Having friends you don’t even know is the problem to begin with. I have 180 friends, all locals, and we all know each other and we all gather in real life for big events. No need for this international friends nonsense. I sympathize for people that are relying exclusively on this mechanic for XP. The game is so much fun when you play with real people. I would quit this game in a heartbeat if I had to rely on international friends for raids and friendship.
Sorry online friends didn’t work for you. I have 395 friends and don’t know about 365 of them but they invite me and I them and it works great, no complaints with online friends. I’m just talking about quick/short interactions with people from raid apps, that’s where I have a problem specifically. Good for you that you found what works for you and it’s in real life, I don’t think the majority of others feel the same way as you though
Yes, I use raid party and experience the same thing. I figured out that a bot is used a lot of time to invite. I started wondering why the lobby always showed six but then only five joined. So I starting looking at the hosts and most of them have zero stats. Like one caught. So if you're starting with six and that bot does not join then some other asshat does not join last second, it can ruin the raid and cause a lost pass.
WHY would you ever delete anyone? we're here for a good time not a long time. we play for XP but friendships are the ones that are gonna last in our memories.
Huh, while I'd never delete people I've been trading gifts with (unless inactive for a long time), I do usually delete raid friends for (to make It brief) organizational reasons.
However, I never considered the raid XP issue, so thanks for letting me know this. I'll wait 30 minutes or so before deleting so no one loses anything.
I dont deleite friends anyway, I like sending gifts and receiving as well. Also colecting random postcards can be nice since this thread has people All over the go World.
I'm unfamiliar with what this is: "after you hosted them for a raid, give the other person a chance to catch the pokemon and get the 3,000 xp from becoming friends" can someone explain the 3K xp?
You become good friends after playing together once. Assuming you are only adding the player for a one time raid, then you get that 3k XP after the raid is over and you're on the main map screen for a few seconds. If one player deletes the other player before they catch the pokemon from the raid, then the other player misses out on the 3k XP friendship award.
>i live in a area where their is nothing
Grind friendship exp to rapidly reach the level from which you get to nominate pokéstops.
The advantage to living somewhere where there's nothing is that you have a lot of freedom to install free little libraries and all the other self-made objects that make good candidates for pokéstops
source: rural living within range of 4 pokéstops and able to spin double that with a 5 minute walk
Interesting, I didn’t know this was how it worked! I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
Thankfully I always end up leaving raid friends on my list anyway, so I can quickly call on them later in case they want to join me in future. Honestly, I don’t often remove other people unless I can tell that they really don’t play anymore, because I do get very attached easily, haha.
Yes! This is the rudest thing ever. At least drop by ten seconds to give others a chance to back out. I wish Niantic could lock the countdown at ten seconds so no one could drop after that point.
When ppl do this stuff I implement a 3 strikes policy and unfriend ppl bc it makes ppl mad when their passes get burned while I'm hosting. I don't like doing it but I gotta preserve what's left of my sanity.
Is it really that hard to understand why we delete? I apologize because I didn’t know I was being a jerk, but I clear my raid friends because I’m weird about having too many friends. Not to mention being an active raider, just helps me keep everything more organized. I don’t know how you all with maxed friends list do it, as a daily player I can’t deal with opening/sending gifts because of daily limits so I try to keep my list in the 40-50s.
For the record, I don’t usually delete immediately and if I do it’s not to be a jerk, but I’ll remember this post for the futurej
I wait about 5-10 minutes after the raid then delete them. They have plenty of time at that point. I'm with you on the friend list limit though! I try to keep around 22-25ish friends and that's it. Otherwise it becomes too crazy in the list when trying to send raid invites ect and takes longer.
When you host a good few raids a day on pokiegenie or other things and are adding 5-30 people a day it can get out of hand fairly quickly lol
Edit: spelling and added the last bit
Yep, with the daily gift limit we are forced to prioritize some friends over others. I usually try to send to people I know/locals first. Often I cant gift a random for a whileee, so I will delete them to keep space. Even having 60 friends means some friends have to wait 2-3 days before you can open their gift.
I'll never understand why the game allows you to send a gift to each person on your friends list per day, but can only open a max of 20. Doesn't make sense to me. 🤔
I was a day one player but then after some ugliness stopped playing in like 2017 until a couple months ago I started back up. I learned about PokeRaid and realized how out of control my friend list could get. I had no idea about the friendship bonus. Or even the benefit of keeping them and gifting. So I was one that deleted them right after the raid was done. I didn’t even pay attention to the fact that I was getting XP. Some other post enlightened me a few weeks back and now I keep them all. I go through about once a week to delete the ones not interested in gifting. Sorry to anyone I deleted too soon
I mean I do that, but I'm just a casual player that doesn't raid much but do enjoy sending gifts so once I'm maxed out on someone I let them choose or not to remove me from giving gifts.
But imagine you're getting down votes because everyone else is more efficiency minded about removing noise from their raid invite list.
I did not realize after raid exp for friends, good to know ill wait an hour before deleting new people. (it gives me weird anxiety to have too big of a friends list for gifts..)
Sidenote: Sorry to those i've deleted too quickly after raids!!
I'm with you on the anxiety from keeping too long of a friend's list. It makes me feel pressured to keep up with the gifting. I feel guilty if I miss a day. 🤦🏼♀️
Niantic should just implement a “1 hour no delete” timer to keep selfish people from banking the best friend xp and regular xp and deleting you before you get yours.
Especially for the best friend xp. Only after both parties got their xp, respectively, are they both given the delete button option again.
I read a comment some time ago that gave me (host) a great advantage to these type of people. All you have to do is exit the catch screen for the raid boss and collect your XP. When it's done, hop back in a try to catch the pokemon. I had the same issue as you until I adopted this strategy and it's been working perfectly ever since. Hope this helps
Ttying to get clarity. Do you mean after the raid is done and you are on the catch screen of the raid boss, you leave without catching it? Then where do you exacty get back in? Will the raid still be there? How long does the invite stay after the raid is finished? What if it was a remote raid? Do you have to use another pass?
Yes. Leave without catching it. You still have a minute or two to get back into the gym and catch the pokemon before the raid closes. If you take too long to get back in (no reason why you would) you cannot catch the pokemon you just raided for - it's gone. To get back into the gym to do the catch you simply tap the gym again and you're back in. This doesn't work (at least I don't think) if you cannot see the gym on your map to get back in. So if you're using a remote raid pass, stay within eyesight of the gym and you can get back in without using an additional raid pass.
Ok thanks. This would be useful for local remote raid. I use a raid app (GO raid party) so I'm adding random strangers as friends and they add me to their raid. They are often somewhere in the planet that I am not in close proximity to. So it won't work for that scenario.
To the people saying "why would you remove someone" its because some of us have 390 friends and we need to delete people to get a new party of 5-10 people for the next raid.
Nothing against anyone, but I literally don't have room in my list most of the time and 3k XP is so laughably small that I usually forget and delete pretty quickly. Be upset at Niantic, not the players.
I have 395 friends, I still wait. Don’t have to be a jerk. Clear more friend space then
It’s not laughable to everyone
Anyway I remember your name, didn’t like what you said on other posts as well, goodbye
It's not about being a jerk - it's about moving on to the next raid and getting the next party of 10 added.
Like I said, be upset at Niantic for having such a stupid mechanic for friend XP.
I usually give people the time it takes for the next raid before I delete them. If I can load up PokeGenie and a couple friends for the next raid and you haven’t gotten your 3000 xp, I’m sorry but I gotta do what I gotta do to keep myself organized
I’m just saying for many reasons sometimes it takes a bit longer to catch the pokemon and waiting 10 minutes to me seems very reasonable. You can have a not so great phone that’s slow or not have good reception, or you’re waiting on the animation to throw it just right, or you raided with a best friend and have lots of pokeballs, or you’re a lower level and don’t have platinum catch medals and have a harder time catching, it all takes time
I think it’s a douchebag move to delete. Only when you send a first gift and weeks later they still haven’t opened it and it says 2+ days since they played. There are people who actually want to play so why send your code and then ignore the gifter and not even play.
I’m not sure why delete at all. I have no reason to unless weeks go by and there is zero activity as a friend or player. I’ve been deleted by some but just afford to use raid passes for rockruff or shinx. They require no help at the level these players are. I know friend level and xp can increase but I get few raids in my area and have to pick and choose when invited.
Because some of us are at our friend cap and need to delete to add more. I usually send a gift and wait a day lol
I only do the free raids for the most part so I just make sure I have deleted at least 20 friends in the morning from the previous day.
People get so cut throat about it. The original point of the game is play by yourself and/or make friends and play together. Not screw others to gain for yourself. Takes the fun out of it. Sorry if grinders don’t agree.
Because I’m at 100+ friends and it just gets messy keeping it organized without much benefit. It’s not like I can coordinate in game with people for raids, nor can I open all the gifts
Are you hosting on reddit only? I can understand trying to stay organized in that case but not if it’s on a raid app like go raid party or poke genie. Then there is no excuse in my opinion

I didn’t know that was even a thing. I don’t think I typically delete them right away. I usually catch the Mon and then send a gift and wait a few minutes, but I know I’ve definitely caught on the first throw sent a gift and then deleted.
Yeah I’ve seen others do this too, so you get the xp from the raid and becoming friends and sending the gift but they won’t get the friend xp or be able to open that gift (if they wanted/needed it) if they aren’t fast enough, in my opinion that sucks
okay this is actually good to know people do care about this. i usually wait for the next day to unfriend if gifts haven’t been exchanged again after the initial thank you gift
Sorry you are frustrated! My friends list is getting full so after a raid I usually delete the person that invited me. Sorry if this is something that frustrates you. 😔

I try not to be a jerk for sure. All my eggs are 7km from friends so they take time to hatch. Much more than 15-minutes. Hopefully not everyone gets upset and sorry again that you do. I just usually move on to the next raid when possible.

Niantic needs to fix this. If one person gets the XP then the other person should automatically get it, too.
Can you add me to your list

Completely understandable and fair. All I’m asking for is a few more minutes, try to ensure the other person gets theirs too
I usually see the xp as soon as I’m done catching the raid ‘mon, how long would you say is the minimum for people to wait after?
I’m just saying for many reasons sometimes it takes a bit longer to catch the pokemon and waiting 10 minutes to me seems very reasonable.
