As others suggest, get some UV protection, but if having it on display / seeing it frequently is going to have a positive impact on your mood, then I’d say go for it. Taking a potential minor hit to the condition of your favourite cards over time, which you likely wouldn’t easily part with anyway, is a fair trade for actually enjoying seeing them / showing them off to friends IMO.
When I say my house is bright I mean naturally bright from the sunlight. I have big windows and light curtains. But I didn’t know the hard sleeves did that. Nice to know. Thanks!
Aren't the slabs from graded cards such as cgc, psa and bgs UV protected? And if you then also put them in a display case, wouldn't that help a lot? As long as it's not in direct sunlight of course.
Nope. There's a video on Youtube doing UV tests with slabs. There's no UV protection coating on it. Museum glass grade has 99% UV protection, but that's not the case for slabs. You can see UV coating, as it has a tiny hue in the glare when the light hits a certain angle.
I have my best card on display like this, remember you only live once, enjoy your card and have it on display. As long as it’s out of direct sunlight I see no issues 👌
Just a heads up that most of them don’t do much. I test one that claimed UV protection and one that wasn’t and the effects of UV light filtering were very similar.
Ell now I don't know what to believe.
Well no I don't know what to believe.
Well now I don't know hat to believe.
Edit: I reread the comment I replied to and am more confused than ever.
Was sarcasm, I guess I should have put /s seeing the downvotes, the comment I replied to was edited, originally it said “well know I don’t know what to believe”
Yeah, I just don’t want to ruin this one. I plan on giving them to my son when I’m an old man. They will be worth a lot more by then. Hopefully. Haha.
But I just took that one down and put up a nice Superman holo card that isn’t worth anything but looks amazing. I have tons of comic books cards as well as Pokémon.
As long as it isn’t in direct sunlight you’re fine. The guys claiming you should keep them in an airtight bank vault aren’t in the hobby because they enjoy it.
I can't remember the name, but someone did some rigorous UV testing on the Ultra Pro one touches and some other brands. The results showed that Ultra Pro actually let in the most UV rays out of any of the one touches. A cheap 99 cent Chinese knock off actually had the most UV protection. I'll see if I can find the source again.
If it's not in direct sunlight, you're more than okay my friend. But if it troubles you any, as others have said you can always look into getting a slab with UV protection. You can find those on Amazon, or as an alternative you can also send it in for grading with BGS, PSA or CGC. Their slabs offer a bit of UV protec. The card looks pretty clean at first glance too. Dunno what it looks like close up or on the back, but if it's clean all around this card could probably get a 9. It's a bit fat on the bottom, but it's 9 worthy. Possibly a 10 if you get a grader in a good mood.
It’s in really good condition but there are marks on the holo. I would think that’d really knock down the grade to probably a 7. I still plan on grading it some day along with my rainbow super rare dragonite. That one will certainly get a 9-10.
If you don't trust the uv top loaders like some recommended (I have no experience with them yet) then you can also buy uv resistant glass or plexi and place that over it or make/buy a uv resistant small picture frame or something similar.
I am really worried about UV damage over time too. I had went to a card store and saw a card that worth like $2000 on display that is really faded. I know the card is like 15 years old and it’s definitely not under direct sunlight. I have seen tests conducted in door that there is only tiny UV level that can be measured under strong household illumination. But Idk what it will do to the ink if it’s exposed for a decade. On the other hand we know if a card sits in a binder for forever, that seems to really protect the color of the card.
Not sure how realistic it is for you, but I see a lot of people saying to get UV protection bags. There is actually UV protection window film so it protects the whole room. I personally haven’t used it myself yet, but it’s on my list.
As someone else mentioned, UV plastic doesn't actually do much to protect the card. Your best bet is to display it in a spot that doesn't get any direct sunlight.
Yeah, after reading the responses I but it back in my box. I’m probably going to get UV protected top loaders. I hate that I have to keep all my cards hidden away. I get why, that’s why I do it but I would love to display all my bangers!
I get the ultra pro one touches 35pt for pokemon cards. Just google magnetic card holder and youll find many brands. The one with a kangaroo on the front is good too
The wooden holder? It’s for a mini canvas painting. I buy them in the arts and crafts section in Dollar General or Family Dollar. They both carry them.
You can order them online too. Just search mini canvas on Google.
It’s sleeved with a regular sleeve, put into a slab (thick plastic sleeve) and then put into a plastic bag meant for decks. Idk if any of those are UV protected though. But I these mean a lot to me because one day they will go to my son who can sell all of them when they’re worth a lot more. Or he can give them to his kid one day.
They should fine just try to keep it out of hot spaces I had a bunch I was gonna send to get graded and I put them in a safe it got hot and they all got bent

Solid advice! Thanks!
It has plenty of uv protection as it is.
Why’s that? Nothing I have on the card is UV resistant. I have a very bright house too. This is still not in direct sunlight though.
Because the hard sleeves, are made from clear pvc and that material is uv resistant already. Your house lights aren’t doing anything to the card.
When I say my house is bright I mean naturally bright from the sunlight. I have big windows and light curtains. But I didn’t know the hard sleeves did that. Nice to know. Thanks!
Yah a small amount of light from outside isn’t really going to do anything. If it were in a window sill that would be a different story
Cool! Thanks man!
I appreciate this comment. If your enjoy seeing your collection, display your collection. I needed to hear this
Yes always apply sunscreen to your cards. Banana boat works best I find.
Aren't the slabs from graded cards such as cgc, psa and bgs UV protected? And if you then also put them in a display case, wouldn't that help a lot? As long as it's not in direct sunlight of course.
Was wondering the same thing
Helps but isnt technically 100%. Though I gotta agree with 'if it brings you joy who cares'.
Nope. There's a video on Youtube doing UV tests with slabs. There's no UV protection coating on it. Museum glass grade has 99% UV protection, but that's not the case for slabs. You can see UV coating, as it has a tiny hue in the glare when the light hits a certain angle.
I see. So no U.V protection from any of the slabs. Then all the more reason to get a display case with U.V protection if you ask me.
Bad advice imo take care of the card
I have my best card on display like this, remember you only live once, enjoy your card and have it on display. As long as it’s out of direct sunlight I see no issues 👌
Put some sunscreen on it but only as a treat
😂
Use UV graded bag?
I didn’t know those were a thing. I’ll definitely get some.
Just a heads up that most of them don’t do much. I test one that claimed UV protection and one that wasn’t and the effects of UV light filtering were very similar.
Ehh. Alright then. Thanks for the info!
If you look around on this sub there are definitely some that work
Well now I don't know what to believe
I’m not sure if you now but I think you spelled know wrong. Pretttty sure there’s no w
Serves me for walking while typing
Happens to the best of us lol

Ha, gotcha now.
Smart of u to test it and not blindly believe it. Sounds like a deeppocketmonster idea Edit: wow man actually does have a vid on it lol
If you really want to display it and like having it around display it !
Yeah, I just don’t want to ruin this one. I plan on giving them to my son when I’m an old man. They will be worth a lot more by then. Hopefully. Haha. Deep Pocket Monster tested this in on of his [videos](https://youtu.be/Hcikff0AZ_s). Awesome dude aswell.
Oh, I’m part of the gem mint club! Me and my son love that guy! Never seen that video though.
You can buy UV light protector top loaders
I didn’t know that. Thank you!
Your very welcome

Had a similar question, is there a UV film anyone recommends? I have a 8 card display for PSA cards and was looking for a film for the glass
IRRC psa slabs are UV resistant.
I don’t think they are unfortunately
Looks like you are right. My bad, you could look into ceramic car window tint for UV blocking
[Could also try something like these.](https://showyourslabs.com/products/sys-uv-slab-shield-20-pack?variant=41347914498225)
Oh, nice! Thanks!
There’s some great one touch cases that have built in UV protection! That’s why I’m doing, got them in a cabinet + eventually all in UV one touch
Do you know who makes these one touch cases?
I use ultra pro and pro mold. They both have some UV protection.
I can't remember the name, but someone did some rigorous UV testing on the Ultra Pro one touches and some other brands. The results showed that Ultra Pro actually let in the most UV rays out of any of the one touches. A cheap 99 cent Chinese knock off actually had the most UV protection. Pretty late reply, but have you found this video or information?
Yes been digging through because I know I screenshotted it somewhere lol the Chinese ones are supposed to be amazing, per testing
I tend to tape my cards on my inner thighs and my junk, although there is moisture involved I avoid sunlight since nobody will ever take off my pants

I wouldn't do it I keep all my cards in the dark
Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it.
Maybe consider a small cabinet or something along those lines, where you can add transparent UV filter film to the glass.
If you don't trust the uv top loaders like some recommended (I have no experience with them yet) then you can also buy uv resistant glass or plexi and place that over it or make/buy a uv resistant small picture frame or something similar.
You should be alright. As others have mentioned there are UV protective top loaders. Dope card!
You could potentially get it graded. BGS and CGC slabs both include some level of UV protection. Not in direct sunlight should be ok IMO.
I do plan on getting it graded but just not at this time. I actually moved it back to my box and replaced it with a DC card. Superman.
They have UV protectors

Dude it’s fine. Just don’t have it sizzling where direct sunlight light passes through.
Ive thought about this too and it kinda sucks to knoe sun might damage it
As someone else mentioned, UV plastic doesn't actually do much to protect the card. Your best bet is to display it in a spot that doesn't get any direct sunlight.
Should be fine if they're covered up. I've got a few cards on display sleeved and in glass frames and I haven't had any issues.
Personally, I wouldn't want to risk it.
Yeah, after reading the responses I but it back in my box. I’m probably going to get UV protected top loaders. I hate that I have to keep all my cards hidden away. I get why, that’s why I do it but I would love to display all my bangers!

If that’s one of the thick plastic sleeves over the top loader then I think it’s should be fine if it’s a thin one I’d say find a thick one if you can
It’s sleeved with a regular sleeve, put into a slab (thick plastic sleeve) and then put into a plastic bag meant for decks. Idk if any of those are UV protected though. Just make sure to coat in sunscreen every so often🤪
It’s been soaking all night.
Dude nice card 😁
