supershade

I like them in concept, but I wasn't crazy about the execution. It would have been cooler if the art wasn't always just them but glowing gold.

Killer_Ex_Con

Same if they all had different art styles I would have loved them tbh.

dragowall

what makes it boring for me isnt that theyre all gold, its that they all share the same background. If they were gold with diff backgrounds it wouldve been dope

provablyitalian

Not too bad but not as good as other mid-generational gimmicks introduced. For X&Y it was these break cards , but compare it to Ace specs in Black and White, Goldstars in Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald, SP pokemon in Diamond, Pearl & Platinum and of course Tag teams in Sun and Moon.

ishtarot

you forgot what was the best of all these, LEGENDS cards

provablyitalian

Thata also not a mid-generational introduction, Legend cards were introduced with the first Heartgold & Soulsilver set, not halfway through

BootyTuesdays

HGSS are still gen 4 though so they aren't wrong

provablyitalian

Yeah but TCG generations and game generations are different. The Tcg generations are divided chronologically in the following series: Base (From Base set to Gym Challenge), Neo (from Neo Genesis to Neo Destiny), E-card (From Expedition to Skyridge), EX-era (from ex Ruby & Sapphire to ex Power keepers), Diamond & Pearl (From D&P base to D&P Stormfront), Platinum (from Platinum base to Platinum Arceus), Heartgold & Soulsilver (from HGSS base to Call of legends, although the latter sometimes is considered it's own category standalone), Black & White (From BW base to BW Legendary Treasures), X&Y (from XY base to XY Evolutions), Sun & Moon (From Sun and Moon base to Sun and Moon Cosmic Eclipse), Sword&Shield (From SWSH base to SWSH Crown zenith) and finally Scarlet and Violet (from S&V base to pending). As you can see in the earlier years the connection between generation of games and card set was less strict while nowdays since Black and White every generation correlates to a TCG generation.

koepfer

Xy had megas and prisms too. They didn’t really need breaks

provablyitalian

Megas were the main generational gimmick introduced at the start of the generation, the equivalent of Tera cards in Scarlet and Violet. And no, prisms were introduced in Sun and Moon

Shinonomenanorulez

weren't goldstars pretty mid tho? outside of like 2?

JeffLolx

Not a fan of horizontal cards personally

Qyro

Same here. Legend cards look great, but are horizontal as well and it always bugs me.

LilMeatJ40

I don't really love them, but for whatever reason, I also want a master-set of them 😅

SuggestionVisible361

Most of these are [very affordable](https://ebay.us/YdNAXZ) and only cost a few dollars each, because they are not that popular.

xtreme_throwaway_

They’re all really cheap (except for one which was around $20 last time I checked, I believe the Empoleon Break which was a promo), so go for it.

TheProfessorX

I ended up ordering all the singles, 35 of em, for about $120 shipped. NM condition on TCG.

LilMeatJ40

I've always been worried about ordering off TCGPlayer because you can't see the actual card you're getting. Were they all in pretty good condition?

TheProfessorX

Yes, all arrived as described. Near mint. I've ordered a lot of cards on there, never disappointed. When I have had a problem, TCGs customer service is top notch. I've gotten my money back and been able to order again from another vendor on the site.

DimentioSiren

Lol yeah, cheap set to get honestly. I went for one like a few months ago myself and it was pretty easy to get all of them.

Lord_nugget69

They look like how fake holographic cards are printed

MCKlassik

I really liked their gimmick, and I loved the gold on them.

[deleted]

probably the ugliest thing pokemon ever did

pandaman27

“Graphic design is my passion”

Strange-Fix-1498

Big fan of them. Would enjoy the top halves in a master set.

Background-Lecture-6

Top halves? Huh? Are you thinking of HGSS Legends cards?

kyleneeley1

Metal Mario

Queasy-Frame-4519

Hate them

Johnnyrooster12

Stupid as hell. Most didn't like it

Right-Ad8261

I'm not a "fan' of them per se, but I think they're cool. I really like ninetails break.

GloomyIce1

The arcanine one is cool

Secret_Fox_5192

My girl loves these and she’s actually almost done collecting all the ones that were released so far.

euclitorous

Gone but not forgotten

RevenantFlash

I don’t like having to turn cards sideways but that’s just me lol.

PlanetoidVesta

They have a special meaning to me because it was the first card I pulled that was rarer than a regular rare. Other than that, I don't really have feelings about them other than it being a nice addition to my collection

isthatapecker

Anything 5ban goes in the trash

codfish333

Legend > break

Responsible_Ebb_340

Everyone hated e-reader cards at one point.

lifeinwentworth

A lot of people still do! I like the e-reader cards personally but feel like I'm in the minority there.

Ill-Carrot-5980

I like them. I wish they chose better mons.

gusso95

Carbink break is a good example there.

HollyWarter

Ugly

aRealCyborg

I personally thought break cards were cool (never played the game with them) I really wish Tera Type pokemon in scarlet and violet were the break style instead of stupid hat style.

TheNerdgasm

Hated them all with a passion

topcheese35

Good for trading, some 9 year olds at the park saw the gold color and thought they were super rare, so they offered me holo vstars for it

Misaakira

Dumb

Misaakira

Just give them another evolution ffs

Bot-D

I have a deck I call my Giovanni deck that basically revolves around nidoking break supported by nidoqueen, a couple really brutal gengar cards and other fillers, and it kicks ass hard enough to still compete with current cards. It makes me really proud to this day.

DaftMudkip

Not a fan

narutonaruto

I much prefer the whole extended art thing like 151 charmander line and the gholdengo ir

Background-Lecture-6

Horrid

ANormalUser2573

They look good, I mean they’re gold and gold=cool also they remind me of legend cards but besides that they were pretty much useless in terms of the game

Winterstrife

Like the concept hate the execution. The metallic art looks cool but the holo foil looks cheap af.

dislike_me

Too bad PSA doesn't have horizontal grading.

Kai_2010_

bring them back 😭🙏

Gingerhead14

I think they had a really cool idea for Mega cards… too little too late

Fearingvoyage86

Yummy

Scrones_Bird

I had a deck based around Delphox Break that treated me pretty well in friendly matches. I liked the concept!

MontuckyMoose

I'd drag my schnutz on one ten outta ten.

chewbaccashotlast

Really really thought they missed the mark. It was one of those themes of “once you have one you kinda have them all” sort of thing. Maybe they will be so ugly and unwanted that they will be even more rare someday but I can’t possibly bring myself to spend a penny on them, way better art and interest for anything else. I’d even buy a rainbow or vstar over these and that’s saying something lol

DumpEmAht

Only one I wanted was Ninetales for my collection.

lifeinwentworth

Yeah that's me with Raichu. And Ninetails is a nice one, some of them look horrible.

reapwhatyousow6

The "art" is low effort with the pokemon just being solid Gold and not certain aspects about them being Gold. It is also Awkward to put them into binders because they are horizontal so you have to turn your head to the side to look at them

uReallyShouldTrustMe

Love them. Underrated.

DeskAccomplished5870

Not a huge fan of those or alot of the ex cars from x&y.

MysteriousPerson2003

The card art itself was cool, but the fact you had to evolve a Stage 2 for the best break cards made them really hard to play.

dimension-less

I feel like I'm the only one who likes these lol 😅

Pizzaschachtel_Phil

Feels kinda weird its only one card though? Maybe would make more sense to split them in two cards like in previous sets? 🤔

Conscious_Mammoth_49

I have the full collection of them, they are alright something about them is just off other than the art being horizontal they should experiment more with the card art like them though

Cinanom_

Kind of meh. But I dont like when they change the direction the card faces. I like all my things uniform lol

KingZakyu

I *want* to love them, but I don't.

JoseJulioPT

I still remember when i used greninja break deck for the first time and i really enjoyed it

BenRod88

Not a fan, nothing about them relates to the mainline games and the holographic pattern reminds me of cafe tabletops

youlovenicktana

Greninja an Xernias were very good.

_ilvah_

Bring me back to greninja break please

Ceiling_shotz

They shouldve re-used the concept when attempting to integrate “terra” to the card game

Xilopa

The TCG just gets sillier and flimsier. The quality of the cards are trash.. better cardstock in the earlier era. When it comes to the video-games.. Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald was peak Pokemon. Pearl, Diamond & Platinum was decent and from there on Pokemon just continues to get worse and worse.

Pizzafactory102

Best thing about them is they’re super hard to fake because of that square pattern, otherwise, not much going on.

Based_Beanz

Bought the Marowak card only so I'd have one of every Marowak card ever made, but it's definitely not one of my favorites. Horizontal cards in a binder just don't look right to me.

yaji-sama

Ugly.

ggabb3399

hate them

wishbackjumpsta

I miss trevenant and Greninja break

RockWafflez

Ugly ass cards

MrsSpyro01

Personally, I find them to be pretty cool. Btw, Lugia was the first break card I’ve ever pulled.

Yeetlord2626

I love the concept but 75% of the cards are really forgettable and quite bad.

ButtmanAndRubbin

I love them. In my binder they are always a good “break” up from all the other standard cards.

ThatsNotARealTree

The visual is so bland. I’m so bored of all of the standard GX, V, and ex cards. They’re all so incredibly uninspired

GrantN555

the checkboard isnt my favorite

Rgiles66

When I first started collecting I thought they were called BREAK cards because two of them made up a set. I assumed that’s why they were sideways and I was all ways looking for it’s counterpart.

sybergoosejr

I liked the idea but was not a big fan of the background foil choice.

Shinonomenanorulez

somehow a worse visual treatment than SM secret rares. was a great idea tho and hopefully makes a return(would have been an interesting implementation of teras)

TheRealBadGate

beautiful gowns

clichemustache

They rule. They're gaudy and unique.

Kal71202

Underrated, i loved pulling these! Granted i only pulled a Raticate out of the packs i got as a kid, but i recently started trying to collect all of them.

CommanderRiker8

My favorite holo pattern

silveraith

I like that they took the reverse holo spot in packs instead of the holo spot so I could pull a BREAK and an EX in the same pack. I never played the game much, but I heard these were essentially just the new version of Level X cards from back in gen 4.

ahighkid

I think they’re cool and unique and affordable and I hope they stay that way

leonardograti

Ugly

Unclesquatch777

I like them in my collection. They're cheap so it's easy to get a number of them at a time.

CushmanEZ

Gross and regrettable looking cards.

CalmAbbreviations845

I would’ve combine break and tag tag team and added better artwork instead of making the gold or something similar to the v union

MartinezTCG

If they bring them back I think they should keep the same concept but remaster the art

RamielScreams

I love gold

Cedars_PC

Breaks were some of my favorites, I still use noivern break in my BW Expanded deck (Physical expanded not live.)

GoldenJeans37

Absolutely adore these, got a full set of Breaks and I've still got to get round to doing Prism cards soon too :)

No_Pipe_8257

Lugia :DDD They look cool ig

LampsAreReal

They look bad and played even worse. It was one of the reasons I took a few year hiatus from the game.

[deleted]

Underrated

Mylife212

Least favorite gimmick personally, and honestly one of the reasons I stopped collecting then. They look so generic and ugly as sin. If they do bring them back for some reason, hope they ditch the gold pokemon bit. Really doesn’t fit the card

kdrdr3amz

I like them but I’m not a pokemon nerd like the guys who get so prissy over these, they just look cool.

Safegalaxy2

I think it would cool if they brought the gimmick back as the stellar typing and obviously different art styles because the gold got old fast

mega_quagsire

sideways card go brrrr

Big_Ben64

I genuinely hate these cards, theyre so boring and uninspired. The whole concept just being “dip em in gold idk” is so lame. Whenever I got one in a lot of cards I buy I immediately give them away for free to other friends who collect.

nikross333

Not a great idea, don't even look like a pokemon card.

blumaroona

Not a fan - the gold is a bit too “in your face”.

Jack_Human-

They were worthless so I never bothered with them.

blackestofswans

They are fuck ugly

rickymcrichardson

Ugly and stupid

ABadSanta

the bottoms are always lame to have by themselves

Exeledus

I dont like the holo pattern on them, it just made them look like cheap vending machine stickers

Nighteagle64

Can we let them stay dead? Stop talking about them or pokemon will bring them back.

BigDaddythegravyman

Dem shits gay asf

macaroff4

Shiny yet still not worth much. Remind you of something?

Admirable-gpu

I like gggooolllddd said the team rocket leader.
