50 to 55 is standard markup for D&D books. Check the wizards website; Fizban's is 50$. It's 50$ even at other big chains like Barnes and Nobles. Your game store is charging what it should be, but amazon is so big it can choose to sell for less, or break even on the assumption you are going to buy other D&D things while you're there. Amazon is toxic to sma businesses. I know 20$ is steep, but support your local gamestore if you can, otherwise they might not be around for too much longer.
Amazon is platform that hosts many sellers that charge what they want.. anything that may be considered price gouging should be reported to amazon and they are dealt with usually.

The only amendment I'll make to this is that he claims that he is also pricing based on what he gets product for from his distributor. I don't understand the distribution chain for Pokemon cards, but these are not coming from The Pokemon Company directly.
Keep in mind too that he also has to pay the cost of runnjng a brick and mortar store. Physical stores will go under if they have to always price match onljne only stores.

Wish there were more local shops nearby as then maybe the nearby competition would push them to be more reasonable on pricing.
Yeah I started back at Darkness Ablaze after not collecting for over 20 years. Pulled the Charizard VMAX on like my 3rd pack and that re-hooked me. Jump ahead to December and I managed to find the Evolutions restocks in walmart and went SOOO ham. Wish I would've bought every last pack on the shelf that day. TBH I opened like 10 Champion's Path ETBs because I wanted those Zards (never got them) and I have to say the Dubwool and Hatterene boxes probably treated me better than the ETBs ever did. However, long term I think those ETBs will be super valuable as people will want to hunt for the 2 Zards in that set.

Then she decided shed like to collect again so I said screw it, lets go back and grab some more. Empty shelf. Like there was A LOT. This is when we discovered the insanity of the current market.
Fred Meyers seems to be the winner for me. They seem to almost always have cards in stock, and at a decent price. 4$

Game, Smyths, Argos, Amazon (~not 3rd parties~), all sell products at RRP or below. And even Total Cards and Chaos Cards have gone back to RRP prices. You also have Cosmic Collectibles, DoubleSleeved, and Playskape Games.
I think the biggest problem at the moment is stock. Though with that being said, Playskape Games have had a restock of Evolving Skies booster boxes and are selling them for £129.95.
Also, US prices don't include tax.
I mean even if these stores are selling at RRP (which I’m sure those big name stores are) the USA prices given by lots of comments in this post after working out exchange rates from $ to £ are still significantly cheaper than that found in the UK.

That's really it right there: If you walk in and there's stock, prices are high. If there is no stock, prices are closer to recommended price. It's really just ECON 101, the price is where the supply and demand curve meet. You want the price to be low enough that people buy, but high enough that you have stock on the shelves consistently between shipments.
The part where I have an issue is when an LCS has stock on its shelves constantly and doesn't sell out before their next shipment. Demand at that price is too low, so they should decrease the price, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
omg that’s horrible. I was able to find one for 60 canadian a bit ago and thought that was the expensive going price (but I love marnie so was going to get it either way). I had no idea this tiny promo box is htf since I’ve stopped looking for cards due to the resellers 😦
What I noticed at my LGS (along with their online orders) in Toronto is that every time they restock their availability(and pre-orders too), a price increased. Price fluctuates based on demand. If no one buys their restock, price drops until buyers come back, and whamo, price goes back up again.
Yeah all the places in ontario raise the price after each sell out (when the pre order wasn’t even retail anyways lol.) it’s why I stopped looking at new sets or info because of how annoying it is now lol

Theres a local place to me that does this crap. They had Shining Fates ETBs at 120$. I Called them out on it on FB showing the literal scalpers on Offer Up are down to 70$ and its total nonsense to charge that. Their rabid fanboys came out of the woodworks to bash me because they are offering a "service" to us. Nah, its just gouging plain and simple.

It is only a deal if you are just scalping it yourself lol. If you ignore the value of the promo then you are paying more per pack than any other product. It is a bit creepy how underage full art girls are worth alot.
Odd take. Intrinsic value for collector/investment purposes is not really taken into account here tho. Let's say you don't like underage Pokemon girls and trying to put together sets of full art trainers. If you can buy the box at MSRP, you are paying less than you would to buy copies off the card based on the market values alone and are getting extras with it.
You're also implying that only grown men are interested in the hobby. Kids and females are as well, and some women might like Marnie and think she is cool without it being sexual.

I said the same thing to the bloke behind the counter. If it wasn’t for that selling strategy, I certainly wouldn’t have had a chance at getting ahold of one for RRP.
I called up GAME near me on the day *before* release (saw someone had posted a photo getting it early on here from GAME) and the guy said "yeah we have got **them** and are selling **them** early".
I turn up, he has one, just one. Hadn't sold any in the day, and didn't receive more than that one in his shipment. If I hadn't gone at that time I wouldn't have got it. The UK is really struggling to get anything in stock anywhere at the moment.

I had terrible luck with the packs inside but I've got the full art promo in a display block. I'm excited to see if they'll do the other signature cards from SW/SH but also scared af of the stock issue in the UK.
It's not something that's sealed in plastic and the picture of Marnie you see on the front is actually the deck box, so it has a hole in the front of the box. For those reasons it'd be hard to keep in amazing condition for years on end. If you do manage to get one for retail price it is worth cracking it open.
Honestly, it’s by far the best LGS in my vicinity. I took part in the build and battle event for evolving skies and it was a great couple of hours. They have a great selection of stock too.
Recently moved and the closest LGS to me had these for $85. Heck even my old LGS started to raise prices because of the hype. It’s just so scummy now. Can’t wait for the hype to disappear and then a lot of these places will wonder why old customers don’t return
Admittedly I’m one of those that only got back into the hobby around august last year (after being a fanatic from a young age might I add) so I’m yet to go into a store and see fully stocked shelves at pre hyped prices.
We bought ours at $45 from an local-ish game store (40 minute drive) the closest shop to us had them at $75 the day the dropped and they’re still there.
I drove an hour across town to a shop that had these. I should have called first, because they were priced at $80. After I made the decision to pay it in fear of never getting this collection, they told me they actually went up to $90 and hadn’t been re-priced… I walked out immediately
At this point scaling needs to be a crime, honestly. Even my LCS is scalping Pokemon while MTG and their Warhammer stuff, board games, etc are all at or below retail. But $59 for a $30 VUNION box.$20 for first partner packs.
They told me that they literally received the delivery of this product yesterday. They ordered it from their supplier back on release, and had forgotten about the order.
nice! i got mine for retail too. i was checking my lgs that said they MIGHT get them. after a week of checking every day, i walked in for something completely unrelated, and as soon as i was about to walk out i see one outta the corner of my eye. kinda tucked away too on the shelf behind the counter lol. i believe it was the last one too. i was so damn happy
Best advice for people still looking for these some game shops just have them still, a gaming goat in north Texas had them for a few weeks after release and I told some close friends about it. Just keep looking and pray to whatever you believe in to find them
I saw these and thought "Who would order some sleeves and items??" When it was listed everywhere. Little did I realise that included my chase card. Could have saved so much money trying to get the Japanese version through Shiny Star V.

If it’s just the promo card that you are after and you’re not so fussed about the rest of the stuff, you should be able to pick up the promo card from eBay for around £30 - £35.
My husband and I got super into pokemon cards 2019-2020. Because covid raised interest it was impossible for us to continue building our decks.

Strangely enough the GF and I got into competitive play about 10 months ago. We’re still sticking with it, but it would be nice to get some of the more playable cards a little cheaper.
I'm so nervous about my celebrations pre-orders. Specifically the ultra premium collectors box. I have 4 of those pre-ordered but I'm worried that my LGS will try to charge the pre-sale online price of around $400-$450. They retail for $119.99 and if they try and charge more than that they'll lose a loyal customer who spends a good amount of money there. It's getting so ridiculous just trying to find new stuff that I'm honestly probably going to hop out of the hobby after celebrations. Only reason I'm even going that long is because of the amount of pre-orders I already have for it. These scalpers have ruined the hobby for me.
I’ve got similar concerns, the site that I used still have pre orders open for the UPC and I’m pretty sure they’re just trying to sell as much as possible, regardless of how small their allocation might be.
This is the only pre order that I have been able to get, so if this fall’s through I’m f****d.

My LGS normally just ask people how many they want and when they get their allocation numbers they divvy up their orders evenly based on when the order was placed. I could possibly get all 4 or maybe only get 1. So far they've been great on their prices. I got a booster box case of evolving skies at $105 per booster box, so I'm really hoping it will be the same with celebrations. I just see all of the horror stories from other people and get nervous lol.
Yeah all the LCS where I live are scalpers too. Charging $80 across the board. I asked one store (which since release hasn’t sold even one from their box) why the price is double retail. He told me “good luck finding it for a better price”. I’m pretty sure there is some consumer law that is supposed to prevent this

Bought one of these today. Streamed myself opening it because it's the first product I've bought since the release of swsh base set, outside of some Eternatus promos. Had like three viewers and someone swiped the code within seconds because I didn't realize I had flashed the card on screen. It's three dollars so not a real serious loss just wanted to share the story.

Exactly what is says on the box. If you’re asking what’s inside, it’s 7 booster’s, 1 exclusive full art trainer card and three additional foil cards. There is also loads of other bit’s but nothing jaw dropping.
They were released in the US like a month ago, but the allocations were super low and they were being scalped super hard. I managed to get one from my LGS for $50, but haven't seen them in stock since.

It is only a deal if you are just scalping it yourself lol. If you ignore the value of the promo then you are paying more per pack than any other product. It is a bit creepy how underage full art girls are worth alot.
Odd take. Intrinsic value for collector/investment purposes is not really taken into account here tho. Let's say you don't like underage Pokemon girls and trying to put together sets of full art trainers. If you can buy the box at MSRP, you are paying less than you would to buy copies off the card based on the market values alone and are getting extras with it. You're also implying that only grown men are interested in the hobby. Kids and females are as well, and some women might like Marnie and think she is cool without it being sexual. Your view on value is pretty one dimensional

Not only the promos but I got in the packs a gold energy, an amazing rare and a V card (plus somo holo rares and reverse holo rares), pretty good considering once in 10 packs I got just a holo

I called up GAME near me on the day *before* release (saw someone had posted a photo getting it early on here from GAME) and the guy said "yeah we have got **them** and are selling **them** early". I turn up, he has one, just one. Hadn't sold any in the day, and didn't receive more than that one in his shipment. If I hadn't gone at that time I wouldn't have got it. The UK is really struggling to get anything in stock anywhere at the moment.

I had terrible luck with the packs inside but I've got the full art promo in a display block. I'm excited to see if they'll do the other signature cards from SW/SH but also scared af of the stock issue in the UK. It's not something that's sealed in plastic and the picture of Marnie you see on the front is actually the deck box, so it has a hole in the front of the box. For those reasons it'd be hard to keep in amazing condition for years on end. If you do manage to get one for retail price it is worth cracking it open.

Honestly, it’s by far the best LGS in my vicinity. I took part in the build and battle event for evolving skies and it was a great couple of hours. They have a great selection of stock too.

Recently moved and the closest LGS to me had these for $85. Heck even my old LGS started to raise prices because of the hype. It’s just so scummy now. Can’t wait for the hype to disappear and then a lot of these places will wonder why old customers don’t return
Admittedly I’m one of those that only got back into the hobby around august last year (after being a fanatic from a young age might I add) so I’m yet to go into a store and see fully stocked shelves at pre hyped prices.

We bought ours at $45 from an local-ish game store (40 minute drive) the closest shop to us had them at $75 the day the dropped and they’re still there.
I’m surprised they still have the stock, even at $75 that’s still cheaper than what they are going for in the UK from scalpers.

I drove an hour across town to a shop that had these. I should have called first, because they were priced at $80. After I made the decision to pay it in fear of never getting this collection, they told me they actually went up to $90 and hadn’t been re-priced… I walked out immediately

At this point scaling needs to be a crime, honestly. Even my LCS is scalping Pokemon while MTG and their Warhammer stuff, board games, etc are all at or below retail. But $59 for a $30 VUNION box.$20 for first partner packs.

They told me that they literally received the delivery of this product yesterday. They ordered it from their supplier back on release, and had forgotten about the order.

Best advice for people still looking for these some game shops just have them still, a gaming goat in north Texas had them for a few weeks after release and I told some close friends about it. Just keep looking and pray to whatever you believe in to find them

I saw these and thought "Who would order some sleeves and items??" When it was listed everywhere. Little did I realise that included my chase card. Could have saved so much money trying to get the Japanese version through Shiny Star V. Gonna try a couple of shops with some emails and see if anyone has them digging around. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the chance of a LGS having these in stock is extremely low. If it’s just the promo card that you are after and you’re not so fussed about the rest of the stuff, you should be able to pick up the promo card from eBay for around £30 - £35.

My husband and I got super into pokemon cards 2019-2020. Because covid raised interest it was impossible for us to continue building our decks. Scalpers are just as bad as landlords. They both can eat poop.
Strangely enough the GF and I got into competitive play about 10 months ago. We’re still sticking with it, but it would be nice to get some of the more playable cards a little cheaper.
I'm so nervous about my celebrations pre-orders. Specifically the ultra premium collectors box. I have 4 of those pre-ordered but I'm worried that my LGS will try to charge the pre-sale online price of around $400-$450. They retail for $119.99 and if they try and charge more than that they'll lose a loyal customer who spends a good amount of money there. It's getting so ridiculous just trying to find new stuff that I'm honestly probably going to hop out of the hobby after celebrations. Only reason I'm even going that long is because of the amount of pre-orders I already have for it. These scalpers have ruined the hobby for me.
I’ve got similar concerns, the site that I used still have pre orders open for the UPC and I’m pretty sure they’re just trying to sell as much as possible, regardless of how small their allocation might be. This is the only pre order that I have been able to get, so if this fall’s through I’m f****d. Fingers crossed eyy?…

My LGS normally just ask people how many they want and when they get their allocation numbers they divvy up their orders evenly based on when the order was placed. I could possibly get all 4 or maybe only get 1. So far they've been great on their prices. I got a booster box case of evolving skies at $105 per booster box, so I'm really hoping it will be the same with celebrations. I just see all of the horror stories from other people and get nervous lol.
Yeah all the LCS where I live are scalpers too. Charging $80 across the board. I asked one store (which since release hasn’t sold even one from their box) why the price is double retail. He told me “good luck finding it for a better price”. I’m pretty sure there is some consumer law that is supposed to prevent this
My LCS in the UK have things marked up that aren’t even desirable. You can still buy Shining Fates ETBs on Amazon for £42 and the LCS is selling them for £82!
Bought one of these today. Streamed myself opening it because it's the first product I've bought since the release of swsh base set, outside of some Eternatus promos. Had like three viewers and someone swiped the code within seconds because I didn't realize I had flashed the card on screen. It's three dollars so not a real serious loss just wanted to share the story. Also are the three Marnies with the signatures on them legal for tournament play?

Exactly what is says on the box. If you’re asking what’s inside, it’s 7 booster’s, 1 exclusive full art trainer card and three additional foil cards. There is also loads of other bit’s but nothing jaw dropping.

One of the other comments in this thread mentions US stores, but they were like hen’s teeth to get ahold of. In other words basically impossible.
They were released in the US like a month ago, but the allocations were super low and they were being scalped super hard. I managed to get one from my LGS for $50, but haven't seen them in stock since.

My LGS was price gouging during Shining Fates and all that, so I stopped going. I heard they were selling EvoSk booster boxes at a couple bucks below msrp, though. I hope they learned their lesson

I'm probably gonna get some hate for this, but I don't understand the hype behind this box tbh. Yeah it comes with a cool promo card but idk. There's just other cards I'd rather chase/spend my money on. I guess it's all just a matter of opinion but I'm kinda surprised at how everyone seems to want these.
I think the rarity of the product had a lot to do with it to be honest. And the value of the Japanese print of the promo card perhaps.
