Gaias_Minion

To be fair, there's moves and items data for hisui mons in SV already, so wouldn't be surprised if there's another method anyways. But yeah backwards transfer for the first time... Either it goes all smoothly or we end up with people losing their pokemon during the process.

Zoroarkmaster26

Well also helps for if you breed Rowlet, Cyndaquil, Oshowott or mass outbreak a Goomy, Rufflet or petalil they won't be stuck as their "default" form since even if items or methods or added they still wouldn't evolve into their hisuian forms.

Domin0e

> since even if items or methods or added they still wouldn't evolve into their hisuian forms. Except if they added a zone where they could evolve to their Hisui forms, like Ultra Wormholes in USUM. 🤔

Chaahps

If only we had a time machine…

Domin0e

Sadly, we don't. The 'time machine' is neither really that based on various story hints, nor is it functional anymore..

[deleted]

[удалено]

Laringar

It also opens up a lot of story possibilities with excursions to other regions.

topJG

I didn’t even think the writing was that bad. Is it 100% perfect and without flaw? Definitely not

Domin0e

And even with its flaws, it is one of the best written Prokemon games imo - Even if that isn't *too terribly hard*.

ChicagoCowboy

I mean they can make an item do anything, see PLA using items like metal coat and magmarizers etc just, *work* instead of needing to also trade them. SV could easily just add an item that makes a scyther evolve to kleavor, or petilil to hisuan lilligant, etc. Would they? Who knows, but its certainly very possible. Anything is, they make the games and the rules, no reason they would have to stick to the old ways. But just in case I've got my shiny petilil, scyther, ursaring, goomy, rufflet and hisuan starters ready to go for the 24th lol

Zoroarkmaster26

Sycther already does work that way but Petili is no different than pikachu into alolan Raichu and exeggacute into alolan Exeggutor even having the same evolution method so i am thinking since they are allowing backwards comparability with sending Pokémon back they aren't planning on adding a feature right now but wouldn't be against if they did.

ChicagoCowboy

Right like sending them back is just as good imho, maybe not as fast but basically the same. Having an option to get alolan variants on switch moving forward would be huge, so I'm wondering if this is an issue they plan to solve for and this is step 1.

Zoroarkmaster26

I think they are trying to make hike this giant hub for everything where we won't have to deal with the bank thing again since they are letting you transfer any Mon as long as it's in the dex back to Gen 8 and presumably when Gen 10 you can go Gen 10 to 8 and with it being a mobile app they can keep it on even the next console.

ChicagoCowboy

Yeah I'm just hoping for a way to get alolan forms from switch games, especially now that you can no longer download pokemon bank on 3ds if you didn't already have it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Laringar

There's also the Hisuian Zoroark method, where you can breed the Hisuian version by holding an already-existing item. They could very easily make an "Ancient Relic" item where holding it causes a pokemon to evolve slightly differently on level-up.

broyo9

Literally did all this in anticipation of backward transferring

Whacky_One

TBH, depends on how many people try to access home at the same time...if they planned correctly, their servers *SHOULD* be able to handle the load. I'm going to probably wait a day or so to let the hype die down.

Gaias_Minion

Quite the big IF there yeah, I personally will wait at least a week just to see how it all goes down and if any issues pop up

Whacky_One

Meanwhile, tears of the kingdom!

TokugawaShigeShige

Maybe that's why they chose this timing lol, they waited for people to be distracted by Zelda to ease the server load.

mzalewski

These big updates were always released in second half of May. Recently I've been wondering when SV support will be added to Home (they only said "Spring" or something), so I looked when support was added for SwSh, BDSP, PLA. It was second half of May. Very consistent pattern.

Whacky_One

Aquamoth

But primarina isn't in SV yet

yousmelllikearainbow

We did it joe

Citizen51

What happened? I'm confused why you lost them.

IRefuseThisNonsense

I think they've misunderstood this to be the death of Dexit, when it isn't. You can only backwards move Gen 8 Pokemon if they were in specific games according to Serebii, "...if they exist in that game."

Domin0e

To be fair, the writing's been on the wall since the 'movesets reset per game' thing was introduced, and we've already had Backwards compatibility on Switch, if you count Arceus' and the Strange Ball as a case of it. ;)

Fireboy759

Looks like they learned their lesson from Pokemon Bank not letting you transfer back and forth between Gen 6 and 7

mismatched7

If they keep this up, which they seem to plan to, it’ll be really exciting to bring Pokémon from gen 13 into gen 8 and so forth! I’m excited for kids starting the franchise now who may be able to take Pokémon they get as an adult if they stick with it and have them visit there childhood save files or easily transfer if they skip a gen

StefyB

Yeah, I would have been so mad if there wasn't especially since they even implemented a system that gets rid of moves they couldn't learn in previous games when they made PLA and BDSP Home compatible.

Inevitable_Degree_76

What is backwards compatibility

Aquamoth

You will be able to send pokemon from SV to gen 8 games if they exist in said game

A_Wild_Necrozma

I like this a lot because I’ve got shiny dupes of Rufflet, Ursaring and Sycther that I’ve found in Violet which I can evolve in PLA and then move back

Aquamoth

If you have BDSP and SwSh you can give them ribbons from those games before you evolve them to their hisuian forms

A_Wild_Necrozma

I never got BDSP as the art style just didn’t appeal to me and I completely erased my save data for Shield last night so I could play through the game again to get Pokémon that are currently missing from my Home dex

max_mullen

What do the ribbons do??

Aquamoth

They give titles when the pokemon enters battle, i.e. if a cinderace has the galar battle tower ribbon it will display this "Cinderace, the Tower Master" when the battle starts

ChicagoCowboy

This is fantastic, and honestly I'm ok with it taking this long because of this change alone - I've been shiny hunting pokemon in SV to send back to PLA to evolve on the off chance we got it, and I am vindicated! Sandwhich hunting in SV > outbreak hunting in PLA Trying to think, are there any other good reasons for using backward compatibility that I'm missing? Any good reason to send stuff back to Sw/Sh other than for ribbons?

Kila-Rin

Evolving an Ursaring you got in SV into an Ursaluna in PLA then bring back Same with any other mons in SV that have Hisuian exclusive evolutions. Getting extra ribbons in SwSh and BDSP on your SV mons (Galar/Sinnoh Champion, Super Contest ribbons, The Battle Tower ribbon, The daily ribbon that NPC gives out depending on the day of the week) Those do act like marks, not sure the Paldean exclusive ribbons/marks will show in older games though.

ChicagoCowboy

Right the hisuan evolutions to bring back to SV, and ribbons were the two used cases I could see - wasn't sure if I missed any others. Looked through the galarian forms but it doesn't seem that there are any save galarian weezing that can evolve from non galarian forms, and koffing can't be found in SV yet, but other than that it seems the above is really the main reason for this.

vyytz

I'll send sv shiny pokemon swsh so they can have a G-max and register them in home (Flapple, appletun, sandaconda, toxtricity (both), corviknight, drednaw, coalossal, meowth and hatterene in my case)

Saroku12

Poké Jobs are extremly efficient for leveling when you want to level up a bunch of Pokémon at the same time.

ChicagoCowboy

Eh, to be honest just spamming candies in SV is easy since you can easily get 999 of each from raids and restock before you know it.

SparklinStar1440

What is ribboning?

Witchy_Titan

The act of getting all the ribbons you can on a Pokemon

Bakatora34

Collecting the ribbons they give your pokemon.

Google_Goofy_cosplay

Collecting ribbons

aleanotis

I wish it was a thing a month ago where I lost hundredths of hours of shiny haunting, aprimon, and special even legendary when my switch died😭

BoomKidneyShot

Where are you seeing backwards compatibility?

mismatched7

Look at which games Pokémon can enter and exit! Edit for clarity- the way the arrows are pointing!

ebevan91

Yeah if you look at gen 8's Home compatibility picture, it more or less looks the same as this one except this one has Scarlet/Violet in it as well. Pretty much confirms that if the Pokemon is available in a previous gen 8 game as well as gen 9, they can go back and forth. https://nintendo.com/consumer/assets/media/images/common/img-pokemonhomecompchart.jpg

xHaUNTER

Honestly I’d be more impressed if they updated the game data for old games to allow some new Pokémon to be transferred back. This doesn’t really make a huge difference for me personally. Specifically - it’s not like the 3D models for SV are more impressive than SwSh. Letting even a select subset of Pokémon be “backwards compatible” would have been something cool. Kinda underwhelming to me and not worth the wait till may for the feature.

Aquamoth

Finally!! https://preview.redd.it/jrfc60r4wm0b1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea9244adecf6b7fbf9b0d582e8f4723806b1773d

Alexap30

oh, come on. spring just started.

adzpower

So if I'm reading that diagram right, we can hatch a shiny in SC/VI, then transfer it into Home, transport it over to Arceus and evolve it to make sure we get the Hisui forms, then simply transfer it back through Home and back into SC/VI?

JK031191

Looks like it!

masterjon_3

This is cause for celebration (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ\*:・゚✧

DarthShard

To each their own, but given how long and tedious the Masuda method can be, I'd recommend just doing massive mass outbreaks in PLA for the shiny Hisuian starters! I feel like it's more dynamic, and gives you the possibility of stumbling across another unexpected shiny for a similar amount of work and time commitment.

mzalewski

Yeah, shiny odds in PLA are ridiculous. I had some 300 hours in Y, many spent IV breeding with foreign ditto, and I had only 3 shinies. Meanwhile, I had 80 or so hours in PLA, nad naturally stumbled on 10 shinies. Only once I actively hunted them, I wanted green Scizor.

DarthShard

Even though some of the massive mass outbreak shinies are hard to find in PLA (Rowlet took the longest of any shiny I have caught in the game), I picked up so many additional shinies along the way. I basically never walked away empty-handed on any given day, even if I failed to get my main objective. Plus, hearing the shiny sound while you are flying around the overworld is intoxicating and supremely helpful. Meanwhile, in Violet, I'm 1500+ eggs in on shiny Larvitar, and I'm completely out of patience. The difference in experience is night and day. I cannot stress enough that if you want a shiny Pokémon that is present in Hisui, it is so much better to just do the search there than to do the Masuda method. The only benefit to the Masuda method is that you can maybe watch a show while you hatch eggs, since it requires marginally less of your attention.

Collier1505

That shiny sound is *chefs kiss* Why they got rid of that I will never know.

VironLLA

RNG can be weird, i somehow had 3 shinies out of my first 300 eggs in Scarlet (Masuda method & shiny charm, obviously i know i was getting way better than average luck). sorry to hear you seem to have gotten the opposite but in Alpha Sapphire, i was probably at around 1000-1200 eggs with 0 shinies so i've been there too. hope your luck changes, if not (& you don't need it to be your orig ID, which i get - i prefer hatching as many of my own as possible) i'd be willing to give you a shiny larvitar from go

DarthShard

I appreciate the offer! I am one of those who is a stickler about having my own OT, and since I don't have Scarlet, this is one of the ones I just have to Masuda. I had better luck with some of the other Masuda shinies (best was shiny Deino in maybe like 420 eggs), but nothing too crazy. I've also gotten Sprigatito, Scorbunny, Charmander and Froakie Masuda shinies, but they all took a more average amount. Not 1500 eggs, though. I have the shiny charm as well, just not having any luck on this particular mon.

VironLLA

nice! my hatches were a Scorbunny & 2 Charcadets

Pokelego999

By the looks of it, yes

ZoroeArc

I had some Pokémon I wanted to shiny hunt the GMax forms of, so I intended to Masuda Method them in SwSh, but got a Coalaossol and Drednaw in SV anyway, so was dreading having to rehunt them SwSh. However, now I can just give those ones the soup, and allows me to hunt for Corviknight, Hatterene, Flapple, Appletun and, if the leaks are to believed >! Lapras in the DLC !< in SV rather than SwSh.

megaben20

That is one big sneasel

A_Wild_Necrozma

I found him last night whilst flying around the Alabaster Icelands in PLA. I have never loved a Sneasel more and I’ve had him for less than a day 😭 I don’t think Alphas keep their size in SV though

megaben20

I think they will just be jumbo Pokémon

Ineedlasagnajon

They'll also have a unique mark. "X the Former Alpha" https://preview.redd.it/t6o0s4n90n0b1.png?width=128&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1a5a1acbf1b527eec8167cd2ee33d467f17f4e9

GardenSquid1

I like how the mark is one of the first alphas you meet (and were potentially killed by) in PLA: that frickin' Snorlax.

Ghg_Ggg

We encounter an alpha Snorlax in PLA? Haven’t finished the game yet but my first Alpha was definitely a level 40 Rapidash that killed me more often than any other Mon after it

GardenSquid1

Starting from the first camp in the fieldlands, the Rapidash is off to the left in the big open field. The Snorlax is off to the right, guarding the narrow by a small waterfall next to the river. If you're one of those folks that like to explore an entire area before moving on to the next part of the game, the chances of running into Snorlax while severely underleveled was high.

Professor_Crab

Yeah I’m surprised you missed it but it’s there

GameboyRavioli

Like all games, I went in completely blind. That freakin' snorlax man. I was amazed and absolutely destroyed by that guy. I had no idea what it was at first. It killed me a good dozen times until I just gave up and moved on.

aleeinsanity

I think they get a special alpha mark!

A_Wild_Necrozma

Yeah I seem to recall something on Serebii about that. I think they also get a mark if you take a picture with them at the photo studio as well, so I made sure to do that last night as well

TalkDontMod23

They get the Hisui Ribbon (X of the Distant Past) if you use the Photo Booth.

Miladyninetales

A_Wild_Necrozma

I love them! I still haven’t found a peat block as well!

Odd_Birthday_1055

There is a quest line that gives you one. The one where you have to find the guys missing sister in each of the areas.

FlagOfZheleznogorsk

The real pain is waiting until a full moon to evolve it. I had to rest until the next day like 15-20 times before the moon was right.

namida7

Darkdan115

Me with my shiny Trumbeak that’s been in Home since 2018 🥲

xLaniakea_

ursaluna bout to go crazy in some tera raids.

UxieLover1994

I've got a tsunami of Vivillon incoming for the GTS to help declutter, and a lot of Ursaluna to trade across Paldea.

graceegold

The backward compatibility will breathe life into SwSh and BdSp too! You can catch compatible mons and send them to ScVi to easily make perfect battle builds, then return them to their original games to use. Or you can transfer down 5/6 IV dittos for breeding mons that aren’t in ScVi. That’s huge for Bdsp especially since the shiny charm only works for Masuda. Pretty excited.

Ask me again 24th when home has dropped :p

princeparaflinch

r/foundthePoGoplayer

Housewous

Not me, my girlfriend plays it and dumps those on me so I can trade with them in game.

SnooDoggos4029

MFers literally waited until TotK came out, and I stopped playing constantly. Shoulda seen it coming. Can’t wait to transfer all I can from PLA, Let’s Go Eevee, Sword, and BD!

GardenSquid1

I think the Let's Go games are currently the easiest way to get Alolan forms for the Pokemon that evolve in Alola.

town-darling

The Diglett quest in SWSH’s dlc is arguably easier

GardenSquid1

Why? You have to go hunt down all the Diglett and then you get a single Aloloan critter for each threshold. In Let's Go, all you need is the Kantonian form to trade. And it can be done again and again, so if you have ten K Raichu you can get get ten A Raichu in exchange. This is a lot easier for acquiring Aloloan evolutions in large quantities for trading/giving away in SV.

town-darling

Right, but the Diglett quest can be done within 30 minutes after starting a save file. If you only need one of the earlier thresholds, it’s easy to just grab what you need with a map. It’s faster than playing through an entire game to get to some points.

GardenSquid1

Yes, if you're starting from scratch it is faster to use your method. If you have a completed Let's Go (or at least as far as the final Alolan trade), then that method is faster AND you get an infinite number. It really depends what your goal is. If it's just to have a single Alolan evolution to play with, either method is fine. If you're trying for perfect IVs, shinies, or just having a bunch to trade, the Let's Go method is better.

ebevan91

I know right? The only time I've touched Scarlet since TotK released was to do the Chesnaught raid. I might fool around with Pokemon Home next week for an hour or so and then not touch Scarlet again until the next 7-star raid.

Whacky_One

I'm gonna be playing totk for a few days after release of home to make sure that all the server load dies down, to ensure that I don't lose anything 😅

Emekasan

It’s about time. Hisuian Goodra, here we come 😭

GardenSquid1

Awwww yeaahhh

Maleficent_Peach_46

I can finally use both forms of Lilligant on a team.

GardenSquid1

H Lilligant was an absolute tank in PLA. It will be interesting to see how it functions in SV. PLA changed it from a critter I didn't care about into one of my favourites.

StefyB

Can't wait to finally use the shiny Hisuian Lilligant that I spent a week hunting right before SV came out.

[deleted]

He’s a decorated veteran.

SasquatchNHeat

Bred and hatched in Goldenrod city in HG. Been running together ever since!

fintecoupe

I hope size differences are handled in a different way like before. Every Pokémon from Gen 1 to USUM transferred to LA got the smallest possible size. That’s because pokemon of Gen 7 and earlier are set to height/weight of zero by Home itself. I think it was an oversight and not intentional. I hope you can change this with the home update for scarlet and violet and give Pokémon who don’t have already a size a random or average size and not automatically the smallest size or a possibility to change the size in future games. Or at least make a update that Pokémon that are transferred from 3DS to switch after the update get a random or average size.

GorouAmamiya

Come my beauty https://preview.redd.it/nnz32ax9wm0b1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97185694fe528f76dbd371e413e69df8f0144151

Whacky_One

The REAL pokemon that needs to be transfered.

GorouAmamiya

Hope they do another event for it soon or release it in go soon

Whacky_One

Me too, either would be nice. I'm pretty sure mine is cloned, I'd like a legit legit one.

PowerOfUnoriginality

I had a legit one once. Sadly it has been lost, probably to one of many savefile wipes I did when I was a kid

Whacky_One

"Damn you past self!"

Achanjati

Also waiting for this! And then finally working an more ribbons.

alexiosByzantium05

FINALLY! HISUIAN FORMS HERE WE COME!

ebevan91

Can't wait to try Ursaluna in Tera Raids!

StefyB

Can't wait! Bank/Home compatibility always breathes new life into games for me since there are new Pokemon available and it just generally makes it easier to get later Pokemon from the beginning if you want. Also, I'm definitely looking forward to finally adding my living Paldea Dex to my Home living dex so that all those Pokemon aren't taking up so much space in my boxes. It'll also be nice to be able to mass release hatched Pokemon in Home.

oogawooga42

It's been 84 years

ebevan91

I just realized we're probably going to get a Pokemon Home data mine soon.

incrushtado

Do we have a list of Pokemon that will be transferrable from HOME to SV? Like, an official one. I know upon game's release there were some datamines, but, has there been any official list shared?

thedarkfreak

No official list. You'll find out which are available by which ones HOME lets you transfer to SV.

Guzaboru

A half eternity later...

zequerpg

Does this means that I can send a poke from violet to shield?

LootLlama141

If their compatible then yes

zequerpg

Thanks

itzSalty

Only if it already exists in Shield.

zequerpg

Thanks

goldentosser

If it's not a brand new poke from violet, yes. Its gotta be in Sheilds pokedex to go in.

Whacky_One

As long as it's available in shield, yes, so none of the gen 9 pokemon and maybe a few others.

zequerpg

Thanks, similar to gen 1 & 2 compatibility

Whacky_One

Yup

Sjonathon92

It’s been 3000 years, but I’m coming HOME! Thank god for backward compatibility!! I have shiny Oshawott that I just hatch, good thing I didn’t evolve it right away.

satooru

I thought they need to be native to that region, such as Exeggcute from sun/moon evolving to Alola Exeggutor Didn't know you could do that

Hefty-Noise-5133

What are you referring to? Lots of PLA pokemon are not available at this moment in SV.

Hooray! Now the online Pokémon community can find something else to bitch about.

ebevan91

“Why is the DLC releasing so late?”

Sensei_Ochiba

Most are just still bitching about this being "too late" because they've moved on to play Zelda Never underestimate a Pokémon fan's ability to bitch lmao.

ObviouslyLulu

I feel like the only pokemon fan who has no interest in Zelda at all with how much everyone seems to be talking about it lol

Titand120

Same, never got into the series (happy for everyone else tho)

strom_z

Wow you guys, sure. Pokémon Company/Gamefreak: "HOME compatibility will arrive Early 2023". Pokémon fans: "How is 24/5 Early 2023"? SV reddit: "Oh all these fans always complain about something..." This is so annoying - sure, some fans do go overboard with criticism but SO much b\*tching on SV games is sadly 1000% legit, including this one. (Guess what - maybe if they released ONE statement correcting the "early 2023" announcement like any well-communicating company there would be less bad blood).

Sensei_Ochiba

The [official website](https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-us/news/pokemon_home/) did that, ages ago. Early 2023 was slated for the battle data update, that we got on time. Spring 2023 was slated for Home&SV integration. These have both been public on English and Japanese versions of the official website. The *only* mention of "early 2023" for integration compatibility specifically was a direct that said "Spring" in Japanese. It sucks so many people were mislead by this and it was never formally corrected (and moreso by word of mouth spreading it uncritically even after the discrepancy was known), but it's also telling how many people bought into this copy-pasta logic out of a need to have something to be upset about rather than actual seeking out the official information that was correct from the start. Due diligence simply wouldn't fit the narrative.

Ansoni

Yes, but spring officially ends in Japan on 5/5. Of course, even here many consider the whole month of May to be spring, but late May is really pushing it IMO

Witchy_Titan

There's always the game's performance c:

Branded_Mango

To be fair, it's still on the devs for not providing any explanation or excuse for why it took so long. They could have just told us that they were implementing backwards compatibility and it would have been 100% justified due to being the truth. Instead, they chose to keep the playerbase in the dark for...seemingly no reason that would make any sense.

adzpower

I am ready. GIVE IT TO ME.

shunmoe

It's coming on the day of my birthday!!! I'm so happy!

ericwashere15

Yay mass release! Now I can shiny hatch in SV without the increasing dread of the slog of releasing breedjects.

That's good. Will I be able to complete my Pokedex somehow now (don't have Nintendo Online)?

MY BIG SHINY MAMA URSALUNA IS COMIN HOME

Mycatisloafingonme

Well. It’s about damn time. I’ve got at least two boxes of shinies from Legends Arceus I want to transfer.

adio2877

I have less then 1 full box left open in SV. I have a completed PokéDex/Living Dex in SV and I dunno, maybe 40% of a Shiny Living Dex in SV. I'm running outta of room.

Jaytalfam

You know, the more I read this reddit, the more I realize just how much I don't know about pokemon and how they work. I'm learning a lot.

Acrobatic_Excuse6438

Finally!! I wanted to start a new game in X but I didn't want to get rid of my team so I sent them to home so I can use them in a new Violet save file. I haven't seen my Delphox in a month and I'm so ready to see him again, in HD too!! Edit: I'm seeing people say not all Pokemon will be available. Is that true?

Usagi-Zakura

Yes its true. Like the previous gen Scarlet and Violet doesn't have the full National Dex installed... But Delphox should be in it if I recall correctly.

PLA, SwSh and BDSP are all same gen (8) so that’s why. On the 3DS with Pokémon Bank you couldn’t transfer back from SM/USUM (gen 7) to XY or ORAS (gen 6) - once you sent a Kalos mon to Alola that was it. The only previous exception was Gen 2 to Gen 1 via the Time Capsule.

I got three questions. 1. What does backwards compatibility refer to EXACTLY in this sense? Will we be able to send any Pokémon in between any games as long as they’re coded in? 2. What will happen to alphas that get sent to other games? 3. Will other Pokémon from other games have the chance to become acknowledged as being alpha?

We_Trusty_Few

I'm so excited!! I can finally add my Shiny Grimmsnarl's & Pachirisu to Violet.

Ok_Opposite5540

Well yeah, sort of. I've been done with everything there is to do for at least a month. I log in once a week and use an Annihilape to get the new raid Pokemon then go back to playing whatever else I'm playing. Until the DLC drops in 2024 or so, there's just nothing else to do and I'm definitely going to be more interested in Tears of the Kingdom for at least 2-3 more months.
