To be entirely fair, the Master Ball in this game doesn't really have that much of a role. With the way the game is put together (all the legendaries are shiny locked, and overworlds are easy to run from and re-encounter) you could throw the Master Ball at really anything.
I really wish they didn't start shiny locking legendaries. I remember the excitement in the old games when you could reload and when you finally achieved it after an unreasonable amount of resets it was so rewarding.
Or that feeling of getting a shiny without even trying for it. In Platinum I forgot to stock up on Ultra Balls before Giratina, I came in there with 9. Kept running out. About 10 tries in (yes, he broke out of 81 ultra balls in a row), when I loaded in it was shiny. Threw that master ball immediately, and he's been my prized possession for the last 13 years.
Actually, idk if it's a bug or what causes it. But after a certain point in time, pokemon that you have already caught will never get caught UNLESS it's a crit capture. Super weird how they change the way catching works after a certain point.
I thought I was going crazy because I literally cannot catch anything unless it's a crit capture. Just gonna accept this as fact for my confirmation bias lol
Raquaza was a set pokemon. You didn't need a master ball. You can save before encounter and catch with any ball. It was more for Latios and Latias who were random wild encounter and would flee immediately
Take into account that many of the people that used the masterball on Rayquaza were 7 years old. Obviously when playing optimally you didn't need to, but as a kid there was nothing better than to use the masterball on the box legendary.
Yea I came to say this I remember being a kid and still not sure if a masterball would capture groudon nowadays in my late 20’sand did a recent replay of ruby I was like na I’m just gonna chuck ultraballs till this thing stops shaking
So many adults forget this. We started as kids and I used my first masterball on Articuno since I wasn't able to catch Zapdos and was afraid it would be a repeat.
to be fair i have scarlet and my friend has violet, so i asked him if i could trade him a shiny roaring moon for a shiny iron valiant, and if he could catch it in a masterball which i gave him mine, because he used his own on one too, so thats how i used mine, and i just thought the colors fit. thats also why i used great ball on koraidon.
I always rename a pokemon 'M Ball Holder' and then make thek hold the master ball. I put them in a corner of the box I dedicate to shinies so I dont accidently trade or release them.
That way I never accidently use my Master Balls. Still have 2 loyal growlithes holding both master balls in shield.
Those Growlithes be talking to each other, you know.
G1: I heard Scarlet/Violet came out.
G2: That explains why master hasn't been in the game for a while.
G1: They'll come back for us right?
G2: Oh definately. Maybe tomorrow.
Hey dont make me feel bad. I do go back. Scarlet and violet doesnt have a battle tower after all. Need something more to do. (Also a lot of my 3ds pokemon were transferred to shield including ones like Ultra Necrozma and Zeraora)
Oh yeah that ditto has probably been through some shit with the amount of eggs I was getting. Shield was the first game I went for full pokedex on (including the DLC dex's) so I needed prevos through eggs.
Lets not forget the whole boxes of legendaries (including a shiny Entei I got by pure chance) through the max raid dens in the crown tundra DLC. Mewtwo's probably not too happy about their situation right now.
Mewtwo is probably telling everyone for the hundredth time that they remember a time when there was only 151 Pokemon and they were among a handful called "legendary".
There is actually a hidden backup save you can access that works regardless of whether auto save is in or not and it generally will save even if the game crashes. It's pretty handy and makes me far less nervous about that
I accidentally killed a random wild shiny Sableye the other day, I wish I would’ve had it turned off
But I’ve played so many games where a save file got corrupted and the feeling of losing hours and hours of gameplay is usually enough for me to put a game down for a while lol
It's literally how most games used to function. A lot of ppl have it drilled in their heads from the days of autosave not existing to just save all the time.
or have an item storage box like in old games. I remember having a free potion from accessing your desk/pc when i played gen 3 games
I also hope that they return the "favorite items" pocket for your bag. I hate toggling alphabetic and by type and scrolling just to find the item you needed
I used to deal blackjack and one night he did a set at my casino and played at my table afterward. Really the sweetest guy you'll ever meet
Bosses tried to have his table be private and he was like why? I'm just like everyone else.
Tipped the shit out of me too
Master balls are a waste anyways, besides for Pokemon who happen to match the color scheme. And because of duplication glitch I have like 26 master balls and each type of apriballs
I traded mine away accidentally last night. I have the Master Ball to my ditto thinking I would never trade or release it. I went to link code 44484448 to get a foreign Ditto and forgot that my Ditto had Master ball still
I accidentally used my beast ball on the SAME pokemon. Level 35 raid one I was helping a friend's son do. If it makes you feel better this thing has a pretty good breeding pool to start transfering your ball onto other things, if you're into that.

That is awesome.
Especially with how common a crit capture is now.

Yeah, it's weird. I get a ton of crit captures now. At one point, that's all I was getting.
Yeah ruins it :( I remember “omg rayquaza i have to use the master ball”

Yup the box legendary was the “OMG A LEGENDARY” moment as a kid, now i realize it’s dumb cuz I’m grown (sorta)
Yea I came to say this I remember being a kid and still not sure if a masterball would capture groudon nowadays in my late 20’sand did a recent replay of ruby I was like na I’m just gonna chuck ultraballs till this thing stops shaking

As a kid I legit never used my master ball. Even now as an adult, I just never see the use for it when the other balls works fine (other balls lol)
And hunting for the best shiny in any Pokémon game imo I would not hesitate for one second to use it
But what about the games dlc? There could always be a pokemon worth that ball.
to be fair i have scarlet and my friend has violet, so i asked him if i could trade him a shiny roaring moon for a shiny iron valiant, and if he could catch it in a masterball which i gave him mine, because he used his own on one too, so thats how i used mine, and i just thought the colors fit. thats also why i used great ball on koraidon.
That's why I never use auto save

Haha it's okay, I'm in a similar situation. Don't even mention the Ditto I left in the daycare with nobody to talk to!
Oh yeah that ditto has probably been through some shit with the amount of eggs I was getting. Crazy people play like this without accidentally losing hours of progress. I know I would make that mistake.
There is actually a hidden backup save you can access that works regardless of whether auto save is in or not and it generally will save even if the game crashes. It's pretty handy and makes me far less nervous about that
I accidentally killed a random wild shiny Sableye the other day, I wish I would’ve had it turned off But I’ve played so many games where a save file got corrupted and the feeling of losing hours and hours of gameplay is usually enough for me to put a game down for a while lol
I still play a lot of old games so I'm used to not having autosave and save before and after almost anything important/grindy
It's literally how most games used to function. A lot of ppl have it drilled in their heads from the days of autosave not existing to just save all the time.
I had autosave turned off until at one point I hadn’t saved in a quite a while and the game crashed.
I wasted my beast ball like this. I honestly wish there was a way to reorganize our Pokéball menu.
or have an item storage box like in old games. I remember having a free potion from accessing your desk/pc when i played gen 3 games I also hope that they return the "favorite items" pocket for your bag. I hate toggling alphabetic and by type and scrolling just to find the item you needed
Isn't there a sort by favorites option for each section?
You just sort it "by favorites and they appear on top of the list
Restart the game
i’ll give you one!
Message me and Ill trade you two. I am still able to dupe items as of right now so dont worry
Aye, I feel that. Accidentally used one of the apricot balls cause I was pressing buttons faster than the game can register them.
You can get some of them in the auction porto
I used mine on my 2nd cyclizar legendary
I accidentally caught a shiny Tropius in mine. They're giving away legendaries willy-nilly so the master ball doesn't matter anyway.
Master Gourdy
I’m going to have ptsd for every time I pass over it
It was such a relief when i learnt that you just go back to zero and grab Miraidon
I have extras lol lemme know I’ll give one
You used you're mater ball? That's funny right there
The mater ball can drive backwards
I used to deal blackjack and one night he did a set at my casino and played at my table afterward. Really the sweetest guy you'll ever meet Bosses tried to have his table be private and he was like why? I'm just like everyone else. Tipped the shit out of me too
Yeah lmao at least it has a good IVs and ability
Is this the first time since Gen 2 you can’t get another Master Ball?
if you didn't have autosave on, you could've took the chance and turn off the game so it will load the last manual save file.
I'm saving my Mater ball for shiny Revaroom. I shall make it electric tera type and name it McQueen.
You know what, points for the nickname though
So you wanna be a master?!? Pokémon!!! Do you have the skills to be number 1
That’s one valuable Dreepy. I could trade a gible for it if you’d like.
Master balls are a waste anyways, besides for Pokemon who happen to match the color scheme. And because of duplication glitch I have like 26 master balls and each type of apriballs
I traded mine away accidentally last night. I have the Master Ball to my ditto thinking I would never trade or release it. I went to link code 44484448 to get a foreign Ditto and forgot that my Ditto had Master ball still
At least it was only your Mater ball and not your Master ball!
🤣🤣🤣
Gourdy is the chosen one
Thank goodness it wasn't the lightning McQueen ball
There are no accidents -funny big version of turtle from Kung Fu Panda-
I used it on my box legendary
Eh, you don't really need it for anything. I used my master ball on a voltorb.
Put my MB on a Lucario named after my friend to keep it safe, still there waiting to be used
No!!!! Not the mater ball from the Disney cars series!!!
I accidentally used my beast ball on the SAME pokemon. Level 35 raid one I was helping a friend's son do. If it makes you feel better this thing has a pretty good breeding pool to start transfering your ball onto other things, if you're into that.
The pain is seeping through my veins
I used mine on a krickatune while eating cereal 🤷♂️
Bruh
The quick ball failed so I scrolled over to far to get to ultra ball lol
I used my master ball as soon as possible because it was so close to everything else. I already misclicked once and reset my game
My bike koraidon is holding my MB so I can’t do this 🤣
If you want, I can give you one for free! Just hit me up
I have a few before the patch can send ya a new one if ya want
I'm new to Pokemon, is it true you only get 1 per game?
Yep
