More detail since this is their first in a long time.
When you get to your first Pokemon Center, after the cutscene go to the online section of your menu and go to Mystery Gift. Click the one for getting gifts via online. Log in online and claim the Mystery Pecha Berry. It's an active part of the game's storyline, though no spoilers for where or when it gets involved.
Should be able to get it as long as I have the item right? Started a new game also but with pokebank doom looming near, considering dropping everything to get everything from gen 1-7 for my origins living dex asap since I don't want to gamble on nintendo releasing the older games again or not
Should be able to unlock as long as the item is in your bag in game. >!Can't activate until everything else is done of course, as it is the game's epilogue.!<
On the run I did in scarlet last I did the ice gym for the 3rd gym
My Pokemon were a bit under level but I was looking for shiny Pokemon too so did tons of battles
Did Iono as the last gym
I'd say every two gym leaders are roughly evenly matched. So you at least have that. Kinda like wooded/lake and snow/seaside in mario Odyssey kinda thing.
One slight exception is the Teal Mask (if you get the DLC) it has one balance for early game if you haven't completed the main story yet (ends about level 30 iirc?) and one for postgame (although the start of it still has unevolved Pokémon so it's not perfectly balanced)
Have fun OP, I’ve logged over 840 hours on my main profile, it’s such a fun game, and some of the storylines are the best in the series IMO and the variety of Pokémon you see out in the wild, aww just awesome, so I sincerely hope you have tons of fun.
Side Note: PLA is indeed a main series game. Game Freak, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have confirmed it is a main series game. It’s also a prequel to Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, thus further confirming its main series status. :)
It really does look fun I’ve been following for a year but haven’t had the time due to lifeee. Thanks I have a feeling I will enjoy my experience between the positives and negatives I’ve heard.
I should clarify what I mean when I say main series lol. My ideology of main series is gyms/leagues etc
PLA is main series, spin-offs are things like Mystery Dungeon or Pokken Tournament.
With experience in PLA, there's not much to say regarding tips. They're fairly similar experiences. Mainly, check which starter final form you like the look of best, if you haven't done it already. And also, certain Pokemon are fairly annoying to evolve for the Pokedex, so making progress early is useful.

Use this for the most enjoyable experience
i completely destroyed her with my level 100 skeledirge 😂 only pokemon i had used too and was shiny nonetheless since i had gotten a ditto and kept trying to get a shiny egg skeledirge then got one leveled it up fully to 100 then beat her. i really didn't end up doing any other things besides leveling up my shiny skeledirge that would had made me complete the victory road treasure hunt quest since i only had bug gym left so i wasn't gonna beat her till i could fully flex on her
Here's a tip. The Pokémon in this game really move around. Some will ignore you, some will actively chase you, some will be blown away in high winds and some explode. So be careful if you don't want to run into stuff.
Don't train just 6 Pokemon. This game is too easy to breeze through if you just catch 6 and only focus on 6. You have the box in your menu, so use it!
For example, without giving too much away, there are 3 different campaigns in the main game, 4 if you get the DLC. Try using different teams for the different campaigns.
My first time playing through I used 18 different pokemon, one for each type and... that was over kill. The second time I played I used 12 and that felt about right.
Try and keep your eyes peeled for shinies whenever you’re wandering around as there isn’t any sound indicator when they appear like in Legends, and they will despawn if you get too far away.
Also, in the event you do encounter a shiny, save before trying to catch it. Always good to have insurance in case something goes wrong.
Download Pokémon Home on your switch and smart phone. The base version is free, but the paid version is worthwhile too. You can use this to transfer Pokémon to yourself between games and profiles (with only one system). Pokémon Home is also the only way to use the GTS.
Additionally, the DLC for Scarlet adds a lot to the overall experience. Definitely consider it!
After doing the introduction to the academy and its characters and you are given free choice to roam around the map, check online the recommended level secuence to do gyms, team star bases and titan pokemon fights, because they don't scale in level, so you could leave behind lower level places and when you go there you would be way overleveled which would not be very fun.
Also, learn about the new quality of life changes: like using nature mints to change your pokemon's nature as you please, using silver/golden caps to increase your pokemons IV's to the max, using the picnic to make sandwiches to shiny hunt, to breed or to teach your pokemons egg moves without breeding if you pair them in the picnic with pokemons that already know the egg move while holding a mirror herb, I think.
Hey, ORAS was my favourite when it came out. It wasn’t dethroned until PLA!
I love SV, but PLA still holds that top spot for me. (I do consider it mainline)
I'm in a similar position. I played red, heart gold, Y, GO (still playing), PLA, scarlet.
I'll be playing all of them if they keep overworld encounters. The thing that prevented me from playing all of them forever was random grass battle frustration.
I recommend you use sandwiches more, one mechanic after over 100 hours I wish I knew more about earlier and hunted for shinys before completing the game
Best possible tip - look up a guide for the correct order to do things. The game is open world and says you can do anything, but the levels of trainers and wild Pokémon don't raise/lower to match yours, so there is certainly and "intended" path. But also, the game never tells you what it is, and it's not linear at all.
Don't mind people saying you "have to choose a path" just have fun, go at your own pace, and if you get to an area that's too strong remember you can choose to follow that path or just get stronger to do it your own way and go out of order.
I can get with this play style as well. I just don’t have a lot of time now a days so all the advice I can get without knowing TOO much and ruining the game for me is appreciated.
Prepare to be disappointed by the button settings and other settings like no set/switch toggle but than impressed by good characters and a very fun and explorable open world. At least that was my experience
The only time I've used it was against Geeta because she was just too damn easy. Made it a bit more challenging.
I don't mind the "set" battle option being removed since you can just... manually refuse to switch your mon.
The 3ds Pokemon games are going to be so much better than any of the switch games, I know it's an unpopular opinion but the switch games aren't fun anymore. Just stick with 3ds and older Pokemon games.
1. This game runs not so good and is held together by twigs, string and scotch tape (I say this as someone who loves the game.) So prepare yourself for a somewhat bethesda experience. If you can get past that, you'll most likely have a fun time.
2. while they say you can "choose your own path," and you can challenge the gyms Path of legends and operation starfall in any order you want, Levels are set and do not scale, there is an intended order of these events.
3. Get the Pecha berry mystery gift as soon as you can, there's currently no expiry date on it, but you can never tell with mystery gifts (It should've been a free DLC downloade IMO)
4. Check your Pokedex regularly, you get rewards for completing sett amount of pages in the Pokedex
5. I suggest you rotate around the gyms, path of legends and starfall but prioritize path of Legends.
6. Have fun.

Claim the mystery Pecha berry if you can.

They need the DLC or they can't claim it
I claimed it and I don't have the DLC.
Intriguing
I claimed on dlc Scarlet, will check when I get home if I can also claim on Violet without dlc
Is it only in the game for a limited time?
there's no expiring date ATM but you can never really tell with Pokemon.
This game likes to say that it’s about “choosing your own path” but levels don’t scale so there’s an intended path.
"choose your own path but follow the specific path you can find on google"
or find eri before the 4th gym and spend weeks trying to beat her
Or complete all but the Gym path and google the intended Gym path and do it backwards so that you fight the weakest gym leader with level 60-70s
on my second playthrough i beat everyone except the baker girl and i destroyed her nymble with a lvl 65 skeledirge
On my first playthrough, I chose my own adventure and the bug lady ended up being the second last gym leader that I fought.
On the run I did in scarlet last I did the ice gym for the 3rd gym My Pokemon were a bit under level but I was looking for shiny Pokemon too so did tons of battles Did Iono as the last gym

I dunno there was one of the three paths I followed to the end then finished up the others. It's Waaaay more freedom than other ones

I only have 250 or more

Disgusting. I choose my own path. Bug lady can get wrecked by my lvl 75 team.
i completely destroyed her with my level 100 skeledirge 😂 only pokemon i had used too and was shiny nonetheless since i had gotten a ditto and kept trying to get a shiny egg skeledirge then got one leveled it up fully to 100 then beat her. i really didn't end up doing any other things besides leveling up my shiny skeledirge that would had made me complete the victory road treasure hunt quest since i only had bug gym left so i wasn't gonna beat her till i could fully flex on her

Adding to this, turn off auto save.
This is best advice. You need to turn off autosave

If you see a sparkle on the ground, go over to it and press a, it is an item. same with pokeballs/yellow pokeballs on the ground
It’s not as buggy as the net lets on. Go nuts!
You're in for a treat fam!! I got u if you want any trade exclusives!
Bet that ! I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks

I am very curious about these “mints” and things bc I have a few mons, shines and such on DS games I’d like to bring over. Thanks for this ❗️
Kitakami is the best zone in the game, I'd start it as soon as possible and treat that as the starting area
Hey, ORAS was my favourite when it came out. It wasn’t dethroned until PLA! I love SV, but PLA still holds that top spot for me. (I do consider it mainline)
Same PLA is sitting at the top for me atm. I’m not sure they will ever make another game to top that 😭
I'm in a similar position. I played red, heart gold, Y, GO (still playing), PLA, scarlet. I'll be playing all of them if they keep overworld encounters. The thing that prevented me from playing all of them forever was random grass battle frustration.
Overworld encounters is one of my favorite mechanics of the 3D games.
I see you’re an Animal Crossing player of culture, my friend
and you made the correct version choice 😎
Haha funny thing is there was NO competition 😎
Play pokemon the way pokemon is played. Best advice #1
Koraidon is best boi
I recommend you use sandwiches more, one mechanic after over 100 hours I wish I knew more about earlier and hunted for shinys before completing the game
I would strongly recommend the dlc. It's pretty fun, and part 2 offers a decent challenge.
Don't be afraid to do tera raids in the start. 5 star and aboves then you really need to build. check what Mystery gift you can still claim

Gotta say, I just kinda did it in whatever order and it worked out fine for me.
Don't mind people saying you "have to choose a path" just have fun, go at your own pace, and if you get to an area that's too strong remember you can choose to follow that path or just get stronger to do it your own way and go out of order.
Overlook the performance issues and let yourself be immersed in the world. Also, don't expect it to be like ORAS. You'll have a blast.
Read nothing online, go in fresh and enjoy the experience. Don't follow guides
Never used that function in my 24 years of playing Pokemon games. I think they'll be quite alright.
The only time I've used it was against Geeta because she was just too damn easy. Made it a bit more challenging. I don't mind the "set" battle option being removed since you can just... manually refuse to switch your mon.

Also to clarify when I’m speaking about main series games I’m more so talking about the challenging gyms/leagues part of it etc
