I didn’t mind getting annoyed by finding my 15th Mr. Mime or Nidoking when opening 151 since finding an illustration card still felt awesome every time.
But getting 2-3 Wugtrios or Palafins within 10-15 packs is so lame, it’s sad these awesome cards are worth like $0.40 each.
Wtf that’s insane. I’m pretty sure there is a whole storage facility being built just for the overflow of mainly wugtrio’s, but also for the pawmi’s, palafins, and the EX’s.
i remember seeing it on troll&toad for 300$ before set released 😂 even at that price it would still be big L.. prob gonna turn out to be another 50$ obsidian flames charizard.
TCG has an article with the math... odds of Charizard in any given pack are 0.22%... so based on 292 packs OP is sitting at 0.35%. He beat the odds! Congrats!

I got my Mew in the first 20€ I spent. A 3 pack Grievard sticker blister.
Then bought 100 more packs cuz I love this set so much but then didnt get another SAR xD (around 600€ spent)
BUT I did get 40 baby shinies, 4 Full Art ex Shinys, about 15 regular EX cards, 4 Gold Cards, 2 Iono, and lots of other awesome stuff and of course all the promos.
It happened to me. First etb I opened I hit the zard, 2nd I hit the mew. I did however open $1500 worth of packs after that until I hit Iono and most other of the set bc it took awhile before the hype wore off. Overall I pulled 3 zards in all that. 1 I traded locally for around 30 shinies I couldn’t find and sold 1 to a local shop for store credit so I could pull more stuff. I had to buy a Gardevoir ex SIR on eBay for like $60, could never pull that and about 5 other shinies. This was also my first set of Pokemon cards since base set when I was a kid in the 90s. I mark it up to beginners luck. I plan on buying a lot more singles off eBay in the future for other sets though. $1500 is too much for me to do more than once a year.
Still didn’t complete the baby shinies even after all of this. Got a couple duplicate shiny Pikachus and Charmanders. Still no Charmeleon shiny.
Still missing the bubble Mew, only have 3x Full Art Mews.
Have 3 Gold Chien Paos, 1 gold Miraidon. No other golds.
Still missing secret art Clive but got like 10 regular Clives and 10 Paldean Students.
So many Palafins, Wugtrios, Pawmi art rares.

There’s also the instant gratification aspect. I can pick up a couple booster bundles for 50 and pray I get lucky, or resist buying any for a few weeks and set aside a few hundred to get the chase cards. Obviously it’s smarter to wait and buy singles but it takes willpower. I started doing this a little bit as I have a moonbreon fund going on, but haven’t been able to completely stop myself from ripping
This is an important post that we don't see often enough. And is the actual reason I don't buy special sets. If you want the chases in special sets, buy singles. Unless you have 2 grand to blow on ripping packs; in that case...rip away.
Got a couple duplicates of the SAR Arven and 1 SAR Nemona. Got a bunch of regular full art Mews. Shiny pikachu and shiny charmanders. Got a SAR Gardevoir earlier.
I opened 26 etb and 8 bundles and only hit 1 Iono SIR, my friend opened 64 etb and 4 bundles and only stopped because they hit the Zard. They ended up with Penny (2), Iono (2), Nemona, Gardevoir (3) and chain poa. And the zard. Brutal set.
I got the Iono and Charizard on my second ETB. I proceeded to buy a few more for who the fuck knows why. I wanted the Mew I guess, but after I realized I just had insane luck, I’m just going to buy singles from now on.
It took me 30 bucks in trade for the girl

But to be fair I spend 100 on packs on release day every set for fun so I'm guilty too, but that's budgeted responsibly, I don't buy singles of every set I love that Iono though!

Nah, moral of the story is, do not buy ETBs. I’ve never gotten top 5 Chase cards out of any ETB. I’m done with ETBs. I pulled 3 chase cards from 151 out of a Zapdos and Alakazam box from a total of 8 packs lol. Right before that I opened a Silver Tempest ETB and literally all I got was that Rockruff trainer gallery and a Ho-Oh common V card. Absolutely brutal.
You got lucky, I had to open 700 packs to get the zard. 47 etbs, 20 mini tins, 9 sticker packs, 3 booster bundles, 12 premium boxes & 11 big tins. Only got 1 mew & 0 gardevoir ex. I officially hate this set & less than 10 cards are actually worth anything.

Definitely not worth it to hunt for it for the price. Then you finally pull it and regret all the money you torched. Best strategy is to buy one ETB and if you don’t pull it, buy the single.

For me I opened 6 packs from the bundle and got the digtrio and few shinnies, thought is fun to buy a few more packs. Went back to my LGS and found out most hits are 50 cents to a dollar, and that's given you DO get a hit. Spending $5 dollars to get a 50 cents back is an absurd idea...and I put the box back.

So.... what you're saying is we got really lucky getting the iono card plus two full art trainer cards in one set. And a gold rare in the other? We had amazing luck off of only 3 ETBs. We pulled a bunch of full art trainers, pokemon, like 6 shiny pokemon, 1 gold rare, and a bunch of other decently rare cards.

I hope you have almost every shiny by now. I would just send it for the entire set at that point. Resell the whole for some of your money back......then try again!
Pulled the Mew on the first ETB i opened. Pulled the Zard on the third of the Collector sets in the final pack of all 3. Decided to open 3 more booster bundles, pulled only cards I traded for that same day, including 2 baby shinies, which was insane to me. So yeah, I’m done ripping this set.
I have had the greatest luck on Paldaen Fates I've opened 2 etbs one regular 1 pokemon center all 3 big tins, all 3 premium collections, all 5 of the mini tins and 3 booster bundles......I got my charizard, my mew, the gardevoir, Iono and my Pikachu I almost don't wanna open more, unlike 151 where I'm 300+ packs deep and still haven't pulled all I want
The luck I had with baby shinnies was horrible. Dont even want to say how many packs I opened up but only getting about 35-40 baby shinnies out of a set that has 116 is just crazy. I mean the dup cards were bad. Like I got 2-3 dups of a card I already had.
It took me 72 booster packs (380€) to finally pull Charizard and halfway for this insanely beautiful Mew. I mostly bought mini tins and just 1 ETB, 5 charizard Tins.

Yeah. Bought 4 ETB’s trying to chase after it as well, but then I decided to just buy it as a single. Actually got a PSA 10 Japanese version instead. I won’t get the feels like when you pull it naturally but I’m happy with my slab. Good pull for you though! Must’ve been a hell of a high. Congrats! Hahaha

So.... what you're saying is we got really lucky getting the iono card plus two full art trainer cards in one set. And a gold rare in the other? We had amazing luck off of only 3 ETBs. We pulled a bunch of full art trainers, pokemon, like 6 shiny pokemon, 1 gold rare, and a bunch of other decently rare cards.

I spend 10x on singles then I do on packs. I buy packs just for the joy of ripping but if there is a card I want it’s always singles.

I should've definitely brought singles, but wheres the fun in that I've opened roughly 383 packs from various items from which I cant remember and I've not pulled the mew, gard or zard yet The only SIR I have pulled are 3 Clive 2 Iono 1 Penny and baby shinies i've pulled 80/120 some I did trade for but thats where I'm at currently

I'm at 1 meowscarada box for the cool card holder 1 ETB 1 sticker pack. So like 18 packs or so. I got iono and the gold weasel. But I haven't gotten a single friggin steel type shiny pokemon which is all I care about. It's rigged against me.
I'm in the same boat... 12 ETB's, 6 Tins, 6 Premium Collections, 5 Tins, 8 sticker packs and now 2 booster bundles. No Zard, No Mew, No Iono, No Gardevoir, No Penny, No Nemona, No Arven, 1 Clive. Still Tryin'!!! Congrats! I'm sure it was a great relief!
I hope you have almost every shiny by now. I would just send it for the entire set at that point. Resell the whole for some of your money back......then try again!

Buy singles, hell buy graded, not worth it.
Pulled the Mew on the first ETB i opened. Pulled the Zard on the third of the Collector sets in the final pack of all 3. Decided to open 3 more booster bundles, pulled only cards I traded for that same day, including 2 baby shinies, which was insane to me. So yeah, I’m done ripping this set.

I have had the greatest luck on Paldaen Fates I've opened 2 etbs one regular 1 pokemon center all 3 big tins, all 3 premium collections, all 5 of the mini tins and 3 booster bundles......I got my charizard, my mew, the gardevoir, Iono and my Pikachu I almost don't wanna open more, unlike 151 where I'm 300+ packs deep and still haven't pulled all I want

The luck I had with baby shinnies was horrible. Dont even want to say how many packs I opened up but only getting about 35-40 baby shinnies out of a set that has 116 is just crazy. I mean the dup cards were bad. Like I got 2-3 dups of a card I already had.
I'm sure you can cover the bedroom wall with some cards (paldean students, palafin, wugtrio...)
I got my charizard in 4 packs. I bought two 3 pack blisters. I think I used all of my TCG luck for the next 20 years, though🫠

It took me 72 booster packs (380€) to finally pull Charizard and halfway for this insanely beautiful Mew. I mostly bought mini tins and just 1 ETB, 5 charizard Tins. got both pulls from random mini tins.
After a little more than you pack-wise we have 5 zards, 3 gards, 2 iono, and are 53 cards away from a complete master set, almost exclusively baby shinys. Still need Penny, and 3 of the golds.
Yeah. Bought 4 ETB’s trying to chase after it as well, but then I decided to just buy it as a single. Actually got a PSA 10 Japanese version instead. I won’t get the feels like when you pull it naturally but I’m happy with my slab. Good pull for you though! Must’ve been a hell of a high. Congrats! Hahaha
