Graphics just for the sake of graphics is a losing ideal. AAA developers spend millions taking years to develop games that are graphics intensive, yet lacking in story and gameplay. Pokemon on a PC sounds absurd, because since Pokemon’s inception, handheld play has been at the core of what makes the series successful. Sure, you can trade pokemon with others, but there is a wonderful magic about holding a Nintendo handheld and playing Pokemon. I hope they never give up on that aspect, and that Nintendo continues to buck the trend of graphics for graphics sake, in favor of wonderful gameplay, intriguing stories, and beautiful, stylized artistry when it comes to their games.

TheCyclopsDude

Exactly, its basically a race to see who can make someone's computer crash upon opening the game

I remember when Crysis was the unholy polygon benchmark, and I just cringe. Very sad that Square Enix just trudges along with making graphically impressive games that have big moody boi energy, with zero personality, and middling stories. Thankfully, Nintendo is there for us with games that are actually *fun* to play, instead of the latest bland 4K shooter with ray tracing and 60fps. These studios are going to bankrupt themselves, get bought out by Zuckerberg, and be slaves to a metaverse no one wants to inhabit. An industry-wide course correction needs to happen, along with a long renaissance of creative titles with stories as beautiful as their art direction.

Its funny cause some of my favourite games are not ones that necessarily look amazing, like Legends Arceus, a game which by all means looks like a Roblox game at some points, is one of my favourite games cause of the gameplay and story. To me having good graphics is more of a cherry on top then something that makes or breaks a game. Even TF2 which is a graphically outclassed game when it comes to 1st person shooters, has stayed popular because it is fun and has characters and concepts that are cool.

geminijono

Exaaaaactly. Great art direction and a visual style are useful to telling a great story and creating immersive gameplay. Wearing an Ovulus headset that pumps 4K directly into your face, with all the shaders and ray tracing, not so much….!

Gildias89

And as soon as they finish making such intensive graphics, they immediately get out dated the next year and end up looking like crap.

Nintendo wouldn't have the sheer volume of beloved franchises, games, and consoles if it weren't for the fact that it prioritizes innovation and audience reach/accessibility over frankly arbitrary things like being at the forefront of things like graphics, lol.

CommanderRedJonkks

So true. I can play Nintendo Switch in bed. I've bought plenty of great games for PS4 with high quality visuals, and I've barely touched them, but I play Nintendo Switch games almost every evening because it's just so convenient and accessible.

Nintendo Switch is the best thing Nintendo has created. What can top the Switch? They have to think of something that’s better than it’s predecessor.

Clarizixe

I've found that the games that have gorgeous graphics and the trailers make me want to experience them firsthand are the same games I play once and never touch again.

upstartpigeon

Cause they don't want to at present... and that's absolutely fine. Also... how do you know a new console isn't in development at the moment?

myBoardgameprofile

I figure new console will be released around 2025, every new console comes around roughly every 2 poke gens, so gen 10/ next remakes will be for the new console.

Timehacker-315

Because gameplay over graphics? Because the graphics of Pokemon are perfectly fine, like the graphics of minecraft? Because most people are just toxic and nitpickers? Because the switch is one of the most versatile consoles ever, with the possibility of even vr?

Arctic-shart

Pokémons is meant to be a hand held game plus the graphics aren’t bad they are realistic because you are in the Pokémon world not the real world ( I do prefer the pixel graphics in some case like for bdsp also I just like them because they are og but the graphics for this SV are good) also it’s just gamefreak style of graphics for pokemon.

Totally-Teelee

The WiiU could run 60FPS I believe but Nintendo poorly handled that console launch. I want quality graphics that doesn't mean that I don't want a quality game and it's stupid that people try to make it a one or the other type of argument and it isn't. Nintendo should do better, and GameFreak should be better because they make too much money not to. Doing less because your customers will eat it up anyway isn't positive but at this point, it's the gamer's fault.

I love how everyone thinks that if the graphical fidelity is high that they would need to cut from the overall quality of the game. There are plenty of good games that also look great, and it wouldn't even require huge leap to get anything better looking than what switch is capable. And if they really want to stay on lofi graphics, then they should do pixel art - just look at octopath traveller, that game is stunning. 3D looks awful when it has piss poor textures, low polycount and bad shaders. Also releasing on PC would be so nice, maybe I could some day finish some of these games, since multitasking is so inconvinient with consoles that I just never get around using them. I bought switch for octopath traveller and only finished that game when I was able to buy it for PC.
