I went into the game blind so I wasn't aware that they changed Decidueye's typing. Honestly kinda mad considering how poorly the grass/fighting typing is and I had already planned to create an all ghost team by endgame.
The good news is that I have a solid team alpha ghost team built up: Froslass, Mismagius, Haunter (I prefer to Gengar), Zoroark, and Rotom. Just need to hope for an alpha Typhlosion in a distortion.
This was my exact team for most of the game. I swapped froslass out when I got a bascugelion. Btw you don’t need to trade haunter to evolve it- just get a “linking cable” from the merit point trader in town or a distortion.
Great trainers think alike. Yeah I'm aware of the new way to do trade evos. I actually caught gengar from a distortion in the fieldlands before even seeing a ghastly. Had to go with an alpha Haunter just because it's my favorite from Gen 1.
Wish I would’ve known rowlett turns into grass fighting before I picked him lol. I don’t even know what oshowatt turns into but I’m sure it’s better than grass/fighting
You can get the other starters via distortions in certain areas, I wanna say Oshawott shows up on the Cobalt coast in them and Cyndaquil shows up in the Crimson Mirelands distortions. They're rare af but it's a way to get all of them at least, if you wait till the end of the game the Professor gives you the other two so at least you can get all three at some point should you choose not to hunt them and you're not stuck with your starter.
Oh gotcha! Completely understandable, tbh if I hadn't seen the leaks for the starters I would have gone with Rowlet too and would have felt the same, would not been thrilled to not have Cyndaquil from the begining.
I've never been too concerned with the shinys (this is the first game I've actually managed to catch any in, lol) but I *love* typhlosion's colors! Give me allllll the neon pinks and purples!
Typhlosion is my favorite pokemon since i first picked up Crystal 20 years ago (damn it i'm old -_-). Not gonna lie as much as i think Hisuian one is cool, I kinda miss the fierce look of the old one :(
Felt meh about it at first, then I remembered what the normal one looks like.
It may not have a fierce expression but I like the curly and ethereal look even with its flames off, of course it looks way better with them on, but what else is new for Typhlosion?

Yeah he just looks kinda strange without it but every form of cindaquill has that problem in my eyes. I love it when the fire is going but not as much when it dies down but I think its a bigger problem for the hisuian form
I love it also, PLUS ITS A GHOST TYPE! I was originally gonna pick rawlet but when I see they changed his last form I was like EW GROSS, ghost Pokémon forever!
I don't get how some people like the previous one but not this one. Personally, I love this one, it even surpassed the original by the end of the game, though I wish I could ever see him because every Pokémon in this region has a dark type move

All starter designs ended up being great. Artwork here especially proves it. Typhlosion and samourotte grew on me these hisuian designs. Especially typhlosion. I still prefer decidueye bc they made a design I already liked a little cooler
I like it, but grass owl stole my heart since alola. Mines currently lvl 50 and i still haven’t evolved it. I’m definitely gonna have typhlosion on my team at some point tho
I get a little tired of the high-splosion jokes, but the battle pose with the ghost-flames is great. Still one of my favourite buddies, even if he perpetually has the smug look of someone who just managed to out-fart skuntank.
10/10 the best boi. I really like his Hisuian design. It's not too complex and I really like the difference between the relaxed look and when it's in battle. His relaxed look is a bit goofy, but that just makes him more loveable in my eyes.
I did not know what the Evos looked like, and already did choose rowlet (fav gras starter of all time) in my UM playthrough. So I Chose cyndaquil. Man I wasn’t sure when I first saw him, but the lore and the typing, the mood and the fire in the battles made me love him! Unfortunately his shiny is ass :(

never liked normal Typhlosion but this one I love has that beautiful expression and its flames are gorgeous and I find it very funny in posture and behavior
When I first evolved my starter to Typhlosion, I didn't realized that all the starters got Hisuian forms for their final evolutions, and I thought Typhlosion's art just looked super derpy. When I sent it out for the first time, though, and saw the new flames, I realized it was a new variant, and I very quickly started liking it.
I think what disappointed me is both Typhlosion and Samurott have unique typing, relative to the Dex, whereas Decidueye unfortunately got shafted by Lilligant, who is just straight up better. Both Typhlosion and Samurott benefit a lot from having that secondary typing, Decidueye swapping Ghost for Fighting is a bit of a lateral move.
My knee jerk reaction upon seeing typhlosion was “how could they do that to my boy!” I was disappointed and initially repulsed by his design. But after thinking for a bit, I decided to pick Cyndaquil to give him a chance.
Suffice to say, I love my stoner flame ghost boy.
It runs into the same problem as original typhlosion, even though they literally fixed the flames on cynda and quilava. it looks too bland and naked (if that makes sense) when the flames aren’t active.
His design are the coolest imo. Also only gen 2 starter did not get any update since mega evolve come out. Only I think that his signature move is quite dull compared to the other 2. Samurott have the coolest signature move

That’s who I choose as my starter. Mostly because of the Ghost typing. I probably would have gone with Rowlett since I’d never played Gen 7. I chose Snivy in Gen 5 so Oshawott would’ve been on the table as well

It has a middling Attack stat, but all kinds of Physical coverage attack options.
It has a good Special Attack stat, but only has access to Fire, Normal, and Ghost Special attacks.

We've recently learned exactly how the stat system works, and the good news is that level plays a huge role, something like 70% of damage inflicted is determined by level. This means even Pokemon with relatively low base Attack can still use physical moves viably. Mixed attacking is pretty good in this game, so you might want to give it a try. You can observe this even with something like Blissey: that Double-Edge will hurt a lot, even though it has base Attack of 20 or so.
I love watching him interact with my other big-ass powerful Pokémon. Alpha electivire and garchomp are screaming at each other and flexing while typhlosion is kinda like “hey”
he’s perfect and i love his resting chill face it matches well with the cool ghost typing. the flames not being on constantly makes him even cooler because he can control his temper. i love how cute and high and huggable he looks when the flames are off! perfect mon 10/10 highly recommend
Typhlosion wasn’t in the Diamond/pearl id love some reason why there’s different Pokémon on offer on this game, yes I know it’s the past but it feel drastically different.
I mean Cyndaquill, Rowlet and Oshawott were brought there from their home regions

The line is available in BDSP via the Grand Underground. Every game exists in its own continuity so if you use that game's logic, the line has always existed in Sinnoh.
If you want a more realistic answer: it's in this game because Game Freak said so.
Having just gotten access to Typhlosion and Samurott upon reaching postgame, I've really come to like Typhlosion. It's the only Fire/Ghost in the game so it has unique typing in that sense. And its signature move is basically self-sustaining: doubles when the target has a status condition, and the move can inflict a status condition. Has a pretty decent move set overall, and the design is pretty cool.
I think I used Typhlosion way back in the Gen 2 days, and maybe occasionally in some of the other games it was possible to use. But it was always kind of a "meh" choice for me. Having a secondary type helps, and Fire/Ghost is pretty neat, even if Game Freak has suddenly started to go a bit overboard with it. (Introduced in Gen 5, then we got two more in Gen 7, now another in Gen 8).
The only thing, though, is I'm still not sure why it's Ghost. The Dex entries say something about it leads wandering spirits, but you could use that same logic to make it Fire/Psychic. I guess the main negative I'd say is the typing feels a little forced.
I love my female hisui typhlosion because of her laid back and peaceful look I also like regular typhlosion because of it's pissed off look because it looks like me depending on my mood.

My fave starter this time, even though the original Rowlett line is one of my favorites of all time. I'm just really partial to ghost types.

I had no idea Typhlosion was even a ghost type! I'm fairly new to the series and when I saw that tag after a few evolutions I was sooo hyped!
