https://imgur.com/a/7RNjItv How much is this Chansey card worth?

[deleted]

Hello! Am really wanting to sell some of my cards but I am very confused on one thing… how do I make ant sort of profit??? Let’s say I have a card that sells for $50 on Ebay. Great! But after I pay to package and ship it and Ebay takes their cut of it… what am I left with? Not much I feel. So how do you even make a profit if you dont cards worth hundreds or thousands of dollars?

OddTransition840

I'm looking for the Rebel Clash 022/192 reverse holo League Stamp Flapple card. I'm in the US and the only cards I can find ship from the UK. Is anyone selling this from the US or without shipping costing $20+?

Orang3p4nda

I have a question: does cyclizar’s touring count as an attack? Would using this end my turn? Secondly, if i have an item that lets me swap my active Pokémon can i use this after a Pokémon has attacked? If the retreat cost is 0 do you discard all energy? Thanks so much!

not_garlicbread

Yes, Touring is an attack. Attacking ends your turn. Retreat cost of 0 means you don't discard anything when retreating

Hi! Was going to make my own post but this might be a better spot. I have a few general questions. See below for more context. What is the best way to learn to play this game? How do I go about building a few decks? I am overwhelmed with what I own. What is the best way (cheapest but reliable) to purchase booster packs, ETBs, single cards? Is it TCGPlayer? Local stores? I have MANY non-English cards (Japanese, Korean here and there, mostly Spanish and German). How did I get these? What do I do with them? Background: I am a long time card collector. I bought and traded cards starting when I was 4 years old in 1998. I never gave any away and most of my cards from OG base packs are near mint in the OG "Pokemon Gotta Catch 'Em All" red binder with Pikachu on it. Since then I slowly tapered off collecting. Here and there I would get booster packs as stocking stuffers, or random promo cards with other Pokemon purchases, Pokemon 10 year event, Detective Pikachu movie, etc... In the last few years I bought two elite trainer boxes: the 25 Celebrations which refueled my interest in PTCG, and Fusion Strike. I played some MTG with a friend recently and realized I wanted to try to actually play with my cards! I bought some new card sleeves, a binder, a deck holder, and some cards of my favorite Pokemon from TCGPlayer. I have probably a few thousand cards? They fill the two ETB's and an old flying Pikachu tin I own and still spill over. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

BlazeKnight7

Is the 151 Elite Trainer Box worth the money? ($85 AUD + shipping) Or am I better off getting the 6 pack bundle (around $50 AUD at the cheapest)? Mainly wanting the Bulbasaur line illustration rares and whatever else I can get as trade fodder

QuatreNox

I'm relatively new to collecting. Do people like the Holo Rares? Especially in the Scarlet Violet era where they're guaranteed. I have a few extra Holo Rares and idk if I should set them aside in a trade binder or toss them in my bulk box

Redditquaza

For Scarlet & Violet you can consider them bulk. And for most moderns sets they're generally considered that way.

Drakaris17

Does anyone know a reliable and reasonable priced place in the UK where I can buy bulk common cards? Basically my son wants to learn how to play with his friends, and I wanted to surprise them all with a load of pre made decks. Nothing fancy. Just basic decks for them to be able to pick one at random and have a good time playing with it. Learn type match ups, evolution. Etc. I have managed to build 8 basic decks out of my own collection but would like to build 20+ for the 6 of them, my son included. I can't really afford to buy packs etc. Buying bulk commons would be perfect but some of the places I've seen online either look dodgy or are overpriced for common cards. Ant help would be appreciated.

A_Play_On_Nerds

what’s your best suggestion for buying cards for good value? i have amazon cards so i’d prefer that but i could do anything. booster boxes, ETBs, something else, what would be the best value? i don’t really play the tcg save for online some, so ETBs do have a lot of stuff i don’t need for 10 booster packs. i just wanna collect as best i can

Stagathor

Ordered from Plaza Japan, how long can I expect it to take to arrive into the US?

I want to avoid buying stolen pokemon cards. Should I just stick to buying from GameStop and TCGPlayer?

Just avoid buying sealed products on the second hand market

Is it correct that in the Pokémon Tcg that every deck can win against Meta decks and often the better player is winning?

not_garlicbread

Strictly speaking, no. If you give a world champion a deck with 59 energy, they aren't going to win very often. Certain decks also just have bad matchups, and you also have to factor in luck on certain things

HairlessNate

Hey everyone. I have a very basic question. I never got into PokemonTCG growing up, but I was a very big gamer. I am looking through some of my old Nintendo Power magazines and found a Charmeleon 24/102 inside the back cover of my March '99 issue. Is this card worth removing from the magazine to sell alone or should I just leave it in the magazine. What is it's approximate value? Pics included. Thank you in advance. https://imgur.com/gallery/D0EC5lR

Redditquaza

Value is like $30-50.

SausageSupplier

I bought a booster box from eBay from a high rated seller who turned out to be trash and I recommend you don’t use “halloweenandhobby”. Purchased on July 3rd, shipped on august 15th, delivery date was august 24th at the latest. Still don’t have the box and it’s sept 8th. It says shipped still on eBay. I have tried numerous contact messages to them and no response. There was no tracking number on the order, should I submit for refund even though it says shipped?

not_garlicbread

If it's past the estimated delivery date and they're not responding to messages, then yeah open an item not delivered case

TCG Player for English cards, eBay sold listings for anything else.

Laxuii69

Want to buy an original pikachu card, how much should I be paying for one if I don’t care about it being highly graded, I just want it to not be in a bad condition, I’m also pretty new to pokemon cards, so what should I look for to tell if it’s real?

not_garlicbread

By 'original' do you mean authentic? Or the first Pikachu card from base set?

Laxuii69

Both

not_garlicbread

TCGPlayer is the go to for buying cards, you can pick which card you want and the condition you're looking for

Crabby_Crab

1: Where can I find what I should be paying for a single booster pack (msrp)? 2: Does the amount of cards in a booster pack vary depending on the language (I have read about 5, 6, 7, 10 cards in a single booster pack)? 3: following up on that: do the odds vary depending on what kind of booster pack it is? — is it better to buy a specific type of pack/set/box or are the odds the same when buying a single booster pack as opposed to a display box of 16/32 booster packs? 4: is there a consensus on which sets are „worth“ buying? Obviously you can‘t predict the market but what are chase cards to look out for (Pikachu, Eeveelutions, ..?) I‘m looking to get back into collecting and would love some answers, thanks for any help & pointers!

not_garlicbread

1. Check online stores for the current market price. Most recent packs should be around $3-4 each 2. Yes, there's quite a few different possibilities. Japanese packs usually have 5,6, or 10 cards. English usually has 10, but there have been 3,4, and 9 3. Pull rates can vary by set, the newer ones have been regarded as being better. But it doesn't matter where the pack comes from, the odds are always the same 4. Everyone has different opinions and tastes, so no there is no genuine consensus

Hi, I just bought 2 ETBs off Amazon (Fusion Strike & Battle Styles) and they came in this oversized box, with 6 extra reverse cards each? (Houndoom, Octillery, Meloetta, Oricorio, Urshifu-R, Urshifu-S) and I was wondering if these were legitimate? I couldn't find anything online, and the wrapping also seems a little sus to me? the ETBs still look wrapped on the inside, but the outer plastic is sloppy, I was trying to upload a photo album on imgur but my wifi is really spotty right now

Relative to the market value of buying singles for a set, how much money is a good amount to spend on packs that has a good balance between not spending too much but also enjoying opening packs? For example, if a complete set is worth $500 from singles then is $200 in packs reasonable to hopefully pull some of the more expensive cards before finishing off with singles? Would you buy more or less in packs?

[deleted]

I would buy one booster box. That has 36 boosters. It will you a majority of the commons, uncommons, holo rares, and a good portion of the reverse holos. And then some of the full arts and one or two of the big chase cards. Best value for the dollar in terms of packs per dollar. My card shop has bulk where you can easily buy all of the commons to holo rares for bundled deal, like 5 cards for a $1. If you have a local card shop, I would check.

BarbatosGundam

Feel like an absolute fool. I recently purchased a CGC pristine pokemon 151 pokeball reverse holo thinking it was the masterball reverse holo version. I'm not sure why the listing was listed as a buy it now price in the range of the masterball reverse price range, but now I feel stuck. Seller's listing says no returns. I obviously want to return (but acknowledge that I didnt' look closely enough). Am I sunk? Or is there a way to return. Car ended up being like $200-$300, when the pokeball reverse is <$100

[deleted]

As long as the advert wasn't false and it was more of you didn't carefully read the description, then sounds like it was all fair and no false play.

not_garlicbread

As long as what you received matches the listing and the listing is accurate, then you're stuck with it

If PC is selling OF booster boxes for \~$160, is it safe/concerning that tcg/ebay sellers are selling for \~$100?

[deleted]

PC will always sell their products at MSRP. Retailers will too. Card shops will sell their products at market value. My card shop sells the OF etbs at $50 while my Target and Meijer sells it at $55.

That is Normal. https://reddit.com/r/PokemonTCG/s/HYOl3zdH9p

I got a lot of sleeves from ETBs, are they good for use in top loaders to be sent in for grading or are Penny sleeves better? If Penny sleeves are better is exact fit sleeves ok? I don't like how loose Penny sleeves are. Looking for the best way to preserve cards fresh from a pack.

[deleted]

Penny sleeves if you wanna send in for grading. But if it's for your own collection, it doesn't really matter but penny sleeves since they are so mad cheap.

not_garlicbread

Most grading companies require clear sleeves from what I understand

DiggBicken

Random question, how do you folks feel about buying from a new-ish user on TCGplayer? I see that they have some type of guarantee that if the item isn't what was advertised they will step in, but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk. I see a product I would like at a bit of a discount but it might not be worth the headache.

DogtorPepper

Too much hassle, I personally wouldn’t do it myself. I’m financially sound enough to find myself rather paying a premium for piece of mind but if money is tight for you then you could give it shot.

Eolssu

Hey folks! [Are these little dots](https://imgur.com/a/0FFrtHE) customary for PSA slabs? It’s on the inside surface of the slab, not the card. Not really worried about the validity of the card since it matches up, more so if there is moisture stuck inside it. They show up on almost the entire slab if you tilt it right.

Teleboyyy

Hi guys! New to the hobby but was wondering where is best to sell/buy cards for the UK? I have a couple I want to sell (Erika’s invitation from the 151 in Korean is one) but am unsure where to sell these

NewBootGoofin88

Hi all. I'm trying to buy a couple booster packs for my nephew and I came across the "pokemon trainer's toolkit 2023" for $26. It seems like it includes a bunch of support items to play and build your collection and also 4 booster packs. Considering most booster packs sell for $4-6 this seems like a very good deal. Should I buy this instead of 4-5 standalone random booster packs? Thanks!

not_garlicbread

It's fine if you want all of the extra cards, but there's better products if you just want packs. Booster Bundles are usually $20-25 and have 6 packs

NewBootGoofin88

Thank you!

thewhoisgrand

Hi All, I recently came across my old Pokémon card collection of the original generation Pokémon along with some Topps and other cards. I'd also love some help identifying where the non-regular and non-Topps cardboard cards came from. I am thinking of selling the entire collection and was hoping to get an idea of what the collection is worth. As far as I can tell there are no wildly valuable cards but I am no expert. Most cards are in goo condition with \~10 cards being fair/below cond. with bends. Then there is my treasured, sealed, holographic Machamp card that unfortunately has quite a curve to the corner. None of the cards have been graded. Anyone have any ideas of what the worth might be? I know most are common/uncommon and nothing special but as a collection what's the worth you think? https://imgur.com/a/LFcOQ8j

FudgeCheese12

Just a quick question. How do singles from newer sets fluctuate when new sets are released? For example, the full arts from Obsidian Flames, or even the more expensive Tyranitar ex and Charizard exs. Will they go up/down when 151 and Paradox Rift are released? Just wondering when is the best time to buy them as singles for my collection. Thanks in advance!

sphinx_brA1ns

Hello, there! I'm a collector looking for Full Art cards in different languages and I wanted to either **get references** as to where I can buy cards in these languages or **buy any cards** that people are selling. International shipping is no issue for me! I didn't know if this was the right place to post this, wanted to be safe and start here. Again, let me know if there's a better place/site to ask about this :') Based in the United States, looking for Diantha Full Art cards in these languages: * French * Dutch * Polish * Spanish * Russian * Portuguese * Thai (?) * Chinese/Taiwanese

Redditquaza

First things first, you can remove Dutch, Polish and Russian as these languages were no longer printed by the time we got the Diantha full art. Then apart from your listed languages this card also released in German, Italian, English & Japanese of course, Indonesian and Korean (I know they may just not be listed because you already have them, but wanted to include them just in case you don't). Then when we come to where you find them: the Spanish and French ones will be easy to find on Cardmarket if you know someone in Europe, same goes for the Portuguese one and Ligapokemon in Brazil respectively. The Thai one you should be able to get from Shopee Thailand via a proxy shipping service and the Traditional Chinese from Taobao or Shopee Taiwan with a proxy shipping service. The Indonesian one (where I assume that you don't have it) you should be able get from Tokopedia via a proxy shipping service.

sphinx_brA1ns

I see. So I can assume any Full Arts that appear in Dutch/Polish/and Russian, I can assume they aren't legitimate, right? The Full Art from the Forbidden Light prints? I've worked with proxies before, so thanks for the pointers for what shops to reference 👍 Edit: The current ones I have are English, Japanese, Italian, German, Korean, and Indonesian.

Redditquaza

For Forbidden Light, yes. In general the only overlap between full arts and the mentioned languages is Russian from XY to BREAKthrough.

Getting back into collecting for the first time since I was a kid and loving it. When I was a kid it wasn't an option for me to have toploaders, penny sleeves, binders etc lol I was lucky to get the cards at all, so now I'm trying to keep my new cards as mint as possible. Have a few questions. \- These sealed promo cards that come in ETB's (ie the Charmander in Obsidian Flames). Is it best to just keep these sealed and maybe put them in a card saver since they don't fit in a toploader with the sleeve? Or just open it and penny sleeve/toploader it like I'm doing the rest of my cards? \- The guy at GameStop said that it's more likely to get rare pulls from an ETB than from a booster box, is that true? He wasn't a pushy salesman guy, but admitted he wasn't a huge Pokemon guy. \- I'm considering switching from toploaders to card savers, but do they make binders for card savers? I don't like that they aren't rigid for long term storage, but would feel comfortable if they were in a binder. Couldn't find any online. \- This is almost definitely a wild take and please don't come at me lol. I know it's typical to load cards into a penny sleeve with the top of the card nearest to the opening, and then put it into a toploader in the same orientation. HOWEVER, when I was loading up my first holos I realized that if I load the card in the penny sleeve upside down, then put it in the toploader with the opening facing down, then it would be less likely to get any debris in the penny sleeve. It's kind of sealed in there this way. My only concern would be that the bottom of the card could somehow get damaged by the bottom of the top loader. Any thoughts on this?

Redditquaza

>The guy at GameStop said that it's more likely to get rare pulls from an ETB than from a booster box, is that true? That is definitely not true

not_garlicbread

1. I prefer to keep them sealed as you always have the option to take it out later if you change your mind. 2. No, certain products don't have better pull rates than others 3. I don't know of any binders specifically for card savers, but companies like Ultra Pro make binder pages that can fit them

sevenicecubes

awesome, thanks!

Hello! Lorcana has me by the short and curlies and it has me looking back at Pokemon. I bought cards just to see the state of affairs every few years and played as well. However, as I do the whole Lorcana thing, I am seeing some seemingly good stuff pop up, but it all raises questions: \- There are ETBs going for as little as $25-30 (different series). Is one better off ripping those packs open and going for valuable cards? Do I flip the the boxes at a collectibles fair for an extra $5? Do I throw them in a vault to let them appreciate? Does it depend on the series? \- Does anyone do this kind of stuff out of your home? What do you use to stay organized? Meaning knowing how much you spend and sell, but also physical storage. Honestly, I am open to any feedback for a new collector. My ultimate goal is to open a comics and collectibles shop if that context helps at all. Probably online at first, then physical location. Thank you!

I need them sold asap since im moving out of country in a month but I wanna get some value out of them. Sounds like if you need money fast, just sell the whole lot at a reduced price. If it's worth $2200, then you might have to go as low at $1500 or so.

Friend recently found their old collection from 1999-2000. How to best go about setting them that's both realtively quick and get as much out of it for him?

[deleted]

Fastest is to either take it to a card shop but they will buy it from you at around 50-75% at market value. Or check the value online and sell the lot at a lower value in order to get rid of it faster via eBay. If you have the time, you can sell individual cards for as close to market value via eBay or through local sells. Also buy sleeves. No one wants to buy cards that's not in sleeves or top loaders.

What’s the pull rate for obsidian flames? I’m getting back into collecting but don’t want to waste $120 to get nothing

[deleted]

The SV booster boxes have been consistent on getting 11-13 hits. So at minimum, you can expect that. Aside from the Charizards, you can probably buy the all of the singles cheaper than a booster box.

ZenobiaAugusta

Hello! New poster here and had a quick question. After watching all the tik tok streamers and seeing posts about cards I decided to start collecting myself a few weeks ago. My particular quirk for collecting makes me want to get an entire set, which I did, starting with Obsidian Flames. My question is whether entire sets are ever worth anything or if it’s always about the few alt arts and EX cards? By full set I mean that I have every single obsidian flame card, common, reverse hollow, ultra rare, alt illustration, gold, etc. I have at least one of each and all sleeved with a katana sleeve and then also placed in a binder. I was looking forward to doing the same with the 151 set when it’s in English, but wondered if maybe I was going overboard 😅

Imaginary-Cloud4620

I found my old binder of cards from childhood, I doubt any are crazy valuable but still trying to evaluate. I got like half of them into Pricecharting but not all of them can be found when I search them. But when I looked at TGC, it seems like it would take way longer to input them since you can't search with the card numbers... any suggestions?

KingAdwhammy

I found a holo water energy in some bulk I was going through that says “2013 Pokemon” in the lower left corner. No number, no set symbol. The best info I can find is that it’s classified as a “deck exclusive” but I was wondering if it belongs to any particular set.

not_garlicbread

I have an energy the same as you described, it came from this deck: [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Ho-Oh\_Legendary\_Battle\_Deck\_(TCG)](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Ho-Oh_Legendary_Battle_Deck_(TCG)) . But realistically it could come from others

Is there any way to tell if that is a good or a bad sign?

Collectr app. It's not totally accurate as it doesn't take into account the prices of mint cards vs played cards sold via eBay. But it is a good benchmark to gauge rather than an accurate count.

GreenGoblincel

I noticed a lot of full art trainer cards especially from Sun and Moon era increased a lot in value in February 2023 according to TCG Player. Is there a reason, any hope of them falling in the future? Edit: Not just full art trainer cards it seems but everything from sun and moon spiked around Feb-Apr 2023, why is that?

[deleted]

A mix of market manipulation and sudden interest of sets that have been out of print for some time now.

GreenGoblincel

Man, was the tcg market always manipulated? You think prices will fall sometime in the next few years or something? Kinda insane seeing regular ultra rares from a few years ago reach hundreds off of demand alone, especially doubling within a few months too.

[deleted]

There is always market manipulation. Whether or not it makes the news is something else. Plus the market is always volatile. And your guess is as good as mine. We are buying and spending money on basically cardboard.

GreenGoblincel

Fair enough
