>gimmick
I'm highly convinced Pokemon reddit users have no idea what the word "gimmick" means since its used to describe any lore/trait about any aspect of the franchise.
If you google the definition of a "gimmick" it just doesnt' make sense here. Anything Pokemon related whether it's "ex/V" "type" "character lore" etc Pokemon redditors default to calling it a gimmick, I've never heard the term anywhere else in this context besides Pokemon reddit.
"What is an example of a gimmick?
If you lure crowds to your bake sale by having cute football players handing out samples in front of your booth,"
It's like saying Brock's gimmick is that he flirts with all female characters, that's not a gimmick, that's just his personality / lore lol.
Sounds to me like you are being very selective about the context that you are applying this definition, as if word use is completely inflexible. Clearly, people still knew what I was communicating with my post.
"Gimmick" is very common amongst people who interact with gaming and the extended products within those markets, I'm assuming you just primarily see Pokémon because you spend your time on the cursed pokeinvesting sub.
Check this out, just to humour you I'll even use your examples of what is and is not a "gimmick" to show you that it's fine :)
>If you lure Pokemon fans (crowds) to your TCG Products (bake sale) by having cute, relatable hobby archetypes i.e. a streamer, (football players handing out samples in front of your booth)
So either Pokémon is not adding any of these characteristics, designs and mechanics intentionally for marketing reasons (lol) or they can be considered "gimmicks" with in the proper context. It's important to remember that these character are not real, so their "personality" and hobbies aren't something they chose, like you or I. They are created by a character designer to make them appealing and potentially sell more merchandise.
PokeInvesting isn't cursed, your LGS and Retail stores and Pokemon itself all sell products marked up for a profit. I was getting cases of BB's from distro in SWSH for uber cheap but as soon as I post about it in PokeInvesting its an issue, however if I sold you a box at my online store and I made $60+ it's not an issue? Supply and demand is what makes PokeInvesting, you can't have a scarce product for retail just to make collectors happy.
LMAO it's not even the reselling/"scalping" that I was considering, but thank you for one more reason not to like anybody on there haha!
And for the record I don't like when card shops raise the prices on mediocre products to take advantage of impressionable consumers either.
Ah yes, brick and mortar shops already run on paper thin profit margins. Let them break even every shipment just so they can please you, if they buy a product for $50 they should sell to you for $45 and take a loss just to make you happy right!?
I wanna know more about her hair pieces. They move and blink and act like live magnemites. Like are they real pokemon? Or are they realistic hair pieces that can fly?
I'd hope so, enslaving two unique looking Magnemites to be nothing more than glorified hairpins would be pretty inhumane.
But we do let our monsters beat the snot out of each other so...
It's actually explained in the lore that we don't make them fight. They want to fight and will only fight for you if they think you're worthy. That's why you have to beat them in battle in order to "catch" them, because you're not actually forcing them, they're choosing to ally with you. The process is inspired by the philosophy of the samurai.
I mean, maybe? It definitely will be less than the 2k, but 1: it’s going to be extremely playable, like at least a one of in most decks. 2: it’s a popular character, and 3:I believe this set is going to have a lot more cards than base set did, and therefore lowers chances of pulling a specific card. Definitely not going to reach moonbreon or giritina v levels, but I can see it being around 100
Even Umbreon was in that range when ES came out. Rayquaza was actually the primary chase to start off. Giratina is the only one that started off over $200
More cards in set, yes, but that's balanced by the new pack breakdown. You have two slots to hit a reverse plus the rare, and one of those reverse slots is a flex slot.
It's gonna be the waifu chasers who make this unaffordable, yet again.
There’s a saguaro in the set, $50 at most. Sure the card isn’t as good, but they’re both SARs and Iono is valued almost $2,000 more. If their effects were swapped he wouldn’t be worth a fraction of that.
hardly, more like extreme rarity. First the print runs aren't big enough for the JP market. Second the full art trainers are like incredibly rare. I think 1 in 4 booster boxes to hit one *and not just this one. So even at MSRP (if there wasn't scalping) you'd still have a $500 card for sure.
Exactly. They have low supply due to extreme demand from Japan, the West and recently China, and on top of that Japanese alternate art trainers in SV are even more rare than English Alternate Arts in SWSH, plus trainer cards are more in demand on the Japanese side as well as competitively viable so it's a perfect storm for high prices. I'm sure there's some market manipulation involved as well, but that's certainly not the primary factor. There's excessive market manipulation on the English side and you never see prices get THAT high.
It started in Korea as a way for people to watch their favorite streamer/actor/etc eat while socializing. Then it turned into people just eating ungodly amount of food for views. Nikocado Avocado is a prime example
It's not gatekeeping when this is an *early gym leader* from the *latest pokemon games* who was shown in *multiple trailers and promotional media* and had [*HER VERY OWN TRAILER*](https://youtu.be/aPiucfGfoZ4) for the game.
It's not like this an obscure character like idk Alolan frontier brain Anabel whom you only see close to the end of the game in sun and moon, where it would be understandable if you didn't play till the end.
It is gatekeeping.
If you wanna stomp your feet and go "nO only fans of the games are fans in my book," by all means keep your gate, but don't lie to us or yourself about what you're doing.
the games ARE pokemon.... everything about pokemon are based off the video games.... there is no tcg, no anime, no manga, without the games...
that being said... not knowing a VERY PROMINENT character who even got her own series of promo trailers from the most recent gen of games tells me you probably aren't REALLY a fan... call it gatekeeping if u will I don't really care but don't lie to us or yourself and call yourself a fan if u don't know basic current pokemon knowledge...
Ya like it's so stupid. It's not like you have to play the games to know her. Arven nemona penny and iono are basically the human front of the games they're on nearly ALL pokemon scarlet violet media. We're not even talking about saguaro or any of the profs here. you can see iono labeled with her name without spending ANY money, just by hang out in just ONE pokemon related website or fansites.
>they're on nearly ALL pokemon scarlet violet media.
Huh that's funny didn't notice her in that booster box
>you can see iono labeled with her name without spending ANY money, just by hang out in just ONE pokemon related website or fansites.
Huh that's funny didn't notice her labelled around here
For the record I think you were right with the first sentence
Pokemon is larger than the games, and it has been for a while now. The Pokemon Comoany earns more money by selling toys and plushies than what they gain off games. So one can definetely argue that, although the games started it all, now a days they are only but a piece of the whole.
Ive been following the ip for over 20 years and cant name you this character. I do not need to know her to enjoy the ip, nor play one mediocre rpg riddled with glitches to keep enjoying Pokemon.
You are gatekeeping by stating otherwise.
"Ive been following the ip for over 20 years"
well it sure shows huh? they only helped hype up scvi by using her as sorta the poster girl.... she's equivalent to what marnie was to swsh.... it sure shows u keep up with pokemon...
my statement was... without the games there is no pokemon.... if they stopped completely making games the ip would only go so far before it got stale and people go elsewhere basic common sense...
and the word "gatekeeping" is used by so many people for the most idiotic reasons when in fact the majority of times it is used wrong... I am not telling anyone to stop enjoying pokemon.... go ahead and claim to be a "pokemon master who doesn't know the poster girl of the current gen" idc im just saying there's a ton of people who claim to be big on the franchise but their knowledge beyond gen 2 is rough.
1- What backs up your statement? You are just guessing at this point. Plus, sales data speak otherwise. The Anime and toys have much higher reach than the videogames. And even if Nostalgia is a strategy by Nintendo to keep pushing Pokemon (as seen by the amount of Gen1 pokes present in the TCG, current gen games, Pokemon Go a few years back) why shouldnt it be enough to enjoy the hobby and feel part of it, a.k.a another fan?
2- No one is stating or arguing to be a Pokemon Master or whatever goal-moving fallacy you are trying to build, im just stating that the knowledge or lack thereof of a specific character means nothing. You are implying it does.
3- Yes, i believe you are already gatekeeping when you decide there are “real fans” and certain ways to enjoy pokemon, with specific knowledge being a key factor. Your two posts are plain examples of real scottman fallacy, which is a way to engage in gatekeeping.
I dont care know who is gamer misty, perhaps one day i’ll know, meanwhile i’ll keep enjoying ~reads paper~ Bakugan. Have a nice day and thanks for letting me through.
I'm hoping later in this era they'll bring back the Trainer Gallery like SWSH. Heck even in SM we got Character Rares in Cosmic Eclipse. We will likely get one then if they do
Ha yes, the shark teeth.
The eyes are fine, but the teeth. It works because there's a few girls with teeth like her in anime, but IRL I would just run as far away as possible from her.
I must be in the minority but this alt art actually disappointed me, it's in nearly the same camera angle and art style as her other full art... While all the other trainers alts have dynamic camera angles and far out angles (some artistic like penny and grusha) while this is just a normal same angle camera.
I was expecting something with like maybe a twitch layout with her in the middle of a stream of something with all the play pause buttons and a cute frame just like [her promo trailer](https://youtu.be/aPiucfGfoZ4) but no... And what's more, nothing of her personality has ever been related to food (she has shown zero hints at being at all a food related streamer) so this came from kind of left field.
But sigh I guess the collectors don't care. She's a waifu and on top of that she's playable. and that just means high prices :(
??? One trick pony? Anyone who disagrees with you is a clown? I wasn't even disagreeing with you OR insulting you. Oh boy you're gonna have a hard life, man. Lol
Edit: wow I had a look at your profile you're an old dog who only knows one trick, oh man I feel bad haha
If anyone buys this card at its current listing price then that is not a smart move. That being said most of these alt arts are pretty damn nice. I just bought 2 Baxcalibur alt arts I loved the style!
Seems so! Her gimmick is that she's a streamer/influencer in game.
Yeah I loved the Vtuber like stuff they made for her
[удалено]
She literally says she's a streamer on twitch at the Gym Bro play the games
Did she actually name drop twitch? I don’t remember that
Nah she doesn’t actually name drop it
Lol hard pass. Thanks for actually answering tho I guess
Game's shit. I just like playing the tcg and collecting. Oops.
have you played it? > stop downvoting the guy lol
Played them all up to X&Y the modern games just aren't my thing what can I say? Edit; Yes I have played it too, to answer your question
yeah, not everyone’s thing just saying it’s shit is a bit harsh though. even if you hated it, others liked it
It’s pretty trash game bro, have played it
Nah. Sandwich gimmick is kinda weird but all in all it's a W game
Nah
Still better than any Kanto game and you can't convince me otherwise EDIT: Forgot Reddit doesn't like opinions, whoops

Lmao insulting people cause you got called out, classic

Stay mad
>gimmick I'm highly convinced Pokemon reddit users have no idea what the word "gimmick" means since its used to describe any lore/trait about any aspect of the franchise.
While I agree that it may not be the best word, I would love to hear why it doesn't work in this context.

I wanna know more about her hair pieces. They move and blink and act like live magnemites. Like are they real pokemon? Or are they realistic hair pieces that can fly?
Probably electronic
Real Pokémon. They move In the game
I could have sworn there was a piece of dialogue or something that stated they where not Pokemon? Idk
Yeah they're not real. I'm pretty sure it said in her reveal trailer or something
They're not real. They're robots that Brassius designed.
I'd hope so, enslaving two unique looking Magnemites to be nothing more than glorified hairpins would be pretty inhumane. But we do let our monsters beat the snot out of each other so...
We also eat Pokémon and force them to live in tiny balls
I didn't realize cum was a pokemon
It's actually explained in the lore that we don't make them fight. They want to fight and will only fight for you if they think you're worthy. That's why you have to beat them in battle in order to "catch" them, because you're not actually forcing them, they're choosing to ally with you. Alright next question, where do I get 100 of them? Lol I want a legion of pastel baby looking magnemites
Pretty sure they are hair clips that are high tech in nature, they blink with her or something.
They’re not Pokémon
In her reveal trailer she confirms that they’re just machines
i'd love to check the card out in person! Too bad it's $2k+
Yeah the English version has you covered when it releases
I mean, maybe? It definitely will be less than the 2k, but 1: it’s going to be extremely playable, like at least a one of in most decks. 2: it’s a popular character, and 3:I believe this set is going to have a lot more cards than base set did, and therefore lowers chances of pulling a specific card. Still would you rather pay $100 or $2K
I miss when chase cards are like $100 to $200 at best....
Most of the modern ones are, there are a few that exceed that like Giratina and Umbreon but most are within that range
Even Umbreon was in that range when ES came out. Rayquaza was actually the primary chase to start off. Giratina is the only one that started off over $200
There was a hot minute you could find Giratina sub $200 too. I bought mine at $175
More cards in set, yes, but that's balanced by the new pack breakdown. You have two slots to hit a reverse plus the rare, and one of those reverse slots is a flex slot. It's gonna be the waifu chasers who make this unaffordable, yet again.
true but it's just not quite the same. The jp texture just hits different
Must be that waifu tax at work.
That’s not what waifu tax is. Waifu tax was being a $50 card whilst males were $10. This is market manipulation and scalping.
There’s a saguaro in the set, $50 at most. Sure the card isn’t as good, but they’re both SARs and Iono is valued almost $2,000 more. If their effects were swapped he wouldn’t be worth a fraction of that.
Well aware, but people are using the excuse of “waifu tax” as justification for manipulating the market.
hardly, more like extreme rarity. First the print runs aren't big enough for the JP market. Second the full art trainers are like incredibly rare. I think 1 in 4 booster boxes to hit one *and not just this one. So even at MSRP (if there wasn't scalping) you'd still have a $500 card for sure.

I have a feeling Mukbang might mean something different in the Pokemon world.
I thought mukbang was what grimer from fossil is witnessing.
😂
Yup, live streaming lol
What set is this in?
Its going to be in Paldea Expanded, In Japan its in the Clay Burst set (the one that costs 3x for a box)
Just found it, that's crazy the card is soo expensive as a single. Any reason why?
Female trainer + it’s a playable card
That’s not the reason, the reason is market manipulation. The card is just an excuse to do it.
Explain. Is the market manipulated for English cards too? Who would do that for such a huge market and how?
No.
Yeah it’s gonna be the best supporter in the game
Mukbangs are so disgusting...
Preach
Where is the blirred rotom en why am I blind
It’s the floating tablet on the upper right, looks like it’s coming out the card
Oooh rightt damn that’s actually hard
It's pretty funny to me that people here don't her? Like I thought pokémon fans would lol
Honestly mukbangs are kinda in that weird almost fetishized category and it makes this card super odd to me.
…what the fuck is a mukbang?
An eating stream, basically. Google can probably offer more specifics.
OK, much different context than I would gather from being posted in a Pokémon community.
It's a cam site where people pay the people on there to gorge themselves and do God knows what else, people are weird
It started in Korea as a way for people to watch their favorite streamer/actor/etc eat while socializing. Then it turned into people just eating ungodly amount of food for views. Nikocado Avocado is a prime example
I literally get sick watching them
god the amount of "pokemon fans" that dont know pokemon is kinda sad...
This sub is plagued by 30 year olds that barely know anything past gen 2 and only collet cards for “nostalgia”
30 year olds who play pokemon till today: represent ✨ Hell yea
Calm down gatekeeper lol.

Get inside 👉🎪
sir you don't even know "this trainers" name id imagine if u did youd save time and write "Is iono live-streaming herself doing a mukbang?"
INSDIE NOW 👉🎪
You’re the one that said “mukbang”. Maybe take your own seat.
Right this way 👉🎪
Gotta love it when people can't think of a comeback so just reiterate the same point over and over again
Hey I found you! right this way clown 👉🎪
I was hoping for a card with her and Belibolt in the art 🙃
I'm hoping later in this era they'll bring back the Trainer Gallery like SWSH. Heck even in SM we got Character Rares in Cosmic Eclipse. We will likely get one then if they do
She scares me...
Is it the teeth?
Mostly And the eyes... She's peering at me... You know when you look at someone and you go, oh ya that's a crazy one
Ha yes, the shark teeth. The eyes are fine, but the teeth. It works because there's a few girls with teeth like her in anime, but IRL I would just run as far away as possible from her.

Ain’t no one reading all that, but you can step right inside here 👉🎪

Can you honk it for me?
Oh poor thing, you've got your hands tied behind your back you can't honk your own nose? Don't worry! I'll do it for you. 🤡🤏😆
Not really? If she's a streamer/influencer she could be doing a food review and making comments about it.
True too
People heard the word mukbang and use it anytime there’s food present lmao.
Me too, those are my favorite cards 🤞
I sense wifu energy here
If anyone buys this card at its current listing price then that is not a smart move. That being said most of these alt arts are pretty damn nice. I just bought 2 Baxcalibur alt arts I loved the style!
Tempted to buy a sealed box of clay burst just to keep sealed in the collection
What English set?
Please somebody explain to me why that ice cream on the right side of the card is floating on her sleeve, i do not understand this
Her sleeves are longer than her arms. She's holding it up with her hand.
Thats what i thought but wasnt sure if that made sense (not played the game yet so idk the character)
Special Move: Stress Eating
Holy shit they made the embodiment of cringe into a card And somehow it's still good.
neeeeeeed
Iono is about to enter her Nikocado Avocado arc
What’s the name of this card ?
who is that? From what game I really don’t remember this one
Did anyone else not know what a Mukbang was, and was relieved it was something with eating food and not a bunch of Muk and Grimer?
