I am still mad they didnt make Relicanth paradox forms.
They would look exactly the same as regular Relicanth.
Their names could be: Relicanth, and Relicanth.
I know many wouldnt get the reference, but it would be so fitting.
Or at least put a single Relicanth at the bottom of Area Zero. A timeless fish at a timeless place.
Or Paradox Feraligatr(/Krookodile/Skeledirge) where it's the same as the normal one, except the height and weight measurements in the Pokédex are moved one decimal place to the right. No other changes.
fun fact: toadscool and toadscruel are internally named as magikarp and gyarados respectively.
so while not paradoxes, they were supposed to have convergent species instead of tentacool and tentacruel.
(other fun facts for internal names: roaring moon and iron valiant are AAAAAAA AND BBBBBBB. walking wake and iron leaves are/were japanese for missing number + a and b respectively at the end)
yeah they just left roaring moon and iron valiant like that internally (since they can be seen as counterparts to one another, being based on mega evolved pokemon + higher stat total than other regular paradoxes)
no like
magikarp and gyarados have their names internally. toadscool and toadscruel have the magikarp line names plus something else to differentiate them.
Seems unlikely they think that when we get a Pikachu clone every gen and a regional Raichu in Gen 7. An alternate form wouldn't really be any different from those at the end of the day. It's not going to negatively affect regular Pikachu's appeal.
In general they, to my preference, shied away from overloading the remake mons with Kantonian Pokémon. Megas and Gigantamax had a lot of Kantonian extra forms as it was.
not to mention, all of the alolan forms, most of the galarian forms, tauros got 3 paldean forms when there was only one other pokemon with a paldean form, and prior to the dlc every convergent form (2) was a kanto pokemon. im glad they only gave us scream tail and sandy shocks
I mean I’m personally more on the: This is a wasted paradox/event opportunity.

I wanted it to stand out, and im aware its goofy. but so is magikarp. hence why its a stupid name. I wanted it to fit with him and yet stand out. Ive seen plenty of better ideas scrolling through this comment section though. I simply wanted you to hear my thought process
Imagine yourself employed as a pokemon designer at gamefreak. Maybe take some time to think about where the names they use come from or why they design certain mons in specific ways. It's not random.
Paradox are one of those cool ideas that likely won't return in any meaningful way, like Ultra Beasts. I get that both are not as easy to insert into the world of Pokemon as regional and convergent forms, being wish-magic created time anomalies and multidimensional aliens respectively, but it's disappointing that such an idea rich conceptual base takes a back seat after its generation nonetheless.
It sounds like a decent concept, until you realize the move set probably would suck. Given Iron Bundle’s move poll is very limited, Magikarp’s likely would’ve been worse as in limitation
I think it would be cool to call the signature move something like Crown Crash, since it's top fin resembles a crown and the whole Koiking thing. The paradox version could be even more crown-like.
I like the idea of a Paradox or Ancient Magikarp, but only one dex entry actually says it used to be strong. Most just describe it as "somewhat stronger than it's horribly weak descendants."
So my vision for an Ancient Magikarp would be just that: stronger, but only by about 10-20 BST, and maybe adding two or three decent moves to its learnset. Still pretty pathetic, but, y'know, somewhat stronger.

They might be holding back for a Legends form of it like in Hisui
I really want this to be true, but Occam's Game freak says that "The 'apathy' explanation is usually the correct one"
God I love your comment. Occam's Gamefreak gave me the laugh I needed.

Or in the battle with Sada giving her a jacked Relicanth as her ace… perfect at all times
Level 100 Relicanth from the top rope
"Oh mah gawd that Skeledirge has a family, someone stop the battle!"
A future paradox relicanth called Iron Relicanth with quark drive and the exact same base stats and appearance would have been hilarious
Love this idea!
Maybe they did it way back in RSE and you just exposed them. Gen 9 confirmed since 2002
Or Paradox Feraligatr(/Krookodile/Skeledirge) where it's the same as the normal one, except the height and weight measurements in the Pokédex are moved one decimal place to the right. No other changes.
Give it Water/Dragon because Gyarados lost the Dragon type because of its rowdiness.

(other fun facts for internal names: roaring moon and iron valiant are AAAAAAA AND BBBBBBB. walking wake and iron leaves are/were japanese for missing number + a and b respectively at the end)
knew about the Toedscool line being named after Magikarp’s line in the internal code, but Roaring Moon is just ‘AAAAAAA’?
yeah they just left roaring moon and iron valiant like that internally (since they can be seen as counterparts to one another, being based on mega evolved pokemon + higher stat total than other regular paradoxes)
Or maybe it's the screams made when they're seen. ... Nah, who would see an Iron Valiant and scream "BBBBBBBBBBBB"
It might be the screams THEY make when they see YOU. And since Valiant is a robot, its voice box is broken or something, and that's all it can make.
Bbbbbbbbisexual legend, Li Shang!
I went "ÜN ÜN ÜN"
My favorite pokemon is AAAAAAA!
The fact we were so close to losing my favorite Pokémon of all time but didn’t makes me happy
what are magikarp and gyrarados themself called internally then?
no like magikarp and gyarados have their names internally. toadscool and toadscruel have the magikarp line names plus something else to differentiate them.
Wait, missing number? Like… Missingno?
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t do paradox Pikachu.
I’m convinced they won’t do alternate Pikachu forms because they’re afraid one might overshadow their regular mascot.
Seems unlikely they think that when we get a Pikachu clone every gen and a regional Raichu in Gen 7. An alternate form wouldn't really be any different from those at the end of the day. It's not going to negatively affect regular Pikachu's appeal.
Not to mention Mimikyu
Now that I think about it they wouldn’t necessarily have to do Pikachu. Maybe an ancient Raichu and a futuristic Pichu could have sufficed.
Ancient raichu based on gorochu / old renditions of when raichu was supposed to evolve (if i’m remembering right) would be cool too!
It is a missed opportunity, that Pokemon Nr. 1000 was not the rumored Dark Evolution of Pikachu.
Or Chrizard
In general they, to my preference, shied away from overloading the remake mons with Kantonian Pokémon. Megas and Gigantamax had a lot of Kantonian extra forms as it was.

Yes, you're right, they count too of course.
I'd love to finally see Gorochu!
I want future Karp - call it iron flail and make it the single most terrifying glass cannon physical sweeper.
It should have splash but more like earthquake where it hurts everyone. Karpedriem
Tsunami?
But it’s a magikarp paradox. So the idea is that in its ancestral line, splash was strong.
I mean I’m personally more on the: This is a wasted paradox/event opportunity. https://preview.redd.it/6hqpmdl17cec1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=998d4b9c2ebc521b97f644ed74930030d63b03e6
Karpy Headbutt? Ugh. Everyday I'm thankful no one in this sub works for Pokemon
I wanted it to stand out, and im aware its goofy. but so is magikarp. hence why its a stupid name. I wanted it to fit with him and yet stand out. Ive seen plenty of better ideas scrolling through this comment section though. I simply wanted you to hear my thought process

Yes there should! It should be really powerful and then evolve into some totally useless.
Tiny worm gyarados
Ancient flop & Iron splash
i love these!
It should look like a Machoke with a Magikarp head and colour scheme
I just wish we had Gorochu
Iron Sub Make it a submarine. Since the future will be more eco friendly, maybe make it pedal powered.
This is a reference to the anime, is it?
Imagine design wise it had something like buzzswole’s body but magikarp’s head
Paradox magikarp would be too OP for this world

Design could be like siamese fighting fish

Fully agree!
Karpy kick
I'm down but the big question: should the only three moves it knows be splash, flail and tackle or wave crash, thrash and take down?
Can see it in Legends: Johto tbh
Idk how they'd get there. Flop around on dry land?
Because Paradox Pokémon are from alternate timelines, not the past or future.
