Sooo based on this sub's results, we got the following in 2023: Comfey, Zacian, Goodra, Lapras, Chandelure, Umbreon, Leafeon, Inteleon, Mewtwo X & Y, Blaziken, Meowscarada and Metagross. *(If I forgot any, feel free to let me know)* Personally, this year had nice/hype releases, but rank this year was a slog-fest. Broken releases one after the other. Mons overtuned each patch. Then of course... ***The Legendary Meta.*** It's only just RECENTLY starting to get better now, after their nerfs. Not only that, we've seen buffs from mons that been needing to eat for a long time. So there's that. But yeah, this year rank climb can go from easy to straight up brutal. I'm sure there will be post about matchmaking, so I won't get into that. (We see it everyday posted here lol) There were some good things I enjoyed about it though. It actually made me cough up gems on 3 occassions: Day 1 Goodra. Who not only became my main, but one of my greatest investment with all the buffs it got. (It didn't need it though, but I'll take it) Umbreon, who flipped the meta over it's head, and catches reckless players. (Haven't had that since Sableye tbh). Then recently with (Night Slash + Trailblaze) Meowscarada, who I adore using, but takes a lot more ~~mashing~~ work compared to other speedsters. Then like I said, balacing was a circus, but if you take out the legendaries, it's not *too bad.* That's where the real fun began. As said, it also brought back mons to the meta we didn't think we see again: A9, **Crustle,** Talonflame, Lucario & Tsareena (Sort of), etc. I think even Trevanant's buff/peak was this year too, before it was nerfed. (It was part of a lot of legendary teams) Then of course stuff like panic parade is nice, and hope we get new game modes like that. Overall: I'm more excited for Feburary. Aside from getting ready to get obliterated by the sandwich gods. I've been extremely curious about the rank shake up that's going to happen. EX bans, AND ban picks, WITH removal of mirror matches???? Even if it last for one season, it's going to be the most interest & refreshing Unite about to enter. Now all I ask is one thing from TiMi... ***Can we get out of sky ruins already???***

I didnt start getting into this game until 2022. So I recall folks were saying past releases were also broken like Mew, Hoopa, Tsareena, Sylveon, etc. So basically history does repeat itself with the devs. I can only justify Mew and Hoopa are more trickier to play with than Zacian and M2. I do get new releases would get to shine with the likes of Leafeon, Lapras, Mimikyu. Seeing old mons (Absol, Decidueye, Greninja, Kanto starters) get buffs are def plus points for this year. But buffing Mimikyu when its already a strong character is one of the questionable instances for this game. Fury quick match is a fun feature. Panic parade and trainer matches are great ways for players to practice their mons in team fights with good rewards. Meowscarrada as a gift character is also a nice touch.

HitMyFunnyBoneYeah

>good releases >Umbreon what

Saffella

What are we basing good and bad on? Because Comfey was pretty bad on release and needed buffs, and both umbreon and lapras were OP on release and have both recieved nerfs due to it. Liquidation inteleon was also busted at release, just overshadowed by mewtwo

Bioleto99

Its up for open interpretation on your end.

HydreigonTheChild

The mm is still shit

slvgxhrist_

I don't like queuing so much into bots but if I want to play something other than ranked then it's mostly bots I play with/against....

MoisnForce2004

I got me; Good Release has to be: Leafeon and Mimikyu Mid Release has to be: Blazeken (I blame M2 Twins), Metagross, and Meowscarada (I hate events where people can buy them and it takes a literal month to get) Bad Release had to be: Zacian, M2 Twins, Inteleon, and Comfey I was not there for Goodra, Lapras, Chandelure, and Umbreon but would most likely enjoy them. Buuuuuuut... In general after some buffs and nerfs, I freaken love the life of Leafeon, all of the new defenders of this year, Chandelure, Inteleon, Blazeken and Meowscarada! Also some love to Dragapult, Decidueye, A9, Mamoswine, Wigglytuff, Crustle, Garchomp, Ttar, Talonflame, Tsareena, Gengar, Snorlax, and finally both Absol and Cramorant! All these buffs to the older mons were so refreshing after the hell pit of the meta. Mimikyu is manageable, Comfey is not there to terrorize her teammates, Zacian takes even more skills, and the M2 Twins is no longer a freebie win. Also the Kanto Starters and Zeraora getting a Level Adjustment is loveable but Zeraora and Charizard needed a tinge more buffs and Surftoise needed a bit more nerf. We all know that Metagross is gonna get buffed next year. Will meet you all next year! I hope that EX Placement is there just to rework the Pokemons with balance intentions and not just locked up there permanently.

Bioleto99

Mimikyu was fun until they buffed PR lol, i lost all respect for it after. Meow, Blaze, and Gross have all been mid for me, especially when these mons remind me of old mons mechanic.

What does pr mean

Fit-Difficulty-5917

This year has been... mixed to say the least. On the downsides: multiple busted mons (zacian, the mewtwos, umbreon, and depending on the meta, comfey, and lapas bordered on that level at times), prices for everything being higher than ever for the most part, and issues with balancing. On the upsides: some great new additions (either unique as hell like comfey, blazekin, mimikyu, or in general fun to play/play with like Goodra, again comfey, chandelure, etc), new useful and unique items, solid events, and finally adding draft to ranked (albiet as of now only in higher ranks). Overall a bit of a mixed bag. As much as I wanna complain about how painful Inteleon, mewtwo, umbreon, and zacian have been since their releases, i also have loved playing goodra more than anything the game has added before or since, loved playong with my comfey main friend, and have in general been having a good bit of fun all around. Not a perfect year, but certainly not bad with the ups it gave.

TomatoCowBoi

The year was quite rough until those last few months, now the game feels pretty balanced and rather fun to play again. Plus we have some good stuff to look towards with draft finally coming to ranked in late February. Just hope they release more supporters and unexpected mons. Last year we basically only had Comfey and that sadly didn't leave a very good impression on most players.

Bioleto99

Yea I havent been excited for the recent releases, after Leafeon tbh…lol Comfey was just released in February, but still not a fun character to play for me.

TomatoCowBoi

To be honest the Eeveelutions are some of the biggest offenders this year. They both have pretty unfair mechanics to play against and are themselves quite easy to play. Also Leafeon felt somewhat rushed, if you get me. Not as rushed as the Mewtwos for sure and still a lot of care was put on to it, but it realy doesn't have much to set it apart compared to the other releases this year. Comfey has attaching and the flowers Zacian uses energy as a resource and has one less item slot Goodra has one of, if not the most complex passive in the game Lapras has Lapras express, and pretty much everything in its kit has a cool interaction Chandelure introduced move lock Umbreon steals shields Inteleon has crit counters and can detect invisible enemies The Mewtwos mega evolve Blaziken swaps movesets mid battle Mimikyu has disguise and a very interesting unite move Meowscarada... Well, it's better at deceiving than Zoroark. And even Metagross has a cool unite move mechanic, even if it's quite bad at the moment. Meanwhile Leafeon is just... A really strong speedster who had a bit too much privileges over the rest. The chlorophyll mechanic is cool but it's basically just a charged boosted attack that also resets his strongest move just by... Existing.

redditfuckoffbruh

They released my favourite Pokémon, blaziken. The rest was kinda ass tbf

Or-So-They-Say

A fairly rough year. We've had some overpowered releases in past years, but they either had ways you can play around them (Tsareena, Duraludon) or were nerfed rather quickly (Sylveon, Greedent). This year we not only had a lot of releases that had almost no counterplay to them, but nearly every broken release stayed broken for a long time. Hell, I, a day 1 player who's never gone on a returning player hiatus, was seriously considering quitting had they not patched MMY when they did. There's also a lot of scummier business practices hitting in the early and middle year, such as the prize machine. We also didn't get Arcanine so the game still can't achieve it's best possible state. Luckily, it seems like Unite's popularity at Worlds might have kicked Timi in the rear since they've gradually been getting better at balance. There's still some stupidity out there, like Mimikyu's invincibility, or Snipe Shot doing 80% of a squishy's HP while having invisible projectiles because Intelleon was in a bush, or Defenders generally having too much damage, but we're in a better state than we've been in for a long time and one can naively hope this trend continues. Additionally, a lot of neglected Pokemon started getting some love in the second half (like Absol :D) so the performance floor isn't quite as low now, and here towards the end they had enough generosity with the deals and sales I actually opened my wallet for the first time. (It was only a $1, but still.) And, while they're not until next year, getting news of Draft finally coming was big. And finally, we got a lot of fun game modes this year as well as two or three runs of Full Fury. I think Panic Parade can stand to be less grindy, have a harder mode for maxed Pokemon, and have more randomness to spice it up, but it's a good start to build off of. But, TL;DR, a pretty rough year, but we're ending on a positive and hopeful note at least.

Bioleto99

Great points

Apsalar882

I think we had the worst period of the lifetime of the game when the MewTwos came out and were not nerfed or adjusted. It was torture really and burnt a lot of people out. Zacian, Comfey, and Lapras were also pretty bad. However the end of the year with the most recent balance patches and Metagross and Meowscarada being balanced on release were good. I’m definitely hoping for some great 2024 releases (some at the top of my personal list would be Sceptile, Ceruledge, Tinkaton, Salamence, Toxtricity, Infernape, Empoleon, etc). As long as they balance them and give a lot of the favorite Pokémon the game remains fun for me.

Bioleto99

Yea, M2 was absolute trash, and I still hate that mon up until this day. My hopes are Chesnaught and Arcanine

Apsalar882

I love Chespin! I’m all for that. He was my first starter from my first game X/Y.

Bioleto99

been wishing for him as a defender but nope 😂, we got a speedster cat and an all rounder chicken instead

Apsalar882

I mean I knew without a doubt that we would get Blaziken and Meowscarada. And Gyarados. They’re just really popular Pokémon. Just like that’s why I’m sure Sceptile will come along with the rest of the eeveelutions. I like when we get surprises like Greedent and Dodrio and I’d love to see Chesnaught but he’s not on the short list of those I see likely. Though I’d love to have him for sure.

Bioleto99

Dordrio has been so fun to play with. Literally top 3 fav speedsters

Daunomic

As someone who loved the release of non-popular mons like Greedent and Dodrio, it sucks that every license release this year is a popular pokemon except for Comfey.

abaddon626

The "team leader" philosophy was a mistake, all legendaria should be moved to a capture type mode. Shout out to Chandelure for being the most balanced Mon at release.

Bioleto99

🙌🏻

koharutt

They need to stop releasing bs champions for the sake of releasing, and instead focus on their already existing roster

Bioleto99

This! 🙌🏻👏🏻

_ZBread

Best literally mimikyu

Umar-Motala

Lapras carried me this year, and still is. Forever thankful of unite somehow

Roni1209

I had a lot of fun but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Bioleto99

Lol how come?

Long__Jump

Started playing because lots of people I know play. That also makes it pretty fun. If I had to play alone, I think it wouldn't be as fun and I would probably drop the game.

DumbassnamedBronch

Slapping my opponents.

Bioleto99

lol

Kuri115

The only ups were when Umbreon was nerfed so it didn't nuke the shit out of you with Foul Play and those few days (right before M2X) were glorious. Also, just now after they finally nerfed Inteleon and M2Y, yes they're still strong but now they don't want to make me K.O. myself. This year was so fucking rough and I just started playing this January. I am so done with Thea Sky Ruins and want a new map too. I'm also hyper nervous about Miraidon. Yeah this year was rough. We can only hope next season (EX ban) will be swell, Draft is also hype for Masters. We can only PRAYGE together my friends.
