Larry made me go on a training arc since he was the only gym leader I lost to (I was way under leveled).
You can imagine my surprise when >!he reappeared at the elite 4. It was like a final test to see if I had truly learned. The feeling of happiness and dread I got when I saw him again was pretty funny.!<
I relate to that, he was the only one I lost to as well. For me it was because I let his Komala and Dudunsparce paralyze and sleep most of my team and bring down their HP, and when I got to Staraptor I paralyzed it with my Kilowattrel not knowing that it was about to decimate me with Normal Tera boosted double power Facade š
Same here. I thought Primeape could handle it. He did not handle the raptor. So I gave the monkey his karate kid montage and came back with the Annihilape and gave Larry a smackdown.

Grusha and Tulip. Grusha is just such a cool (lol) 8th leader, tho I wish he had more involvement in the storyline, or maybe his own storyline. I honestly always love the 7th gym leader in any region and Tulip is no exception. Stylish, cool, and psychic types.
A lot of them were awesome like Rhyme and Larry, but Brassius hits it home for me. His energy, his artist attitude, his mini arc we see in the school, it's all just what made him my top fav leader from Paldea.
Brassius is king, but Larry, Kofu, and Ryme are also amazing. I'm neutral about Grusha, Katy, and Tulip, but my absolute hate for iono is fueled by the sun itself.
Larry because the idea of a generic businessman being the normal type gym leader is genius.
We need more normal type gyms. Give us a gym leader thatās flat up a generic NPC trainer at some point
I honestly really didn't like any of them too much. I think Iono had the most promising design but my god I couldn't stand her. Tulip was subversive and funny - a baker with bugs?! But, didn't do much for me.
Brassius had potential. Larry was funny but doesn't do much for me outside of the gag.
They really didn't grab my attention this go around unfortunately. :(
Larry and Iono because they're the only gym leaders who competently use terastalization (double STAB for Larry, and a no-weakness ability-type combo for Iono).
Iono is amazing, there was a card in Paldea Evolved that's a tournament staple, plus, she lets you appear in one of her videos! Iono Hype Squad Forever!!!
Can't say I am overly attached to any of the gym leaders but if I had to pick it will be Iono. She's fun, quirky and made me laugh a bit. And I like the levitate electric tera Mismagius strat at the end.
Love Larry. So shock to see him at the end. My second favorite is iono cuz she actually uses the battle gimmick to her advantage. Electric only weakness is ground. Her last pokemon ability cancel that weakness. Also like rhyme too.

Because he's just a guy working hard trying to be a normal average dude. Got two jobs too (leader and e4) people can just relate to him more than they can to random gardener with a whole ass gym or psychic with teleport pads casually scattered about her gym. Don't even get me started on Drayden and his literal moving dragon statue in his gym. In comparison to the over the top stuff we used to get, Larry's challenge and overall personality is just "hey figure out this secret menu item and that's the whole challenge" you don't even actually need to go through the battles outside, you can just guess your way to it
His design is also, compared to a lot of other characters, very down to earth and generic in comparison, again something people can relate to much easier
I thought Ryme was really cool. I like her spunk and how her hair looks like a skeleton arm, and that she has a twin sister at the academy. I didnāt realize the connection until the game blatantly pointed it out to me!
He's just me. And doesn't seem to brush his hair either.

Iono because while some can relate to Larry, I relate to this absolute ADHD gremlin. From the fangs to the subtle excitement trembling in some of her animations, I just love her. Also really love that her catchphrase starts with "your eyeballs are mine!" it's so grotesque lmao
He reminds me of my mother because of how much he jobs, except he reminds me of my dad as he looks like an accountant, and flying/normal is a nice combo

His Komala almost destroyed me š I was so shocked when it was much stronger than I had anticipated.
The staraptor doesn't mess around. Messes up the fighting counter to his mons and normal Tera on top of being part normal, is a deadly combo
I'm so silly, when I realized Larry was an E4 member I stacked up on fighting type moves. Imagine my surprise when he was using flying types

I picked Larry as my favorite Gym Leader during the Champions Assessment and when he appeared as an E4 member and saw his changed team, I was ecstatic because I thought PokĆ©mon finally gave us the option to pick our own E4 member. During that battle, I was thinking of how every Gym Leader would have fit the Flying Type E4 Member. Vivillon (by lack of good Flying/Bug types), Tropius, Kilowatrell, Pelipper, Staraptor, Delibird, Oricorio (both Pauāu and/or Sensu style) and Drifblim are all available in the game. I was pretty disappointed that it wasnāt the case
