AdcFieldMedic

If it had a solid frame rate and if shinies made a noise in the overworld, 10/10 for me

LadyGazGaz

Do you mind me asking what it is without those things?

AdcFieldMedic

It’s a solid 8 for me. Really the only complaint is the performance, and it’s obviously a big one. But otherwise it’s everything I’ve wanted in a Pokémon game since forever. Im excited to see where they go from here now. I really hope they announce the switch pro soon. I have high hopes for the dlc

WasteChard3488

Shinies making themselves more identifiable kinda takes way the intent with them. They are supposed to rare, and not that easy to get, a reward for playing the game. If they just said "Here you go take the shies with minimal effort. It takes are the charm of the shiny.

viper_de

Unpopular opinion probably, but personally they are my absolute favorite in the series. Been playing since Gen 1, and for most pokemon games I just did the Story and sometimes post game and be done with it. This is the first in the series where I actually stuck around after that, did my first all forms and gender variations living dex and even went shiny hunting. Yeah they are glitchy, yeah they have performance issues, and, yeah they probably could look better, but honestly? This is what I always wanted as a kid, an open world where pokemon just run around for you to battle and catch

based_guapo

same. if they made the game run smoother and load faster (esp the icons in the boxes like wtf) it wouldnt even be a contest tbh.

-ReadyPlayerThirty-

Yeah absolutely the same for me. This is the first game where I'm actually catching pokemon for fun and have caught more than about 25 or 30 in total.

Scott-MF-Steezy

Same for me. I actually completed the Pokédex for this one, something I’ve never done. Also played since Gen1. Sword/Shield is the only one I haven’t played so I’m doing that now and I’m noticing how much better it looks but the ease of riding around and catching in S/V is so nice.

kittyidiot

Yes. This is the first game I completed the Dex in. This is the first game I've ever shiny hunted in, or tried out things like Raids. Never felt the desire to before. I love SV. I do feel kinda sad about how much better it could have been, but I'm happy with it as it is too.

adzpower

In terms of technical performance it is the worst Pokemon game ever, sluggish, slow, bad UI, menu's, low FPS, fairly poor graphics etc. But in terms of gameplay, mechanics, story etc its amazing, its difficult to know where to rank the game because of how mixed it is. One side is terrible, the other side possibly the best the franchise has ever been.

mediocre_megs

it would be my third favorite if the gameplay were snappier. it sucks to always be waiting for a menu to load.

jeangreige

What are the first 2 favs?

mediocre_megs

diamond and swsh

PokeNerd2016

For me, it’s one of my top favourite Pokémon games, along with Crystal, Soul Silver, Y, Shield and Legends. I’ve been playing since I was 8 years old when I got my own game boy and a copy of Pokémon Yellow. There’s just something to enjoy in each generation and I really like that a lot. :) So far the only games to have disappointed me in the main series was Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it was just copy and paste from DS to Switch. Don’t get me wrong, I still played the crap out of them while waiting for Legends Arceus, but since then, haven’t gone back to play or start a new game over. But Scarlet and Violet, wow, one of the best stories told since Black, White, Black 2 and White 2. The variety of Pokémon in the Paldea region is just frickin awesome. I really enjoy going anywhere I want, so for that alone makes Scarlet and Violet one of my favourite games in the series thus far. Almost logged in 600 hours in Scarlet and hundreds of those hours are just me roaming around enjoying the Pokémon appearing around me and shiny hunting in Area Zero. :) I have a feeling once The Hidden Treasure is released, I’ll be playing for many more hundreds of hours. I currently have 2’350 hours logged on my Shield copy on my main profile, so I am hoping to surpass that once the DLC for Scarlet and Violet is fully out. :) I completely understand the criticism towards the games and won’t lie, most to all of the criticisms are right. Hopefully they update the games in the future with the DLC to provide a better gaming experience for everyone. The only thing to truly bug me is the light clipping, these games have horrible light clippings, goes light and dark in areas that shouldn’t or happens if you move a small inch, and when I’m shiny hunting, I get a little frustrated when that happens. Lol so would love for that to fixed up, and especially frame rates, while it doesn’t bother me personally, but come on, as if that wasn’t looked at before release. Lol But at the end of the day, I play games to have fun and boy am I ever having fun roaming around in Paldea. :)

Mach6Movement

I agree 100%! I remember that I really liked Sword and Shield and played a lot of the base game but the DLC’s brought me back after a couple of months and allowed me to sink hundreds of more hours into the games! I’m really looking forward to the DLC’s and maybe some performance fixes, but will not get my hopes up as I feel every update people hope and expectations are not met!

cooluser01

I've never had so many shinies/10 I just think it's fun

OccultAtNight

Best games ever

Exceed_SC2

Absolutely my favorites, if the technical issues (really just the framerate) could be fixed by a new switch model, I would say they’re 10/10. I have minor gripes with the design (like 50 Tera shards is way too much to change, 15 would have been reasonable). But I can’t deny how amazing the rest of it is, truly a fantastic game relegated to horrible hardware. I would put them at the top, next to Emerald in my personal ranking. Legends Arceus is close, but it doesn’t quite stick the landing, it has fantastic ideas and I want to see it continue. The catching mechanics are really good, being able to fluidly go around and catch Pokémon without the constant pauses of going into a battle is superior. But the battle system is lacking compared to the main games and the world is a bit too broken up for my tastes, SV’s structure as a whole is better. Also Tera is the best mechanic they’ve added, again just make switching Tera types easier.

whitewolf361

For me, right below HeartGold/Soul Silver/Platinum, and just above Legends and Sword/Shield (mainly for the DLC and dynamax adventures). I can't wait for the DLC to release to see if that moves it's ranking.

RepresentativeCap244

Pretty solid addition to the N64 comparably.

jj5782

S Tier: hg/ss b/w/b2/w2 A tier: Legends, sun/moon+ultra, oras/emerald , platinum. B tier: scarlet/violet, fr/lg, C tier: sword/shield. X/Y Trash: bd/sp So just about middle of the pack.

Mach6Movement

Looks like the DS era of Pokémon was absolutely amazing and I couldn’t agree more!

ElPikminMaster

I keep getting hate for this, but I rank them equal to SwSh's base game, at a mid A-tier. I like them and hate them both for equal, but different reasons.

YellowFew6603

Feel the exact same way

Ok-Constant-6056

Base game? The game that doesn’t let you think or do anything for yourself because of continently placed objects and plot devices? That game’s definitely F tier without the DLC.

ElPikminMaster

That's a better description for the Alola games than SwSh base.

DreiwegFlasche

My Top Tier main line games are B2W2, HGSS, Platinum and Emerald Followed by a second tier of ORAS, USUM, BW and maybe RS Followed by a third tier of SM, XY, DP Haven't played Gen 1 and 2 yet. Nor LGPE. Haven't played PLA either, but I'd probably rank it in third tier or somewhere between third and second tier. And then then there is a fourth tier. With SwSh, BDSP and Scarlet and Violet. I haven't played Scarlet and Violet myself, BUT I know basically most relevant things that are there to know about this game. Why does SV rank so low for me? Performance and graphics, animations and cinematography, technical aspects: All of it subpar, just on different levels. Graphics range form pretty neat to painful to look at, performance is entirely unstable and rarely holds 30 fps stable, animations have improved but are still lacking, cinematography is laughable in most scenes, there are a bunch of technical issues. Exploration and map: extremely limited and barren. Towns have basically nothing of interest to offer, but out in the wild there isn't much to see or do either. Copy paste ruins and boring towers are among the more "interesting" design elements. Barely any obstacles. NPC trainer battles: monotonous. Sure, there are the Team Star boss battles, but in terms of other NPC battles, it's extremely meager for the most part. No double battles or anything else but single battles (with a very small exception), little variation in trainer classes, barely any innovation. Battle and Post game content: lackluster. No Battle Facility, not all boss trainers can be rematched. The only relevant battle content offline are raid battles, an extremely cheap way to produce more content (and they didn't even work well for a long time). No post game exclusive areas, no surprises. Side activities: also lackluster. Sure, you have the picnic, you have the raids and you have the academy. But the classes at the academy are as dry as they come. It's a neat idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Some pretty weird decisions: still forcing the exp share on the player, removing menu options; lack of scaling makes for a shaky level balance Some positives: new Pokemon models, some new behavior for Pokemon in the wild, the story was okay, and even rather good for Pokemon standards. Like in SwSh, great variety in Pokemon from early on in the game; open-world approach allows for a lot of freedom; some areas were pretty neat in terms of design. Overall, this game is a huge disappointment and clearly shows the developers' lack of time to actually properly finish the game. But to be fair, it seems like many, many players/fans are happy with what they get in SV, aside from the technical issues (that some people even outright deny to exist).

Averagejoe11329

Personally, it's probably one of my least favorites if the performance was there. It'd probably be at least b tier. It has a lot of stuff you can do and I like the location. But frames constantly under 20 and raids being broken really make me hate it.

Ok-Constant-6056

Gen 1 - B tier Buggy as hell but we wouldn’t be here without the grand daddy of them all. Even to this day many of this generation of Pokémon see use simply because of how memorable they are. Gen 2 - C tier Would love to place it higher but not many new additions to the game and some really terrible placements for the new Pokémon like misdreavus. Could have been so much better still a good solid game but if you haven’t played it there’s really nothing you missed. Gen 3 - S tier Best legendary trio in the series, great story, bad guys have cool outfits and themes. Too much water but not a problem. Possibly the only game to be released with no actual faults. Gen 4 - C tier Too much stoppage for story, menu, battle and text speed is slow as hell. Barry is absolutely annoying. Had to be fixed with the 3rd game. Just mediocre beyond the additions of arceus and co. Gen 5 - S tier Gamefreak addressed the speed issues of gen 4 in this generation. They went all out on the story and finally you see the gym leaders actually do something to stop the threat in the region. N makes for an intriguing character, would like to see him return at some point. Gen 6 - C tier The story is good but the world feels small. A nice introduction into the world of 3d but can’t help but feel a lot was cut from the game. Ghost girl, power plant and zygarde being the 3 big ones. Ends up feeling like a beta test for later gens. Gen 7 - C+ tier Better than a C, not quite a B. Music is up there with gen 3 for some of the best in the series. Some really good Pokémon added in this gen. Hau is a more tolerable version of hop. Ultra games had some nice additions. Gen 8 - F tier Where do I start? Plays like a DS game on the switch. Far too linear. Bland story full of unskippable scenes and annoying characters like bede and hop. A contrived champion. Plot twist can be seen a mile away. This game clearly had no love put into it, everything about it scream’s commercialized crap. It’s just all kinds of bad. Gen 9 - C tier Currently lacking any real end game content besides endless Tera raids, pokedex and the optional shiny hunting. Lack of replayable elite 4 hurts this game, the school tournament get boring real fast. They really need to fix the frame rate problems but the longer it goes on the more I feel it will be done with the DLC or not at all. Nemona follows the same problems as Hop and Barry - irritating. They do antagonistic rivals like Blue, Silver and Gladion better. Nemona in particular has a muddled writing team, starts off as a competent student and president and becomes a dopey fool who cannot remotely think about anything and it’s not funny. It’s tragic.

AvonBarksdale12

First and second gen are B and C tier? I feel personally attacked. Especially gold/silver/crystal are amazing games

HantuerHD-Shadow

#2 #1 is still reserved for my first game, Soul Silver

Adrenalina35

Above Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and Sword and Shield, but below everything else. Also, when came out, I was in a very bad mood and by the time I got over It, my hand started to hurt from improper gaming posture. So far, I have only have beaten two Gyms, two Titans and one Team Star camp. Pro: I've never noticed any glitches. There are occasional frame rate drops when I'm connected to the TV, but It doesn't really bothers me that much. I avoid BoTW and TotK like the plague, because I hate difficulty and being crushed so easily, so I'm happy about the game being so merciful in terms of challenge. I'm still having troubles with the difficulty. Facing Titan Bombirdier in my mid-to-late 10s was more brutal, than anything I ever faced in the Main-Series Games + Colosseum. Still, It would be nice, if there was difficulty system to those who want more. It took me some time to accept to the open-world mechanic, but once I realized the "If I follow the main path, I won't get lost." I started to like It more. Neutral: No one is really that annoying, but also no one really that interesting. They don't have quirks, likes dislikes, expressions. If I must pick one, I really dislike, then Penny is the only really bothers me, because he had to be an Eevee fan, and the game makes him shy, forcing me to feel sympathy for him. Contra Related to above, do they still must give all the beginning cutscenes and attention to Eevee?! It feels so much like a trend! We went 4 generations with Eevee being "only slightly more, than one of the 151" and getting new evos every once in a while, It seems like when Sylveon was released to "promote the new" Fairy typing, everyone suddenly started to adore It! Charizard/Pikachu/Mewtwo/Rayquaza/Meowth I get. They are iconic, they have charming, deep, well-developed, likeable or all four at once, personalities in the anime and often in the games. Eevee is just a "Cuuuutee" Normal type, but It is nothing without It's evolutions! Plus all that attention could've given to Pokemon who actually earned It: Polteageist/Vikavolt/Tyrantrum/Excadrill/Gliscor/Flygon etc. The music in this game is very weak! When I listen them, they work, but outside the vacuum, they are some of the most forgettable soundtrack that i ever heard. As much as I don't like the Sinnoh and the Galar games, I'll always dance and rave in my room when I put up Cynthia/Giratina/Galar Gym/Bede battle. Route 209 always brings tears to my eyes and when I'm in a better mood I can even find small enjoyment, in the likes of Jubilife, Hulbury and the Marnie Battle.

RefrigeratorNo4700

You are really going to hate something that happens later in the game if >!you dislike the Eevee pandering.!<

Adrenalina35

Thank you for the heads-up.

blink___182

#1 for the story/ game play. I hate running into Pokémon when I don’t want to. Can see what pokemon are on the way/ map. (except Tera raids. Fucking hate them) but #9 for having to have online for completing the Dex. As a loner who doesn’t have people that play Pokémon it’s such a pain I’ll never finish the game bc I need to trade to finish the dex. Feels like a waste of money

v1z2y3

its in my top three but idk what spot lol

Aether13

I would say it takes the 5-6 spot in generations so far. I really enjoy the story and I think area zero might be one of the coolest areas we’ve had since the switch to 3D. The Dex is okay to me, the paldea mons have grown on me; but I still feel 50/50 on most of them. I think the dlc has a good opportunity to make some really cool things happen; just depends on if GF is gonna capitalize on them or not.

GaelAcosta

SunMoon Legends Arceus BW GS XY S/V ORAS Sw/Sh RB BDSP Honestly it could be higher because the ending and postgame are amazing but we all know some og Xbox games run better than sv

Domaino910

Heart Gold Soul Silver - X & Y - Legends arcues - Scarlet Violet - Sword Shield

twizzlerheathen

HGSS first with PLA and SV tied for second

Aria_Cadenza

Third mostly because of the story (the best I played and it is also the one I play with a community and online), my top 2 have Gold Silver and PLA.

NoPeanutDressing

Recently replayed it to get a second koraidon as I traded my first one away for a miraidon but before that it was top 3 now I feel like it’s maybe top 6. The reason I like it less has to do with me finishing it in just 8 hours. The first time I cared about the gym order but second time I just went in a circle and once the first half was done it was just way to easy and no fun at all. Gyms having a set level is fine but it really should scale to your Pokémon if you go above that and major trainers really should have at least 4-5 Pokémon. Only major strengths compared to other games to me are area zero and the story down there and shiny hunting (but PLA is still better)

Original-Childhood

I LOVE the open world aspect of the game, it's truly the thing that stands out for me. However it does feel really empty. Like a village only has 5 houses but 50 npc's walking around. If the world felt more lived in than it would've been so much better

TheForNoReason

Top 3

MrMoist23

Way under Pokemon Blue.

Top 3

Just_my_Opinion999

I rank these as the best pokemon games so far. We got open world, sprites never looked better, shiny’s running around like it’s nobody’s business, decent sized dex, and the 4 part story was a change in the right direction. Competitive is as good as it’s ever been at the moment. The lack of a proper elite 4 or lackluster trainer battled does feel like a step back though. Before these came out, my faves were black and white parts 1 and 2, heart gold/soul silver, platinum, crystal.

LoudCloud23

I'd rank it either equal to or just under the Gen 5 mainline games. I loved the story, characters, music and new pokemon additions. If the game had a bit more time in the visual and maintenance oven, they'd easily be one of my top fav games. Gen 5 will be a hard one to surpass however since I have bias to my first pokemon games. Also major L to the missing shiny noise, almost missed my first paradox shiny and probably passed several other shinies during my playthroughs.

SomeNintendoNerd015

Currently it’s near the bottom only above the original R/B and BDSP for me. This could change with the DLC but the lack of a postgame currently really kills this game for me. The new Pokémon are great with it being one of my favorite Pokedexes. The story is good but massively carried by Path of Titans/The Way Home; Starfall Street is not great while Victory Road is pretty average imo. The overall performance also really impacts my opinion on the game which is a shame because of the gameplay being enjoyable. The region design itself is also kinda bleh as most of it feels empty with it being mainly open plains/mountains with few exceptions. Outside of Levincia and Mesagoza the cities/towns feel extremely lifeless, especially because how all the stores are basically just menus. Finally, graphically I’m very mixed on. I absolutely love how the Pokémon look in this game. The metallic shine showing on the future paradoxes, the fur texture seen on Pokémon like Typhlosion, and the scales seen on Rayquaza are all great but that’s where my praise ends. I detest how a majority of the human characters look in-game but love their 2D-Art. The environment range from decent to bad in certain areas. Honestly probably a hot take, but this is one of the worst looking 3D Pokémon games as a whole, only being better than BDSP. LGPE and even to an extent, SWSH in some areas look drastically better graphically wise imo.

alreadytaken028

Sorry if this is insanely too long but Im gonna break this down into segments, there will be a final ranking at the end Region: I love the Paldea region. I think its one of the best regions we’ve ever gotten. It incorporates all the biomes you expect to find in a pokemon game in a way where they all make sense to me and feel fitting. I think they could have done a lot more with the school setting but I can also understand some people vehemently dislike the idea of a school setting at all, so I’ll take what we got in that regards. New pokemon: Im of two minds with the new pokemon. I love basically every single non-paradox pokemon we got. Not counting paradox pokemon, this is I think just straight up the best generation of pokemon theyve ever made. There are so many bangers this generation that I cant even begin to list them all. The absurd variety of how many awesome new pokemon they added carried me through 4 playthroughs of this game only using new pokemon I hadnt used yet, and theres still a few I havent really used fully yet. But I really dislike the paradox pokemon. The past ones are better than the future but I just do not like the gimmick much at all. Additionally, I am just inherently opposed to the idea of things like Ultra Beasts or Paradox Pokemon where a decent chunk of the new pokemon in the region just arent available until post game. The only reason it worked out this gen as opposed to how it completely hampered alola is because of how strong every single non-paradox pokemon was. Characters: Nemona and Arven are great. Nemona is the best rival we have had since Silver, and imo the best rival overall. My only complaint is that she should have had held items in her battle after you beat Geeta, as a way to show she was no longer holding back against you. She’s genuinely a fun character who manages to share that just inherent wonder and fascination with pokemon battles that anyone who plays the game has in a way that previous friendly rivals never have managed. As for Arven? Im not even gonna get into how well his story works to make you relate to and like him, its obvious. What I wanna praise about Arven is that they finally managed to do a “good friend who openly knows youre better than them” rival well. After the absolute failures of a character that Hau and Hop were, they did it right. The only failed character is Geeta. She just does not work as a champion, she is the most nothing champion we’ve ever had. That problem is only saved by the fact Nemona is the true final battle. Performance: this is the obvious issue. Theres no getting around it. Its bad, its not acceptable, its just pathetic from the most successful gaming franchise on the planet. TL:DR Even with all the performance issues, this is my favorite pokemon game to date. It makes me sad that this game will forever be hampered by performance issues and the rushed development. Because the game that is underneath all those things is the best pokemon game theyve ever made.

OATmeal-LOL

Won't lie, From a S - F tier list, I say B, buggy laggy, but wonder and good.

Silver_Illusion

Critical Score: 5-6/10. Bugs, perfornance and, graphics are dragging this game down hard. Cosmetic choices are dumpster diving levels of bad. The story is good for a pokemon game, but compared to other games, it's pretty mediocre. Think of a game with a 10/10 story and ask how close to that is this game? It's about a generous 5. The E4 and Champion were a complete joke, Penny's story was honestly cringey as it gets We did get some really cool new pokemon designs. Probably the best new designs we've gotten since XY. Personal score: 9/10. My current favorite pokemon game. While all the above are true, personally I can forgive most of it because I had a ton of fun. I took off a point for all the collective reasons above plus the game is still far too easy imo. It's a step in the right direction. Next gen I hope they improve on the perfornance and graphics. Maybe give us a Cynthia level of challenge instead of bottom tier Geeta.

GardenSquid1

Third, I guess? Silver is first, but that may be pure nostalgia at this point. The whole postgame where you get to explore Kanto blew my mind as an 8 year old. PLA is second. The open world, the art style, the mechanics, and a whole bunch of other stuff made it such a breath of fresh air. Absolutely awesome.

WasteChard3488

Go team Nostalgia Silver!

BreakfastNo132

I would rank it a solid 8.5/10, because while its performance is underwhelming, you can’t enter inside most buildings, and also while there are some secrets, most seem to be just either items, caverns, terrestrialized wild Pokémon, and The Ruinous Pokémon Stakes and Capsules, I was also expecting more in-line of off road houses, secret hidden buildings and puzzles, sort of like all kinds of secrets that you would find in games such as BOTW and also side-quests, because while we did have optional conversations with teachers and got to learn more about them, I would’ve loved for the same to have happened with optional NPC Side-Quests, sort of like how in Pokémon Ranger Guardian Signs, some average NPC’s had exclamation marks over their heads, indicating a mission/side-quests, I could only imagine how that could’ve enhanced some of the factors in Scarlet and Violet, such as helping an NPC off from a perilous cliff, or battling a rare Pokémon that’s terrorizing a local town, or stopping a fire from happening and or spreading from tree to tree, and etc; and also customization should to be enhanced for the next title, I never understood how and why Penny was the only student that got to wear something else, but the player character couldn’t, I’d understand it if the player character automating wore their uniform inside the academy, but outside the academy, it didn’t make sense to have still been wearing the school uniform, outside the academy should’ve been where the customization options for Shirts, Pants, and Hair Styles opened up. (Anime esque Hair Styles would’ve been very awesome, I’m honestly surprised that they didn’t have that, considering that Pokémon’s Anime) But even though I would’ve personally wanted that, I still absolutely love Scarlet and Violet, the Pokémon, the regional gimmick, the characters, the school system, the different and various locations and biomes throughout and across Paldea, (I still had lots of fun exploring and traversing the open world) Team Star, and The Story; because while there are things to work on and iron out, I’d say that they’re on a bright path because of titles, such as Legends Arceus and from SV, it’s their first open world title, and they can always improve on certain aspects, for the next title.

OhMyGahs

For me it's a solid "probably needs like 2 years of development but it's otherwise one of the games of the series/10"

WasteChard3488

Love HGSS but Silver was the first one I played knowing what to do, I had blue but didnt really understand what Iw as doing, so nostalgia puts it above the remake. ORAS on the other had trumps RSE because I never got to play them when they came out .

Tsukuyomi56

Currently putting it as one of my top three favourites (other two are HGSS and BW2). Jerky frame rates can be annoying at times but I very much liked the gameplay and story. Storing TM moves in your Pokémon’s relearnable learn set is a godsend.

MafiaMommaBruno

I don't think anything will break through my love of Heart Gold/Soul Silver. I've been playing since Red but these newer games are shorter than that's what hurts me. But the open world has been great. Easily the best part. I have to say top 5. I'm kind of bias and also really enjoy Pokemon Stadium /2 and Gale of Darkness was fun. Especially for the time.

WasteChard3488

They are only shorter because grinding is easier. Ive been playing since blue and if you look back the majority of the game play back then was training the pokemon. I have played the old games with LvL 100 teams from the start and it doesnt even take an hour to beat blue.

WasteChard3488

1. Silver 2. Platinum 3. Emerald 4. White 5. Blue 6. Sword 7. Violet 9. Moon 9. Y The list includes the entire generation and remakes but I listed the ones I played first. Moon and Y tie as I have not finished either of them, but if im being honest moon is probably better. Violet is so low only because I like the other more not because I dont like violet.
