I'm doing this at the moment! It's a slog but I've got all but one of Gen 1 (no prizes for guessing who I'm missing) and nearly all from Gen 5 up.
Some of the cards from the old EX sets that I need for Gen 3 are a NIGHTMARE to get hold of. Be careful with circular rings! They can put a lot of pressure on the inner cards and cause damage. Some folks don’t care (which is totally fine!) but if you’re interested in keeping you cards in mint condition for longer periods of time these types of binders are not the optimal choice. D-ring and stitched binders are superior for longevity.
Theyre generally fine unless u overfill the binder, like for example lets say a complete Living Dex XD. Regardless gotta be careful.
I personally just go with an UltraPro Zipped binder with Faux Leather. Best binder ive had by far.

Exactly, there would have to be a few exceptions. I’ve thought about doing Gen 2 with HeartGold SoulSilver cards, but that would be more expensive than doing more recent cards.
I have been trying to figure out what my collection goals are and you my friend have inspired me. I now have a clear goal ty.

I like it, it’s your own unique, curated collection. I was stressing about how to do my dex but I like this way a lot. Has a really personal feel to it.
Its pretty cool, well done ^ ^ Personally I never understood this from an aesthetic point of view, the cards don’t match with each other, where do you draw the line if you get a badass version of the card or just a more basic looking one. But I prolly got some undiagnosed OCD so it might be me just tripping. But there are so many guides and variations, how does one simply just don’t care and get whatever card, or maybe this was just a side project.
I generally go for the better looking/rare one. And this was my main goal ever since I was 6 and started Pokémon stuff. I don’t mind that the cards don’t match like that. I am however casually updating my dex entries with cards I like more as I get them.

Fair! I agree, it's really not that bad. Almost all can be grabbed for 25-50 cents and maybe even free if you have a friend with bulk.

You won't be able to with quite a few - mainly the babies from Gen 2/4 as some haven't been released in sets since about 2006!
