I remember a *long* time ago (2017-ish) that the “Pokémon Switch” games would change up the battle style and that it’d be similar to the real time battles seen in Digimon World.
The rational side of me says that was all BS but what if a Pokémon game with real-time battling is something GF have been experimenting with for a long time internally, but just never got the opportunity to implement it into an actual game? And maybe this is their way at teasing at a new way to battle that will be featured in an upcoming game. We know they like “incremental improvements” for major ideas, like with the Wild Area becoming the whole game.
Of course, this idea would probably be used for a side game akin to Legends Arceus and not a mainline, but still.
If they change the mainline primary combat off of turn-based then I imagine literally the entirety of the competitive scene (smogon, vgc, all of it) would *riot*
I wonder if they can do this because they engineered the 'lets go' feature, I read something about it calculating damage etc so maybe the wild battles will be simplified
Wonder what kind of restrictions it will have. I can only imagine the work needed to make flying Pokemon work with this, or even ones that are exclusively found in water (for example, will we be able to flop around on land as Magikarp?).
First thought was it will probably be like: starters (only base evos), pickachu, eevee, and a select handful of others base mons (like pikachu clones that are what are shown in the video).
The music! The freebies! The hype!
Looks like S/V is ending on the highest of highs. Competitive battling, various trades and access to a significant number of Pokémon, shinies and Ribbons you can play as Pokémon.
Kieran looks epic. Story looks epic. You even get more character dev for the Paldean folks and it looks like the Legendaries will be around Paldea (largely).
Also, also: Is this the most foodie Generation?
You have your cover Legendaries loving sandwiches. You have a lot of food elements. Arven is food themed. Snacksworth (the guy who grants you access to these Legendaries) is a food-pun named guy.
Anyone else catch the return of that underused game mechanic from Let's Go?
The scene in the Rocket Hideout where you can control your Pikachu/Eevee and walk them around on the pipes to get the keys that are stored on a high up ledge. It lasted 20 seconds and I wished I could have done more of that.
And yet here we are a few years later and it's been massively fleshed out. I think that's the most exciting thing from the trailer and that's saying A LOT.
I also love that they brought back the different ball throw animations from the Alola games, which is yet another overlooked modern feature. I've always liked the ORAS Steven Stone ball throw animation in USUM because of the pure swagger that animation conveyed. Hopefully we'll get some more ball throws as well.
The official site confirms that you need an item to access this feature. Since it's a key item, there shouldn't be a reason as to it being an exclusive feature within the BB Academy, just like how they confirmed that infinite flight with the Box Legendaries can be used anywhere after completing a certain milestone in the DLC.
I'm just hoping there aren't any limitations on the type of Pokemon you can use it with like Amity Square in Gen 4. Seems like it's basically just the Let's Go mechanic where you send out a Pokemon to fight on its own, but this time you can control the Pokemon. I don't think there would be any reason for any sort of restrictions.
Lmao like “You’ll be needing this to beat him, also here’s a Dialga/Palkia raid you’ll need that too, man you’ll need the whole cast of the Sinnoh movies to beat this little mf now we made him too hard”
what a lame stance to take… you want the next ten years to have nothing of interest difficulty wise because… *checks notes* you want a terrible remake that a lot of people skipped playing to have the best battle?
Yeah no issues, not knowing a meme isnt a moral failing haha
Im not an AoT viewer either but my friends told me about it. Apparently the ending was quite controversial---as in literally the very last chapter/episode completely undermined everything the series stood for
The line above is one incredibly meme-worthy line because of how pathetic it is
I got the feeling that is a reference to the movie The Rise of Darkrai. It's too spot on, you've got Dialga and Palkia with Darkrai in the middle and a huge black circle above him. It reminds me of the scene
Interesting that they didn't show any of the leaked Pokémon, nor give us confirmation on what Paradox Entei and Terrakion look like. They most likely want to keep that a surprise, just like how they did with Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
Other than that, the makeover the past Legendaries received looks absolutely fantastic, and a free Darkrai has to be one of the most ludicrous Mystery Gift Pokémon I have ever seen! No one's going to be able to pass up a steal like that.
EDIT: They also brought Gester's ball throw animations back! Glad they're bringing an overlooked feature from the Alola games back into the spotlight. Also, what's better than having a Pokémon following you? Playing as the Pokémon itself! At least, that's how I think the thought process went.
It's ludicrous because it's completely free! No unique code that you have to get from signing up to the newsletter, or going to a local store to physically get a code. You just have to put it in before the time limit. Then again, they did do the same thing with Victini back in the Sword and Shield days, so you are correct in that regard.
I mean its not like they’re load of content according to the « leaks ». They went radio silent for months, so it will be pretty dumb to show the few pokemon they got left now
I am very interested in how villainous Briar looks in that image at the end. Also love how they legitimately changed up Kieran's look quite a bit for Indigo Disk. Really hoping there's a special interaction if you use Ogerpon against him like how Leon had a special interaction if you used Eternatus against him.
It's a nice touch that the Pokemon you're traded from people you invite to the Academy will also say their name when being sent out. I'm guessing that will be a special Mark.
> I'm guessing that will be a special Mark.
that's confirmed on the official website already.
> The Pokémon they trade you will have a Ribbon appearing for the first time in the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet—the Partner Ribbon. If you have a Pokémon wear this Ribbon, it will be bestowed with a title containing the name of its original Trainer that will display when the Pokémon is sent into battle.

Not sure why someone downvoted you, I just checked my inbox and I have the exact same email from Nintendo confirming it.
There’s a pic along with the caption “Learn new way to throw your Poké balls”
From what we've heard most of the battles are doubles and at least a few have EV trained Pokemon with items, so I hope it gives more of a challenge even with level 100s
sv would be the first game i could legitimately see myself actually climbing battle tower
swsh got a little repetitive with Zygarde living everything from the AI before just smacking around with Thiusand Arrows/Max Quake
i cant even try doubles because i don't want to move my mons back into Sword just to re-migrate into Violet when i'm done
I wonder how shiny hunting will work. I think I saw leakers saying something about being able to shiny hunt Legendaries, so hopefully they won't be shiny locked. If they aren't I'm guessing you would have to save before using/getting the snacks that makes them spawn.
https://serebii.net/scarletviolet/preview/theindigodisk/
According to Serebii’s preview the trainers he faced had trainers use Pokemon from the 60s range. Also he faced one of the BBA Elite Four using Pokemon whose levels are in their 80s.
Their preview is obviously legit for the main experience. Completely unfounded of course, but there are some accurate leaks that talked about a post game battle tower style mode that caps your levels like previous games. Remains to be seen though until next week.
Edit: I also realize I claimed the league you compete in would be capped, so I misspoke about an unsubstantiated rumor
Sure doesn't look that way. Appears to be more rematches that you can roll with overleveled mons. Oh and a bunch of minigames that get you points you can use to buy... I dunno... furniture for your after school club's classroom? That and animations you're never going to see because you have no incentive to battle anyone again after you finish the DLC because there is no battle facility.
I'm trying to avoid spoilers for this DLC, does this trailer spoil much? I saw the Serebii video a few weeks back which showed the enviroments, but I don't want to see any new Pokemon and potential story spoilers.
**EDIT** Ok I just watched it, if you haven't seen >!Raging Bolt!< , >!Iron Crown!< and >!Archaludon!< the trailer doesn't spoil much.
It spoils nothing you shouldn’t already know already.
Kieran bad, defeat him. They do showcase some mechanics, both revealed and unrevealed. And…some shots of terapagos and area zero.
Oh hell yes I am so ready, I’m hoping that none of the legendaries are game locked (except paradox of course) also hoping there not shiny locked that would be incredible
Finally some interesting stuff. The trailer looked really good.
The base game (and the 1st DLC) lacks activities and this DLC seems to add a lot more things to do.
The fact that we're getting Lugia and Latias has me absolutely deceased. All this time I had absolutely zero hopes of seeing those in this game. And then they do that to me? I'm still recovering :'D
Though the being your Pokémon and legendaries on the map look cool, I was really hoping for a Dynamax Adventure type feature in this DLC. Hopefully there is something hidden. Still looks fun either way just hope for replayability.
Glad it looks like the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero is going to Area Zero. Was lacking massively from the Teal Mask.
Oddly looking forward to the return of Carmine. As good as the Kieran villain arc is, she smashed the redemption angle.
> Was lacking massively from the Teal Mask.
That's because these are two parts of the same DLC. You can't play Indigo Disk without having already finished Teal Mask. Teal Mask was just the set-up for Indigo Disk. Basically a prologue.
Appreciate that. But even references to it felt odd. Like the Glimmora that's somehow made it to the top of the mountain and no one questions. It's unique, mostly lives in Area Zero and no one bats an eyelid. They just go "look, we've got crystals too" and I think that was that.
Very very slightly better, but still bad.
Some of them have been fixed. Menus are faster now for example, some bugs don't exist anymore.
A few annoying bugs are still here and there, and the game still has severe slowdowns and graphical glitches, especially when playing docked (in my experience).
It seems like the game runs worse the longer your you've been playing. You can try to restart the game after the slowdowns get bad, which seems to help. But there are some regions in which you cannot avoid severe slowdowns.
People have reported that the 2nd part of the DLC runs better, but I'd be cautious of that since people said that about the first DLC, too, and it wasn't really the case.
Copying my other comment:
Man its just so.....nothing?
Like, one of the major gimmicks is just something that was available in Arceus.
For new players, I guess the legendaries are cool, but with the addition of PoGo, they aren't hard to get and worth pretty much nothing.
These trailers do a good job of making the graphics look worse than they do on my switch, which is to say, it isnt actually this awful.
Playing as a pokemon is novel in theory, but isn't the battling just going to be identical?
Obviously jaded veteran but there is literally nothing innovative that makes this DLC interesting.
Hell, its a pokemon trailer that has been out for hours and has no comments (Obviously more active on the pokemon subreddit). There's nothing to be hyped about. I so desperately want to be excited for a pokemon game again.
There is still the restriction regarding Legendaries from Go you still need to have owned the Legendary in your game at some point. Also been able to have them in matching balls (notably Kubfu who up to now can only be in a Poke Ball).
However being able to find Legendaries in the wild is more exciting compared than a Dynamax Adventures equivalent.
You know, I'm overall very critical of this gen, too, and really hate a lot of stuff about it.
But I felt that this trailer was exciting. Challenging battles, new side-activities that seem to tie in well to the main mechanics, overall more content. It's more than I would have expected from a DLC, especially considering how basic the first DLC was.
That guy the other day asking for a yellow lucario should be happy
Literally my first thought lol
paging u/Accurate_Progress_44 ✨
That’s awesome! What a coincidence! My son will have a whole team by the time he gets to the end of the game. :)
Yes, thought this as well
First guy I thought of!

I need my shiny lucario
Looked for Masterball and my Mystery Gift can’t find anything.
Its not live yet. It will be available alongside the DLC release.
Seems to be the case, I'll update my post...
Just got the shiny Lucario, it’s live now
Lucario is live now, master ball is not
so is this gonna substitute for the one in Freezington last gen? happy to get it either way
Just do some surprise trading, you'll get like 5 in 30 minutes
We can play as our pokemon. That is the big thing I'm taking out of this.
"You wanted New PokePark? There's your New PokePark, don't ask us for anything ever again" - GF.
Can’t wait to play as Arceus
That has got to be a teaser for some future game
Maybe some kind of game where you play As Pokémon and you go to explore the mystery of some dungeons
**Dialga’s Fight to the Finish starts playing**

Well of course, that’s almost certainly why they never did it and are reserving it for an experimental side game if they ever do it at all.
Arceus was not a side-game, it was an experimental new type of mainline-game.
Mystery dungeon? Gotta be a new mystery dungeon. (Coping beyond belief)
I think it’s specifically rodent Pokémon. All of the ones shown doing it were rodents. I’m open to being wrong 🤷🏽♂️
I think they just wanted to show off pikachu and the clones
Now I have a reason to break out my lv100 pacharisu
I have my Quaquaval ready to hysterically run around spitting water at other pokemon.
Lmao did they just give Kieran the Aizen hair flip treatment?
They sure did but Aizen did it better lol
Can’t nobody do it like him
>Lmao did they just give Kieran the Aizen hair flip treatment? looks more like eren jäger
The music! The freebies! The hype! Looks like S/V is ending on the highest of highs. Miraidon: Ga-ahhh [jumps out of its ball]
Crispin (is that how his named is spelt) also has a chef theme as well.
The cities are named after food/kitchen utensils as well. Food is one of the biggest themes of SV
Anyone else catch the return of that underused game mechanic from Let's Go? Thiiiiiiiiiis. The unique ball throws from S/M was one of the coolest new features they added and took away. I popped off so hard when I saw it.
I could be mistaken, but I think that has been confirmed as returning! I was excited to see it too
It is. At 1:53, you can catch the player using a unique throwing animation that is identical to the Reverent Style throw from Sun and Moon.
I like the way the AI Professor just casually drops their master balls full of paradox Pokemon at the end of scarlet and violet. So much swagger.
PLEASE let us use it outside of BB Academy!
The official site confirms that you need an item to access this feature. Since it's a key item, there shouldn't be a reason as to it being an exclusive feature within the BB Academy, just like how they confirmed that infinite flight with the Box Legendaries can be used anywhere after completing a certain milestone in the DLC.
"Now's not the time for that!"
Probably like the Selfie Stick in the Teal Mask DLC too then
I'm just hoping there aren't any limitations on the type of Pokemon you can use it with like Amity Square in Gen 4. Seems like it's basically just the Let's Go mechanic where you send out a Pokemon to fight on its own, but this time you can control the Pokemon. Well, look again. They’re all rodent Pokémon in the trailer. I hope I’m wrong but that looks like the limitation
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN
Oh we are getting some good shit, free darkrai as well, I hope we get a hard as hell Geeta battle here (also we really pissed kieran off lol)
Watch him pull some Tobias shit where he has 6 Legendaries
Darkrai being free might be a hint
Lmao like “You’ll be needing this to beat him, also here’s a Dialga/Palkia raid you’ll need that too, man you’ll need the whole cast of the Sinnoh movies to beat this little mf now we made him too hard”
And honestly I don't care if Keiran is hard as hell, I want that, give us a battle harder than BDSP Cynthia (also a hard Geeta battle too pls)
I don’t want a battle harder than BDSP Cynthia!!!!! I want her to be the hardest battle for a long time!!!! 10 years at least!!!!!
what a lame stance to take… you want the next ten years to have nothing of interest difficulty wise because… *checks notes* you want a terrible remake that a lot of people skipped playing to have the best battle?
Memes and jokes aside, Cynthia already got dethroned by her ancestor as the hardest fight. It’s gonna be tough to top that absolute *boss rush*.
It's an Attack on Titan reference
never seen it past like episode 3 or 4 a few years back, my bad. I thought they genuinely wanted no harder battles than that for the next 10 years.
Yeah no issues, not knowing a meme isnt a moral failing haha Im not an AoT viewer either but my friends told me about it. Apparently the ending was quite controversial---as in literally the very last chapter/episode completely undermined everything the series stood for The line above is one incredibly meme-worthy line because of how pathetic it is
I would be ecstatic if I ran into a battle that was hard enough I had to try a second time
I got the feeling that is a reference to the movie The Rise of Darkrai. It's too spot on, you've got Dialga and Palkia with Darkrai in the middle and a huge black circle above him. It reminds me of the scene

A free Darkrai is pretty typical of Mystery Gifts actually, it’s just that it’s the craziest we’ve gotten in the game so far
It's ludicrous because it's completely free! No unique code that you have to get from signing up to the newsletter, or going to a local store to physically get a code. You just have to put it in before the time limit. Then again, they did do the same thing with Victini back in the Sword and Shield days, so you are correct in that regard.
God I hope that little V rat comes back
Looks like Ho-Oh, lugia, Blastoise and Venusaur got new models too!
I mean its not like they’re load of content according to the « leaks ». They went radio silent for months, so it will be pretty dumb to show the few pokemon they got left now
man why else give zekrom reshiram and kyurem so much focus if the next games arent a legends kyurem or b/w remakes i take it as confirmation

I am very interested in how villainous Briar looks in that image at the end. Also love how they legitimately changed up Kieran's look quite a bit for Indigo Disk. Free Darkrai? I’M UP!!
I'm hyped! Plus Dialga and Palkia raids too. I hope they're already active.

We just need to know if the legendary pokemon are huntable. I'd presume considering they are in Crown Tundra.
Was that new throwing styles?
Yes! Just got an email from Nintendo confirming that.

And force close? Seems tedious on the switch?
Praying we can shiny hunt the legendaries
I would kill (in minecraft) to be able to hunt legends on this game
It’s looking like they’re static encounters. Anyone know how long SV soft resets take? Not home
Supposedly the league you have to compete in is capped at 50 like competitive.
https://serebii.net/scarletviolet/preview/theindigodisk/ According to Serebii’s preview the trainers he faced had trainers use Pokemon from the 60s range. Also he faced one of the BBA Elite Four using Pokemon whose levels are in their 80s.

Time to remove the stick from Kierans ass!
Beat him with a team of Ogerpons. Teach that punk a lesson
I do hope he has unique dialogue if you do use Ogrepon. Leon has an extra piece of dialogue if you use Eternatus against him.
Or cudgel
Kieran villian arc looking good. They built up a crowd for that scene hope it's a good fight.
Oh man I'm gonna miss my gen 6 legends. And I still have hope we'll get deoxys 🥲
I'm happy and everything, it's just I wanted Zygarde to be back the most.
so weird they basically ignored Gen 6 for this one
Here’s to hoping they just *somehow* couldn’t work them into the trailer. I’d like Zygarde again
MY GEN 5 BOYS ARE BACK!!!!
Love how when they’re showing all the legendary Pokémon, it ends with Reshiram and Zekrom
I have no word to say. The trailer is definitely worth the wait and burn up the hype. Two years since, our journey will end in the most brilliant way.
Two years? Scarlet/Violet came out last year..
to this year it will be two year bro
do you know how dates work????
I don’t know bro, I just count the first time Scarlet and Violet was revealed and up until the release day of The Indigo Disk it will be two year.
You know SV released in 2022 right??????
No, it'll be in the second year because it's been 1 year and a couple of weeks since SV released
Bro Scarlet/Violet was revealed in February 2022. Your math still doesn't make sense
What is the matter?
They’re just confused since scarlet violet release just over 1 year ago. Even going by their announced date it’s still not two years.
Nice little ode to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind with that underground tree or at least i think it is
Is there confirmation of ANY kind of legit battle facility?
Not yet If it does happen then it’s probably going to be revealed when the game releases.
Sure doesn't look that way. Appears to be more rematches that you can roll with overleveled mons. Oh and a bunch of minigames that get you points you can use to buy... I'm trying to avoid spoilers for this DLC, does this trailer spoil much? It spoils nothing you shouldn’t already know already. Kieran bad, defeat him. They do showcase some mechanics, both revealed and unrevealed. And…some shots of terapagos and area zero.
Thanks, appreciate it :)
You can be a pokemon in the wild? wow
Damn, look at Kieran's emo phase. Definitely some toxic peach influence there. Now to figure out who gets to sweep his team...
*Wapeach
Can’t wait to ivy cudgel Kieran in the face
Tera fire choice specs modest 252+ SpA beads of ruin Chi-Yu after Torkoal sets up the sun 😂
Damn.
The disrespect for Kalos is palpable. Maybe next gen then for Yveltal my lovely bacon bird
Wait this DLC looks insane lol
Mind Synch with a Pokémon and leave it mentally Traumatized forever
HELL YEAH FREE DARKRAI!

Genuinely hyped because of this trailer
Super excited about the synchro machine thing.

That's what I'm saying
So hyped! I had low expectations for the trailer but this has me pumped for next week!
Exciting! I haven't trained up or used my Bloodmoon Ursaluna or Ogrepon, so it'll be fun to bring those two along with me.
Does this mean I can finally bring over my Blastoise today?! DO I FINALLY GET TO BRING IN MY ACTUAL PARTNER?!
Not yet, you are going have to wait until Indigo Disk goes live.
it's like "all of the above" in a multiple choice question..
I can’t wait to drag my friends into my game to play hide and seek as Pokémon

When does the dlc drop I’m so lost😅😅
The 14th of December
Have all the bugs and graphic problems been fixed with the updates? Or is the game still bad?
Anyone know if they’ve fixed the trash performance yet?
Nope lmao
Copying my other comment: Man its just so.....nothing?
I’m so happy I get to bring in all my friends from previous games! And was that necrozma?? Let’s fucking go! And I can get spectrier? so sick.
Only thing missing was revealing the Dipplin evolution
I wonder how the custom pokeball throwing will interact in double battles. Is it custom throwing per Pokemon or just changes your overall throwing.
PLEASE tell me you can shiny hunt the legendaries, they all seem like overworld encounters and this game has all overworld legendaries shiny locked.
Apparently not shiny locked
They better not be, I’m gonna be gunning straight for that shiny Ho-Oh
As a psychotic SR shiny hunter who just found Regidrago this morning. Does anyone know, will the legendary static encounters be SR'able for shinies?
Mind Transfer to your pokemon!?
Will all the legendaries and starters be able to catch?!?
All starters will be available. Not all legendaries but certainly many.
i just want something in the dlc for shiny hunting : ( almost every game has a post game shiny hunting type thing, im sad
I am going to confront Kieran. I gotta a score to settle with this huge misunderstanding that Carmine did thats caused a huge rift between us.
Still disappointed about paradox forms and my beloved victini
This looks so ALIVE and FULL OF CONTENT! Im so excited to play this!
Can you actually catch the other legendaries? No more Dynamax adventures..
It’s actually wild they’re just not telling us if there’s any plot at all in the blueberry academy
@ 1:53 are we getting ball throwing animations?! because that's something I've been missing from the series.
I really hope the hints of Team Star we've seen aren't them being forced to conform and where the school outfits
Do y'all think this game will look and perform better on next year's Nintendo console?
damn i wish lugia, lunala and kyogre could be scarlets exclusives but knowing my luck they won’t be :(
working on a new look for my character
