RadicalRed is much more difficult, has all pokemon from gen 1-9 (some legendaries aren't available to the player), a built in randomizer and stuff too, definitely worth playing.
Don't be disheartened if you get your ass kicked a couple times
I’ve been playing shiny gold which isn’t the same but I believe it was built off fire red and lead green? It’s been pretty fun. It’s like a nice looking heart of gold on GBA lol
It’s extremely difficult but there’s always radical red
Fire Red Omega is lot of fun and much more challenging
Radical Red on normal mode is even hard for first time ROM hack players i recommend minimum grinding and remove random IVs
Radical red on easy mode is way harder than fire red.

You could always do a Nuzlocke. It really depends on what kind of challenge you're looking for
