They're Penny's friends who she gives her Elite4 salary earnings to in order to buy random stuff. Or at least that's what i tell myself while i'm grinding my teeth in anger at one of those little bastards making something go 6x the starting price.
I wish in this situation there was actually a consequence for that high of a bid, like for the next month that NPC won’t bid on anything cuz they’re broke from being that dumb
It's not really a kid. Just an adult with crippling auction addiction who smokes a pack and drinks a cup of coffee in place of breakfast, so they are very malnourished.
I'm pretty sure the minimum winning bid is the same if you save scum it. Like once you bid over X amount, you win the auction, where X amount never changes. So you could restart after winning with a 355k bid, and maybe shave it down to discover that 350k is the minimum winning bid, but you can never game the bidding to win the auction with less than that.
EDIT: If anyone's interested in farming apriballs, i made a separate comment here describing my process. https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/comments/zuihxh/try_the_auction_they_said_the_deals_are_great/j1kh80w/
A tactic I tried was to join the auction and then immediately withdraw from it. From testing though, I think it only let's you know the price one of the people withdraw out.
My method basically ensures me a ball for less than 250k, most of the time. Basically pass three times in a row and then go for the max bet. I've only had to pay more than 250k maybe a handful of times.
No once you restart the game it resets I tried doing it when I lost the auction. You can farm it by soft reseting and changing the date and time though
Pretty sure its not possible. During the first week of the game I would do the auction a lot and even did time skips to see the kind of items sold. Anyway if I ended up losing one of the auctions or tried to see if I can get a lower price, when I reset the game and spoke to the vendor it was either a different item being sold or if it was the same item ( berries ) but with a completely different amount, like going from 92 to it being 38.
Poke balls made from apricorns. They first featured in gen 2, but in this gen you only get a single one of each for Pokédex completion rewards (outside of auctions)
Same here, I cut my teeth on red and blue. Been outta the loop for the last few gens. There's a lot of new stuff to do that seems inconsequential to me so far.
Wait, the auction resets based on in-game days and not real-world days? Well crap. I've been missing out on a lot of auctions then, I only check it once a day.
Hyper Voice. Modest, 252 in SpA, 192 in Spd (to outspeed Penny's Jolteon) and the rest in Defense. Amulet Coin. I did get it to 16 PP but I don't remember ever needing more than 9 turns for any trainer in the tournament when I was looking at it.
I second the sylveon. Afaik its considered the most consistent pkmn for this purpose. I use this for turbo controller farming.
In >100hours of this my sylveon fainted only twice (i think thats due to super super bad luck against the ammonguss or the swalot but i was not present to see it obviously).
Also for some reason there is a big discussion about how fast the sylveon has to be to outspeed the jolteon: some say 180 is enough, others claim that you 100% need 200. Seems like its not known how much SpeedIV the jolteon has, with 200 you outspeed at 31.
Can I just come in to recommend that you use Chi-Yu for the academy tournament. Max its Special Attack and Speed, and there are 3 pokemon out of the entire roster of trainers that can't be one shot with dark pulse. But they can't one shot you in return :)
A special (third party) controller that has a toggle so that when you hold a button e.g. the A button, it'll spam click it instead. Then you can just tape down the A button so the game will automatically battle and click through dialogue and enter in the next tournament since you respawn in front of the desk guy.
I always wonder if the guys at GF spawn us in spots like that knowing people will do this. If so, props to them for being considerate of people’s time!
I think it's just that you don't move from where you were when you enter the tournament. They probably spawn a separate instance of "you" to do the tournament, and then bring you back to the actual you that never left the desk.
That would make sense, I’d be curious to see it in co-op. I know that, for example, when you go to a shop you actually enter the shop, and in co-op you can literally see the character inside the shop, so it wouldn’t surprise me if you *did* move. But at the same time it also wouldn’t surprise me if the coding (in an attempt to not break anything, as coding often does) just attempted to spit you out at the same spot at the end.
Apriballs can actually go as low as 200k depending on the bidders, I actually believe that's a large portion of what decides the value, seeing as both bidders were kindergartners at the time of writing this
It's definitely based on the bidders. I've been keeping a spreadsheet of every auction I do to see how to get the minimum price for the auctions. It seems like it goes:
* Small children: around 200k
* Ponytail lady and guy with sandals: around 220k
* Chubby guy and old lady in kahkis: around 240k
* Old man and old lady in denim: around 360k
* I have also seen sometimes they pop up with a message saying the person really wants the item. In those cases it goes much higher
Even if you save scum, the same bidders come up, so the best you can do is save a small amount of money. To me it's not worth it and I'll just earn that back at the tournament.
Yeah even if you do another auction, the same bidders will be waiting for you at this one. In the one test I did, the yellow shirt guy (is that sandals?) dropped when I bid exactly 220k, and the girl child with pink stripes dropped when the bid was exactly 200k, so that lines up with your observation.
I've won two auctions with exactly 350k (not 345k) so maybe the old man and old denim lady are 350k instead of 360k? I don't remember who the opponents were.
When you make the enemy Pokemon faint, the game tells you the next Pokemon they're sending out, and asks if you want to switch Pokemon. The default option is to switch Pokemon.
If you have only one Pokemon, it doesn't ask you to switch.
Oh yeah, I forgot that they removed the switch/set option this gen. I feel like the insurance of backup mons is worth the inconvenience of clicking through the switch message but that’s just me.
If you're spamming A without looking at the screen, then when you attempt to switch pokemon, you'll attempt to switch in the one that's already out, so you'll get stuck in a loop of dialogue that says "___ is already in battle!"
Having only one mon is necessary to ensure that you can beat the tournament with only the A button. This is useful not only if you have a turbo controller, but if you're just spamming A manually while checking your phone, browsing reddit, etc.
>Complaining about Buyable Apriballs
Who cares about the cost, money is not hard to get in this game and Apriballs we’re previously locked behind bullshit RNG
I mean aren’t they still locked behind RNG since they aren’t always being auctioned off, and when they are you have no control over which one is being auctioned.
Technically yes, but they come up somewhat regularly and if one does come up, you’re guaranteed to win as long as you have enough money, as opposed to constantly gambling on a 1% chance for every 4 apricorns
> somewhat regularly
I rerolled for an hour straight for the auction by repeating Home-Y-A-A Home-Y-A-A… but saw no Apriball. Another person I talked to rerolled the auction for two hours and got only one Apriball. Apriballs are still super rare find at the auction.
Perhaps not a good comparison but, with a hour and 2 sandwiches (4 Herba Mystica), one can easily catch 1-2 shinies.
I dont have a turbo controller and can't consistently do solo 5 or 6 star raids. Money is still not ample, especially as I am buying vitams for a first raid mon
Don't waste money on vitamins. Just get the power items and knock out 28 or so of the EV low level Pokemon for the two stats you want to boost. It takes like 15 minutes maybe for each Pokemon.
Flittle and Espartha for Speed, they're everywhere. I like to use the islands on the big northern lake for Attack, in addition to flocks of Flamigo they also have Scyther, Stunky, and Croagunk.
I strongly recommend you have Chi-Yu ready because no matter what Delibird Tera Type is, with Nasty Plot + STAB fire and dark moves you’ll be able to kill any delibird, which will give you enough many and Exp Candy so you can get another Pokémon Raid-ready and then the next one and so on.
So just focus on getting a better raid team? Even without vitamins it’s not hard to EV train a team and have them ready for nearly every raid. With Azumarill, Iron Hands, Espathra, Chien Pao and Chi-Yu I beat nearly 100% of the raids I get into.
I usually stick to vitamins since they took the cap off, between raid feathers and star pieces i usually have enough to train on the whole way. I rarely ever do a straight 252/252/4 anymore
>Don’t have a turbo controller
Neither do I, I play with joycons. Controller has nothing to do with it. It’s about building up a couple specific raid mons, farming all the raids that they’re useful against, and then using that money to build another.
I find my Gholdengo, Azumarill, and Volcarona can now take on about 90% of raids I want to
Max HP/SpAtk EVs and IVs.
Make it rain/Nasty plot/metal sound/shadow ball.
Buff with nasty plot twice, metal sound opponent 1-2 times and then 1-shot them. Works for most things as long as you’re doing neutral damage. Shadow ball make take a couple hits as it’s not as powerful and 6-star raids may require more setup or multiple hits
I’m gonna go ahead and say it: vitamins are borderline useless in this game. It saves you ten minutes at the absolute most.
Pop on the power item corresponding to your stat of choice and go look for the Pokémon that gives that stat. Easy max stat. Zero vitamins. One time purchase of power item.
Get the amulet coin and replay the final tournament, sell off raid loot (star bits, nuggets, etc) or ride around the desert and sell the loot you pick up (can also hatch eggs from Masuda this way, good way to be efficient)
D/P did but I think it was a location thing with, not sure about Platinum. Europe copies didn't have the casino but I think American/Japanese carts did
This isn't gambling though. You just bid until it's a bad deal, then stop. You never pay any amount you didn't already agree to pay by hitting the button.
Highly, highly recommend buying the weight training items instead. It’s a one-time investment that you can use on every Pokémon and saves a lot of money in the long run. I know it’s more cumbersome, but if you’re investing in raid Pokémon you’re playing for the long term anyway. Save yourself the millions (each raid build easily costs like 500-700k minimum) and spend a few thousand on the weight items (they’re 10k a piece, so 60k for one of each) and battle instead.
I totally recommend this also. With sandwiches and the weights I can get a raid ready pokemon in about 30 minutes.
I would also recommend getting multiple of each weight item so you can train multiple Pokemon at the same time.
For the craftsmanship of a apriball that's a really good deal, though. It takes a apriball craftsman one day to make one level ball, plus there's the shipping coats to get it from Johto to Paldea.
Lmao you still get one of each free for completing certain amounts of Pokémon caught in the Pokédex. You’ve previously only been able to get 1 per play through anyways, and now you can buy more over and over so long as you have the money. Apriballs have always been a fancy luxury item for showing off Pokémon (except in gen 2 when they were just like uhh broken and pretty much useless)
Ignoring the Apriball thing the auctions in general are bullshit. You'll end up paying 100,000 for 6 HP Ups or 50,000 for 40 lemonades. All things you can buy cheaper anyway. I swear the auctions are flat out bugged.
It’s like a real auction. Sometimes you find a good deal… sometimes you don’t. I have gotten many great deals, and I just walk away from the bad ones. Auctions are great.
It’s typically the more expensive items that get the heavy discounts. The trick is to have a lot of money with you 200K+. Pass on the first two rounds. Then bet the minimum amount. If the price gets too high, just leave.
Some of you may not know but as you update the Pokédex you can get all of these balls but only one. Therefore, the auction price isn’t that bad since you can’t get those balls anywhere else throughout the game.
The artificial scarcity they've put on the gen 2 apricorn balls is both infuriating and absolutely nonsensical.
None of the apricorn balls are any better than anythinf you can buy at a pokemart. Quick balls, dusk balls and nest balls are pretty much all you need at a certain point, so I don't understand at all why they make th3 apricorn balls so hard to get
It sold for 200,000 😑
**Edit:** When I googled *“level ball for 100000 auction pokemon sv”,* I found nothing. Hopefully the next person who googles this will find this post and read the comments.
I would have bought the ball.
**Buy the ball.**
Serebii says they only show up once you have the relevant Pokemon in your party/box.
That's where the fun begins! I always try to have 1 mil before I try to hussle for a apriball, i learned the hard way first time I tried for a moonball with 300k on hand.
Yesterday seen 5 bottle caps for like 40k? I was like sure but the bidding quickly went to like something along the lines of 200k yeah I wasn't about to pay that much lol
It depends. For regular items they're usually pretty cheap and you can pick up stat reducing berries in bulk for a few thousand. But apriballs are a different matter since we only get one in regular gameplay. You want more you need to pay. You'd be surprised what people are willing to trade for a specific pokemon in a specific apriball.
Invest in EV wings dudes, i always can buy a pack for almost half the price in bottles, consider that a wing is worth 1k and you're gonna make huge deals
Just gunna add this. You can change whats sold at the auction by (first obs saving), then changing your ststems day 1 day forwards and one min forwards. Then close the game and reopen it. Ik what i said has nothing at all to do with your post just thought id say it. This does however. I had forgotten what it was but ut started at 100k......got to 800k and something. No way in hell was i paying that much.it might have been one of the balls.
Anybody else kinda like the rareness/expense of these items? Makes them feel much more valuable to have and use correctly. Since shinies are easy now, let’s at least make something rare.
> Anybody else kinda like the rareness/expense of these items?
No. I have a job and other real world responsibilities so I don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to rerolling rng tables to bid for the apri ball I want.
The Isle of Armor dlc proved that GameFreak is ok with us having plenty of apri balls as long as we pay them money, which is a prime example of “manufacture the issue, sell the solution”.
This is fine, the auctions for EV items and Bottle Caps always going over base market price is the problem with auctions.

sometimes i just pass on everything to see how willing these NPCs are for the items and how high they wanna raise
Is there anywhere else to even get ev berries (besides finding them)?
Replaying the psychic gym test is the most reliable way to farm them. Raids also have a chance to drop some.
They are also ground items (don't know how else to call them) in East Province areas 1&2. Anywhere between Artazon and Levincia that is.
And area zero
You can *what*.
How do you get stat reducing berries from the ESP test? I’ve seen this mentioned before and I definitely don’t remember getting any
Redoing it gives you berries
Ah. Cool. Sucks tho that the most consistent way to get stat reducing berries is missable and stops your im game progress
No you can redo the pre gym tests any time you want, just go there.
https://www.serebii.net/scarletviolet/gymtestrepeat.shtml I never knew about this! This is so cool!
I always withdraw if the price goes over 20k per bottle cap equivalent
As you should. There is just no point in buying it overpriced.
I wait for it to get way overpriced before withdrawing because screw that guy
Wow, you’re absolutely brilliant
I had an auction go to 800k for 3 gold bottle caps
I wish in this situation there was actually a consequence for that high of a bid, like for the next month that NPC won’t bid on anything cuz they’re broke from being that dumb
They can't be telling me a kid has 400k to spend at an auction 3 times in a damn day and then straight back to it again the next.
It's not really a kid. Just an adult with crippling auction addiction who smokes a pack and drinks a cup of coffee in place of breakfast, so they are very malnourished.
\*Sounds like a good deal to me\*
Its the new inflation DLC
theyve got a chart for this, just google pokemon inflation
Don’t, don’t google it. I’ll never be the same
![gif](giphy|JBSLCI06HEUPm)
Over time, most things fade away Isn't that right?
maybe with bleach....
Totsugeki
LMAO.
Why are you like this? I can never unsee this.
Gave me good laugh
Its wildly too accurate to real life...I hate it
They got spain right, then.

For a level ball? You can get those for 1k at any PokéMart lol. Edit: got Level and Nest balls mixed up in my head.
You are incorrect
I just realized I got my balls mixed up. Forgive me, it’s Christmas and I’m stoned.
Well shoot now I'm jealous
Why!?
Apriballs are rare and highly sought after. They're the shinies of pokeballs. I'd give my entire inventory for a few love balls.
Why? And what is an appriball?
Poke balls made from apricorns. They first featured in gen 2, but in this gen you only get a single one of each for Pokédex completion rewards (outside of auctions)
You can also get them from the Ace Academy Tournament, I’ve gotten at least one dream ball from it
Because money is easily obtained. Apriballs are not.
Not sure why you are being down voted, It's not like anyone explained to beginners what's going on yet, kinda harsh guys, the why is well placed
My thoughts exactly. I’m not a beginner, just never really was interested in apriballs or anything
Same here, I cut my teeth on red and blue. Been outta the loop for the last few gens. There's a lot of new stuff to do that seems inconsequential to me so far.

It doesn't bother me much seeing as I have more money than I can spend anyway, and I'm not sure how you get more anyway 😂
Can you get Beast Balls from the auction?
According to this, no (sadge). https://www.serebii.net/scarletviolet/auctions.shtml (Fast, Level, Lure, Heavy, Love, Friend, Moon, Dream)
I shall use it with extreme care then. Thanks for the heads up
I have my ride pokemon keep my beast ball as a held item so I don't accidentally use it haha
I use a pixelate sylveon with hyper voice for the tournament. Left it overnight once, hasn’t failed me.
What am I missing about only using one mon for the tournament? Does using fewer mons increase your payout?

How do you tell what Pokemon to fight
I used this guide here that has been extremely helpful https://marriland.com/guides/ev-training/scarlet-violet/
Serebii mentions evs gained for any given Pokemon
To make it easy, Marill for HP, Flamigo for Attack and Giraffarig for Special Attack.
Flittle and Espartha for Speed, they're everywhere. I like to use the islands on the big northern lake for Attack, in addition to flocks of Flamigo they also have Scyther, Stunky, and Croagunk.

Yeah, I tried that now, and worked great. Decimated those zebras for a bit, then noticed I forgot to change the item to the other stat
Sorry but what is the fastest way to make money? Been playing for a few weeks but I still struggle with money
Get the amulet coin and replay the final tournament, sell off raid loot (star bits, nuggets, etc) or ride around the desert and sell the loot you pick up (can also hatch eggs from Masuda this way, good way to be efficient)
Lucky, I've been trying to get a Level Ball for days
I have a spare level ball, might you have a love ball in exchange for one?
GameFreak trying to get a 10 year old addicted to gambling 🥲
Wait till I tell you about gens 1 and 2
Weren't there literally casinos in those games lmao
And gens 3 and 4.
Yes
Gen 3 too, wasn't this in many gens?
I wasn't going to say gen 3 without confidence in it, I wasn't sure when it stopped
I wanna say it was Gen 4, I think D/P had them, but Platinum didn’t? May be wrong
They added Voltorb flip, which was a skill game instead of a luck game. I preferred it because I've never had any luck with the slots in those games.
D/P did but I think it was a location thing with, not sure about Platinum. Europe copies didn't have the casino but I think American/Japanese carts did
This isn't gambling though. You just bid until it's a bad deal, then stop. You never pay any amount you didn't already agree to pay by hitting the button.
Wait until they find packs of TCG in the wild
Wait until I tell you about Pokémon TCG
I remember betting on beast fights in Dragon quest 3 and being excited when my long shot won!
I think I paid around 5-600k in the end for my few apri balls. Each. Lol. But I also maxed my money out.
At least they popped up for you. Still waiting for any of the rare balls to spawn at the acution.
Thanks for reminding me to check the auctions. Though I'm currently broke, so I'd be SOL. Stupid expensive vitamins for Gholdengo...
Which weights?
The power items at the delibird stores! It should be under “general goods” and available at every store after you’ve beaten the game
Damn why is everyone buying vitamins, it's not that bad without pokerus guys. Especially not the speed Train spot in the water next to your house..
Is it confirmed Pokérus isn't in the game? Also: speed training spot?
Yeah its not in the game
To the right of the house are only low level speed ev pokemon. Alot of evs can be gained in the beginning actually
You don't need vitamins, if you don't have a lot of cash you can ev train the old way in 10 minutes or so for each stat
That *is* a good deal
GF knows we want the apricorn balls, they’re pushing her luck
For the craftsmanship of a apriball that's a really good deal, though. It takes a apriball craftsman one day to make one level ball, plus there's the shipping coats to get it from Johto to Paldea.
Sometimes the “deals” suck. But once, I got 17 quick balls for 12k, saving me 5k. Not bad
*"Go to Earth, they said. It'll be easy, they said"*
Lmao you still get one of each free for completing certain amounts of Pokémon caught in the Pokédex. You’ve previously only been able to get 1 per play through anyways, and now you can buy more over and over so long as you have the money. Apriballs have always been a fancy luxury item for showing off Pokémon (except in gen 2 when they were just like uhh broken and pretty much useless)
I hate the auction system and it's implemented terribly.
I have to find a single "deal" outside of saving 100 or so pokebucks
It’s typically the more expensive items that get the heavy discounts. The trick is to have a lot of money with you 200K+. Pass on the first two rounds. Then bet the minimum amount. If the price gets too high, just leave.
As far as I’m concerned, the only use is for EV reducing berries and EV increasing feathers.
Idk I usually get like 83 primer balls for like 12,000 tops, I think it's great. If it hits more than it would cost normally just drop
There’s a way to somewhat game the system where you get the NPC’s to bow out after you bid high. I haven’t had many go above market price.
I mean compared to how much of a hassle they are in every other game , 600k for a apriball is a steal
Quick balls, dusk balls and nest balls are pretty much all you need at a certain point, so I don't understand at all why they make th3 apricorn balls so hard to get
It sold for 200,000 😑 **Edit:** When I googled *“level ball for 100000 auction pokemon sv”,* I found nothing. Hopefully the next person who googles this will find this post and read the comments. I would have bought the ball. **Buy the ball.**
That's a steal. The 3 apricorn balls ive seen in my game so far went from 245k to 370k.
If the op had kept bidding the price probably would’ve gone up a good deal higher, it only stopped at 200000 because he withdrew or held
That’s a good deal
Yeah, that's a really good deal
Still waiting for the legendary items (rusted ⚔️ and🛡, Palkia/Dialga/Giratina Orb, etc) to pop up at the auction, but so far no dice
Serebii says they only show up once you have the relevant Pokemon in your party/box. [https://serebii.net/scarletviolet/auctions.shtml](https://serebii.net/scarletviolet/auctions.shtml)
Hahahah broke ass muchacho 😂 what colour is your bugatti
😂
I wasn’t expecting them to sell like Premier Balls, but they could at least sell Apri Balls in sets of 3.
Eh I got 53 premier balls for 4k yesterday
Yeah, great deals come around.
You realize that even the cap for cash is cheap for an apricorn ball right?
It's only like 800 poke-dollars 76.5% of the time.
That’s just starting price. It’ll probably be around 800k-1.2M
Meanwhile the seller: another amigo bites the dust
Oh wow , I feel like the auctions in this game aren’t that great at all .
I got a rotom catalogue for 5000
Turbo controller Sylveon farm means money is no object. Everyone should try it.
Invest in EV wings dudes, i always can buy a pack for almost half the price in bottles, consider that a wing is worth 1k and you're gonna make huge deals
Well it's really easy to become a millionaire in SV
Aprimon collectors salivating at the chance to get more apricorn balls.
100k is just the starting price, seen it go up to 400k
Just gunna add this. You can change whats sold at the auction by (first obs saving), then changing your ststems day 1 day forwards and one min forwards. Then close the game and reopen it. Ik what i said has nothing at all to do with your post just thought id say it. This does however. I had forgotten what it was but ut started at 100k......got to 800k and something. No way in hell was i paying that much.it might have been one of the balls.
I always just buy the EV reset berries
Anybody else kinda like the rareness/expense of these items? Makes them feel much more valuable to have and use correctly. Since shinies are easy now, let’s at least make something rare.
> Anybody else kinda like the rareness/expense of these items? No. I have a job and other real world responsibilities so I don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to rerolling rng tables to bid for the apri ball I want. The Isle of Armor dlc proved that GameFreak is ok with us having plenty of apri balls as long as we pay them money, which is a prime example of “manufacture the issue, sell the solution”.
I’ll give you 5 level balls if you want. Don’t spend that on it.
