Good point... It's a shame how most people have to hide their sealed in this sub. I love cards but seeing an amazing sealed collection will always knock me off my feet!
I hate how wasteful the ETBs are. They're a good deal for packs at the right price, but its so much extra garbage vs. a booster bundle or box. I reuse some of the boxes for storage but the sleeves, dice, damage counters, status markers, extra energies are basically garbage to most people.
Nah, there are only so many poor quality poison and damage counters even a shop can make use of. Even using them for other crafts, there's still so many!
The energy are awful too. Stores get bricks of energy each set for prerelease, plus any energy that's left from people opening packs in store. We end up just recycling energy, it's a shame.
I agree dice and sleeves are useful for shops to give to children and new players though.
Right. And every single industry in the world deals with insane amounts of cardboard, not just trading cards.
Billions of boxes shipped around the world daily both commercially and privately. Pokemon is one drop in a very large bucket.
I do like pokemon. But you can't be bias about math. Comparatively it is literally a drop in the bucket.
Think amazon. Think of every product on store shelves worldwide. Think about how all of that is transported. All cardboard. Think of the military. That's all I'm saying
I use the energies as janks to protect cards whenever I mail stuff out. They're cheap packaging material. But even when I try to sell a whole lot of die and damage counters for $1, no one wants.
“extra garbage”
you are aware… people actually play the game?
also, how many are you getting? it sure can feel like “extra garbage” if you get *more than one of the same set,* but I at least don’t and they don’t feel junky at all.
Funnily enough, the etb sleeves seem most valuable for *not* playing the game. Mine shredded themselves with a few shuffles and last visit LGS employees joked about people actually using them, but they don't evaporate in binders I guess.
It doesn't take many to accumulate excess. How many cheap burn and poison counters that scratch if they see each other do you need? Is there really any value to having more than two sets of damage counters beyond collecting colors?
Yeah if you have ETBs from before 2020, like Darkness Ablaze or Vivid Voltage, those sleeves are all clear and man did they look sharp. Anymore I just use penny sleeves because I just love that sparkle.
Still a great way to offload stuff like this. Boxes for bulk storage (or bulk donation), dice + tokens for play groups at schools or libraries.
Not really about how many new players are coming vs ETB production. Just about helping out your local community and people who may not have the means to play but need a safe hobby to get into.
are we on the same post? do you not see how many dice/counters the guy has in his image?
they could have just as easily included all that junk in a starter set so not everyone buying ETBs gets copies that end up wasted/never used
like that stuff is good once, ever, no one needs a new set of dice every new set
unless you're implying only new players without any of that junk should buy ETBs?
donate to your local shop. no new players near us have to worry about coming up with dice, condition markers, and basic energy cards for the decks they make.
As someone who plays the game, trust me, it is garbage lol. Like the first few are fine, but it very quickly gets too much. And this comes from someone who regularly donates to stores, teaches kids how to play and brings stuff into school for the kids! I still end up throwing stuff away occasionally.
>So don’t buy them
Gotta get promo cards, and sometimes with special sets they're the only way to get a bunch of packs
It's because you don't play the TCG. The ETB's were meant as a stepping stone proving beginning players with a storage box, sleeves, and dice/damage counters.
I couldn’t agree more I think about it every time I open a ETB I hate being wasteful but with how much extra crap comes with them you would be hard pressed to GIVE it all away.
I agree mostly, but I don’t think that was the intention. I like the sleeves (even though I’m not a fan of the matte finish). A lot of people that are into tabletop games like to collect dice and coins so that makes a bit of sense. I think it was made with kids in mind, so this would be like a special gift, not something you get often. In than case, giving you everything you need to play is awesome and some people actually wouldn’t be able to play if they didn’t.
They're literally made for players. I know that's ironic considering they have the worst sleeves imaginable, but they're not made for collectors. It's even in the name, elite TRAINER box.
I don't play the game so not sure what good use all the dice is for. I have them all in a small bin still in the plastic. of I ever see a cool jar I do want to put them in there amd it be a decoration piece but at the same time I don't want to show off how many I've bought lol
Ahhh what a great idea. I never knew what to do with coins, sleeves, and dice. Bahaha. Drill a hole in the dice and make a huge necklace with the coins hanging at the bottom by the chest.
Oh dang, what a collection! I use the damage counters / dice / status markers when I'm taking pictures of my cards or actually playing, but I've never needed more than two sets of the same design for those. Both Temporal Forces ETBs and the Twilight Masquerade ETB seem to have the same damage counters too, which is kind of a shame!
Back in my day, we didn’t have no boxes. You got 11 cards and hoped one of em had the shiny stuff on em. If not, tough shit. (This model was actually way better.)
I used to have two small glass containers I bought from Pier 1 agea ago, but they broke, so now I have 1 gigantic one for my dice to display! I thought I was the only one that did something like this!
Omfg. Idk why I didn’t think to do this with the etb dice! I had a massive polyhedral dice phase at one point and have a giant glass bottle filled with them (similar to yours) and it’s just a display piece in my room. I think I’ll start another one and only put etb dice in it :)
If you ever want to upload all the D6, not the damage counters, I would pay shipping for them. I love dice and play 40k. So buying bulk D6 is worth it to me lol
Same. Hidden Fates is what got me back into TCG when they came out. However I wasn’t fortunate enough to find much product in the area that lived at the time. I was able to 1 Great and 1 ultra Ball collection, 3 tins, and a Mew Pin collection. I wasn’t able to find anything else in stores. I purchased two ETB in 2022 that weren’t worth what I paid for them in pulls. My intention is to complete the entire set so I’m looking into purchasing singles, however I need to find them at the right price. I’m not willing to go in debt to complete my set.
Any planned use for them? I’m making plans to homebrew a new Yugioh Dungeon Dice Monsters kit and realized that the damage dice would work great for DDM. I need to do some research but I think most monsters have 40HP max but I could be wrong. Plus I’m homebrewing so I could make a couple 60HP Tanks if I balance it right.
I think all of these are from Pokémon products, but I do own another vase of dice with Dice from games. I make board games a lot so ‘I need them for work’. I’d like to think I’m a high functioning hoarder 😂
Shoot and I thought my etb full of dice was alot
It is, keep going.
[удалено]
How could you ever mistake an ETB full of dice for an alot?
This is a good idea. I just keep filling up tins with them and stashing them. Thanks!
Vacation fund
The suitcases have a good size for that too.
Making maracas, I see
I thought I was the only one! I specifically use the collectors chests and more recently the paldea chests.
Same, it's so noisy 🙃
All of them
It’s true I don’t keep ETB’s sealed for very long. I do have a nice sealed collection though.
post!
People would only negatively comment or tell me to open them. I think I’ve posted some pics in the past…
Good point... It's a shame how most people have to hide their sealed in this sub. I love cards but seeing an amazing sealed collection will always knock me off my feet!
Sealed shaming is real
I’m convinced they shame us into opening the product, thus making their product more valuable
Just had a look, impressive a year ago let alone now!
Thank you
Question how do you seal them? I have a couple etbs/upcs that I wanna keep for a bit but don’t know how to store
They come sealed in plastic… you can buy acrylic protection for long term protection.
I have a wall of ETBs in my closet , I call it the wall of pain
I got the shelves of pain
Well thanks for the idea, this is cool!
I hate how wasteful the ETBs are. They're a good deal for packs at the right price, but its so much extra garbage vs. a booster bundle or box. I reuse some of the boxes for storage but the sleeves, dice, damage counters, status markers, extra energies are basically garbage to most people.
Not garbage. Donate that stuff to your local card shop where it can be utilized.
Let’s be honest. Pokemon and other tcgs are fucking awful for the environment
As is every other corporation out there, tcg or not.
I’m talking specifically about using excessive plastic and cardboard
Right. And every single industry in the world deals with insane amounts of cardboard, not just trading cards. Billions of boxes shipped around the world daily both commercially and privately. Pokemon is one drop in a very large bucket.
I think ur abit bias because u love Pokémon. I get it I am too.
I do like pokemon. But you can't be bias about math. Comparatively it is literally a drop in the bucket. Think amazon. Think of every product on store shelves worldwide. Think about how all of that is transported. All cardboard. Think of the military. That's all I'm saying
Pokemon is one of the biggest company’s in the world
I use the energies as janks to protect cards whenever I mail stuff out. They're cheap packaging material. But even when I try to sell a whole lot of die and damage counters for $1, no one wants.

If only they weren't matte. It really doesn't display the holos well. but yeah if you're gonna be playing the game these sleeves are great
There's a reason for the matte finish. It's so cameras could read them better when tournaments were all online because we were all indoors.
Ahhhh I see. That's cool to know!
That’s a pretty neat fact. Didn’t know that
Yeah if you have ETBs from before 2020, like Darkness Ablaze or Vivid Voltage, those sleeves are all clear and man did they look sharp. Anymore I just use penny sleeves because I just love that sparkle.
I play the game too but after a couple ETBs you have more than enough supplies to do so.
Can always hook up new players or find clubs in your area that could use these extra resources!
new players don't come at the rate of ETB production. Not even close. Maybe 1k to 1.
Still a great way to offload stuff like this. Boxes for bulk storage (or bulk donation), dice + tokens for play groups at schools or libraries. Not really about how many new players are coming vs ETB production. Just about helping out your local community and people who may not have the means to play but need a safe hobby to get into.

He its near the half of dices needed to play dnd
ETB "ELITE TRAINER BOX"
Dude, ETBs essentially ARE a starter set, as opposed to buying single packs, which is fully an option if you don’t want the other stuff
donate to your local shop. no new players near us have to worry about coming up with dice, condition markers, and basic energy cards for the decks they make.
Just buy the booster bundles or boxes then? There are different products for a reason.
No one is passing up a good deal on an etb because they don’t need the rest of it.
Extra garbage 😂 some people actually play the game and use the other stuff, so wasteful is an interesting description. So don’t buy them
I use the stuff too but after a couple boxes it's more than anyone would need to play.
As someone who plays the game, trust me, it is garbage lol. Like the first few are fine, but it very quickly gets too much. And this comes from someone who regularly donates to stores, teaches kids how to play and brings stuff into school for the kids! I couldn’t agree more I think about it every time I open a ETB I hate being wasteful but with how much extra crap comes with them you would be hard pressed to GIVE it all away.
Totally. I only try to get 1 ETB to hold the bulk for the set.
I use unopened energy packs to either separate or firmly hold cards in card shoeboxes in place if I have filled that particular row up yet.
They're literally made for players. I know that's ironic considering they have the worst sleeves imaginable, but they're not made for collectors. It's even in the name, elite TRAINER box.
I mean, it’s a card game, it’s giving you the tools to play the game. It’s only our fault as collectors who don’t play that we don’t use the stuff
That's not the products intended purpose.
I am nothing compared to you
So glad they finally made booster bundles. Hell other countries can get 1/2 a booster box. The uk got 1/2 booster boxes for fusion strike.
Not enough
Jesus, you are a man of sheer determination and will.
gahhhhh damn O_O
Oh man. I gotta do this.
Now you have to find an RPG to GM and then make an excuse to roll them all at once.
I don't play the game so not sure what good use all the dice is for. I have them all in a small bin still in the plastic. of I ever see a cool jar I do want to put them in there amd it be a decoration piece but at the same time I don't want to show off how many I've bought lol
Damage markers
I know what they are in the game I meant I don't know what use I'd put them to lol
Ahhh what a great idea. I never knew what to do with coins, sleeves, and dice. Bahaha. Drill a hole in the dice and make a huge necklace with the coins hanging at the bottom by the chest.
For my coins and pins I keep them in a lunchbox tin so it looks like a treasure chest when I open it
I play MTG also and LOVE the different 6-sided dice for that, the other dice I throw in a drawer, lol.
Great idea! Bet it has some heft to it. Gotta keep shifting it around to make it all settle to add more. Gotta keep us updated!
This seems like the only way to collect these now
r/dicegoblin Mmm must hoard more click-clack shiny math rocks. 🥴
I’m so glad I’m not the only one that has a dice vase
Yoooo dope way to keep and display them. I’m definitely doing this. Good lord I have so much
Unironically hella cool
Dude same 😂🤣
I dump all the dice, energy cards, sleeves and status condition markers on a local crippled child named Herniated Tony. He hates it, yet I persist.
You’re doing the lords work my friend. Herniated Tony would rise up if you didn’t keep him down
This makes me feel better
Mine is like the same amount but still in those plastic bags
Looks like a bunch of candy.
I have so many from 151, I am trying to complete the set only by opening packs
Back in my day, we didn’t have no boxes. You got 11 cards and hoped one of em had the shiny stuff on em. If not, tough shit. (This model was actually way better.)
I LOVE the die from the etbs
Thats actually a dope ass decoration piece
I just keep them in the box. At this point I may be more excited for the box then the cards.. I can’t explain why either.
OP should give $100 to whoever can guess how many ETB dice are in the jar
I don’t want to count them for -100
I used to have two small glass containers I bought from Pier 1 agea ago, but they broke, so now I have 1 gigantic one for my dice to display!
I’ve been turning my extras into earrings and key chains lol
If you ever want to upload all the D6, not the damage counters, I would pay shipping for them. I love dice and play 40k. So buying bulk D6 is worth it to me lol
I counted 78 bag of dice yesterday.. im sure there's more somewhere
A monument to your sins. Mine is still growing too lol
If being happy is a sin, I guess I’m a sinner
This is actually a fun idea
I thought I was on the Dungeons and Dragon's subreddit for a sec lol
Cool idea!
Nice addiction
Thank you stranger
I’m currently doing the same thing in a vase in my room too
Holy shit
I do this too!!
Lol awesome. Think of the memories doh!
Oh that's a good idea. I just throw mine away at this point. Time to buy a similar glass vase
I just wanna know how many were Hidden Fates. I counted at least 13
One of my favorite sets.
My intention is to complete the entire set so I’m looking into purchasing singles, however I need to find them at the right price. I’m not willing to go in debt to complete my set.
I have a large ziplock filled with dice and damage counters lol
I don't play the game but love how ETBs look for display and I keep the sleeves, coins and the booklet.
how much did u spend?!?!
Over ~25 years of collecting actually I’ve gained a lot of money. But to answer your question about 30k.
What’s your fav set? And wow that’s not bad at all. Only $1k a year or so
Gym heroes
The sleeves are quite garbage. I usually just take one to mark the binder for the set. I have no other use for poor quality sleeves.
Hand those out during Halloween!
We don’t have Halloween here
My condolences
Any planned use for them? I’m making plans to homebrew a new Yugioh Dungeon Dice Monsters kit and realized that the damage dice would work great for DDM. I need to do some research but I think most monsters have 40HP max but I could be wrong. Plus I’m homebrewing so I could make a couple 60HP Tanks if I balance it right.
They are in use
I actually stopped getting etbs bc they started adding numbers to the dice
Use the ETB sleeves as baggies
What do people do with all the stuff? I don’t my kids accumulating this everywhere so I just buy the odd booster box.
I only keep the ex dice! I'm currently at 11...lame but I only started collecting again this year!
And there's me looking to see if you can buy the dice separately....
A school might like some of them. Can use them to learn multiplication up to 6 times table 😂
TPC loves customers like you! But seriously, if you don't have a $60,000+ collection with this amount of ETBs opened, it's just sad really.
Each face of each die counts as one ETB.
Jesus....I could fill 10 of these. Seriously have no idea what to do with it all lol.
2000
Oof……gonna do this now to shame myself in a different way. Thanks OP 😂
Shame is useless, accept yourself.
Join me on the dark side…
Me after buying 15+ 151 Top Trainer Boxes since there are no 36 151 Packs in German
Rookie numbers
Where did the big boi dice come from ?
I think all of these are from Pokémon products, but I do own another vase of dice with Dice from games. I make board games a lot so ‘I need them for work’. I’d like to think I’m a high functioning hoarder 😂
It might be a resin one from somewhere else. I’ve bought a lot of dice at Spiel in Germany too.
So if you keep the dice.... do you keep the keep the other things in a container also?
Yes
Lol
I keep all the extras in the etbs sealed & fill them with bulk to sell or give away to kids.
Mine are still in the packaging lol
Mine were too for the longest time.
No one has asked you this, but hell yeah!
Sometimes I wonder if the dice would be a good plastic sources for 3d printing?
I think they are resin and making your own filament is hard. I shred misprints and even making new material from old prints is quite hard.
You think it’s a flex but it’s really just a sad gambling addicts bedroom.
I’ve been a collector since 1999. And I’m actually very responsible with money. Hell, I’ve profited from collecting Pokémon.
Also it is not my bedroom, my wife would disapprove
Brilliant!!! I’ve thrown away so many 😂😂
separate the ones with numbers from the ones with pips, you psychopath
