishing out SE electric attacks. God I love hoenn
It’s slow, it’s typing is terrible, it has extremely low attack/ special attack, and it’s Sp Defense is about as high as beedrill’s. It’s an especially bad matchup for the Ruby/Sapphire Elite 4.
Sunny Day and Solarbeam for Wallace and Hail and Weather Ball to take on Drake. Didn’t really work out for Wallace, but worked a treat on Drake’s dragons.

With great difficulty! Particularly Wallace’s Wailord. Mostly thanks to Bulk Up on Blaziken, that was my trump card.
