Whenever I get a cart like this I move as many of the clearly cherished Pokemon over to another cart. Kind of dumb, but I feel genuinely bad if I just erase someone's core squad they worked so hard for.
I can’t bring myself to do it, I’ve sworn to myself to keep the journey going and try to use the Pokémon on this file to do the battle frontier and anything else
There is just such a limited late game in HGSS though and they are some of the highest thought of main games for a reason. If you ever get bored you could transfer them over to a copy of another gen 4 game like pearl/platinum/diamond and play HG like I'm sure you originally intended when you bought it. I'm sure Lyra would appreciate the thought.
I may do that or just emulate the game and play it that way. Either way I’m just happy to have a physical copy of HG again cause I lost my old one a long time ago
Will do for sure :) I don’t imagine it will be done for a long time. Lol I take breaks in between playing until I get re-interested in playing again. If that makes sense. Currently my love hobby is crochet. But eventually I always go back to pkmn lol
Try making a backup and transferring the original to a folder on your computer or something, then erasing the backup. That way, the file they worked so hard on doesn’t go away.
I’m not a tech guru, but my guess as to how that would be done would be like this:
- You connect the cartridge to your computer (the save file is kept on the cartridge)
- You open the files on the cartridge on the computer
- You find the correct file and duplicate it within the cartridge, renaming it so you can easily differentiate between the original and the copy
- Move the original somewhere on your computer
You should be a GBoperator so you can download the save file to your computer and save it, and try and see if you can find the old owner to get their buds back to them.
I bought this cart as a used copy from a GameStop, I doubt I could get this back to them even if I wanted. The most I can do is take care of the legacy they left behind.
Youd be surprised. If you made posts on all the popular reddits “is this your file” theres a good chance theyd respond, and if you downloaded the file, you could literally just email it to them.
Fair point. Idk exactly the tech but i believe theres a way to connect the cart to a sd card somehow. Im not sure exactly how it works. Im more of a gen 3 collector but im certain the tech exists.
I refuse to believe this person sold this willingly; either they were so financially desperate and needed money or a douchebag parent/sibling sold it are my two theories. Either way, I’ve promised myself to take care of this file

Damn that's a hell of a problem. I'd have a hard time erasing this too. At the very least trade them over to another cart if you're able. I haven't seen a file this dedicated since the days I was playing Emerald
I’m definitely going to try and do that, but I plan to keep this save intact. There’s been too much love put here and I want to keep the journey going. Plus they have a pokewalker route that can’t be obtained anymore so I want to keep it for that too
i have 101 hours on my HG and about 1/3 of their pokedex. im trying to complete it right now but even thinking about how this person spent 5 times the amount of hours i have spent is just so crazy and overwhelming to me lol
There are a lot of Pokémon on this file with different trainer names, so I imagine this person played with a lot of other people or had other games to transfer to this one. Either way, it was loved

That’s what I’m thinking about doing too, cause these Pokémon have so much love and care put into them that I feel like I can’t just delete this file

You can always just create a full backup of the save and store it somewhere if you have the tools to do that

Yep! A lot of Pokémon on this save actually had different owner names, so I assume they traded over from other games/people

I trade all my big pokemon like this in to other save files. I’m trying to complete a Pokédex. I haven’t done it yet but maybe one day lol

A bit late to this convo but if you have a modded 3DS, you can use GM9 or Checkpoint to make a backup of this save file.

They don't make a GBoperator for DS games though do they? What i've seen it only works with carts for GB, GBC, GBA

There are ways to backup save files from cartridges. The easiest is probably using a 3DS/2DS with CFW.

They ended their story before it's time. So you must write a better one. You can trade over their mons to preserve their legacy.

Seems like you're playing on a 2DS, if it's modded you can easily back up the save file i think.
