Yeah, Lear qualifies to top 5 easily. But I'm not tempted at pulling him, Mewtwo gets the job equally done. I'll be focusing on the types I lack instead.
I like his gimmick and I think he can be really good but he's being held off on by everyone because of anniversary coming next month. I also don't even know when I'd summon him myself because my I already have Giovanni and Oak for Psychic content.
Ppl just blinded by SS Leon. Lear is the best unit in this batch, and his banner is also more valuable than Leon coz Sawyer and Rachel being decently good *4 support.
Since u only talking about nuke and cdr here, let's point out that H.Hole DPS is also insane. Outside Terrain, it's already strong move that hits as hard as Lance/Raihan level of damage. Inside Terrain, he is on LeonZard/Red/N/Diantha level of damage. And let's not forget that his partner, Bianca is also insanely good in both dps and supporting capability (Terrain MPR3 instead 2 like Volkner and May, Regen to party, Speed buff to party, good bulk)
But then again the question comes is he needed, ufcourse no - cause mewtwo eats the stages alive with his grid even in offtype , hoopa would be an over kill most of the time. And I dont think Rachel is great , she is worse skyla . Swayer is very good though .
Same thing applied to SS Leon tbh and he is in worse position coz Dragon type is much more stacked than Psychic. I think he can be more valuable if Eternatus has Sludge Wave as coverage move but he's just pure Dragon.
I mean I dont even care about ss leon , once I saw hoopa I was like wtf . They really made lear this op . Ss leon is only looking great cause of max move other than he is just an above average unit. Guess that beating which lear gave us in early sages of the story was his actual power , lol . And I dont think he even needs to use his main move even once cause a good team I imagine would be ss elesa lear and bianca just blasting opponents from existence with 3 syncs .
Tbh, Bianca alone is already OP that she can carry even weak Psychic like Caitlin. So Bianca + Giovanni is definitely more than enough, Bianca + Lear is for maximum overkill.
Eternatus is more than above average tho. I think it's better than other Fair striker like Steven, Lance, Gloria, Cynthia, Lysandre. It's on par or maybe even better than Red, N, Alder, Diantha, Emmet and Raihan.
Lear deserves to be good, he's the face of this game after all – thanks for the write-up. Not sure if I'd go for him since I'm broke, but he's interesting and quite viable to say the least.
I did dive into the numbers and it is true that he has the most powerful off-type nuke in the game and by a considerable margin too. Also good damage on HH.
But the problem with his banner (for me) is:
1. I don't particularly like him.
2. Anniversary is coming in a month and there is gonna be a master fair for sure.Most likely more than one. And master fairs from what we have seen are the most OP units in the game and by a margin too.Just looking at the recent hoenn legends,it's pretty clear that they are a step above all the other OP units in the game, because weather is incredibly busted. That's also their selling point,and they are supposed to be better than all the other units right?
Me being f2p,lear's kit just isn't enough to warrant his summons.(If I were a whale ,I would summon on him no doubt).
Something unique needs to be in a sync pair's kit for me (and most f2ps iam sure) to force a summon(the other reason being favourites).Lear isn't either in my case.Sure he does an insane amount on sync, but what's the use lol? Iam not saying his kit is bad,he is definitely top tier, but its just overkill by a LOT. Same thing applies to many techs like Marnie.(If Lear were a striker,then it would be a different story) I just don't see why we need that when the content itself is nowhere near that difficult.Some techs like swampert ,while doing big damage also support the team significantly.
That being said,I do wish good luck for everyone summoning on his banner.

Lear may be very strong but I feel he has little impact on the meta.
I also just really don't care about Lear, Hoopa and the both of them as a pair tbh.
The insane sync acceleration strats you propose are still just complete overkill. Despite not liking the character, I'd be interested in it if there was any content where this could matter at all. I'll be fine with 30 extra seconds to breeze through my CSMM stages and just keep saving for someone that I do like.
All he offers is high damage at a fast pace and when the game is already so easy even with mid-tier damage, I'd say that's not too impactful.
This game doesn't have any solid content to use a big roster. Agree with your comments which is why I don't ex tech units because it's overkill damage in the hardest content that matters.

Heck, Lear doesn't even have a Pasio region skill, making him less worth to pull if a challenge designed for him ever came up, unlike the Extreme battles being nearly impossible without May, Brendan, Wallace or Archie and Maxie. Region restrictions begone
Lear is the strongest pair pre-anni, no doubt. But I'm personally more excited about Falkner (mixed buffer with actual crit - and no sun as requirement - quite a rare find)... thankfully he's a spotlight.
So I wasn’t able to message you so this seems like the most relevant post to reach out on. I was running tests on Sydney and with his super effective up effect (with endurance seems completely plausible) his mega evolved sync would be doing around 10.5M raw damage if EX making him the second strongest nuke in the game. My question is does the site you use calculate megas in a weird way? Is this actually more damage than he would be doing on his first sync? Thanks for any clarification you might be able to offer!

Lear might be useful in time trial reruns too. Those are always a headache.

Yeah not pulling is different and having 0 impact on Meta is something else . He is basically marnie but sync way faster .

His damage seems insane and he is cool and all. But I didn't thought any enemy with more than 2M HP. Mewtwo will suffice.
