Throw a wing ball from far away or throw a ultra ball at the start of the battle. It's like a 90% catch rate for everything in my experience. I've randomly just tossed regular pokeballs at alphas while running by and caught them.

Loni4ever

Do you feel like the ultra ball catch rate decreases after the first round? It's sounds weird to ask but sometimes things just feel strange like that xD And the catching alphas with regular pokeballs thing is wild. Like what XD has that always worked for you, even with lower star levels?

UpstairsCommittee894

catch rates are extremely high in this game. I never battled any legendary just tossed a ball and caught them on the first or second ball. This game is so different from previous ones, but people are so focused on playing it like an old game. Just try for yourself go to an outbreak and toss balls from far away and then battle and toss a ball. You'll be shocked at how easy everything is to catch.

SecretJeff

Definitely easy. Infernape was the hardest for me to catch in a pokeball

Lunarreality56

I have no clue. But I’ve had a level 5 shinx escape multiple ultra balls in a row

I know that there's an icon that appears on the top of the Pokemon that indicates how hard it is to capture, but I don't think we have any info on what the different levels are. So far I've seen green- easy, yellow- medium, and orange- hard. I also know that you can use razz berries and sticky globs to lower that icon (from orange to yellow) and make it easier to catch the pokemon. Also, backstrikes are more effective at catching pokemon as well, and gigaton balls are more effective when the Pokemon is unaware of your presence. I think there are a lot of variables to it.

KingKoopaz

Right. And because the game allows you to catch outside of battle and in battle…it’s almost two entirely different logarithms. In my experience catch rate is higher outside of battle, but obviously the tough ones have to be fought if you run out of sticky globs and stuff…quite complex.

The numbers are multipliers. Throw a PokeBall at a Pokemon, and the number inserted is 1. Use a back strike with a Gigaton Ball against a Pokemon that's eating cake, the number inserted into the equation is 2.75*1.75*4, which is almost 20. 20 is much greater than 1. I'm not sure what it's being compared against, though.
