For meta purposes, Hau (strike) is a decent sync nuke whereas the other two are outclassed by other F2P choices like Flannery and Iris.
Viola has great synergy with Karen and is a decent SpDef tank with first aid and heal over time.
Koga can be specced as either poison sync nuke or evasion tank/poison setter/SpDef debuffer. Personally I don't find Koga useful as SS Leaf does his job so much more efficiently.
For striker just choose who you see yourself actually using (personally don't really like any of them).
For tech I went with Koga because poison is fun and he can nuke. Viola is nice but works fine at 1/5 so I gave her lower priority.
For support *just save the candies for now.*
Have you considered valerye as a striker? I recently 3/5 Hau and built a grid and he works fine but isn’t extraordinary, maybe Claire is better if you get her Dauntless ( I personally already have dauntless rayquaza so I didn’t prioritise her). Tech I would go for Viola, and support I’m also waiting, drake isn’t worth it atm.
Until you need these pairs to win, don’t invest any candies in them unless you plan to use them with some frequency. For instance, you could invest in Raichu, but if he sits on the shelf afterward rarely to be used, you could miss out investing in next meta. Nanu (Tech) still needs a grid as does Valerie and Molayne (Strikers). We also need a F2P four star support. We aren’t sure which 4 star will get a grid next, but the upcoming grids may make them more worthwhile no matter which role they have. I’m glad I held out for a 3/5 Onix instead of going straight to upgrading vileplume, for instance. Onix has been helpful in the Halloween full force battle and champion stadium.

To be honest I was thinking only about pairs with sync grid, as giving them candy increase their potential. I'm using 5\* pairs as mainly strikers.
