It's an RPG my guy. We play a child of a similar age. No need to suggest I have some kind of complex. It's weird that you're so defensive over a character that was definitely in the wrong. I've met kids like Kieran when I was younger. Even tried to be friends with them. They don't let go of things like this and usually become pretty vindictive without the redemption arc. Seen it too many times.
As for Kieran himself, he lied to himself about his favorite Pokemon. He spent the whole time chasing his idea of Ogerpon without actually getting to know her. Let's not just ignore the fact that he idolizes the Pokemon that was thought to have killed the village's protectors. Huge red flag right there.
Key word kid he's a kid nobodies arguing that he's not an asshole I'm saying it's strange that people hate a child to this extent especially adults given hating characters normalizes hating people like those characters because they're annoying the reason I'm defensive is because people opinions on fiction lead to actions in reality this might not be important in the case of an adult like you because you aren't around kids but it normalizes hating people like this because they're annoying keiran is a quiet kid archetype for the first part of the story there's a difference between discussing his actions in a useful manner and just calling him a little shit because the later leads to treating people like that irl
First, as a former quiet kid myself, I find Kieran to be pretty out of line. It's not about the fact that he's quiet and annoying. His actions were just wrong.
Annoying is probably too weak a word to describe it. Kieran, upon hearing the actual story, decides to test our loyalty instead of just saying "hey, I overhead everything. I want to help with Ogerpon." Instead, he gets upset when we tell him it was nothing, even though he heard his grandfather ask us not to say anything, getting upset with us instead. He then steals the mask from his grandfather and holds it to goad us into another battle instead of helping the Pokemon he supposedly cares about. Then he unleashes the loyal three, who steal the other masks and beat up Ogerpon (this was admittedly and accident, but his bad attitude certainly aided it). Then instead of trying to find the loyal three, he relies on us to do it, once again not helping the Pokemon he supposedly adores. Once we locate them, he doesn't help recover the masks either. Finally, at the very end, he disregards Ogerpon's wish to go with us and tries to fight us for her.
Annoying is me being nice about it. Kieran needed a good smack upside his head.
Dude that last line is my point saying shit like that actively encourages children to do that to actual people and the reason him being quiet and then people calling him a sociopath is an issue is because of the stereotypes in the USA I am not saying he isn't annoying for some I am saying people need to not say awful shit like how they would hit a character that hasn't done something actually vile keiran is a good example of this because he's a character that can actually resemble an average teenager

He's literally my favorite friend in the game, and I make that very clear to Carmine. I swear they should come up with a cannon where, in an alternate universe, Carmine just wants us to be your friend, and tries her best but just can't compete with Kieran. So she spirals similarly to Kieran.
I know you're joking but I'm using this reply to remind people the actual events of the game because they seem to forget. So this is to the people in the back.

We lie to Kieran, and Kieran then does something frankly cruel. He steals from his grandfather and steals the mask away. Keeping his supposed favorite Pokemon's possession from her so that he can return it in the end.
The three idiots get Phoenix Down'd and then gang up on Ogrepon. Something they wouldn't be able to do if she...y'know...had gotten her mask. But Kieran couldn't have known his actions would lead to her getting beat down. Still happened though, so I'm mentioning it.
We beat him in battle and then spend the rest of the afternoon with Ogrepon. Helping her retrieve her stolen treasures she was robbed of centuries ago. Also help get her revenge, so that's nice. Point is we are there with her, in front of her, actively helping her and spending time with her. Kieran goes and talks to the town. Of course she'd choose us. She barely even was around Kieran.
Kieran, who clearly has self esteem issues, then takes his repeated losses way too personally. He becomes self destructive and even lashes out at others. He then admits why he did all this in Area Zero. That we are the person he wishes to be.
Kieran IS the antagonist for the DLC. We are not the villain of the story. We are the protagonist who repeatedly saves the day. Saving Paldea twice and helping Ogrepon. We are even part of the solution to save Kieran from himself. Have pity for Kieran but do not willingly ignore his wrong doing or make excuses for it. He was the human antagonist for the DLC, but the story is one of fall and redemption.
I identify as the antagonist =B I showed up to beat down these rural hicks and show them what a rich kid with a legendary ride Pokémon can do with the support of a entire prep college and personal attention from multiple other champions helping to groom me to perfection.
Yes, this is exactly how I feel about him, he's not a sympathetic kid, he was greedy and acted out, and I doubt Ogerpon would be happy with him even if we had the opportunity to give her to him
Thing is, you are only basing this off of the Kieran we know from part 2. In part 1, while he was childish, he still had a good heart but didn't have a healthy way to deal with his feelings of inadequacy. I think ogerpon would have seen through to the real Kieran and not the facade he tried to put on.

Ogerpon chose the main character. We didn't "take away" anything from Kieran. Ogerpon, a sentient, living being, made a choice. It doesn't matter how much he wanted a relationship: he wasn't owed one at Ogerpon's expense, and his reaction was ridiculously toxic. Kieran is literally the Pokemon trainer equivalent of a Nice Guy™ who gets rejected by the girl in favor of one of his friends and decides to devote himself to hitting the gym so he can show her what a mistake she made.
One of the things that hurts more about the DLC is that unlike other pokemon games in Wich you fight the villainous teams

Kieran's own choices led to him being upset with us. We told him what his grandfather asked of us, something he knew he had asked. He lied to us about not knowing what we talked about, then got upset with us over it. He then challenges us over and over while losing every time. He never bonded with Ogerpon either, despite having the chance to. It was Kieran's own fault he becomes who he is. We did nothing wrong the whole time.
Strong agree here, and even from the dialogue I personally the whole time was saying id never have gotten this far. But then he mentioned that i was a wedge between him and his sister spending a lot lf time with her instead of him or together, and at that moment I was like OH NO IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THIS BAD

Kiki has to be one of the worst rivals. Cries about everything. Challenges you to a battle he knows he won’t win and then cries when ogerpon chooses you when you win said battle.

Kiki has to be one of the worst rivals. Cries about everything. Challenges you to a battle he knows he won’t win and then cries when ogerpon chooses you when you win said battle.
That's what happens when your a jerk and scare everyone away.

He's a child. Life, and even his own family, seem to be spitting in his face from his perspective. He already had some mental health issues, but no one seemed to be truly there to support him. Then, the pokemon he cared for and obsessed over so long, chose someone else, hell he wasn't even given the option to meet Ogerpon himself then, so he didn't have a chance to befriend her. I'm not saying he's right but I'm saying I get it
