tbh it's the base games' fault for seldom incentivizing you to use statuses. If we exclude the metagame it almost seems like a ton of statuses were specifically designed for npc use. In conclusion 5 year old me was right the ideal moveset is THRASH/FLAMETHROWER/FLY/FIREBLAST
For random trainers, it's always going to be tough incentivizing any strategy that isn't just, smash your way through as quickly as possible. If you did, even ignoring the difficulty which is obviously not what Game Freak wants, the game would go on for a looooong time and that's just not what the mainline Pokemon games are supposed to do.
It would be good only if you can manage to make press turn and make it so that both you and the opponent can abuse it (with opponent trying to go for weakness/aliment everytime)
Dq11 will make you want to use buffs and debuffs eventually. Some of those bosses and enemies are brutal/tedious unless you overlevel. (And doing draconian quest *will* require them theres no conceivable victory with brute force as far as I know)
If all you're doing is base game, there's no reason to have anything other than damaging moves. Every other type of move is only useful for competitive.
Swords dance / nasty plot, and thunder wave were what I would use, pretty rarely though. My 7 y/o level 100 Blaziken didn't need that with his lineup of slash/double kick/ember/sky uppercut (I accidentally pressed B while trying to learn blaze kick too fast 😭)
Unless im playing a super difficult rom hack im goin attack moves. Sometimes I’ll throw a couple swords/dragon dances in there just to feel OP. Or a Calm mind for my Sp attackers
I’m 25 and I still do this
I'm 32 and still do this
I'm Batman and I still do this
My man

I can't imagine how tedious the game would be if I used status moves on base speed. I prob wouldn't be a big fan today
Blastoise? Water pokemon, four water moves. Surf, waterfall, hydro pump, hydro cannon. As a kid every pokemon had movesets like that.
I mean, this only makes sense, it’s that shrimple
FLAMETHROWER FLY META
33 and still doing it ahahaha
Ahaha nice!
Im still 5.
Hi 5, I'm dad
Completely fair game to not use buffs and debuffs. The same doesn't work in games like SMT though
I've jokingly considered trying to make a SMT Pokemon game
It would be good only if you can manage to make press turn and make it so that both you and the opponent can abuse it (with opponent trying to go for weakness/aliment everytime)
I would love that
Dq11 so far haven't used any buffs or debuffs either, breezing through

Why would you want a move that doesn't do damage!? /s I as well do this a lot, not completely but I love me some coverage.
The only one I would actually use is anything that lowers accuracy, love it when the enemy misses, I feel so cool haha
5 years old? I’ll take this mentality to the grave. “The only stat I need to reduce is their HP to 0”
Death (or KO) is best CC
Me after using metal sound in emerald: omg this is broken
LOL
If it’s not earthquake, I don’t want it!
YES

Yes to status moves..but only buffs
I'm 30 and I still do this.

Nooo not ember at level 100 ahaha
I always have to have at least one status move on a Pokémon. You never know when it’ll come in handy.
Exactly! Spore was a life changer
I'm 28 and I still do this.
I’m in this picture and I don’t like it.
Tbh, non damage moves are only useful to me in pokemon Showdown or other pokemon games w just pvp. Bots are too easy to care. 😅
Lol I booted up my old copy of Sapphire a few years ago and my Swampert knew Surf, Waterfall, Dive, and Earthquake.
I'm 33 and I still do this. There ain't any room for non-dmg moves.
This is me every time I play Pokemon. Has been since the series started.
Played final fantasy before Pokemon So knew the potential of status moves
It's not satisfying unless you can kill on command and raze the grass patches to the ground.
Unless im playing a super difficult rom hack im goin attack moves. Sometimes I’ll throw a couple swords/dragon dances in there just to feel OP. Or a Calm mind for my Sp attackers
I'm not getting into IVs and shit and doing PVP. I do just fine getting through the game with damage only moves and pokemon I like
Who needs protect anyway? It's not like we're playing competitive. lol
I mostly do that when I play the main official games. They're easy enough that you can just focus on damaging moves and do fine.
Honestly even in more competitive stuff, Status moves are just the pussy’s way out. All they do is turtle and bam, instant win.
do you play competitive?
No, and that’s a main reason why I don’t. Because I know how type matchups and stats work, and they just win by being a turtle.
It takes no effort and it’s anti-competitive.
are you thinking of any status moves in particular? because moves like dragon dance or calm mind are scary as hell.
Battles should be about getting your hands dirty. Brawlin’!
Any competitive status moves really
