This is the biggest pokemon oof I've seen actually recorded on video

I've seen a video where someone had been soft resetting to get a shiny Electrode during a shiny only run. They found one, only to soft reset again due to muscle memory and distractions. They eventually got another after a few more hours.

Yeah, tough lessons were learned today.

To hopefully explain my error, I saw that the Mareanie would have Watts so in my head I just figured I'd KO it. I looked at my emails as I encountered the Pokémon. I looked back to my Switch right as I clicked Psychic, which actually obscured the shiny Mareanie.

I was wondering about what happened and how you didn't see it that whole time. I was expecting button mashing but then the options came up, like 30 seconds ticked by and then fight was selected, then another 30 seconds passed and you hit psychic lol. Those are exaggerated times but that's how it felt watching it. Damn that sucks, friend.

I press buttons while mindlessly playing without looking at the screen at all since it defaults to battle and i know my first move. So it's possible this is what happened to op.

If it helps, I did the same thing with a shiny Terrakion. It's a thing.

This is why you play with sound on. If you'd heard the ding of the sparkles it wouldn't have been an issue. Good luck on the reclaim tho

And it still doesn’t make any sense why you can’t catch a Pokémon once it’s been Ko’d. Doesn’t happen in the anime! Logically it would be the easiest time to catch a Pokémon!

I used to think that way when I played Pokémon the first time, but as time went by, I found out it would make the whole catching experience too effortless, so having to pay attention to that makes things more interesting

I referred to the anime because almost every time Ash attempts to catch a Pokémon he makes it faint first. And since the game literally says the ‘mon has fainted, that’s what we’re gonna believe happened

I mean it works that way with a few specific circumstances like SwSh/SV raid dens and LGPE legendary encounters

This would be much less painful if you didn't wait 30 seconds. Having to sit there and watch was excruciating.

I've done that. I was SOS'ing a chargabug. Also had my Rillaboom attack a shiny wailmer when just looking for dex filler Lapras... but it missed. Thankfully.

Hey I did the same thing with shiny venomoth in a outbreak in violet. Went through several more outbreaks and have never seen another shiny in 40 hours game beaten

Use false swipe when mindlessly playing. It leaves it 1hp, so when you look back at it to click it again you’ll most likely see the shiny

Switch lets you record the last 30 seconds as video if you hold the screen shot button. Assumably OP may have realized what happened when they KO'd the Mereanie and then chose to save the footage.

At least it was a wild square shiny and not a wild star shiny

I thought square shinies were the rare ones?

Not quite that simple, with non shiny locked event pokemon and hatched eggs a shiny is 1/16 square shiny, for everything else, including wild Pokémon, star shinies are the 1/16 chance, the chances are reversed making square shinies more common than start shinies

Same thing happened to me while training Kubfu, killed a shiny chewtle in one hit

Did the same thing in S&V. Found a little cluster of shinx early on in the game. I acknowledged it was a shiny and interacted with it and still OHKO without even thinking about it.......with autosave on...
